Well from one extreme to the other! I had a prior review which was for their failure to seat us so had never returned, but some friends were meeting there so I gave them another try. We had a very courteous and attentive waitress and we got to try the food this time. I didn't hear anyone complain. All of us who had the chicken fried steak enjoyed them. The "petite" portion is really enough. The "regular" is quite large, a very generous portion. The Caesar salad was fine. Sweet potato fries very good. They also have a small meat market adjacent to the restaurant where we bought some steaks. Lots of Wagyu there. Haven't cooked those yet so I can't comment on them, but the marbling looked great. First time at Kearney's and of course I did a to go order. When I got back to work, i dug in and OMG! The chicken fried chicken is better than most chicken fried chickens I've had! I ordered the chicken fried chicken with Mac and cheese. My hubby order 8oz top sirloin medium raw with mashed potatoes and gravy. The entrees come with soup or salad as well. The Mac and cheese was bland with a lot of cheese in it. My chicken fried chicken was ok but the gravy didn't taste right to me. I will say once we ordered the food came out fast. My hubby said the burnt edges of the sirloin was the best part. The fried zucchini was good and the marinara was the best part of our meal. Also, the mimosa was good. Went in on a Friday night. Told was gonna be a 40 minute wait. I was fine with it. Waited at most 10 minutes was at bar waiting to order a drink when a manager walked up and took us to our seat. Our first time here, and it won't be our last. The food was hot, fresh and different. The atmosphere is done in Western style,kinda like the store that was there for many years. Inside is surrounded by cowboy and farmhouse decor. We decided on a burger, and CFC. They have CFS on menu, but had to ask about CFC.The burger was cooked to order, along with the crispy FF. I got a salad which was really good and fresh. My CFC was served with mashed potatoes and gravy, and sourdough toast. Everything was delicious! We were greeted by the Manager-Seth and he took us on a lil tour outside. There's a full service bar inside, and they have a beer garden outside. The outside area is decorated with lights and tables to relax. They have a place for a band to play on weekend nights. And they have heated/air conditioning bathrooms outside!! We were passing through Mesquite around lunchtime (while antique shopping) and saw a lot of cars at the restaurant. Always a good sign and Im glad we stopped. I had the buffalo chicken fried chicken sandwich and my wife had the brisket sandwich. Warning: the portions were huge! Food was awesome, staff was friendly, prices reasonable. We ate here for the first time tonight. I was very surprised about the pricing. For a serving of pot roast with no sides and a few potatoes mixed in it was $16. For 4 Jalapeño Cheese Puffs it was $9. The food was pretty good, but I expected more. There were no complimentary items offered like rolls, cornbread or chips and salsa. I was confused about why the decor in the front was white tablecloths, vases of roses and wine glasses and the decor in the back had no tablecloths and we had plain clear tall glasses. The servers and wait staff were polite and friendly. I hope that maybe they can revaluate and revamp some things. This was my first time at Kearney's. The place was super open and all the rooms were so different. A couple rooms felt more fancy for the dinning area. One was super plain and kind of a quiet room for people who don't like much noise, then there was the bar area and the outside patio area that was super spacious. There was plenty of room to stand around with a drink in your hand or snag a table to just hang out. The bartenders were very attentive. I ordered the pizza and added my desired toppings: chicken, bacon, ranch & jalapeño. It was pretty good. The crust was a little burnt but It didn't ruin the taste of the over all pizza at all. I liked the thin crispy crust. The Caesar salad was a little dry and could've been tossed in the dressing more. I also ordered more food just to test the water and got the shrimp scampi, a side of onion rings and a side of Mac and cheese. I wasn't too big on the pasta, it was pretty bland but the sides were great. The onion rings turned out to be little crispy shoestring fried onions and the Mac and cheese was super creamy/cheesy. All in all I think this place is very capable for success. Maybe everything wasn't perfect but it's new. I will definitely be back to try out their nice steak special they apparently were having tonight. read more

Get an open sign! You had a neon one for a second. What happened? Can't tell if you're open or closed! Chairs were stacked up in one area. My Mom and I were finally greeted and seated. Customers would walk in and ask us are they open? Over and over during our lunch. Didn't look like it with a room full of stacked up furniture! Get a clue! Also take down the "farmhouse" sign! The first time we tried to eat here for dinner we were seated immediately by one of the 6 hostesses looming at the front. We sat at the table for 20 minutes and received zero acknowledgement from the staff, so we decided to leave. Two weeks later we decided to give it another go and just assumed it was that way because of launch week. We arrived and were told it would be a 4 hour wait so we left. Apparently a retirement party rented out the entirety of the back, and the inside was completely booked by homecoming kids. Completely understandable. Tonight we went back for the third time and finally ate! Unfortunately it wasn't worth the wait. The Cheddar Puff appetizer was cold in the center, the soups were luke-warm at best, my steak was blue-rare when I ordered it Medium, the french fries tasted stale and re-heated, I ordered loaded mashed potatoes and it had 3 pieces of bacon.. 4 chives, and a dime size of sour cream.. no cheese.. and to top it off they were ice cold. If the food wasn't bad enough there were ants on our table and the 4 hostesses were kicking around crickets in the middle of the floor. The only nice thing about the experience was the waitress. This place literally opened their doors last night. The food is great! They have a few kinks to work out but the management was great and has a long line of successes under their belt. We ordered the queso to start and it was alright, but it tased like what Most people would make in a crokpot for Super Bowl Sunday. It wasn't bad, you just expect more from a restaurant. We also ordered the chicken fried steak and burger. Both were good size portions, but extreamly bland overall. We never salt or pepper our food, but this was an exception. All 4 baked potatoes were so cold that nothing was melted. My brother ordered sweet tea but got Dr Pepper. My mother didn't want sour cream but got sour cream on her potato. Just ok...we visited this place back when they first opened and loved IT! The manager was very warm and food was excellent. Came back for a second visit the other day and it's just ok. I so wanted this place to be great. It's such a great concept and the menu is promising. But...the food is mediocre. The green beans tasted canned at best, the mixed drink was hardly worth $11 I didn't even taste any whiskey just the sour couldn't even finish it...way to sour! Glad we came back to Kearney's! Sat outside on a beautiful afternoon. Wait staff was attentive immediately and throughout our visit. Ordered the salmon plate which was delicious! The waitress even accommodated my keto diet requests to the "T"! My husband had a gorgeous entree salad with ahi tuna and daughter had the brisket omelet. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, service and outside eating experience as even our "fur baby" was able to join us in the outdoor seating area. I absolutely recommend the brunch as several options were available to select from. We will be back often! Can't beat good food, at great prices, close to home with good service to beat! Co-worker ordered Caesar Salad w/dressing on the side; received dressing on the side with a plate of lettuce only. We had to ask for cheese and croutons. *croutons were good! Then our order came out: Chicken fried chicken was hot, but dry... mashed potatoes compacted/old tasting and gravy too thick! 2 orders of Crispy chicken wraps; chicken came out warm - pretty good, and French fries on both orders were cold and tasted old. Overpriced for subpar food. Looks like it has potential but they charge Premium prices and still cut all the corners. The menus were old laminated paper that was peeling and gross. The silverware was paper thin cafeteria junk and was dirty, and presented with paper napkins. From where we sat you could see into a junk room where the employees seem to congregate when not doing their jobs. There are no booths. The soup and salad came out only seconds before the meal so we didn't eat it. The food was lukewarm and just ok. The chicken was chewy and I ate only a few bites of my $19 plate. I was up charged for the soup that it clearly says it comes with even though I didn't have time to eat it. We had to hunt the waitress down for refills and when we got them she touched the common refill pitcher used for everyone to the rims of our glasses where our mouths had been. All in all it's not horrible but I'd never go back and pay those prices for something less appetizing than chilis. read more

I generally never go to a new place for several weeks after they open because of the normal growing pains and kinks that need to be worked out. But we had friends that really wanted to go to Kearney's so off we went. I've been in and out of that building for over 20 years and I must say it is a beautifully remodeled space. Large dining area, large private dining room, big bar area and the outside area is massive. Maybe too big actually. All of it nicely appointed and well thought out. Parking will be a problem but I've been told that has been addressed so don't let that worry you. Yes, you will probably have a wait because this is a new restaurant that was badly needed in that part of town and EVERYONE wants to go. Our wait was about 40 minutes and about what I expect in Bishop Arts District on any given evening. The wait/hostess staff appears to all be new to food service with an average age of 20 but were friendly and helpful. However, our waiter wasn't completely familiar with everything on the menu yet and a tad slow. Like I said, they're all new to this and every restaurant in Dallas has trouble staffing. The wait staff could be helped by a busser providing water refills for the tables freeing them up. We almost had our second glass of wine before we received water. Bar staff was friendly and prompt. However our ladies cocktails were on the warm side (martini's are supposed to be cold) , the red wine room temp and I've had a colder Blood & Honey on tap. The full menu viewed online isn't available but the menu they provided was more than adequate. There were four of us and we all ordered different entree's and all were excellent even if my Pork T Bone was a tad on the dry side. Great flavor though. Speaking of entree's, they have adopted the big city method of running up the tab by offering no sides with most entree's. So if you plan to order a couple sides with your steak or Salmon expect to add $10-$12 to your order. Ouch! People on that side of town aren't used to that so we'll see how that works out. They could also benefit from adding something like some grilled veggie sides to the menu too. Pizza is on the menu. Pepperoni, Four Cheese & Margherita. No meat? Really? This is Texas. You HAVE to have a meat option and no, most people with the ability of taste don't consider pepperoni REAL meat. Also be aware that you can eat outside but there is a different menu. Basically burgers, sliders and maybe appetizers? Not sure what the deal on that is. The outside space is awesome and when all is up and running the live music outside should be a great place to hang out with lots of tables, separate bar and restrooms. The menu is a bit all over the place right now from BBQ ribs to fish n chips, steak ($$$), spaghetti, burgers, grilled salmon, pizza, etc. I'm guessing they're throwing a lot out there to see what sticks with this crowd. I expect a menu shake up in the coming months, but until then enjoy the variety! Everything I expected in going to KFY on it's fourth day of operation was realized. Long wait, slow service, parking, etc so there were no surprises there. However, they handled it better than I expected and in speaking to people I know that are involved in the operation everything I've mentioned has been addressed and solutions forthcoming. They have decades in the restaurant business and I fully expect we'll have one of the truly great eating establishments on the east side of town for a long time to come. Give 'em a few weeks and give them a try! I think you'll like it. $$$ read more

This is our first time here but they have only been open for a week... There was about a 45-1 hour wait time for inside seat so we decided to sit at the bar. Service is great but the bar staff could smile a little more The bar staff is very helpful even though they were pretty busy!!! There's plenty of cornhole boards to play outside. Plenty of outdoor seating, bar and bar seating is of course open seating but it's very roomy. They do have live bands but just don't know how often. read more

I really Want to give this place a good review...I do, but I can not! Yes, is local, it open, it is clean, they are friendly but what they did to breakfast was horrible AND so much money! I can not believe that it cost two of us $70.00 for Brunch. The food looked wonderful & my daughter Loved the Chicken fried steak & gravy but the rest of the meal for had a lot to be desired. The fried hash browns were creamy - not fried! The migas, egg taco & pancakes w/pulled pork were not worth mentioning. My chicken & biscuit were okay, but as mentioned before the Hash browns were creamy. To me it was Too expensive for what we got & what it tasted like. I really wanted to try more of their food, but for that price I can NOT afford to go there. It is Not priced for neighborhood family...but for date night out. For those that want to try it, please do not let this make a difference, go...just don't go for brunch. We took home the "Spicy Cajun chicken pasta for my husband. He said NOPE! We gave this place a second try. First we ate inside and had a full meal. Food was mediocre and service was slow, but because it was formally a staple for the Mesquite and Sunnyvale community and I took my kids there when it was a true feed yard, we decided to give it a second try. This time it was through the drive through . The order taker had to return to the car twice to ask us to repeat our order. We got two cheese burgers with fries. We got a small fries that Macdonalds would serve and the burger orders were completely wrong. JC burgers and fries are bigger , made to order, and better tasting.
