We gave this place a second try. First we ate inside and had a full meal. Food was mediocre and service was slow, but because it was formally a staple for the Mesquite and Sunnyvale community and I took my kids there when it was a true feed yard, we decided to give it a second try. This time it was through the drive through . The order taker had to return to the car twice to ask us to repeat our order. We got two cheese burgers with fries. We got a small fries that Macdonalds would serve and the burger orders were completely wrong. JC burgers and fries are bigger , made to order, and better tasting. We will stick with them for the price and experience. read more

We have given this place multiple second chances before writing a review and have been at least a half dozen times but three strikes are enough to make this a trend. Unfortunately, it could be a decent option due to the nice outdoor space but it's mismanaged and the seating staff is terrible. We come ONLY to eat in the outdoor area with friends because there are games and space for the kids to run around and play. Strike 1- They won't let us sit outside (there was at least 75% of the outdoor seating open) but we can't use it. Their nonsensical excuse is "we don't have waiters for those tables, but you can sit inside". That makes no sense. Have whoever was going to help us 10' away inside the wall just walk through the open walkway outside. Or have the other waiters walking around outside not doing anything only serving two tables help us. It's REALLY not that complicated. We don't come here to sit inside. Luckily this time we saw people we knew sitting outside and just avoided the buffoonery at the door and went and sat with them despite being told we can't sit outside. Strike 2- another day we ordered food for pickup at 4:00 pm to be picked up at 5:00 pm. We showed up at 5:00 and waited until 5:35 pm to get our TO GO order. 1 hour and 35 minutes for a to-go order -- Absolutely ridiculous. Clearly, they didn't even start the order until after we got there defeating the whole purpose of a pick-up, and making us late for where we were going. Strike 3- Again, we showed up to eat outside (like always) and meet friends on a nice weather weekend afternoon. Yet, we are told we can't sit outside (again), plenty of tables are empty out there, as usual, but we can't sit there. We only can be seated inside. WTF, why? We just walked out. We will go elsewhere and stop wasting our time on mediocre food and incompetence. Why build a nice outdoor space if people can't use the multiple open tables out there? Get your crap together. If customers want to come to your restaurant to eat outside AND you have plenty of open tables outside--let them EAT OUTSIDE. In these instances, it wasn't even busy so this isn't an excuse. Quit being lazy and FIGURE IT OUT, my 2-year-old understands the simple concept of open table/sit there. "IF" we ever actually get seated outside the service has been fine, the fried pickles and burgers are pretty good, most other stuff is.. meh. read more

Rant Warning I will begin by saying that I won't be coming back nor would I recommend this place to anyone! -It started off with a dirty cup, it was completely stained with red lip stick. At that moment we didn't think much about it so we continued to order. -We order our appetizers which took 45 minutes to arrive and when they did they were cold so we sent them back. -Our food took OVER AN HOUR to arrive and when it did, the order was wrong. Mind you that by this time there are only a few other tables with people. We sent it back and with the new order it was still wrong. At this point we are done! We are ready to just go! -BEST PART!!! As we are waiting for our check the who appears to be the head chef comes out and begins to complain (outloud) to a young man about how understaffed they are and then to top it all off starts complaining about how they need to hire additional people in the back because the current ones only speak Spanish. Look honey, you shouldn't have hired them to start off with if it you were going to have a problem with them!! Also, out on the floor was definitely not the place to complain! Wow! Kearney's Feed Yard is a fun place to catch up with friends and grab a good bite to eat and enjoy a snow cone for dessert! The Grind burger is a simple, but very tasty burger and my friend's patty melt looked delicious, too! The fried pickles are perfect and not dry, crispy and keep the pickle taste! I had such high hopes for Kearneys and maybe they will figure it out. The best thing about our dinner Saturday night was the service from Casey. She was amazing! Where it breaks down for us is the rest of the staff and the food. We had reservations for a large party and still waited 15-20 min to be seated, although our tables were empty when we walked in. May I also note at 7pm there was not a wait. Once seated there was not enough menus to go around. Odd issue. Next comes the menu. Its a relatively small menu. Don't know if that is good or bad. Our table had everything from pasta to steak. It was all ok. But for their prices, just ok is not enough. I opted for the ribeye ($29). The ribeye was a very cheap cut (like Denny's steak and eggs cheap) and should not have been more than $15. The kids menu has good options and the Mac n cheese was good (when it finally made it out). But note that it is just a bowl of Mac n cheese. No other sides. The kitchen was pretty slow and our table of 14 had few food stragglers while others had to eat in front of them so the food didn't get cold. Would we go back. Eh...probably not right now and I hate that because I grew up going to the feed store and wanted it to be so much more! read more

The regulars control the seating situation in the bar. They put reserved signs out and control who can and cannot sit at the bar when people walk in. Management lets it happen. This happens at the tabletops as well as the bar tops. The bar top is pretty much empty right now and when you walk in they determine if you can and cannot sit at the bar. read more

We tried it out tonight and we LOVED IT!! We ordered the New Orleans Shrimp as an appetizer - very tasty with a nice spicy finish. We split an entree trying out the Pork Roast and a side of Mac n cheese. The dessert was a very smooth Key Lime Pie. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed it a lot. We will be back for sure. I rarely write reviews.... but we've been here since 6:50pm... we just received our food at 9:09pm. If the food was worth it, I'd have waited longer however... The food was just ok, equivalent to a Chili's. Actually everyone at the table stated that Chilis may be better. We ordered a ribeye, which I was told was good. The tomato bisque soup that came with it was average, not amazing. Another had the sirloin, which was a winner. The pizza was ok, not great. Mac and cheese was good. I really liked it but others didn't think it was creamy enough. The two burgers that were ordered were average burgers, they both lacked flavor. The Sweet potato French fries were ok, what you'd expect for bar food, the onion rings were more like strings that were soggy and limp. Not your traditional large hand cut onion rings, so I was sad and disappointed. They also lacked any flavor. 3 plates of salmon, one had to go back because it was raw inside. I really wanted to love this place, since I grew up just around the corner and our family frequented the original Kearney feed store for 3 decades. We chose this place for our once a month family dinner night out. It's been open for about two weeks now and it's an understatement to say they have a few kinks to work out, including the service. Maybe we just came on a bad night. It does have an amazing outdoor area in the back, however I was told by the hostess they don't offer service outdoors. Hopefully this changes. After living in Austin, where service outdoors is the norm, it was unusual to see such a pretty outdoor area completely vacant. I haven't decided if I'll return. There are so many better options food wise that I doubt my motivation for a second chance will be there. I used to be a fan of Kearneys Feed Yard until today. I've frequented that place religiously and spent a lot of my money there. But today I go in to sit down at the bar, only to be told by Rob that all of the vacant seats were reserved. And there was a lot of vacant seats. Needless to say, that was a slap in the face to a regular customer. I turned and walked out. To be denied the opportunity to eat, because seats were held for I guess the "special people", says it all. They have lost my business for good. That only shows me that my money and business didn't mean shit there. So I will never recommend this establishment to anyone. If you want dedicated service, Kearneys is NOT the place. read more

It a nice setting, waiter was a bit weird by not asking everyone at the table what we wanted, he would just ask one person and leave and we all wanted to order different appetizers and drinks. Ordered the "chopped steak" which was just a hamburger patty, I got it medium rare and they did good for my cooked preferences and "tortilla soup" tasted more like a chilli with chicken. Would like to give a review but can't. Basically the seating process sucks. I understand having to wait on a Saturday night and we were prepared. Hostess told us the wait would be about 30 minutes at 5:00. We noticed there were several tables that were reserved for people coming in later. As we waited the hostess took more reservations over the phone and tied up more tables for parties coming in later. After 40 minutes, and after 2 tables were seated, we checked to see where we were at. Have regularly eaten here and at first was positive, even though menu kept changing, food was good. Unfortunately, today was totally disappointing. My husband had the speghetti w smoked meatballs several weeks ago and raved about them so I took my son so he could try them tonight. When Jasmine ( waitress) brought out the meal, she put this plate of spaghetti in front of him and when I asked "where are the meatballs?", She explained that they no longer had the meatballs and made it with a marinara sauce. The menu clearly said w smoked meatballs. You just don't being out a plate of food to substitute what was ordered. Bad idea. Then have the audacity to take 10% of his meal to compensate for it. What a joke! How about letting your customer know you no longer have the meatballs prior to serving the meal or just not charge for something other than what was ordered. We had really fresh fried pickles, they tasted great however the ranch tasted like nothing. We ordered chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak which came with a side salad/soup and mash potatoes. We got our salad about 3 minutes before our food. The salad was a nice looking iceberg salad. When our food arrived I could see that the chicken wasn't properly battered because the batter and chicken separated. We took our first taste of our entre and side and neither one had any seasoning or flavor. This place has a LOT of things to work out! We were not greeted when we walked in and there seems to be no type of system in place. We did use the website to be added to the wait list , but no one asked us anything when we walked in just looked right through us. I realize they're new , but we were not impressed at all with their service. Our server was ok, seemed to be new and kept coming back to ask what it was again we ordered. She was nice, clearly new and apparently not at all familiar with the menu or wine list. We sat outside and the place does have a great set up out there , will be even better when the weather cools down. I had their double grinder and fries grinder it was pretty good, fries luke warm and soggy. My wife had the sirloin and since everything is ordered separate she added the mashed potatoes and green beans. The house salad that came with the sirloin was rather pathetic , and came with the wrong dressing. Croutons were stale and the salad overall was just bad. The sirloin was good, my wife said if it would have come out hot instead of barely warm it would have been even better. She did enjoy the green beans and the mashed potatoes, but again neither were hot. It took too long to get initial service , drinks , and food. Again we know this place is new , but for the prices they are charging they should have had friendlier service and been more put together. We will give this place a few months to get it together then try once more. We like the location and we loved how they redid the old feed store. Sunday night. 7 pm went to try this place. Hostess sat us immediately, waited 12 minutes. No wait staff seen near us, multiple tables without drinks or food. Stopped a person associated with the restaurant. He said they were " busy" ...left because it appeared the ordering was going to be inexcusably long. Everything appears to be ala carte. I may be impatient. I demand better service if you are goung to charge $5.00 for mashed potatoes. Prices for appetizers were @$12. Burgers start at $9.00 , fries cost an additional $4.00. Where they fail is overall service - I've mostly only had terrible waiters and uninformed bar staff - and I feel they could execute better on the menu...they could definitely upgrade the food a bit. We've been here before and it was really good. Today however, the waitress was very "spacey", forgetting our drink order and telling us she "got distracted in the back because she thought she saw someone she didn't like and was like 'why are they here?'". When our food came, my grilled shrimp meal was cold and tough. I stayed quiet and tried to eat it, but when she came back over and asked how everything was, I told her it wasn't good and why. She then stuck her finger into one of my shrimp and said "sorry- it must have sat there while we waited for the rest of your party's order". Then we were billed for the entire order, which was quite expensive because my husband ordered a steak. No offer to discount our meal or anything. Very disappointing given how good it was last time. Well pulled into a packed parking lot on a Tuesday. Which is unusual. Packed on Tuesdays mean these folks got something going on. First thing that hit me was that sweet comforting smell of smokey wood. Interior was very nicely done. We were greeted by friendly people and led to our table in a timely manner. Waitstaff was very accomodating. Before i go on about food. One of the unique features of this establishment is they have pretty large area out back where families can play games or if entertainment was availible a large spot to hear music. Well onto the food. I ordered the Tomato Bisque. Tasted awesome and totally recommended for fellow Bisque lovers. The beer i ordered was the standard Shinerbock. For my main course, I ordered the Margherita Pizza. Pizza was smoke fired and cooked. It tasted great very cheesy and nice taste of tomato. The ends were crisped just the way I like it. All in all I was very impressed, and will definately be back. The one thing they need to work on is the crowded parking. Cars were over their lines and making it somewhat hard to get out when you leave. They are new and Im sure situation with parking will settle down. read more

We had dinner with friends and our kids last night & WOW - we were all impressed. We didn't call ahead for our party of 10, but they found the perfect spot for us without a wait. We will make reservations next time, because I suspect this place will become very popular soon. The service - GREAT! I was nervous when our server, Randy, didn't write down any of the 10 drinks we ordered, but he got them all exactly right! He even brought us a sample from the bar of a drink we were considering. Salads came out quick & main course was perfectly timed. The food - GREAT! Not only was everything all ten of us had delicious, but the portions were HUGE! Chicken fried steak, kids pizza, pork roast, chicken fried chicken, jalapeño cheese puffs, chicken tenders - every dish was really yummy! If you're looking for somewhere that isn't a chain - which you definitely should - GO HERE. The restaurant was nicely decorated, laid out well, and was very clean. The people working there looked happy to be there, especially our great server- Randy! We live in north Dallas, so this was the perfect place to meet our friends from Rockwall. We went to Kearney's on Sun., Oct. 6 around 6: pm. We had read the reviews and were hoping management had worked out the problems mentioned in the reviews. We were seated quickly but it took awhile for a waitress to appear. After the waitress arrived she was very nice. The menu needs some work. It's like they can't figure out what they want to be. We ordered the hog hammers, Caesar salads and grilled chicken sandwich. My grilled chicken sandwich was totally tasteless. No seasoning at all. It was also dry, just a flavorless peace of chicken on a dry bun. The Caesar salad was good. The hog hammers were the best thing we had but the slaw that came with it wasn't very good. I agree with Jaki G's review that they need to take "gourmet" off the sign or find someone who can improve on the menu and the food. It had sprinkled a bit before we went but had all but stopped raining however we were told the patio was closed for the evening, even though the rain had stopped. It was 8 pm and the place was supposed to be open two more hours however and no patio. The place is advertised as gourmet backyard cooking but affordable, unfortunately we didn't stay to try the food but it's not what I would call affordable! Before we left we waited about 5-7 minutes before we were greeted by waitstaff, wow ridiculous for a new place trying to establish a customer base. The food and service was great. The prices were more than I had expected. The wood fired pizzas were thin, crispy, and fresh. My husband said his filet was excellent. The kids loved the cheese dip appetizer. The salsa with the queso appetizer tastes exactly like Chili's. It tastes as if they bought the salsa from Chili's.
