We had a terrible experience at kabab house The skinny tall girl is nasty. She has a huge attitude problem. We placed an order of beef tikka with her and were waiting for it for a little bit. Then we placed the order of another beef tikka to another girl. When food was served we saw a skewer of beef tikka, so we asked her where the whole platter is. Both girls insisted that I ordered a skewer. I definitely did not ask for a skewer; this word "skewer" never came out of my mouth. If they had a confusion or needed more clarity, they should have asked if we wanted a skewer or the whole platter. Remember they are the professionals and we are just random lay people eating there. Any way we understood that there was a misunderstanding, so we said ok can we get the platter now. Finally the food came and while we were eating I asked for tea. After 20 mins, owner/manager brought us tea in paper cups. My son said "Wow!" and the owner said, "Is there a problem?" and my son said "Yes, why are we getting tea in paper cups? We always have tea in nice glasses." He said, "Well they are being washed right now and we have so many ( I remember 70 something that he mentioned) take out orders. And we were appalled. My son said, "Why are you telling us all that, it's none of our business.( Its like a doctor saying to his patient I have too many patients so thats why my quality of care is low, or a pharmacy telling a customer we have too many rxs to fill so thats why the quality of service is poor.) His voice was getting very loud so my son said, "Why are you being so loud?" Thats when my son started recording him. Other Customers could also hear him loud and clear being very grumpy. Unfortunately my son revealed to him that he was being recorded so he got a grip of himself and calmed down a little bit. Just a heads up this extremely skinny girl is extremely nasty and she has a mouth on her. She and other girl lied to the owner that we were yelling and screaming at them which was not true. Thats why in the audio my son confronted the skinny girl saying, "Excuse me excuse me, did we scream and yell at you?" And you can hear her beating about the bush. This skinny girl has given us attitude in the past too but not to this extent. Be careful. Food is ok but you do not wanna have a bad taste in your mouth when the crew lies and the owner comes out very loud and grumpy without doing his homework. read more

So glad I found this hidden gem. I usually don't find myself on Long Island but I happen to be conducting business in this area. I walked into this restaurant not quite sure what to order. The young lady was very helpful in assisting us with selecting some great dishes. We order the Manto and Bolani as Appetizers. The portions we perfect. The first girl was cleaning a table for me when another girl came in to tell me she couldn't let me dine in due to 30 people coming in to eat there. The place doesn't even look like it can fit 30 people at once. This is not how you treat customers and this is not how you run a business. I walked out. As everyone can see, the bottom of the bill clearly states that "Tips is not included" and it lists the appropriate amounts per percentage. Yet you decided to charge my card the 18% tip anyways. Yes, the waitress said she would refund me the money, but this isn't about the money. It is about the service and how you believe its okay to mislead your customers. If you're going to charge yourself an 18% tip, then provide the service that deserves that amount. The fact that my guests and I had to constantly ask for items that your waitstaff kept forgetting is not good service. You only had three people managing an entire restaurant on a holiday with several large parties. If other restaurants charge a tip like this, they give the appropriate service and have proper management. *** The food at Kebab House tastes fine but the service is terrible and they charge your card extra without telling you! My family and I had gone here for Mother's Day. I had called around noon to make a reservation for 7pm for ten people. We all arrived on time and were seated promptly. The waitress came over to take our orders and told us that there may be a slight wait because they had a lot of take-out orders and the restaurant was busy but she'd have the complimentary salad and bread delivered to our table along with water right away. This was all fine, since it was Mother's Day and expected it. We thanked her for letting us know and we waited for the salad and bread. We waited for over an hour for the food to arrive! And during this hour, we had to repeatedly ask for the salad and bread. They didn't even bring us water until we asked them THREE times. I understand they were busy, but how are you going to seat people at your restaurant and not bring them water? When they did bring us the water, it was the Poland Spring bottles for each of us. I didn't think much of it at the time because everyone was a little frustrated and hungry. The food finally arrived and tasted fine but they kept forgetting to bring certain items and had to be reminded of them until they brought it out. It seemed like they kept forgetting about us even though we were the only large party there. When it came time for the check, I saw that they had charged me for each of the Poland Spring bottles given out. I thought it was ridiculous. I've never been to a restaurant where they charge for water. But I let it go, seeing as my guests were waiting for me. Besides that, the bill stated the total price for all the items and below that was the "suggested gratuity" list commonly shown at other restaurants. I gave her my card to charge the total amount and figured I would put the tip on the card. When she gave me the receipt to sign, I saw that she charged me a very large tip! I asked her why she did that, and she claimed that it was a "standard rate" they charge on weekends and holidays for large parties. I told her, "tips are given by the customer to show appreciation of service. You can't decide how much to charge my card without telling me!" She had only shown me the total for the food, SHE NEVER TOLD ME she would charge me this "service fee" when she took my card. I was really upset because it seemed like theft. I had never experienced such a thing at any other restaurant! Overall, I was really disappointed with my experience here especially since I had brought guests. Very poor service and management. I ordered some kind of varied kebab order, but the food was very enjoyable. ALSO, the best part of the experience here wasn't even the food - it was the manager of the restaurant. He has got to be one of the funniest people I've ever met. He was extremely amiable and you feel like you're sitting in your own dining room once you walk into the restaurant. He even offered us a pumpkin yogurt dish that he made in the back of the kitchen ( which was very very delicious by the way). After living in the Middle East and along the Mediterranean I have grown to have a lot of love for the cuisine of the region and I'm always on the lookout for new spots. This place was exceptional and as authentic as it gets! The interior was modest but inviting, there were only about a dozen tables that I saw, so I imagine that it fills up fast during peak times. The staff was friendly and quick. Restrooms were clean. So at first glance I was impressed. However, when the food came out my kids and I were just overwhelmed with the aromas and the overall presentation of the platters! The spices were on point, the rice was perfect and the meats were remarkably tender and full of flavor. The bread was very fresh as well! I ordered one of the family combo platters and the portions were more like a catering tray! I had leftovers to spare so I had several meals for the price of one! I ordered a Lamb Tikka Kebab entree for take away. It was sadly quite dry and not very flavorful. It was also $15 after tax, and very very small (see photo; regular sized hand for scale). I asked for double salad instead of the rice, as you will see in the photos. I don't know how they have ethically charge $15 for such a tiny meal. It was so light and not filling. Really not worth it. And they have me only a spoon... For my kebab meat... A spoon! I don't know if the sit-in quality or quantity are better. But I will not come back to this place. read more

Check out my pic for what I got for beef tikka. 4 small pieces. That's ONE skewer of beef tikka. With tax you're looking at around $20 for this. Is it greed? Is it inflation? It was my first time here and boy, was I impressed! We went there on a Sunday afternoon...the restaurant had a quiet, laidback feel. Amazing food...very flavorful. We tried the chicken tikka and the fish kebabs. Both the chicken and fish were well marinated (read: not frozen!). They had the right amount of spices. The basmati brown rice complemented the dishes well. The potato bolani is a must-have crispy appetizer. We finished with the baklava and pistachio rolls. The owner was gracious enough to let us try both on the house! The only place I've had baklavas this good was in Dearborn, MI. Great place, great owner and amazing food. It's the last week of the year and the time of year where families are trying to see each other. My cousin invited the whole family to this spot for a nice family dinner. Now, yes, my family is big, but she called ahead of time to reserve the number of seats needed for the family- so it wasn't a shock as to how many people were going to come. I understand that not all restaurants can handle a large group- the restaurant should have told my cousin from the beginning that they are not able to handle a large group of people. Instead, they accepted her reservation and then they were incredibly rude to her the entire time. At one point, they refused to give her a chair to sit in. The food was not bad, but the lack of professionalism and the incredibly rude behavior I saw was incredibly distasteful. I have been to plenty of restaurants with large crowds- they were accommodating, and they did not treat us poorly- in fact, my family was at another restaurant the night before, let me know if you want the name of that restaurants that knew how to be professional and nice. Again, if the restaurant was not able to handle a large crowd, they could have told my cousin that from the beginning and we would have picked another spot. I do not like seeing my loved ones being treated with unnecessary rudeness. I hope this restaurant looks into customer service training. read more

I can't believe how well reviewed this restaurant is based on our experience. The lamb kofta kebab was completely dry and bland. We ordered lamb tikka which was ok. We also ordered lamb chops but didn't get them for almost a half hour after receiving our other entrees and basically done eating. The worst part is after waiting so long we got a small plate with 4 tiny lamb chops that were half charred and charged $16 for it. Nowhere on the menu or elsewhere did I see that gratuity is included on the bill. To my surprise it was 18%. For such an underwhelming experience that much wasn't deserved and we basically felt ripped off. This became my favorite Afghan food restaurant back in 2020. I remember someone picked out a dish for me to try and I fell in love with it. Ever since then, I've always gotten the Combo #2 which is the beef kofta with chicken tikkas over rice. The sauces and chutneys are what makes Afghan food the best. This is my favorite cuisine. I used to go to this place Bakthar in Queens but my love for Kebab House cannot be challenged no more. Their dishes are very simple, yet elegant and tasty. It is so sad to see the review of this place go down because of service. Which is just as important as the taste, quality and portion of the food. The one indian man that works there as a waiter, has no patience at all. I was there for eid and also a little while after to take my grandparents to eat. I asked for my drinks to be brought with my food on eid and he gave a big attitude and brought it so late. I also asked for the same thing the day i took my grandparents to eat and i had the same issue. I also asked for a spoon, and the woman brought me a small spoon you would use for the desserts. When someone works in a restaurant as a waiter/waitress you would expect them to atleast know that much. But i waited and asked the guy to get me another spoon, a more appropiate sized one. and he threw a million spoons at me like 15-20 minutes later after my food had gotten cold. If youre not having a good day, dont show up to work and take it out on the customers. We come out to eat and have a good time, not get served attitude. They need to hire more people and better people, for sure! The staff is so rude! I was felt so bad for my guests. I will not be bringing anyone else there again. Food has greatly improved over the years. Kabab's meat was cooked to perfection and still very tender. It was Not chewy at all like other places. Rice was delicious and had a lot of flavors. This was my first in many years , I went there with my friends after a volleyball game , but will be going back again soon. In the past during the winter months the place would be freezing, now they installed an extra door to keep the cold air from entering the restaurant, which keeps the place very warm. read more

Kebab House is quite a magnificent restaurant I must say. I tried it for the first time while visiting old friends from high school in Long Island. We stopped in here because they are Halal. First and foremost, I was deeply impressed by how CLEAN this restaurant is. I don't care how good everything else is in a restaurant, if it's not clean, it's a NO GO. So that made me very happy. I'll attach some photos I took while there. I think the set up is quite nice and they have given the place a bit of a "sophisticated" feeling so you can def come here with your significant other to dine and enjoy one another just as much as you can come here with your boys to hang out because they have TVs set up around the perimeter (they put on an NBA match up for us while we ate). Moving on, I want to point out that the owner of the restaurant came and greeted me and informed me that he just recently opened up the shop. That got me really excited because trying out new places is always fun. I told him I wasn't from the area and that Afghan Cuisine is one of my personal favorites. Having tried so many places in Queens, I chose a traditional Lamb/Chicken Tikka Platter with Basmati rice. FOOD: AMAZING. I made the right choice with the platter. It was everything I had envisioned. SUCCULENT. JUICY. ugh! I'll tell you, I've gone to one TOO many places that dry out their chicken because they just can't get it right. This place nailed it with a hammer. The food was marvelous. They had amazing white sauce and green chutney to accompany our entrees and as a traditional touch, they made us spiced jalapenos to eat with the dish, it was quite interesting; the marrying of all these flavors and spices. Seems to be a family business as the servers were young, energetic guys and I wish them luck. Mom and Pop shops bring a magic to the table that some places can't when they get it right. I didn't use the restroom while there so I can't comment on that. Overall Rating: 5 stars. The food was absolutely delicious and worth coming back to Long Island for. Pricing is reasonable. Cleanliness is spot on. Service and Hospitality was excellent (though, again, this was near closing time so I will try to return during the day to see if this service is consistent during higher traffic) My friends and I are planning another trip so do stay tuned for any updates and/or adjustments to this rating.
