Keke's Breakfast Cafe is part of a growing trend in the last decade or so of a place to grab breakfast in elevated surroundings than your usual greasy spoon diner. Once upon a time, it seemed that greasy spoon diners or luncheonettes were pretty much the only option if you wanted to go grab breakfast. Now with places like Keke's Breakfast Cafe and First Watch, you have better options if you are seeking to eat out for the first meal of the day (and what I was told since grade school was the most important meal of the day). Keke's Breakfast Cafe is a hometown creation, having started here in Orlando, Florida back in 2006 by brothers Keith and Kevin Mahen. Back then, it had the more straightforward name of the Florida Waffle Shop. This location was on Conroy Road and when the brothers started eying the horizon of expansion, they went with the name Keke's (which was a combination of both of their names) both because the name was perceived as more catchy and also because they could not obtain a trademark for the business name Florida Waffle Shop. From that humble beginning of one location, Keke's has grown to over forty locations here in Florida. The reason they have not expanded beyond the Sunshine State yet is that they have not saturated the market yet. The menu at Keke's Breakfast Cafe is filled with the usual breakfast favorites like waffles, omelets, eggs benedict and more. They also have a lunch menu, but I have only tried their breakfast offerings. All in all, my breakfast here was an overall winner. The food was very good, the ambiance was a great alternative to the standard greasy spoon breakfast joint with cheap chairs and chipped tables and my server was friendly, attentive and professional. This location is SUPER BUSY! There isn't a day that isn't busy here. I did find that Sundays are the worst for large groups. The food is pretty great. I went yesterday with my friend this was my first time eating there! We got seated fast! The grits were really good you just have to add salt to your liking lol and I loveeeeee the sausages. But the stuffed French toast wasn't really " stuffed " it barely had filling inside. And the bread they made it with was dry. I give the toast a 3/5 and my grits and sausage a 5/5! Also the service from our server wasn't good because after he got us our drinks & food we only seen him again when he gave us our bill! He didn't ask if we wanted anything else or how was the food. How they have 4 stars is beyond me. This was truly the most disgusting breakfast I've ever had and I've had many 2-star continental breakfast in my life but the waffle, scrambled egg, and bacon were truly awful. It's shitty food like this that makes you angry enough to take the time to write a review because this is my money and the food wasn't just "ehh" like it was shameful that you have the nerve to charge what you do and serve this when the quality wasn't even comparable to a McDonald's or Denny's breakfast. We ordered a few variations of the waffle and the batter was like actual rubber the metal knife and fork couldn't even cut it apart so we attempted to eat the waffle with our hands and it tasted exactly as you would've expected. You have some nerve charging $11 for that garbage. The scrambled egg somehow didn't even have any taste and was rubbery like it's been sitting under a heat lamp. The fruit cup must be premade days prior seeming the bananas were literally brown.... If my eyes were closed I really would not have guessed I was trying a waffle or eggs. I'm not sure if it's just this Boca location or if this is truly the quality of food they serve elsewhere but this was absolutely disgusting. The fact we spent $45 on two breakfasts and ended up throwing most of it away and making a bowl of cereal says a lot. If you're considering this location, I wouldn't. Went there yesterday, 5/1/25 and had a turkey club that came with delicious onion rings and a very nice spicy thousand Island kind of sauce and a very nice till pickled spear. The friend of mine who recommended Keke's had a tuna melt, because he had the turkey club the last time he went and he said and he liked tuna melt a lot but the turkey club was better. Our other friend got this large stack of pancakes that looked great but he's not eating that much these days since he's 90. So he only ate one of them. The waitress said he should have ordered the short stack and he only said I'm going to take three pancakes. Look people could try that you know and then complain they only wanted three little ones well they end up eating the 3 big ones. I tend to prefer a French Toast with a sweet and cinnamon flavor which is the way I make mine at home. The French Toast at Keke's honestly lacks any flavor other than eggy flavor which isn't my favorite. I expected to be able to mask that eggy flavor with the fruit but my banana tasted rotten and my strawberries were over ripe and not sweet so I didn't enjoy my French Toast at all. Now that I've said the bad the rest of the food was really good. My husband enjoyed his pancakes and we all really enjoyed the home fries. They were cooked right! They were seasoned well and cooked with the right amount of char on them to make them a tad crispy in some places and soft on others. I ate them with the cheese grits and let me say this. One thing I can't stand is when an establishment has grits on the menu but then when you order them, they come out white, watery and tasteless. Everyone knows grits are supposed to be thick and creamy. Keke's understands what the consistency of grits should be and they made mine just right. They didn't add a lot of salt either (because some people like their grits with sugar...not me). Obviously we would not return to a place that does not have good food. But Keke's is a step above for several reasons....the restaurant is so clean. The staff remembers you and treats you like family. The service is exceptional. Even when they are not waiting on you, they stop to say hello and wish you a happy day. We were seated promptly as only 2 people on a busy Saturday. We were not greeted or recognized by a wait person for nearly 10 minutes. We finally asked a waitress to take our order, only to be told she was not ours, and she had to locate our waiter. Our very nice waiter, Johnathan, apologized. He took our order, which had a meat change on our eggs Benedict. About 15 minutes later one of our meals came properly, with another apology for the other meal that had not arrived as had "been taken by another waitress". Another 10 minutes for that order to arrive. Both meals were delicious, however, as a former wait person, you always serve ALL meals at the same time! The delay was horrible. Ever year on the day after Christmas I treat myself to a a carb rich breakfast to recover from shopping 50 percent off sales. LOL This year I was in Boca so I picked Keke's Breakfast Cafe. I can't believe I have never been here before and I have been missing out. I didn't know anything about them before coming here but it turns out they are a chain that opened in 2006 and they are based out of Orlando with locations all over Florida. According their website "Keke's Breakfast Cafe is dedicated to providing an outstanding breakfast; a meal where everything is handmade, using the best ingredients available, with fresh fruits and vegetables that are delivered daily, and using the highest quality bread and dairy products." The Boca restaurant opened in 2018. They pride themselves on service, cleanliness, and quality and I can attest I experienced all three here. There is only inside dining offered here. The dining room of the restaurant is decorated in warm neutral colors. Large colorful paintings of food hang on the light brown walls. All of the tables are booths which I love and they are separated by glass dividers. They were Covid safe before there even was Covid. I started off with some coffee which was actually very good. I hate when good restaurants serve bad coffee. Keke's has the sort of indulgent breakfast menu I love, stuffed French toast and fruit topped waffles and pancakes. If you are not into the sweet dessert like breakfasts they also have a lunch menu with sandwiches, salads, and wraps. The entire menu made my mouth water, especially the turtle-stuffed French toast with chocolate, caramel, cream cheese and pecans. It was hard to resist but I was craving the pecan waffle which I ordered with a side of bacon and home fries. Everything was delicious. I intended to only finish half but I couldn't stop myself. By the time I got done I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day. While I was enjoying breakfast I was offered refills of coffee several times. No need to flag anyone down here. Keke's is located right off of I-95 on Palmetto Park road. It is very easy to get to, they food is fantastic, and the prices are very reasonable. We got sat right away and there seemed to be regulars that were ordering amazing looking food so we got to see a bunch of options before ordering! The menu is very big so it will be so easy to find something for everyone! We had the stuff French toast and surprisingly it was not overly sweet so it was even better than we expected! Keke's came highly recommended to me, so I was excited to try it out with some of my office mates for our end of the year brunch. My expectations were mostly met! We were there on a Tuesday, so it was not difficult to find seating for us, even though we were a group of eight. We ordered drinks and I perused the fairly large menu. There was a lot that looked really good and those that had been there before told me the serving sizes were large so I was excited to fill up on breakfast food! Everything looked so delicious, but my eye was certainly caught by the raspberry-filled French toast. I wasn't wrong, it was totally delicious! However, it was not much food at all. The other plates were filled to the brim with food, so I guess it was just my dish that wasn't served with a whole lot. They did mess up and forget one person's meal in our parties, but they rushed it out as quickly as they could I was impressed with the costumer service even through the mixup.
