We popped in for some drinks on a late Saturday afternoon. The bar offers a large selection of hard alcohols plus they make their own beer and cider. I enjoyed their Irish Coffee which was perfect on a cold damp day. The brewery is a good size. For the holidays the restaurant was nicely decorated. Plus you can grab a seat in front of the fireplace to relax The brewery has their own parking lot. A big plus in the neighborhood. The brewery does offer happy hours on the weekdays. Happy hour is from 4-6pm. The restaurant offers a full menu behind their drink menu.

Dropped in before a Timber game recently and was pleasantly surprised! Their beer and cocktail options are decent, not amazing, but solid. The service was a little slow, but I would probably credit that to the pre-game rush. Pretty average experience except for the chicken curry, which was great! When I ordered I kind of expected like a cold chicken curry sandwich, but this was like hot gravy and poured over fries. It was weird and fun and oddly crave-able. I'd actually go back for just this! I'm sure it's not that unique an item, but it was new to me. haha

There's only street parking in the area so that sucks a little bit but otherwise this is a great place to grab a bite to eat or have a quick beer. Kells has the absolute BEST fish and chips. I haven't found anywhere better in all of my travels and they are my favorite thing to order. The service was a bit slow on this particular day but they were setting up for a band so it was to be expected.

Tremendous service. Great vibe and a warm and friendly staff. They opened slightly early for us to come in and sit down and had a wonderful lunch. The space was decorated for the holidays and felt joyful. I got a Caesar salad salad with shrimp that was phenomenal.

Such a wonderful atmosphere! Went to Kell's before a Portland Thorn's game and the place was hopping! Walked in and the lights are dim, plenty of seats. Our server was wonderful quick and friendly. Answered all of our questions. Our party of 8 requested separate checks and we were accommodated. The Kell's burger was ono! Came hot, bun was soft, lots of mixed greens on it...yum! Good place in walking distance to the stadium! Will definitely return to Kell's!

Steve and I went to Kells Brewery a while back and we enjoyed it considerably! We had some French fries that they had on their food menu and really liked those. The dipping sauces that went with them were very good as well. I had their Blood Orange Wheat Beer for what was on their beer menu and liked it. It was nice and light bodied which we desired on that day. Flavors to look for withthe beer are citrus, fruitiness, strong flavors in general and a kind of grainy kind of flavor. The beer was super refreshing as when we were out a day about it was very hot on the day we were visiting Portland breweries.

We happened to stop by on St Patty's day to get some Irish food for lunch. We found great street parking nearby (free on Sundays) and we were excited to go because we were hungry after walking around the Japanese garden nearby. I was appalled at the mandatory $20 a person "cover charge" to get in. After hearing that, I wanted to go somewhere else but my bf had his heart on eating here so he paid for it. The cover charge did not include anything except coming in. I saw a lot of people turn around because they didn't want to pay either. That being said, the food and service was great. You have to find your own table and it took about 20 minutes until we found one that opened up. We got the fish and chips which was delicious. The fish was melt in your mouth and the fries hot and crispy. While the food and ambience was great, the cover charge turned me off. I won't be coming back here.

Stop by for a pint of their own stout, which was fantastic and had the bartender recommend a single Irish whiskey.

Had a really nice experience with the bar staff! Both people were warm and inviting. Had the Sheppards Pie and it was so delicious! Kells is so consistently good! The food is always prepared with care and taste so damn good! Was able to sit and carry out conversation during the time ramping up for dinner.

Always a great experience in this quaint Irish pub/brewery. Smaller than the Kells Restaurant & Pub on 2nd & Ash, but just as much fun!

I came to Portland for 2 weeks, and I'm sad I didn't discover this place earlier. Kells reminds me of the grander Irish pubs back home in New England, except that the food here is better. Ambiance is classic Irish pub, with a fantastic array of scotch, old school decor. Gotta love the older Irish gents at nearby tables, gathered around their brews, laughing at jokes they've probably told each other at least 13 times, yet laugh like it's their first time hearing it. Have to give a fantastic shout out to their sausage roll (the gravy is such a magical touch), and the amazeballs bangers and mash. It's been a while since I've had bangers that taste like the old country, and Kells did the ancestors proud! It went perfectly with the Guinness stout I ordered. Looking forward to more visits upon my return to Portland!

I came to know about this Irish pub in a ghost tour. I actually captured some orbs in a series of pictures I won't share because they're spooky. I came back with my partner for dinner and drinks and it was the best because of the live music and libations!!! Their beer selection is great. They have an array of each type of beer. I always go for Heffs and I was happy with my choices. Service takes a minute but be mindful of how there were only a couple servers for the entire first floor. I can't complain since you wait while jamming to the live band!!! As for the food it was great. I got the standard sausage and mashed potatoes which came with a delicious sauce and my favorite: PICKLES!!! Not sure if they make their own sausage but it didn't have that processed taste. Definitely ordering this again!!! My partner had the fish and chips and he was happy. It came with a generous amount of string cut fries and three thinly breaded fish fillets. I tried a bite and it was crispy and perfectly fishy. I highly recommend this Irish pub for the beer selection, live music and the food!!!

The BoH knocked it out of the park, and FoH was super pleasant to talk to. Ambiance was outstanding as always, and food was spectacular.

I don't generally give 5-star reviews, but Kells is a Portland treasure. I've never had a bad meal…read morethere. From fish and chips to sausage rolls to Irish stew, it's a rustic Irish Pub that does itself proud every day. Speaking of the fish and chips: They are to die for. The batter is crisp, and the fish is light and tender. The tartar sauce is not cloyingly sweet, and compliments the fish nicely. The fries are delicious as well, and they stay crisp through the meal. in the past, I have had the Reuben, the Sausage roll, and the Irish Stew among others. I recommend them all. Stop by, you will enjoy the rustic atmosphere and the excellent service. Be sure to ask them why there are dollar on the ceiling.

I always want to like it more than I do. I always want to come in, look at the lovely downtown pub…read more(I don't bother with 21st Street), and say "you know what, it's about on par with anything I've seen in Boston, Hoboken, New York, Philly, Baltimore, or Chicago." I want to say it's on par with the better Northwest offerings like the Irish Heather in Vancouver, The Irish Times in Victoria, or Murphy's in Seattle. But I can't. Because every time I'm here I'm just reminded of all the things it isn't. The menu looks somewhat right on paper, but it's little things like the spice and bake on the sausage rolls, the fact that they won't give you curry and chips without ordering the whole chicken entree ordeal, the somewhat dry and mealy burger. Then there are the drinks: There's a Guinness on, but the Magners is in the bottle. And then there's the whole brewpub element that was introduced a few years ago that baffles me. There are so many breweries in town, and so many quality Irish breweries, that I have no idea why you'd brew a middling beer lineup of your own AND make an Irish stout and red, of all things. But the most disappointing part of The Kells is that it's all the worst parts of the pubs in cities I just mentioned without containing any of their finer points. Stripped of history, taplist, menu, and other comforts, it's just a place where suburbanites come into the city, get loud for a few hours, pay their few quid, and leave without doing much else in the area. Compared to the Leaky Roof, T.C. O'Leary's or the city's English pubs like the Rose and Thistle or Moon and Sixpence, The Kells seems detatched and at arm's length from anything. that might resemble a community. I've heard they've done (double-decker English) buses to Timbers and Thorns matches, and I hear they're basically propping up the city's St. Patrick's Day festivities, but there's something artificial to it. It's a shame. I know the founders came from Belfast and I know the family is still very much involved, but although the staff is always pleasant when I come in, there's very little about the place that makes me want to return. It doesn't repel me, but a pub should draw me in more than this one does.

My wife and I ordered two drinks sitting at the bar (one for her and one for me). He then proceeded to take orders for people who showed up at the well and at the bar after us. Both of these people got their drinks BEFORE us. I thought this was odd but didn't make a big deal of it as we come her very often and I love the regular bartenders (not this kid). We wait for 10 minutes or so as he makes the people that showed up after us drinks and the waiters/tables orders drinks. Odd but not the worst. I order a espolon tequila and soda tall. It comes and I drink it within 10-15 minutes as we're in a rush to see a movie in an hour and I like to have a few drinks before pizza and a movie at Hollywood. After waiting so long for the first drink and him taking care of two people that ordered after us BEFORE US, I asked if I could get two drinks for my next round (I've done this literally 60 times at least at this bar with no issues as it's often packed and we're in a rush to catch a movie every-time we go and the bartenders are always super understanding of time constraints catching movies next door). He says "who's the other drink for???" I'm in my 40s and was dead sober/only had the previous drink all day. I say, "myself... I just figured I'd order two because I can see you're pretty slammed and we need to catch a movie soon". He says "I can't do two drinks but I can do a DOUBLE"!! So let me get this straight.... I can't get TWO watered down drinks but I CAN get ONE very stiff DOUBLE drink!!! I get this kid is likely 25, but saying I can't get two drinks but can get a double makes literal zero sense. He probably is very new to the service industry but doubles are far more intense than giving someone two tall drinks (I have dozens of friends around the world that own bars and doubles are always 10x more of a red flag). Just being confrontational for zero reason when every other time we've been here they are always super understanding to all the movie goers short schedule. I say, "I'll just do an another regular/single tequila soda..." I finish my second drink after being there for 30 minutes (I know because I literally checked my watch when we walked in as the movie was starting shortly and I'm very punctual). I try to order my third and final drink and he tells my wife I'm cut off. I've been going to bars all over the world at least 4/5 days a week for the last 20 years and NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE BEEN CUT OFF. I was dead ass sober. This man-child told me that he wasn't comfortable giving me a 3rd drink after 30 minutes of us being there and after I told him we're in a rush to catch a movie. I don't understand this awful customer service at an IRISH BAR. I'm first gen IRISH and drinking two x alcohol and soda (tall so very watered down) drinks in 30 minutes is not uncommon anywhere. I wasn't being confrontational and still tipped this idiot when anyone in my shoes wouldn't have (ps I usually tip 40% at bars and tipped him 10% due to his asshole demeanor). F him and until he leaves I'm not coming back. All the female bartenders here treat the regulars like family which is why my wife and I have been coming here for almost a decade. Hope ownership sees this. This gen z puritanical power tripping dork needs to go.
