    The California burger
    Caylynn H.

I pulled into Willits on my way up north, and decided to check out this charming part of Main Street. Most restaurants were closed on a Tuesday afternoon, but Kelly's was open so I popped in with low expectations. Wow, I was wrong! The California burger was extremely fresh and flavorful, and the blackberry pie was to die for. My server was super attentive, and the prices are right. This was my first visit but it definitely won't be my last.

Food was great but Sofia and Richard were even better. I dropped my keys in the crack of the seats and they were more than happy to help me. Thank you guys for being so kind during our experience there!

Cute little diner. Very good traditional eggs Benedict with house made hollandaise sauce. The country potatoes were different but very delicious!

The chicken strips were overcooked and had zero flavor. A quarter inch of flour coating that was burnt and as tough as a leather.

New owner and everything is 100000% homemade. Even the mayonnaise. Deliciousness! And make sure you get some pie!

The easiest access is: facing the front entrance, follow the sidewalk to the left to the corner of the building. Using this outside entrance saves walking down a couple long hallways if you went in the main entrance. See photo for hours currently posted on the entry door. We could have timed our arrival better if we'd known this. Food: Very tasty food, well prepared and presented. Very fair prices. Two complete meals are available to choose from for lunch and dinner, typically one with meat and one vegetarian/vegan--appx $8. We had today's vegan choice which included stuffed zucchini blossoms (really, and wonderful!), rice pilaf, and a great tossed green salad. A sheet was available listing the choices to be served each meal for the month. Evidently, a salad bar is normally available as an option, but it was not set up when we arrived right at the start of the dinner hours. It would be nice if the monthly menu sheet were somehow on line so those of us not normally in the hospital could check what is offered any specific day or meal (in case what is offered does not appeal to us!).

They have a few various pastries including some "mini" pie type pastries as well as cookies. They primarily sell whole pies. They have sweet as well as savory - which is kinda cool! They have the option of heating there for you to eat fresh or you can take and bake. I was impressed with the wide variety of pies available. I do wish they had slices available. Given my party size of 2, it wasn't realistic to try multiple. We ultimately elected to go for the cranapple. This pie was delicious! I am not an apple pie fan, but my partner is. This one won me over. The berry element really enhanced for me. I found the consistency to be very good and perhaps the highlight was the lovely streusel/crumble on top. Definitely recommend if you are in the area!

This is one of the ten or so neighborhood Mexican restaurants in Willits. It bills itself as a…read more"Mexican American" restaurant, rather than a Mexican restaurant and this is true. There are some traditional items, but a lot of "tweener" food sitting between Mexican and American, while not, however, living in the space of the old fashions Mexican places of my youth that specialized in Americanized Mexican food. I have been here a lot, with mixed reviews. Today was not the best day, although some things were very good. Starting off, the chips were stale, which was sad because I remember them being pretty good. I have always found the salsas weird. There is a green salsa, that tastes herby and not at all like chile verde, there is a red salsa that is super mild, and an orange salsa that has a nice kick, and then there is some bean dip, which is never wrong. Our favorite thing is the shrimp in cream sauce and it is really good. Big shrimp and bathed in a delicious creamy sauce with mushrooms. I don't remember seeing this in a Mexican restaurant before but it works! The carnitas had good flavor but were tough and dry. I have had them here before when they were MUCH better, so I was disappointed. The worst was the chile relleno. Good chile rellenos use a Chile Poblano, stuffed with something (usually a white melty cheese, but could be piccadillo, or even a fish mixture (that's how my Sinaloan Grandmother made them sometimes). Then it is covered with a puffy egg mixture where the egg whites are supposed to be whipped up light, then the yolks with maybe a little flour blended in, the chile carefully covered with this then fried up in a pan. El Chicano's had no fluffy egg batter, the chile was right, but then it was covered in cheddar cheese that was cooked hard and covered with red sauce. I didn't care for it at all. The chile with the cheddar cheese was just a weird flavor and I missed the fluffy exterior of a traditional chile relleno. Service was ok. When we went to pay however, we found that they just ran the bill and didn't ask for a signature or a tip. Under the glass on the table is a handwritten note that said that tips had to be cash. So what a surprise! Luckily I had some cash on me so I could tip our server, but this is a terrible idea and I bet a lot of these waiters don't get tipped properly.
