Based in the film with Robin Williams it was on my list of places to try along with a walk down the beach. I fly in to Boston from Europe a lot and have looked out the window at this beach many times. Nice to visit it myself! Friend had roast beef and I did the chowder with lobster roll. I can remember going to Kelly's as long as 25 years ago. Kelly's has never let us down. There usually was a group of us, we'd go there in the summer, order tons of food and eat standing around our cars. Fried clams, scallops, lobster rolls, hot dogs and hamburgers. Why order hamburgers and hotdogs? They would butter the buns and grill them, hot and crunchy, what else can I say! After a long night of work, I was starving and was running out of options for something decent to eat. I decided to stop by the Kelly's Roast Beef down Revere Beach to grab something to go. I bought a combo roast beef 3 way, and lobster roll with onion rings. I drove it home and got comfy in my pj's. When I finally sat down to eat, I opened up the box and took a bite of my roast beef sandwich. To my surprise, something was VERY chewy within that first bite. I then spit it out and noticed a white plastic shredded piece of something. Further inspection of the sandwich I noticed all white pieces of "styrofoam" throughout the whole thing. I almost puked. I am not one to complain about food but this was UNACCEPTABLE. Because they were closing up and I was exhausted, I brought the uneaten plastic filled food back the next day. I even made the young manager Anthony bring me inside so that the line of customers didn't see or hear my complaint. The manager apologized and agreed he wouldn't eat the food either. Took my receipt and said he would get me a refund. A week later I call back to ask about the refund since I never received a call back like promised and the manager explained that they couldn't refund my $20 for the food, that they will only send me a gift card. So...after seeing Kelly's on a few "Best Of" lobster roll lists, I made the schlep over on the Blue Line subway from Downtown Boston (take it all the way out to Wonderland and then it's about another 15 minute walk.) It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon in August. I must say...even from the city it was worth the trip. I ordered the lobster roll combo with a drink...it came out to $25. A little pricey but not atypical. They have some outdoor seating but the place was pretty crowded and most of the tables were taken. There is additional seating across the street by the beach which I actually preferred. When I lived full time in the Boston area in the late 90's/early 2000's, Kelly's in Revere was a regular stop for me. I fell in love with the roast beef, and crave it every time I come back. The last time I visited, I went to the Kelly's in Saugus and was disappointed for the first time in my life by a Kelly's. I was hoping that the Revere location hadn't slipped as well. Judging by my visit here in September, I'm relieved to say that this place is almost as good as I remember it. I think Kelly's has lost a little bit compared to then, but it's still wonderful to me. And the fact that I got to take my two year old son here for the first time to take pictures with him was special. Most importantly, the roast beef here was still excellent. The chicken fingers were also extremely tasty. My wife agreed that the Revere location was much better than Saugus. And my son devoured his burger, but wouldn't try the roast beef. Maybe next time. They'll never be the best value for your money. You have to be willing to spend a little bit to eat here. But I'm happy to know that this location still has their mojo. read more

It seemed that I could almost hear "Anybody got the tah-tah sawwwce!?" from the seagulls that were picking dropped foods on the ground at the Kelly's. To me, Kelly is Boston's summer icon. Therefore this is the "must go" place at least once in every summer or I can't say that I had a summer. I like this Kelly's SO MUCH better than the one in Natck. The food comes out hot and crisp, not rubbery and cool. I'm a huge fan of their fried clams. I've got to say, their fried clam roll is a MUCH better deal on the wallet. It's only a couple bucks less, but the amount of food they give you is practically the same. Their fried shrimps are butterflied and are also better at this location. The only thing that bugs me is when I go and it's a windy day. Besides that, the food is great and I'm also a huge fan of their honey mustard and I like how they never hesitate to give you extra tarter sauce. The people working there are usually nice, but are sometimes crabby if it's super hot and they're stuck in the hot room. I visit Kelly's from time to time. Sometimes you just don't feel like cooking and Kelly's is quick, easy, and always good. Although they are known for their roast beef, (which is delicious) I want to take a second to highlight another one of my faves, which is their chili. It's seasonal so you can only get it in the winter months, but it's awesome. It's a bit spicy but the shredded beef and thick consistency just warms a cold body. Add a little cheddar and sour cream, and I'm in heaven. Kelly's is great way to grab a sandwich and enjoy the beach. But DEFINITELY watch out for the seagulls. They are vicious. My sister decided to come here because we did not want to go into the center of the city for a lobster roll.This place is like a Burger King for roast beef and seafood, so do not be expecting anything too classy. Also the cashiers are picky. Both cashiers that my sister and I went to said they do not like seafood and are picky so they had no insight of what to get. I got the shrimp platter and it came with french fries and onion rings which was a nice touch but they only give you only 6 butterflied fried shrimp. My wife and I went to Kelleys on the beach last night! We ordered a fishermans mans platter and i specifically asked for my food to be cooked lightly. I made the statement 4 times to cook them lightly! I paid the bill and walked away from the window to wait for my order. My wife asked what the order # was. We looked at the reciept and saw the order stated well done. I immediately went to an available window and told the girl, showed her the receipt. She did not look at it and said she would take care of it. Our order was called and we picked it up and proceeded to our car which was about 15 parking spaces away. I came here at the suggestion of one of my friends as well as the front desk staff, I ordered the lobster roll and I also ordered the roast beef sandwich with all the fixings. I ordered the onion rings, to be honest I've had better they were a little bit bland, but it only rings there's not really much flavor you can add to them anyway. Now can we talk about the roll, wow. The lobster was so buttery the mayo was just right and the flavor exploded in your mouth. I finished it within five minutes with a really crispy pickle, I save the roast beef or much later warmed it up in like 30 seconds, and it tasted like it was just fresh out of the oven the flavor was incredible. Went through the drive up in Saugus location it was a wait .. it happens but when you ask for extra ketchup and only get 3 .. you say to the person.. A long journey rewarded with amazing lobster rolls. I have been to Kelly's in Revere Beach quite a few times. It is quite a long walk from the Wonderland T stop, but it is always worth it. Despite being called Kelly's Roast Beef, I recommend you get a lobster roll instead. The lobster rolls are not as cheap as the other items on the menu, but it is for a reason. They are loaded with full chunks of lobster meat. They are not crappy rolls, with shredded meat and tons of mayonnaise. Kelly's buttered, perfectly toasted rolls have huge chunks of fresh lobster meat, with claw and tail pieces clearly visible. You will have to fight seagulls that will try to have a taste. You also get a pickle and some chips with your roll. I ordered the seafood platter in addition to the lobster roll once, and it was also quite good. It had a huge amount of fried clams, fried fish, fried squid, fries, and onion rings. Be sure to share it though, it is huge. You order your food at an outdoor counter and might have to wait 10 minutes or so to get your food. Totally worth the walk and worth the wait. A lot of the other items on the menu sound tasty, but I cannot get myself not to order a lobster roll. It is just too good. A must try if you go to Revere Beach and worth going to Revere Beach just because of it. read more

My favorite things to order here are the roast beef sandwich with horseradish sauce, mayonnaise and grilled onions (they have many different condiments, just ask) and fried scallops. The roast beef is usually very juicy and the sauces make it only that much juicier; the scallops are generally quite large and sweet and fried to a crisp on the outside. I wouldn't recommend the lobster roll - although it is overstuffed with a ton of lobster meat, but I felt that the lobster tasted old and rather watery, like it's been frozen and re-frozen many times. Stick with the roast beef sandwich. It's a great place to hang out for a leisurely lunch on the weekends. Although, there tends to be a lot of cars on that one road along the beach that leads up to Kelly's. read more

Came into Kelly's thinking that the best thing to order was the roast beef since the place is called Kelly's Roast Beef. It was just OK. They give you the option of what sauces and what you want on your sandwich which was nice. I'm sad to write this as my husband and I have been having date nights to Kelly's for over a decade. Quality and flavor have decreased the past couple of years at this location but we are not ones to break tradition and continued our visits, anyway. Tonight, my lobster roll was inedible due to shells. I cut my gums on the first one, and found several other pieces. My onion rings were also burned (something I'd normally overlook). I have a couple of things to say about Kelly's since I have been a customer for over 45 years: First off I find it hard to beat their price for the quality of seafood that they serve. In my experience it has always been fresh, good quantity and good value for money. A lot of people complain about their prices; have you checked out seafood prices in restaurants recently? Yes they are high, but Kelly's has held the line on prices while continuing to serve quality food. One of the reason is the turnover (amount of business they have; their food is always fresh (just my opinion and taste) .I know there have been comparison with another business Belle Isle Seafood in Winthrop. Kelly's still beats them. Now at Belle Isle you can sit down and get beer and food; is there an additional cost for that? Absolutely. Is it worth it? I would say yes depending on what it is you want. Indoor service with beer (and wine?) or more of a fast food experience (at Kelly's). I also like the variety of the menu at Kelly's. Two final thoughts: One: Being that I love chili and have had it all over the US I can safely say that Kelly's chili is one of the best I have had north of Texas. Too bad they don't serve it year round. I have often bought 2 to 3 quarts and have frozen it so that I can enjoy it year round (summer included) and very reasonably priced. Two: This is the big one. Kelly's Lobster Roll (and even their Surf 'n' Turf). This has to be one of the best deals going both for quality and quantity. I know that it is not cheap (somewhere around $28-29 as of February 2022). But what you get for both quantity and quality is incomparable to anything I have ever had elsewhere, Tons of lobster meat with a minute amount of additional ingredients (filler). Last price check at Belle Isle was over $33. I have seen some complaints about their onion rings; I happen to love them; not sure what others' issue is with them. Couple of final points: Their tartar sauce beats all. Period. Chicken fingers: In general you either like them (no matter where they come from) or not. Kelly's chicken fingers have always been a great value for the money. They serve them as an individual order or as a chicken finger plate. They are (in my opinion) perfectly spiced and always, always moist; neither cardboard nor hockey pucks. That's it from me. Now if I could just get their chili recipe I would be a very happy man. In closing I want to emphasize that I have had lobster rolls from all kinds of "shacks" to top level seafood restaurants; in my opinion price quality and quantity place Kelly's lobster roll above all of them. Very good lobster roll for a great value! The meat is super fresh and I liked that I was able to ask for it dry with no mayo or celery, but get some melted butter on the side, it helps a lot! Wish I would have tried the Surf and Turf but I'll save it for next time! Only downfall is that I was the only one who enjoyed my food. Stopped by for a bite to eat. The line was long due to it being a beautiful summer day on the beach, so, because they were very busy the wait was a bit long, although not too long. I waited approximately 20 minutes for my food. I got the clam plate for $13. At the time I thought this was a decent price until I got the food. The clams were great, however, I only got half a dozen clams for the money, a large heap of cold, half cooked, unsalted fries, and soggy, greasy onion rings. To me, however, I prefer the simple lobster+roll+butter and the one served at Kelly's is probably the more mainstream one with mayo. The location is wonderful. Order, grab your food, and head over to the the covered seating areas on the beach side of the road to enjoy the ending to the day. The not so good... The fried food is heavy and greasier than I would prefer. On top of that the taste is somewhat bland and given the hit to the body I need far more bang to the meal to make it worth the lifestyle detour.
