I'm pretty disappointed with this location! It clearly states on their website they are open every day from 10 AM to 3 AM. So I got in my car and drove 20 minutes to this location to get some food since I have not had time to eat today with my busy schedule, as I pulled in all the lights were on and there was a sign that said drive-through closes at 1 AM. I proceeded to walk in to place my order because at this point it was around 1:10 AM doors were locked so I called the restaurant and I believe Nick answered the phone and said oh we closed at 1 AM tonight and I simply said wow you guys clearly need to change your business hours because this is not cool for somebody to drive 20 miles to this establishment just to find out they closed early. I've been here several times and had tasty food and quick efficient friendly service, at the counter as well as at the drive thru. Prices for most menu items are reasonable, considering the quality and selection of the food and the size of the portions. The seafood can get a little pricey, but it's delicious! They're known for their roast beef, but I've never had it myself. I went to the drive thru tonight, and as I rolled my window down and pulled up to the first menu board, I heard a thud at the back of my car. A Kelly's employee had hit my rear bumper on my stationary vehicle with a large plastic trash can. (I was in an accident on Xmas eve and my rear bumper is already damaged. The plastic trash bin made no more notable damage.) I opened my door and got out of the car and asked the employee "Did you just hit my car?!" He denied it, and said it was already damaged. I told him I know it was already damaged but I also know you just lied right to my face. I got out of the drive thru line and parked, went inside and spoke w a manager. He told me his name but I don't remember. Tom, maybe? Not sure. (Sorry! You were really nice, I'm just awful w names!) Anyways, I explained to the mgr what happened and he agreed w me that the lying and disrespect was unacceptable and he would speak w the employee in question. He was very nice and super professional. He then offered to buy my dinner, so I let him! The grilled cheese is perfectly golden brown with gooey melted cheeses and sweet tomato. The clam chowder is very flavorful and chock full of fresh delicious meaty clams. Every spoon full had clams in it. It's not too salty or too watery, the potatoes are manageable. I hate when chowdah has those huge hunks of potato - blah. This stuff is yummy yummy yummy. When comparing this place to other restaurants, I'm only comparing it to places that hare on the same general level, not Arby's, not The Red Onion. I'd say go to Mike's Roast Beef or Lendy's instead. The place is clean and huge. I'll give them that. The service is generally rude, the food is alright, the prices are a little high for what you get. Best Roast beef sandwich in the world. Hands down. I'm not a huge seafood person, so 99% of the time, I get roast beef when I go there. They also have delicious chicken fingers. The fry portions are huge! 2 People can split a small fry. Oh, and the cheesy fries! SMOTHERED in cheese and bacon. AMAZING! And, they have what my husband refers to as the "funky drink machine". It's a fountain drink dispenser that you can customize your drinks, like flavored Coke, sprite, and seltzers. My favorite is grape Sprite. I also love sitting at the seats in front of the fish tank. Expect to pay much more at Kelly's for the same basic items found at nearby less well-known shops in Lynn, Salem, Revere, Saugus, Swampscott and the like. In some North Shore neighborhoods there are roast beef restaurants on every corner. Price: The prices have gone up, but the food is still good. They actually have a kind of value meal where you can get a junior roast beef with a 4oz lobster roll for $12. It's a pretty good price considering how much a lobster roll by itself cost. Decor: Clean tables, big wide open spaces, fish tanks and assorted Revere Beach carnival memorabilia on the wall. There is plenty of seating at this place and is good for large groups. Service: The service here has really improved. The staff is friendly; they take your order and give you a number. I don't go to Kelly's too often, so this struck me as new feature. You pick your table (where-as before you had to send someone else to claim a table while you stood around waiting for you order) and they deliver your food, and also offer to get you plastic ware and straws (since you can no longer get them yourself at the condiment stand). Kelly's is not known to have waiter service, but now they have some sort of half-waiter service. You order your food, sit, and they bring it to you. It's a nice change. Food/Presentation: The food is good. It seems like they are finally serving a rare-er roast beef, which I'm happy about. Many times before I have ordered a roast beef to see that the meat is thoroughly brown. Lately it has been a nice pink color, which in my opinion, makes it taste better. I was clubbing in the late 70/80s and going to Kelly's after hours with a group of friends. The Roast beef was amazing but the big favorite was the seafood. I haven't been to the original in ages but about 10 years ago I went to the Saugus location. I was so disappointed it took me all this time to go back. We ordered a small fried scallop box and a lobster roll. The lobster roll was very generous for the $16 price tag but was obviously made with previously frozen lobster that was so watery and tasteless it made me want to cry. It's really a sin that the best tasting thing on a lobster roll is the butter toasted roll. The scallops were not fresh and had been washed so much that they had no taste and a slightly fishy odor. The batter wouldn't stay on when you picked them up with a fork so. Tried to pick them up with my fingers...no luck. The batter was left in the tartar sauce (the best part of this dish)! I have to say if I go back in another 10 years it will be too soon. Everything was horrible. On the plus side, the counter help was friendly and helpful and the bathroom was spotless none of which means squat if the food is lousy. read more

Went here for a quick take out order of clam chowder and a small fry on a cold New England day. Went inside instead of the drive thru. Noticed 85% of the staff is Guatemalan, I guess Kelly's found kids and retirees to be too expensive. It was extremely slow when I went, around 3:30pm. While I was waiting I noticed a party of three waiting to place their order, apparently I was the only one who noticed because the staff basically ignored them for about five minutes until a man, who I am assuming was the manager took their order. I waited a bit more for my clam chowder and fries and then a bit more. The person who took my order handed it to me, instead of calling my name and having me come to the counter. Nice I thought, thank you I said. Sadly I didn't bother to check what was inside the bag. Got home, it was a pastrami sandwich and a side of fries. wtf, I called Kellys and asked to speak to the manager. I mean Kelly's is good but there are better. I went for the first time and was surprised at how huge it is, everything is. The dining area is huge, and I felt like I was at disney world when ordering food, the way that it is set up, roped off cashier lines etc. So the menu looked really good and the food that came out looked really good. You order the food and take a number and someone brings it to you. I ordered a small (huge) roast beef sandwich with BBQ, Onions, lettuce and pickles. It could have used more BBQ sauce, i like mine drenched in it, so I guess if i go again I can say that. The bun was toasted, and was good and the roast beef was excellent. The price? $5.95 for a sandwich only. A little steep and honestly not worth the price, and that is su'in su'in coming from a fatty like me. My friend got the same but with fries, which also was a large portion, but the fried were nothing to write home about. I mean, i have had some GOOD fries and some...fries. These were just fries. In the end, I might come here again if someone I am with MUST go and I will enjoy it, but its def not my top choice. Kelly's on Route 1 in Saugus, MA. Had never been to this one until recently...and wow, that place is setup to move some serious numbers of foodies. There are probably a good 8 Cash Registers across the front of the dining room where you can order...and plenty of staff running around, cleaning the dining room and bustling about behind the counter. A few friends and I stopped in here and got a Kelly's Roast Beef sandwich, with the typical BBQ sauce and a slice of cheesy goodness. We all decided to split an order of rings...cuz they looked pretty massive in portion. Although my dining companions were not overly impressed with the Roast Beef sandwich, I think they're expectations were pretty high of the infamous sandwich shop. I, on the other hand, enjoyed the sandwich...the quality of the Roast Beef is really good and piled high. The bun is awesome...and grilled nicely with a little butter. I think we all agreed we would get extra sauce the next time...as the meat-to-sauce ratio was off. They have a ton of foodie items at this place...but we had to try the Flagship Roast Beef sandwich...since none of us had been to that particular Kelly's. I think the only other time I had Kelly's was the one in the Jordan's Furniture in Framingham...that was a long time ago. So the Sandwich probably scored around a 2-3 star grade between all the opinions that day... But the Onion Rings...was seriously 4.5, if not 5 stars. We all really liked them...good thick ring that wasn't under/over battered...good tasting onion too...I bet they dry out their onions really well before deep frying them which helps them stay crisp.
