last night we visited Kelly's on Rt 1. Upon entering we were greeted by the coolest cashier ever. She was very down to earth and funny. I think her name began with a "D". She was wearing a name tag. So totally nice. Really. We ordered a few things and seriously we never have an issue (and I'm picky) with Kelly's. Ever. I saw that they were offering chili. I did have some before at the Kelly's up by the Liberty Tree Mall and it was very tasty. We ordered a couple of cups. I dunno what happened but this chili was soooooooooooooooooooo spicy (hot) that I didn't finish it. I didn't remember it being like this at my visit to the Kelly's by the Liberty Tree Mall or else I wouldn't have ordered it because like I said before, I'm picky. I enjoy their buffalo chicken wraps. I would enjoy them more if the chicken was hot! They use cold chicken :) read more

I ordered a cup of clam chowder, a side shrimp and coleslaw. Chowder had no flavor at all and didn't taste fresh. Shrimp tasted decent but the portion wasn't worth the money! Suffice it to say I will not be ordering seafood at Kelly's read more

Review is for the Fish & Chips. I've eaten at the Saugus Kelly's dozens of times over the years. I've always been fairly pleased with the Roast Beef, however, I recently tried the Fish & Chips, thinking that Kelly's is very well known for the seafood. I never had more bland, tasteless fish. Such great late night food! My husband is a huge fan of the cheeseburger plate and I always stick with the grilled cheese with tomato (best one I've ever had). A little more pricy than average "fast food" but makes up for it in quality. We also love going down the beach (revere location) for great breakfast sandwiches! read more

I have been to Kelly's hundreds of times. But this time wasn't so good. I got the lobster roll which is usually good but it was wet and it made my roll soggy. Take something as simple as a lobster roll done right it is absolutely delicious but today it fell short. My husband got a large roast beef, it was dry. They never can get the right order at the drive-thru. Never. Every single time I have gone through and gotten home the order is always wrong. Even after I have repeated and confirmed at all 3 windows in the drive-thru. Don't think it should be necessary to open my food at the drive-thru to check. Not sure what the obsession with the Roast Beef and Seafood places up here. Visited two different Kelly's (this one included) since I was under the impression it's the best around. Both times I got some sort of fried seafood dish. The good news? It probably is the best RB&S place I've been to. The bad news? It's still bland and flavorless, just like all the others. read more

Very disappointed... Went last week ..ordered a couple of double cheese burgers ,2 lobster rolls and fries to go.. The burgers were horrible.. Patties were paper thin no toppings(even after I repeated it to the girl twice)... The lobster rolls were lite.. More roll than lobster.. I was really surprised because to be honest I have always had a good meal at Kelly's ..and they USE to be consistent...all in all a major waste of time and money... Always delicious, always hot and fast! I have had a couple of different things here but always find the roast beef the BEST (duh). I love the thin onion rings and the coke machine which has orange (?) diet coke! Kelly's is a Massachusetts staple. You won't be disappointed. Only downside is that it's is a bit over priced. read more

The worst meal I ever had at Kelly's. We ordered claim chowder and onion rings. The claim chowder was awful. Instead of a nice thick sauce, it had the consistency of MILK and very watery. The onion rings were cold and did not taste fresh. Probably left over from lunch. We ate there on 8/4/17 at 3 p.m. I brought he onion back up and said I wanted a fresh and hot onion rings. CANNOT believe he took those same onion rings and put them in a microwave and gave them back to me. Will not return to this Kelly's again. This was the Kelly's in Saugus, MA. read more

Expensive no matter what you get. I usually get the tuna roll which is very good or the cheeseburger. I'll never get the roast beef there as it's too thick and flavorless for me. Bought 4 lobster rolls, 6:30PM, Sat 3/30, Rt 1 Saugus location. Lobster meat was watery and limp. Roll was soggy. I know Kelly's can make a good to excellent lobster roll, as I have eaten same both from the Rt 1 location and Revere beach. These were simply pathetic. Perhaps they are buying cheaper, previously frozen lobster, or have just taken their eye off the ball. It didn't help that after a week, I had no response to an email sent to Kelly's. read more

Went for lunch yesterday with my husband. I always order the lobster roll. It's pricey but it's simply the best. I honestly have not found another place with a better one. Tried their cole slaw yesterday, too. Very good. Just enough mayonnaise to hold it together. My husband had their small roast beef sandwich. He told me that it was delicious and for a "small" plenty to eat. I also tried their frappe yesterday. Also very good. Not so frozen that you couldn't easily drink it. Have to say the only thing my husband and I have ever ordered here that we didn't like is their onion rings. No flavor to speak of. Otherwise, if you can get passed driving on Route 1, love this location. Plenty of parking. read more

After having grown up in New England, I just "found" Kelly's about 5 years ago. We were pleasantly surprised to find GF offerings on their famous Roast Beef sandwiches, the bun is GF. They are good to ask if this is a preference or an allergy at the time of ordering. Portions of roast beef are sizable, and I love the grilled onions on top! It's a "fast food" restaurant, but the atmosphere is COOL (fish tanks everywhere), and the food is way better than other "fast food" (AKA McD's etc.) places. read more

This Kelleys is far and away the better of the two locations (Revere) The drive through line moves very quick & the seafood here is awesome! Forget driving 25 miles for great new England sea food. I have been going to Kelly's for over 40 years. I always loved their lobster rolls and fried clams. Well the last two times I have been to the one in Saugus, Ma., my experience was horrible. The lobster rolls don't have any taste anymore and are a little watery, almost as if the lobster had been frozen. My husband got the clams and scallops. The scallops were good, but the clams were awful. I doubt very much if I'll ever go back. What a shame for a place I always enjoyed going to, especially to Revere Beach when I was a teen. read more

Kelly's is a very frustrating place to get a roast beef sandwich. One day you'll go and it will a hot, melt in your mouth, sandwich with a great butter toasted bun, but you'll go another time and it's cold beef that is over cooked and tough. You'd be able to get by the inconsistency if the prices were more reasonable. A meal for two: 2 roast beef sandwiches, fries to split, and two small sodas gets you over $20. It's not a bad place, just don't see the hype over Kelly's. read more

If I could give 2 1/2 stars, I would. The stars I did give because 1) You can have Kelly's without standing in a long line at the beach, hoping and praying a seagull doesn't shit on your head (yes, it happened to me once in Revere.) 2) They have these two beautiful aquariums that never cease to amaze my three-year-old. And the downsides? 1) The Quality of Food - Definitely not the Kelly's I remember. Once upon a time, they had The Best Onion Rings ANYWHERE. Now, they're bland and greasey has hell. And their wold famous roast beef sandwiches are lacking the meat, and if you order sauce or mayo, they DROWN the sandwich in it, so make sure you ask them for 'light' sauce or 'light' mayo. 2) THE PRICES!!! Want a lobster roll? You'll have to finance it. And they no longer sell the combo plates. you now have to order everything separately, so they can overcharge you even more. Basically, the only time I go to Kelly's anymore is when my little one asks, "Mommy, can we go to the fish tank place?" Well the sandwich we got yesterday (2/8/14) at the Saugus location was way below par...whomever was working the roast beef station at the restaurant was not paying close attention to the meat they were putting in the sandwich...a major disappointment! There was always one thing we thought we could count on visiting Kelly's, and that was a quality roast beef sandwich...we're not so sure anymore. If the manager of the location reads these reviews, please take heed, the quality level needs to be retained...don't forget that even great named restaurants like Hilltop Steakhouse, right down the street from you, can go down the tubes if mismanaged!! Do yourself a favor and head to the Kellys on Revere beach. The saugus Kellys is poorer in quality and portion. Get chicken fingers in saugus and they'll be about 4 tiny pieces, go to Revere and they'll be larger. I do enjoy the fish tanks though! read more

Came here with my boyfriend and his friend before we went to Square one mall and I must say its not too shabby. My boyfriend ordered a combo that consisted of one lobster roll, one roast beef sandwich, onion rings and a drink for approx ~$16-17. His friend ordered the Reuban sandwich. The lobster roll was delicious. I mean, when the bun is lavished in butter how can it not be yummy? The roast beef and onion rings were also good. Only downfall about this combo was how the lobster roll was super tiny. We also got to try the reuban sandwich. It was good, but I'm not a fan of the sauerkraut. They have a really cool coca cola machine that can pretty much make any kind of mix drink you want (non-alcohol, of course!) Not a place you should come to regularly unless you want a heart attack! The prices are kind of on the high side for what your getting in return, but what the hey you only live once! Its a self-serve place as in you order your food, pay, they give you a little number to place on your table and someone brings your food to you. Give this place a try you wont regret it. I use to enjoy the Kelly's at the beach years back. Like any business once you branch out the quality declines and the prices increase. Kelly's is a prime example of going big is usually going bad. The portions would not even fill up a sick nun. Fries taste like they have been frozen for years then thawed and fried. The roast beef looks like a junior beef compared to other roast beef places around the Revere Saugus Lynn area. The very thin clam chowder may have a clam or two in it. taste like fishy warm milk. Fish is small portioned and make sure you ask to keep it in the fryer 60 seconds longer or it will be rubbery and raw. I don't think Kelly's is famous any longer. This is not the same Kelly's on the beach like decades past. Its an overpriced fast food place that could never live up to the name of the past. read more

Just got back from a lousy dining experience from Kelly's in Saugus. Ordered the steak and cheese sub. What I got was luke warm, hard to chew, stringy meat (the kind that is a choking hazard) that looked like "steak ums" and a slice of cold cheese cut in half to cover each side of the sub roll slapped on top of it. Please teach your late team proper communication skills. There are polite ways of communicating. Arguing with a guest about how long they've been waiting to order while having another staff member in the background being rude about your answers is extremely disrespectful. Stop taking orders at 12:30? Understandable. Waiting in the drive through for 10 minutes from your phone call and listening to an employee tell you you haven't been waiting that long and having someone in the background with an attitude, unnecessary. read more

I remember going to Kelly's in Revere many times as a kid, and I was hoping this would be a similar experience but it wasn't. I stopped in on a somewhat busy Sunday with my mother (who also had fond memories of Kelly's in Revere). The line was long and slow despite having several lines going at once. We decided to eat in and found a nice table by a fish tank as we awaited our order. We splurged and got the coffee shakes. That was by far the best part of the meal. Our chowders arrived after about fifteen minutes. I had a cup and a famous roast beef sandwich. My mother had the pint of chowder. She tried to open it and spilled it all over herself right in front of the server who laughed and remarked that must burn before walking away. Um, that's really great customer service there... she ended up spilling it on the table and then a family with four loud kids sat down behind us so we had to move. The new booth wasn't that good. The chowder is good. It's way, way, way overpriced for what you get though. $6.50 for a tiny cup and $9 for what would be a cup in most places. The roast beef was awful. I don't recommend their house sauce as it's gross. The meat was dried out. It was basically inedible. I was very disappointed with the food, the prices, and the pathetic customer service and wouldn't go back. Two stars are just for the milkshake. read more

The best freaking fried chicken you can get in the area. Just make sure you ask for the bone-in fried chicken, NOT the chicken fingers, which are extremely mediocre. Also have some of the best tartar sauce I've had. Cheeseburgers are pretty decent. Cheese fries are pretty run of the mill, cheese is decent, bacon is typically abundant but a little bland. The roast beef and fried fish are sub-standard. The roast beef in particular, which was very good a few years ago, is now thick and chewy, and was overall an unpleasant experience. read more

I love this place. I have been going here since i was little. I'm now 30 and live in Rhode Island and drive 90 minutes when i have a craving. They have the best roast beef around. I order it rare and is delicious...you can get whatever you want on it but i love mine plain. The bun is great too...its a sesame seed bulky roll toasted and warm. Definitely try it if you are in the area! read more
