We contacted Kemp Home Inspections in a panic after our plumber found a void under our crawlspace slab. I have a 31-year-old deck with a sunroom that was constructed on it about 16 years ago. One corner of the room/deck is leaning toward the house. I consulted a construction company and they recommended that the entire structure be torn down and rebuilt at a cost of $36,000. I then contacted Kemp Home Inspections and Jill came out to do an inspection of the room/deck. She arrived early (after calling ahead to confirm my availability) and was very personable and professional. She explained what she was looking at and finding, and put my mind to rest that there is likely a solution that will be much less disruptive and costly to solve this issue. She was very thorough - going into the attic, and looking at the other two levels where the deck was connected to the house. When my husband came home halfway through the inspection, she explained everything to him - again - in a patient and kind manner. I can't recommend the team here highly enough! First - in booking an appointment, the interactions (via email) were very efficient and easy to do. Second - the day of, the team came and did a fantastically thorough job. They showed us a lot of detail and talked us through what they were finding. We actually ended up walking away from a house that looked good from the listing and on first view when they showed us what a money pit it would have been (this was an over $1m home). I reached out to Kemp Home Inspections for a 3rd opinion on the cause for exterior brick and mortar cracks on my 1941 colonial in Arlington. I'm a single female homeowner with no technical background. One structural engineer said lintel failure; a 2nd said serious foundation concerns that would be costly to repair. Greg came out after reviewing the first engineer's report, talked with me for about 10-15 minutes, explained his process, then spent the better part of an hour taking measurements and photos of the inside and outside of my house and attic. The inspection he performed covered everything from the crawlspaces to the chimney, and he did not shy away from giving us the good and bad news about the property we were considering. This was very helpful as it gave us a realistic picture of what we might be up against in terms of performing the renovations the house would require. Along the way, he took the time to explain everything he encountered, and even gave us ballpark estimates of what the repairs would likely cost. I recently bought a brand new construction home from the Caruso builders in Fort Washington Maryland. After doing extensive research and talking to multiple Realtors, I decided to higher Kemp home inspections to do my inspection. Although some say that new construction homes do not need inspections, I wanted to err on the side of caution and I definitely don't regret it. I work directly with Heather who does the standard inspections and she was fantastic. She called me for an initial consultation and talked to me through the pros and cons of new construction inspections, pricing, specialty inspections, as well as radon testing. I felt that she was not just trying to make a quick buck by offering services that I did not need, but instead was reassuring and made me feel confident that a standard inspection was all that I needed. On the day of the inspection, she gave me a courtesy call to let me know that the Builder had not cleaned the house as I expected. I was pretty upset, but she was able to work through it and still do the inspection. She sent a very detailed Report with pictures and was there when I needed her to be. She said she had found just a few things, but my husband and I felt like she found over two dozen things in a brand new construction home! What was most interesting was that when I took the report to the Builder the next day, he said that he agreed and fixed most if not all of everything that was in the report. I was astounded and found that it is so important to go with an inspector, and I couldn't recommend anyone better than Kemp home inspections. Heather also followed up with me the next day when she didn't need to to make sure that everything was going smoothly and if I had any questions. As a new home buyer, I felt that the customer service was excellent and even on a couple of occasions, Greg called me to clarify things.
