Like other reviewers here, the hour long wait for food ruined the entire experience. Every staff person explained up front that we need to bear with them because it is hard to find help with COVID. My wife and I are understanding of that but, 20 minutes to get a water or drink seems like they just don't care. After 50 minutes we decided to leave Unfed because the tables on either side had arrived after us got their food. So, beautiful setting by river but, deplorable service and the COVID excuse doesn't quite cut it. read more

Food was mediocre when you order fish and chips you do not expect fish nuggets especially for 22 dollars. The seafood platter contained 3 scallops 4!clams and five 5 fish nuggets for 34 dollars. We've been to the Kennebec tavern twice. Both times disappointed. Food is just so..so... my clam chowder was luke warm. No one to greet us. We sat at table near the bar. When no one came over with menus or water so I went to the bar. Took several minutes before bartender noticed me, there was only one other person. Music was loud. When I received food I had to get his attention to receive dinner ware. No apparent manager. Unprofessional young kids. Whose in charge here? Wait staff busy shaking their booties to loud music. We did get there later in the evening in off season but I don't consider that an excuse. Save your loot buy a good pizza and great bottle of wine somewhere and sit at home. Food was OK. Crab Roll too Juicy. Fish Stew was really good(Plenty of fish). However the Pineapple cheese cake was questionable. Out of two beers I tried to order. Had to settle for another IPA. Went to lunch here today, no kids menu listed so our server (who didn't give her name, but was a heavy set dark haired lady) told the kids items to us. We ordered chicken tenders for our toddler then asked for a side of fries to come out as soon as they could get them out, because he was hungry. She said no problem and she got the fries out quickly. But then when the food came she didn't bring our sons food and when asked about it she said we never ordered it. Then continued to argue with us about it. Everyone at our table even said we ordered and she continued to say we were all wrong. We talked to the owner who was also hostile with us. Our whole group heard the order. I'm in the service industry and if a guest, even if I knew they were wrong, was that persistent about being right, I'd just apologize and fix the problem. Because word of mouth is huge and you always want your GUESTS to leave happy. To the best of your ability you do what you can to help or fix their problem, even if that means swallowing your pride. Because that one person will tell their friends about how bad it was and about 60% of those people won't even bother going to find out for themselves. And those people will tell other people about how bad they heard the service was and more people won't go. Ultimately hurts the business and the jobs of people who care and do their jobs well. This place should definitely think about retraining their staff on how to deal with these situations, because this was an embarrassment to the industry. read more

I randomly chose this place when visiting Brunswick on a business trip. Everything was outstanding. I had the chili, jalapeño cornbread and crab cake sandwich with fries. I was pleasantly surprised. The management apparently didn't take a class in hospitality 101. We asked to sit outside with our dogs and they refused us saying it is against state laws yet we quickly found two other restaurants that said dogs are fine. We can't comment on the food because we never got that far. The ambience (view) can't be beat but everyone we encountered seemed to go out of their way to be unpleasant. Maybe as the season goes on they will develop a cadence where they don't automatically accuse a prospective customer of being rude when all we asked were a series of questions trying to figure out a way to have them accommodate us - not realizing that they could have cared less. We had come by boat. Our wives and children were incredulous when, after we realized it was best to go elsewhere, the older man (probably the manager) dropped a couple of FBombs asking us to move faster to cast off. It was a short run down to Southport where we are now having a wonderful lunch with the dogs enjoying other pups at the next table. read more

There are two reasons to eat here: 1. You want to be near the water with great views in Bath. 2. Other places are booked. I have had some really bad meals here over the years and some palatable ones. The service is usually friendly, although not very knowledgable about the menu, and sometimes staff can get a little frustrated if you insist on waiting for an outdoor table. I stick to the salads usually which are safe but boring; although avoid the crispy greek salad unless you want everything deep fried on your plate! The place deserves three stars for the location. read more

It's back! The food and service had to be cut back for COVID, which we know because we always have dinner their our first night here. This year's menu was interesting, varied, and delicious--I particularly enjoyed the green vegetable curry soup and the perfectly fried seafood assortment. We were on my "bucket list" trip to the New England states and first stopped in Portland but should have come here! Got in to Bath late evening and went there from the recommendation of the desk clerk from the Hampton across the street. We just wanted a cocktail and munchies. The waitress was nice and friendly. Also seemed like most of people there were locals and regulars. We decided that we'd like to come back the next day for lunch and we weren't disappointed! The food was great and we also had the same waitress from the night before. Can't remember her name but she was from upstate New York, a very nice lady . The view from inside by the window was great but sorry it was too cold to eat outside. Totally recommend and this will be a definite destination for another trip! read more

UPDATE: NEW CHEF!!! Now that there is a new chef, this place has improved immensely. We've had several meals here of late, and each one was excellent. The burger with smoked Gouda was amazing, and chillin' with nachos and a dirty martini on the icey river was awesome. Now if they could just get taller bar stools;) Old review: The food is good, but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is non existent, and the staff didn't go out of their way. The glasses all had lipstick on them and the silverware was not clean. The uppity couple next to us kept giving me dirty looks every time my haddock sandwich crumbled apart and mayo dripped down down my hand. I was tempted to put my napkin under my chin like a bib for effect. No wonder the locals call it, 'the wrinkle room' or 'the old folks home.' The lobster roll also plain and salty. Not flavorful. I substitute fries with onion ring. The onion ring has a very thick flour on it. It is not crispy. The Kennebec Tavern really shines in location. You can't beat the views out on the deck overlooking the river. The service has always been good, but I would call the food average. We ordered the raw oysters and I was terribly disappointed by the mignonette they served... I don't even know how they can get away with calling it mignonette. The calamari was good and we liked the chipotle mayo they served with them. I ordered the crab cakes as my entre and they were some of the best crab cakes I've ever had, but I hated the sauce that they came with. My friends enjoyed their meals-- fish and chips, Mac and cheese, etc. However, we were unimpressed by the fries, which in my opinion is one of the most important things for a tavern to get right. This place gets 4 stars mainly just because of the ambiance, and maybe the fact that the bartender had a heavy hand doesn't hurt :) read more

I was right about avoiding the higher end of the menu. Last night we went to enjoy a nicer meal on New Years Eve. Our server was excellent and she also did a great job of dealing with the very demanding customers who sat behind us. I got the scallop risotto special. It was super rich and the scallops were a little rubbery, but not awful. I ate all of the scallops, but I wasn't a big fan of the risotto. My boyfriend got the rib-eye steak, which was honestly pretty gross. It was overcooked, did not taste good, and the wine that the mushrooms were cooked in had not reduced enough to let the alcohol cook off. His mashed potatoes could kill a vampire, and this is coming from people who normally LOVE garlic. It was a pretty expensive underwhelming meal. Lesson learned. I'm excited to return and enjoy a delicious burger and french fries with a cold beer. read more

I rarely give 5 stars for just food, but my Wife & I loved everything we had - our first time visiting. Now, I eat tons of seafood, from all over the world, so I appreciate when a chef does it right. I ordered the fried calamari with a honey-chili sauce, plus a cup of their special-of-the-day seafood chowder. The calamari was lightly battered, with a crispy thin crust, that was not overpowering. Very tasty, with and without the honey-chili sauce. Not the best I've ever had, but in the top 10. My seafood chowder was light & full of flavor - I did wish for more meat, though. My wife ordered the Clam & Crab Combo - cup of clam chowder, a crap cake, and full-belly fried clams. I sampled all her food - very good. The crab cake had ample meat, and was smooth & creamy on the tongue. The clams were lightly fried - heavenly with those flavorful bellies. Some places overwhelm the natural clam flavor with the batter, but not here. The chowder was less creamy than I am used to, but it had great flavor. We also tried a special appetizer: fried fiddleheads. We ate them all - nice alternative to their seafood focus. There was nothing that we wouldn't have again. Service was good: warmly greeted, and an average server. We ate inside, which is clean, bright, and nicely appointed. I noted other reviewers did not have as good an experience as we did. Picked this restaurant based on reviews and it's proximity to our hotel. My friend and I both wanted seafood and decided we would get fish and chips. What followed was $17 fish balls that were undercooked with raw batter inside. Both of us were grossed out but because of our incredibly nice waitress we attempted to order new meals which were just as unappetizing as the first. I will spare the details of the second meal as it just feels redundant. I honestly wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

This place was such a disappointment. Located close to the main hotel in Bath, the Hampton in seems to be a staple among visitors (it kept being recommended). We came here on a Thursday night for a seafood meal. We ordered a few glasses of wine, two shore dinners, the fish Reuben and the warmed salad with duck. The wine selection was lacking and those wines on the menu weren't very good. The warmed salad was good however the fried goat cheese cane as tiny breaded balls the size of sunflower seeds (think ball of breading with a speck if cheese). The duck on top was decent, but I've had much better. The shore dinners consisted of a chowder, lobster, mussels, potato and slaw. The chowder wasn't well seasoned and had separated, the oil, from the broth, from the base. The lobster comes whole with all the dirty work left to the diner. Mussels were good and the baked potato was your standard potato. For the price, we would have expected a bit more of the lobster dirty work to have been taken care of. The Reuben was the best dish though the accompanying fries tastes cheap and were clearly Frozen and straight out of a bag. All in all for value service and quality of food you can do much better in the bath area. read more

Overall this is a nice restaurant. It has a nice outdoor dining area with and without an awning so you can sit outside even if it rains. The view is nice and relaxing. A summer rain and nice breeze is a treat, especially when you're visiting from down south where it's too hot to do anything outside. Our group mainly ordered lobster dishes. The lobster tail and whole lobster were the two choices. The lobster tail was served on top of a corn and potato salad that was very tasty. The lobster tail was char grilled and had a little bit of charring on the shell and some of the ash made its way on to the meat. That added to the flavor and made it very enjoyable. Most restaurants that do Florida lobster in the south either boil it or bake it. This was much better and I'm never going back to the having it cooked the old way. Prices are reasonable though on the upper end for the neighborhood. You are paying for the view and the atmosphere which is well worth it. read more

Came while on my trip to Maine for the 48 hours shoot, which was the second part of this whole process. We were filming in bath for part of the day and when we rapped the producers and I came here for a late lunch before traveling back to the Portland airport for our spectate flights. I ordered the lobster which was steamed to perfection and served with asparagus and corn. The one producer ordered the same while the other ordered a steamed scallops and vegetable entree which was amazing night too, she shared a bite!!! This tavern is located on the water and is a very scenic and inviting place to eat at all times of the day. I highly recommend if you are ever in Bath Maine to try this place out. read more

This place was great!!!! We had a table outside right by the water and it was such a great view and the food was great. I had the crab roll with fries and I had zero complaints about the food! There were large, supple pieces of crab and it had such a good, fresh flavor. The fries were hot and crispy. For sure 10/10 for the food. The only thing was that we were waiting at the front for a table for like 30+ minutes because the hostess had to go clean each table prior to sitting the customers. But they were busy, so it's not that big of a deal. For sure would eat here again! Loved it and totally recommend it to anyone in the area. read more

Although we were there amid a torrential downpour, we had a great time! The food was DELICIOUS! And our hostess was very sweet. The rain was so loud she had to lean in to hear us, but she was very polite about the bizarre circumstances. They have a patio outside along the water where you can admire the view with your meal. I have tried the Lobster Roll and the Crabby Rachel. The Crabby Rachel was what dreams are made of. It was warm and cheesy and absolutely heavenly. Would highly recommend to those who have a chance to stop by. Even if you miss the lightning storm dinner theater. read more
