Today I went in to the bakery during my lunch break and got some pastries to try. I got a cheesecake and a donut. Once I got back to my job I tried them and noticed how they were not good the donut was hot and stale and old, the cheesecake tasted like it had been refrigerated for a long time so it had that refrigerator taste it didn't taste like cheesecake at all. I decided to go back to the bakery so that they could change it or give me my money back. Once I got to the bakery, I told them what the problem was. one of the workers there took the bag from me and told me what I wanted her to do with a attitude and proceeded to tell me if I wanted problems with them. I was confused and I told her that I didn't want no problems. All I wanted was for her to change it or give me my money. All of the workers that were there had an attitude for no reason. I told them to check the refrigerators because they were hot and another worker from there told me that they were supposed to be like that. I told her no because you have donuts inside all she did was get even more mad at me continue to tell me if I wanted problems. Overall the service is horrible. The pastries are nasty. read more

I'm writing a review because I been coming here for years. The breakfast items are yummy and so affordable. I recently came back and placed an ordered of quipes and they were sooooooo good. Usually places charge like $1.75-2 dollars here you can get them for $1.25. The Chinola juice was good it wasn't my favorite but still good. I would advise to order up ahead because it was crazy pack and a line outside the store during the holidays. Luckily since I ordered mine a day before I just came in and paid. They have great fresh bread I heard a guy say he drove 4 hours just to come get there breads. They also make old school how chocolate they have really old pans and have the best traditional coffee/ chocolate. I would recommend to stop in you will definitely find something you like. The staff is disgustingly rude. After purchasing a cake and two coffees while I am adding sugar to my coffee the worker snatch the spoon from my hand and told me I was contaminating the sugar being that Is in a big container in a space where you add it yourself. If that was the case why not have package sugar. It felt like they were being rude due to the fact that my friend and I were both from the LGBTQ community. Dominican bakeries are awesome, having a range of pastry treats for any time of day. This particular bakery was a part of my morning for the better part of three years while I worked uptown and played a major role in helping me survive my work days. The coffee here is outstanding. Strong, espresso style coffee mixed with some milk, cinnamon and sugar is like dessert for breakfast, and this place truly does the cafe con leche right. Also, getting a tostada con queso con tomate (grilled cheese with tomato) always made my mornings better and had me feeling stuffed before I was two hours into the day. For those that want to try this tasty sandwich, I recommend asking for a sprinkling of salt as well. At lunch, I'd ask for the tostada con queso with ham, which is prepared right before your eyes (as is every sandwich) and comes out warm, toasty, and delicious. If you're in a rush and can't wait to have something prepared (or you simply lose ten minutes due to the overwhelming morning crowds), then order a relleno, which is like a pre-made ham and cheese rolled up in a piece of tasty bread. The quipes here, which are beef-filled pastries made of yuca (I think, although I just eat them and don't ask questions) are also a treat, especially if heated up. If you're in need of a sweet fix, the bizcochos (Dominican cakes) are noteworthy here too. I recommend the guava, dulce de leche, or pineapple filling. Oh, and a note for the uninitiated in Dominican bakeries (and many things Dominican): your best bet is to just shout your order and then attach a polite "Please" at the end. This place can be chaotic and the workers get stressed and can easily overlook the timid that do not make their presence felt, so you must assert yourself and let it be known that you would like to order (diplomatically, of course). read more

Kenny Bakery is my local neighborhood bakery. Of course you can find fresh baked bread and pastries, but they also offer a ton of Dominican treats. For family gatherings I usually stop by and pick up a flan, which is so amazing, or a fresh loaf of bread. Also, even though it's really unhealthy I like their fried goods like the pasteles, quipes, and such to snack on. On weekends, I'll grab some toast and oatmeal to go for breakfast (my all time favorite!). I recommend trying any of the above if you've never had anything from a Dominican bakery before. read more

This bakery has been in operation for 10+ years now. It is the Dominican baked goods heaven of the area. Before I was vegan, Sunday mornings were filled with chicken and queso pastelitos. Their pastelitos are delicious, as they are baked instead of fried. Their sandwiches are amazing as well. They make it with swiss cheese, which even of you hate the cheeses, you'll love it in the context of the dish. Nowadays, although white flour is not the best for my lifestyle, and I'm craving real bad, I get their "pan de agua" or a "yaniqueque." Both are meat and dairy free. When you walk in, you usually see the regulars drinking their coffee and engaging in conversation. So, if you don't know Spanish, then get out your comfort zone and do some meaningful interaction for once. read more

The one that was actually serving me took her sweet time while talking to some client... While I was waiting for my change, a lady came asking if I was being served and since I did not hear her becauseI had my headphones on, she made a really nasty comment towards me to a client that was there. This is the spot to be! Their quipes are so good! Probably the best I've had in Inwood. I also love their ice coffee. I don't even have to tell them how I like my coffee. I let them take the wheel and provide me with my favorite ice coffee. I usually get the cheese pastelitos with my coffee so good! The staff can be a little cold sometimes but it's just that they are going really fast to service everyone. I'm willing to accept because can't live with out this bakery. read more

Sandwich Making - You might catch something deadly. Do you like to gamble your life? 1. Went there a few times 2. The last time I will ever spend my money there and i should have stop going but i was hungry 3. The woman making sandwich ( not going to say which) but while putting together my sandwich, she is like a little mouse and nibbling on a multiple pickles. Every time she takes a bite she puts the pickle on the cutting board and then puts her knife on top of the pickle (the one she cuts all your sandwiches, spreads your mayo and ketchup). This is not sanitary. Its okay if you do it home but YO people spending money there. We don't want to MAYBE die. I know most of you would probably say the chances are slim. Choosing just one decadent dessert from Kenny's Bakery is no easy feat. Each row of sugary treats on display at the Dominican bakery, in Inwood, is more tempting than the last. So instead of settling, we ordered an array of gooey goodies. The rainbow-colored three-layer Dominican cake was a sweet standout. Sandwiched between the thick, chewy layers of cake were smears of guava jelly, which gave the dessert an unexpected, savory depth. The creamy, sugar-rich icing--topped with multicolored sprinkles--lent this dessert real flare. The coco con piña (coconut cake with pineapple jelly) was another favorite, although it was very heavy. The sugary, coconut-y cake was dense and moist, with a sweet bottom layer of pineapple jelly. Habichuelas con dulce (sweet cream of beans)--a Lenten tradition in the Dominican Republic--were an unexpected hit. The room temperature bean soup was flavored with coconut, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and evaporated milk. These spicy, sweet, creamy undertones complemented the earthy, grainy stewed beans. The pastel de guayaba had the flaky exterior of a turnover, but it was filled with the same flavorful guava jelly used in the three-layer cake. The thick wedge of arepa de maiz was less appealing to us. The creamy corn pudding was spiked with raisins and mildly flavored with sugar and cinnamon. It tasted like corn bread and even had that signature grainy texture, but its heavy, dense consistency was more like congealed day-old Cream of Wheat porridge. The batata bread pudding, made from sweet potatoes, was much better. The thick pudding was filled with nuts and fruits and tasted suspiciously like a fruitcake. Flavors of nutmeg and cinnamon shone through the dessert. This sweet feast, conducted on the trunk of our car (a word to the wise--there's no space to linger inside this cozy bakery), was only a small sampling of the many Dominican desserts made on-site at this nearly 20-year-old bakery. AWESOME cafe con leche ( latte). I keep coming just for their coffee. The best I've had in NYC and at $1.25 who could resist. Strong Spanish coffee with the creamiest milk ever. They keep the milk warm in a pot over an electric burner. I guess this is what gives it a particular taste. Their coffee is just amazing. They offer tons of pastries. Too many to choose from. Skip starbucks and head here for a quipe, a pastelito or an amazing"panini" aka pan a la plancha with whatever you want inside. I love mine with butter personally. I hope everything else is better.* As many know, "Dominican cakes" are known to have a distinct, sweet taste and it's usually in the frosting. In my opinion, they're up there lol. Recently, my aunt was kind enough to pick up a birthday cake from here as this was our spot to FOR YEARS to get their delicious cakes for a birthday celebration. Sadly, when it was time to eat the cake, none of us liked it-- AT ALL. Idk if the place is run now by new management and if they have a new team, which most of the time means new recipes. But sadly, the cake was very disappointing. The frosting was disgusting and the cake itself tasted dry when we even placed an order for a fresh one earlier in the week. Sorry but they lost me here. I really hope that it was just a bad day but the cake was so bad to the point it turned me off completely from ever seeing if it really was because it was an off day. :/ read more

Get the cafe con leche. It's the best. Forget about the Starbucks up the street. When you get there just stand at the counter and the nice lady will ask you what you want. There's a steaming jug of milk that gets mixed with some good strong expresso. Love it!!!! read more
