Delicious Indian food. I didn't know quite what to expect, since I have just recently started exploring the cuisine, but the staff was extremely helpful and friendly in making recommendations. I ended up ordering the Punjabi Thali, and it was a delicious combination of flavors! I paired it with a delicious mango/yogurt drink. It hit the spot. Came across this spot and was excited about that maharaja thali. It was a little underwhelming. Other thali restaurants usually refill certain subzi/naan/puri if desired but Kesar does not do so. The quantity was about right for 4 people however food was not hot when it had come out. Puri were good but naan did not taste fresh. You also do not get an option to select any of the subzi or double up on ones that you may want. Food was not bad at all but was not amazing. In addition, service was not great as waiter did not come by once to ask how the food was or if we needed anything until the end. I don't think the quality of the food was bad but don't think I would want to come back. There are other restaurants such as Kathiyawadi kitchen in Sayreville that have much better Thalis. read more

Went to Kedar's with family . Food was just okay nothing special. Ordered the paneer tikka sizzler , it was good but then cabbage were burnt. The Dabeli was not good at all have a weird taste. Naan was not soft , too hard . Baingan Bharta was just okay. Sorry was not happy overall read more

We ordered the mirchi bajji, chaat, and shaam savera with lachha paratha. Overall everything was delicious and very flavorful. My only complaint was that the lachha paratha wasn't actually paratha...seems like they tried to make it out of what they use for naan and it didn't taste that great. ABSOLUTE BANGER OF A RESTAURANT WE DROVE 1 HOUR PLUS A TOLL JUST FOR THIS PLACE. Worth it. Got the Kesar's platter, the sizzling paneer tikka , and pav bhaji. The paneer was probably homemade because it was so fluffy and amazing. There's a sweets bar, which is beautiful and tastes pretty good. The owner was very funny and sweet, and the food came out within 10 minutes of ordering. Well-priced food, you will definitely be full and happy. Authentic Indian spot with the exception of this random kid eating a (vegetarian?) hamburger with onion rings. Fully vegetarian spot but you can still hit your macros maybe I don't know. read more

This is our family's favorite restaurant. We've been known to drive an hour just to pick it up if we have no other reason to be in the area. We've tried quite a few things on the menu, but have settled into our fave north Indian dishes: the tikka, saag, and baigan. We rotate in a number of other dishes like the hakka noodles, kadai soya chaap, aloo ghobi, and shaam savera. Even ordered mild, some of the dishes can be a little spicy for the 11-year old -- he likes them but in moderate amounts, made up for with large piles of noodles drizzled with tikka. Personally I find the baigan too smokey, but my wife says it makes that dish from other places seem bland. Our teenage daughter is a joy to watch as she combines the flavors on the plate so each forkful is a unique and tasty work of art. We (group of 4) ordered a few Indo Chinese appetizers and few North Indian dishes for the main course. Appetizers were below average. Appeared to be frozen and heated. Main course the Parattas were very nice. The main North Indian dish was below average. Seating is uncomfortable. The booth looks great but falls short in sitting space from breadth point of view. The length is long enough. The back is common to the next booth. Every move of the guest behind you, you will get a "thump"! Really Annoying I would have given a three star but with my two experiences, one was a 4 star (take out Thali) and now it is 0 (in room dining), averages it to 2. One of my friend recommended this store for the thali. I went in the weekend on Sunday at 11am thats when the restaurant opens. Ordered kesari special thali and gobi 65. The gobi 65 was crispy outside and soft inside I give 4 star for the gobi 65 because it was okay. The thali had one Sabji, dal makhani, curd, papad, white rice, butter paneer, 4 poori and an another curry. Everything comes in very small quantity in small cups and when we asked if we can get some more they told its only on weekday lunch its unlimited. Came with the family to this restaurant. Lets just say it was an experience to say the least. Ordered papad as a table snack initially didnt get it till dinner fine happens. Then I was explained you can only order papad and only eaten at dinner thats why it wasnt given earlier. Fine confused by that explanation but fine. Then ordered two apps only got one. Asked about the other so it didnt come out with the entrees. Long behold came out with the entrees. Fine still keeping it together things happen life goes on. The only reason this is rated highly is because the food itself was good. So now either the manager or owner not sure who he was ask how is everything. Me being me I say foods good just took a bit long thats all. Dont know what I triggered in him but I was blamed for the service because of how much I ordered. Umm Three entrees and two apps not sure how thats too much for a family of four. Regardless even if I had ten people and ordered the same amount the timing wouldnt have changed or if I had less people. The service is why I have my issues with this place. Really sad and disappointing New Years dinner. Only reason for 2 starts is the service. When I complained to the server, he very politely took my criticism into consideration and said he would tell the management. But avoid this place if you want actual authentic, flavorful Indian food. I've always felt you can compare the two regions because there are so many amazing and high quality Indian restaurants in central Jersey also. Considering Kesar's location and 5 star reviews, I definitely thought I was going to be impressed. Unfortunately it was the opposite. My husband and I went out with our parents and ended up trying a bunch of things. 1. Chaat thali - terrible. The pani puri water was so bland and on top of that, they only brought our 4 small puris. We had to pay $2 for more. 2. Punjabi thali - horrible. The channa lacked any kind of spice whatsoever. I have never had bland Punjabi chole, that makes no sense. All the other vegetables were also flavorless and very disappointing. 3. Rajasthani thali - decent but nothing to write home about. 4. hot and sour soup - pretty good, saving grace of the dinner. Hakka noodles however were lacking flavor and spice. The other aggravating part was they brought our pakoras in the middle of our dinner instead of as appetizers which they are supposed to be. We went there for my uncle's bday celebration and it was a bummer. The chat had so much chat masala in it that it tasted salty. The mango lassi served was with split milk. When asked the server, she said it just has less amount of mango pulp! The onion kulcha was under cooked tasting more like a dough. Overall food didn't taste that great either. We took special kesar thali and amritsar thali. Special Kesar Thali says that they have special dessert than regular thali's which is gulabjamun. I don't think its worth it. Amritsar thali is not worth as well. We hardly get 2 curries along with kulcha. read more

There were flies on the table and the food was totally bland. I ordered roomali rotis which were definitely not like roomali roti and was more like paratha. Awesome place , we had Amritsari Thali , Rajasthani Thali , Kids Thali and Kids plate ... the food was awesome. Everyone enjoyed it . The service was also good and we got our food in 10-15 mins . Stale , smelly and unhygienic food ! I had horrible experience with food ! Not to mention service was also horrible. The server sat across other end behind me and was asking if i need anything. Didnt even bother to come to table ! The order was simple for masala dosa . It came with sambar which seemed was stale . But green chutney was worse; cold from freeze and perhaps few days old because it smelled terrible. I understand making sides fresh is not custom but serving stale n smelly food is unacceptable. Took my family of 20 people (8 kids and rest adult) to Kesar restaurant. We ordered three maharaja thalis, but the owner of the restaurant forced us to order five by reiterating the facts that the food is not going to be enough. I told them constantly that kids are not going to eat, so three thalis would be enough, but still they made us order five thalis. when first three thalis arrived, everybody was already content, so I requested them not to order the other two, but the owner got very angry and told me in very rude voice that I have to stick with my order. He seem to be very frustrated with us, so the other man in the store took him to the back of the restaurant. I was not happy the way they provided the service. it just impacted the overall morale of the family. Provided very bad service and I am planning to go back ever again! read more
