I walked in thinking this would be a normal neighborhood spot like we have all over NYC, simple menu, decent food. The first time, I ordered Pad Thai. It was terrible: overcooked, sticky, and completely flavorless. Thankfully the portion was tiny. I gave it a second chance and tried the sushi. I expected a basic combo like every NYC place offers. Nope. And if you try to build your own, it ends up costing more than actual NYC prices. The roll was a good size, but it fell apart instantly. And the waitress handed me two soy sauce packets, two!. Even the cheapest NYC takeout spot gives you a container or a handful of packets, not a strict ration. This isn't a fancy restaurant. We found a great Sushi Thai restaurant near home on Yelp. I didn't know this restaurant existed. It is hidden in a small strip center. We were pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere when we walked thru the door. It was early and not very crowded yet and we were seated immediately which is rare in our neck of the woods. Our server was busy but very helpful and took our drink order quickly. We ordered small house salads, Hibachi chicken and a Sofia Roll which included cooked salmon, avocado and cream cheese! If I could give this place 6 stars, I would! Kevin's is tucked in the middle of a tiny strip mall and has a "hole in the wall" feel to it. The sushi rolls are big and there are tons to choose from. Waiter was very moody and gave us poor service , ordered a spicy salmon roll and it was not spicy whatsoever, i asked the waiter to confirm if it was the spicy salmon roll and he said he was, i then proceeded to find a salmon bone in my roll and i notified the waiter and all he did was apologize. I then heard the chef which is the owner talking to his workers about me saying "if i found a bone why would i keep eating it" when i had stopped eating it right when i found a bone. Which is also completely unprofessional. I ordered curry and before i ordered i asked if it was spicy and he said "we can make it spicy" and i shook my head no that i dont want it spicy, when it arrived it was spicy and i could barely eat it i had to keep drinking water. I am new to Florida I went by the reviews ! Unfortunately for me personally the sushi was sub par most rolls had cream cheese . The shumai shrimp dumplings were not what I ate in NY. I asked if they had beef negimaki the waitress asked & they said they could make it - they looked like it so I was excited however they came out luke warm & didn't taste quite right . I arrived at 10:20pm (they close at 11). As soon as I walked in the chef looked at me and said "takeout only." I'm visiting from Atlanta and walked 1.5miles in the heat from my Airbnb because of the good reviews. He said they do this when it's slow, but closing the dining room 40 minutes early is rude - especially when there are two other people just sitting in the dining room. If you want big hearty sushi to where you won't feel hungry later, this is the PLACE. Small little hidden gem in Deerfield Beach, keep that in mind when you stop in during busy hours. It can get relalt busy but the service is always great and wait times aren't very long. I can honestly say all of the sushi is good. Wow! Small hidden joint right here! From the moment you walk in you get that vibe that this place is going to be awesome and it certainly is! We started with some miso soup, mikes salad and the crunchy tuna app. They were all very good, but the crunchy tuna was by far the best. It was seared to perfection and had the slightest little crunch to it which made it a killer dish to start with! For the rolls we got the key west (wahoo) and the Melissa's roll. Both rolls were HUGE! Not only were they huge but they were extremely fresh. You could taste the freshness with every bite. The staff was quick and always stopping by with water refills and making sure everything was okay! This spot is a must if in the area. Was looking for sushi in the area and decided to give this place a try since it was nearby and had good reviews. From the outside, it looks like a small take out restaurant nothing special, but inside it's actually a cute little restaurant with a nice ambiance and a large sushi bar with plenty of room for people to sit at. The sushi chef behind the bar was very friendly and happy to offer some suggestions from the menu. He highly recommended the Godzilla Roll so I decided to try it. Wow! What an absolutely delicious roll! Seared tuna, shrimp tempura, cucumber, and avocado topped with Hamaci, spicy Mayo, scallions, massage with crispy tempura flakes on it - it was amazing! I've never had a sushi roll quite like it anywhere else and I'll definitely be back for more. I like that you can also order a full order of sushi roll and a half order as well so you can order two half orders to try different things or depending on how hungry you are. The Godzilla Roll was so filling I'll probably order a half order next time and it'll be more than enough. I honestly always drove past this place thinking "how sad to see businesses shut their doors". It legitimately looks closed from the outside. It was brought to my attention by a few coworkers that it's actually open and has delicious sushi. I've been here now a few times and they have consistently provided awesome service and top notch food. The entire staff is great and professional. The owner is very friendly and makes amazing sushi. The food: Gold digger roll - Shrimp tempura, spicy krab, cream cheese, avocado, etc. It tastes good and its HUGE. ($13) Melissa roll - Spicy tuna, avoado, topped with salmon, eel, massago and eel sauce. I wanted to try something a little more authentic and lighter and this was the perfect choice. This one is also a good size. Everything on it was so fresh. ($13) This is turning out to be one of my favorite sushi spots. It's rare to see a sushi place that has both large portions and extremely fresh sushi. I am very glad I found it and will be exploring more of their menu. read more

Went here for a family lunch. Have to say the waitress was very nice and provided great and friendly service. We are big fans of Thai food and know most of the places in SE Florida. Usually the Tom Kha and Pad Thai are the dishes we use as a reference. At Kevin's we got a soup that was 99% a Tom Yum, our guess an error by the kitchen. After asking the waitress about it the sushi chef jumped into the conversation and in a very rude way was trying to tell me he was Thai and that I had no clue what I was talking about. I very well know the difference between the Yum and Kha soups. Our daughter had a Pad Thai. I have never eaten a sweeter Pad Thai. It was really not good and far from the probably 40 pad thais I have eaten in my life. Didn't have a good experience here and will not return for sure. So we had to return a few accessories for the new TV at Brandsmart and decided to try a new-to-us ThaiSushi place, Kevin's which has a good reputation on Yelp. On a Monday it was SLAMMED at 7 pm. What I like: small place, the owner is the sushi chef--nice presentation of Americanized style sushi rolls. Overall good food quality, my roll (Arick, $21) had actual blue crab in it. Pineapple infused sake is good. What I did not like: very high rice ratio to fish, if I came back I would ask him to cut the rice in half. Rachel's Basil Chicken was not good, was overcooked, didn't taste anything like the Thai pad kaprow dish it was supposed to represent. Her food came out 10 minutes before mine, so I assume the kitchen itself is not as overtaxed as the sushi bar. They graciously replaced her main with an agedofu appetizer which was supposed to come with mushrooms, due to supply issues it did not, staff was not notified to tell the customer. But it was a good fried tofu otherwise. It's a busy place so obviously the customers dig it, but I don't think it stands out when Phat Boy is only a minute drive down the road. This was a wonderful lunch experience. The restaurant is small -- only two semi circular booths for two people plus a number of tables and the sushi bar. There was ample parking outside in the strip shopping center. There were special items written on the board and a nice selection of reasonable priced lunch specials. You could also order off the regular menu, as well. Lunch specials come with your choice of miso soup or salad. We both chose the salad. A nice size bowl of fresh crisp lettuce and one grape tomato all topped with a ginger dressing. He ordered their sushi lunch ($12). It was the chef's choice of sushi. Today, it was salmon (2 pieces), tuna (2 pieces), and yellowtail/hamachi (1 piece). It also came with a 10-piece California roll. He said it was some of the best, buttery tasting salmon he'd ever had. For my entree, I chose their shrimp in red curry. About 5 shrimp along with lots of bamboo shoots, red pepper slices, and pieces of zucchini in the red curry. It had a slight kick to it, but not killer. The sauce/broth was delicious. I liked the sauce so much that after I ate all the shrimp and veggies, I put the white rice in the leftover sauce and ate it like soup. I didn't order anything to drink, but my husband's small hot saki came out piping hot and was only $5. We were too full for dessert, but next time we want to try their Thai donuts (the waitresses' favorite). We definitely will be coming back. I looked at their dinner menu -- it's large. Starters; classic sushi apps; classic kitchen apps; sushi/sashimi a la carte, a group of "yummy" rolls (their description); gourmet rolls; then there are sushi/sashimi dinners along with kitchen dinners, noodles, fried rice, soups... and even hibachi!
