Key West Tacos is a welcome new addition to the food scene in Cape May. They opened in April 2010. I had their Ahi Tuna taco which superb. The tuna was cooked just right, not overdone at all. My wife had the pulled pork taco which was also very tasty. The menu is a simple selection of tacos and some other Mexican fare. There is a Spam taco which I might try on my next visit. The tacos here are huge and priced well! The decor inside is fun and the staff friendly. I'm generally not a fan of slaw on tacos, but liked it on the tacos here. The entree version includes some tasty sides and are worth the upgrade. I thought the add-ons for things like salsa and sour cream were a little silly. I can understand charging extra for guac, but the others are complementary at many other places. The only thing I'd do differently next time is get takeout. Visited here for the first time and was pretty disappointed. The price just isn't warranted when the platters are almost entirely cheap ingredients - cold rice and chips, tortillas stuffed mostly with cabbage. We found ourselves picking at it with forks to find anything substantial. The outdoor seating with music was pretty nice. But the "welcome to America, now speak English" sign in the inside dining area is a big turn off. A pretty ridiculous and close-minded statement when you're a TACO joint. read more

We passed by this location by mistake and immediately knew we had to stop when we saw the word "Tacos" lol. The location itself is extremely small with maybe 2 tables to sit at. We took our tacos to go. My first thought was the price for one taco was a little much but after receiving the taco which is huge I felt I understood the price a little more. I had the pulled pork taco and OMG it was amazing! I definitely wish I had gotten the platter because I wanted more it was so good! My husband had the crab tacos and was in love with that one as well! This location closes in October so we are definitely looking forward to our next summer trip back to have it again! read more

The folks here were real nice and the space is charming. The grub though is no-no. The nachos use every convenience product imaginable. There's not even a nod to local, fresh or creative. The chips are the kind you might get at a carnival or a movie theater. The cheese sauce is lame/canned like the jalapenos and olives. The tacos were no better. If you stick with the ahi, I think that you'll be happy. That's my main advice: Ahi is nice. Stop rhyming, brain. Ok. Whether stuffed in tacos or burritos, the ahi tuna is very fresh tasting and perfectly cooked, by which I mean it's simply seasoned and seared leaving most of the fish bright pink and lovely. That's how ya do. It's good in tacos with slaw and pineapple salsa, and it's good in the overly rice-y burritos. Ahh Ahi Tuna. That's the ticket. I also enjoyed Key West Tacos' variety of hot sauces cause I'm that kinda way. I wouldn't go for the nachos again, though. That's the thing. Blackened grouper, "catch o' the day," was the topping we chose and that was nicely cooked, well-seasoned too. The other nacho toppings: black beans, jalapenos, grilled corn, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and a mix of cheddar and whiz, I'd never be mad at yoou. That part was good eatin. The problem then? The chips. The chips are bunk. Like dumped straight outta a giant econo-size sysco style bag and into your wack stadium nachos, kinda bunk. Bah. That's my gripe. All those other components were tasty business but the round semi-stale chips just brought the whole thing down to trife town. Tsk. Fix yo chips! Despite that ish and the fact that Key West Tacos' tends to be a bit xpensy, the little taco spot with the umbrella tables outside is still OK wit me based on the truth that I'd still be willing to fork over the funds if I had $10 cash in my pocket for some ahi tacos, if I was in the area feelin snacky. I have been meaning to try this place for years now and finally had a chance to this weekend while out strolling around. Eh!!! Mighty average Mexican food and way overpriced at that. I shared the veggie taco "platter" which consists of two bland tacos, small scoop of rice and about five corn chips. The food was so bland we doused it in hot sauce and then regretted that too. Our water and lemonade additions made the meal $17 which was ridiculous in my opinion. Also they make you listen for your name to come inside and pick your food up. When we first drove past Key West Tacos, our hearts began to flutter. A taco joint? Near our B&B? That smells delicious???? My husband is from CA and will constantly talk about his love for tacos. He compares everything to his beloved taco trucks. So he had hope. Every time we walked by, our mouths would water. The aromas coming from inside were just silly good. We grew hopeful. Big mistake. We stopped by Saturday night for dinner. Man, were we disappointed. First and foremost, cash only! Thank goodness I had enough on me. Second, SO EXPENSIVE for what it is. $31.50 for 2 taco platters and a lemonade. Are you kidding? But the optimistic side of me said, hey if it's that pricey they must take their time with the food, deliver high quality goods, and it must taste outrageous. Nope. I chose the Crab, Crab, Crab tacos and my husband got the steak tacos. We both opted for the platters (aka 2 tacos instead of 1, rice and beans, and tortilla chips). The rice and beans were ridiculously dry. You could tell they'd been sitting in the pot all day. The crab in my tacos was canned. It was overly fishy and I couldn't even touch my 2nd taco. I was getting nauseous. The steak had ZERO flavor. It was as though they cooked the meat the night before and put it in the fridge, so all of the flavor disappeared.
