I love fried chicken. We were in Kailua and stopped by for dinner last night. We got here around 7:30, but the dine in area was already closed. Only the drive thru was open. The drive thru closes at 8. We went through the drive thru and got the famous bowl and drink combo $10.49 and two piece meal $6.99. They have the two piece meal special daily at this location only. The two piece meal consists of a drum, thigh, mashed potatoes with gravy and a biscuit. The food was good. The fried chicken pieces were perfectly fried and a good size. The two piece meal for $6.99 is a terrific deal. You can't go wrong with that. read more

While I do not go to KFC too often, this was such a pleasant experience I would love to come back to this one again! I ordered on the app and while there is no fruit punch option there, I asked at the window if I could get that instead of mountain dew. She was very nice and obliged. My nuggets were fresh and tasty (a little salty but I think that's normal). The mac n cheese was very good: creamy, cheesy, and soft. Reminds me of the premade bagged one at Disney that is very homey/tasty. My dad really liked it. The biscuit is always good. Buttery and so good with the honey sauce. It makes me happy to post this review. I'm a 70's baby. My youth was filled with picnics to Kailua beach with homemade musubi and KFC for lunch. I haven't enjoyed their chicken for the past 25 years as it seems to have been in decline for flavor, quality and a different recipe. Fast forward to this weekend, with the new building, and what looks like new staff, the chicken was ono! Still not the old recipe. I think, but ono for what it is now. Beyond Fried Chicken... What is it? My friends, Joyce in Arizona and Donna in Kailua, posted photos of this new plant based food option at Kentucky Fried Chicken. It looked interesting. Joyce noted that the square shaped pieces could have been thought out better from a marketing point of view. Donna said that the taste was quite good and that her mom even enjoyed them after the leftovers were heated up. Well... You can ask and wonder all you want. There's no substitute for trying it yourself, right? So, I decided to go to Donna's hometown of Kailua. It might be closer to me than Kalihi and possibly less traffic. Both places have free parking. The location in Kalihi might be crowded due to the proximity of schools. Kailua was a good choice. There was only one car ahead of me in the drive-through. The dining room is closed because of the pandemic. The parking lot was like a ghost town. The speaker system for ordering was broken, so, everyone orders at the window. I had ordered online, hoping for some kind of perk. I made an account and was offered a free chicken sandwich with a minimum $12 purchase - yay! I couldn't find Beyond Fried Chicken on the app, so, I ordered a chicken pot pie, mashed potatoes and Gravy, corn, biscuit, and a thigh (for comparison). When I got to the window, I ordered the Beyond Fried Chicken (six pieces for $8.99) and I asked for my online order. They didn't have it. I told them that I had paid already, so, the nice gal who called me "auntie", wrote down my order and efficiently gathered all of my items! She was pleasant and cheerful! I quickly drove home because the fragrance was torturing me. I guess I was rather famished... I took photos and dove in... Verdict: Beyond Fried Chicken - not bad! I ate the first piece without dipping sauce. The texture was firm enough to pass as chicken. The light batter on the outside provided enough crunch and flavor to make it a pretty good experience! I tried the barbecue sauce next...it was on the sweet side. I liked it! The ranch sauce... Not so much. Free Chicken Sandwich - yummy! The bread was nice and soft! The Mayo made it decadent. The pickles added some kick! The chicken was tender and flavorful! Pot Pie - I gobbled it up! It reminded me of when I was a little kid and our parents left us with babysitters when they went out... And they went out a lot - because they were so popular! Mom would let us choose either a TV dinner or Swanson's chicken/beef pot pie. Haha! Anyway - this chicken pot pie had chunks of real shredded chicken. The crust was nice and flaky! Delicious! The mashed potatoes and Gravy, corn, and biscuit (with buttery spread - like melted butter in a package) were normal comfort food basics. Nom nom nom! I couldn't get myself to eat the chicken thigh. The bones, veins, and knuckles are deterrents! LOL! I really don't like touching my food unless I have gloves on! Haha! So, there you have it! Those are my thoughts on Beyond Fried Chicken... -Police report made -Detective working on case -Contacted KFC in town main location office and made complaint (they could care less) This situation happened some time ago but it needs to be public knowledge now. This is a terrible place that commits fraud . From the workers to the main management office location. This situation started when I drove through with two kids after school and the cashier left with my bank card out of view . The suspects copied my card information. Because two days later I got two charges for Kailua Zippys and when I contacted zippys loss prevention they told me my card was used with the zippys app under someone named "Melvin's" account. I have a email to prove this. And if that's wasn't bad enough the thief decided to go on a shopping spree $600 at their phone company. When I contacted KFC manager hub in town, they were rude, acting like I was lying and patently disregarding this situation. I made my complaint to them over the phone and they didn't even have the courtesy to call me back. Apologized or at least refund my money for the meal where my card information was stolen. The last time I spoke with the detective he told me he saw on the footage that they did copy my card information and that they identified the individuals. When this first happened I rolled through the drive through secretly recording asked for "Melvin " and seriously asked him if he went on a shopping spree with my card. Then the young boy next to him starting saying "wow, someone else came by and said the the same thing" So I seriously think this is a common practice because the main office apparently lets their employees steal from their customers. And shame on you guys for targeting a single female with two kids. If you still decide to buy food here after reading my review use cash or make sure they don't disappear in the back with your bank card. read more

Worst service ever. I ordered for delivery. My credit card was charged. I had my garage door open supposed to have been delivered at 7:01. I can see the garage door from my chair in my living room. The food never arrived about 815 830 decided to go looking because I looked up the order and it said it had been delivered. Found it on the ground by the gate to the front door and some ants were in the bag. No phone call to let us know it was there. Chicken was cold and Dry Quality was poor. ice was already melted. I will never use this place again and the worst part is when you call the number that is listed to the chicken place in Kailua you get a recording that goes to a legal office and each time my phone gets locked up and I have to reboot it. If I could give zero stars I would. Absolute worst experience. We order our food, the girl taking our order was talking so quiet we had no idea what questions she was asking. Our order was never repeated back to us and she sent us to the window. Found out they put something completely wrong on our order, charged us for it, and when we asked them to correct it, they told us our actual order was the same price. Spoiler alert: it was not. They charged us $4 more. So they lied to us, and gave us our incorrect food. Then when we asked to speak to a manager, there was none to be found for five minutes, until some guy comes who "wasn't the manager but runs the store"? What does that even mean? We proceed to explain what happened, and that we were lied to, and he just stares at us. No response. After about 10 seconds of staring at us he goes "...So did you get your food?" I say at this point we're fine with whatever food we got, but we wanted to let you know of the situation and to hopefully train your employees to do better. He goes "Hmm... ok" ?!!?!!! Mind you it took us a literal HALF AN HOUR to get our food, cars behind us leaving in line, we were the first in line when we pulled up. Just got home to try and eat the food we didn't order... it's cold. Awesome. Never coming back. Do better and maybe have a manager on site at all times?? Sadly, this place is just getting worse and worse every time... tonight, we order a 3pc meal and it came with a biscuit (which was smashed and looked hidden in the box) a small corn and a small mash & gravy.. we were told if we want a cole slaw, it's an additional dollar. " Oh cool!! I like our order taker, she's giving us good specials information that's not listed on the menu board!" WRONG - but I'll explain later.. So we continue our order which was simple. The pot pie combo that comes w drink and cookie. We add on an additional small cole slaw & 2 drinks. She repeats the order back to us correctly. So we drive to the window and pay for our food, she hands it to us and then says, I'll just get your your change.. upon checking for the food, we noticed our two cole slaws are missing and no forks..so we mention it. She goes and comes back, with just ONE cole slaw.. so we mention again, we ordered two. She admits she charged us for just one, so I check the receipt - she did just charge for one.. and not the dollar upcharge one. Full price as if we didn't add on to the meal like we were told.. so we end up ordering the 2nd small cole slaw that we wanted with our dinner. But no fork, so before we could even ask for a fork - as if she read our minds, she asks, "Oh you guys need forks?" What would you think?? We already asked for forks .. she that ignorant to not remember what we jus asked for.. and no, it wasn't busy.. Drive thru is the only option, can't even walk in. And going through the drive thru, they don't take your order until the car in front has received theirs. I gotta say, everytime I visit KFC, the prices get higher and the chickens get smaller. The service was ok, nothing wrong there. And I know its not the employees fault. I've been to different KFC restaurants several times over my lifetime. I thought, "You go to one, you've gone to them all." I was wrong. I live in Honolulu. The KFCs there are nothing to write home about. The chicken is usually overcooked and dry with only the seasonings that you can taste but the chicken is usually forgettable. The KFC in Kaneohe is better in terms of a passing grade at best. But whatever they are doing in Kailua they need to keep doing. I went there today and had a two piece meal because I was hungry and not interested in a burger and in my previous experiences there was no point buying a larger meal because I was probably not going to enjoy it. The chicken was the best I've had from any KFC. It was flavorful, moist, the crust was crunchy, and the seasonings were the frosting on the cake rather than being the cake. I spoke to Mike, the manager about the epic chicken and he gave credit to his cook whom I praised wholeheartedly. I went back to the restaurant and bought a 16 piece chicken only to have for dinner and to share with my co-workers. read more

Food is as expected. My biggest gripe is that there is no overhead shelter for the drive thru. I got soaked trying to order when it was raining.
