Kahuku shrimp salad in regular size

Looking for a refreshing lunch? We went to Aloha Salads after getting a gift card from christmas. Pricing is on the higher side, but hey that's what the gift card was for. Got the Kahuku Shrimp Salad in the regular size and a Steak Pita Wrap. It came out to almost $26 (so looking at about $13 each for a lunch in Kailua). The food was very fresh. The Kahuku Shrimp Salad came with beautiful and perfectly seasoned shrimp. The rest of the salad was good too. All of the toppings were in their own seperated corner, so I took the time to mix them all together. They give a lot of dressing, but luckily it was also in it's own container. The salad also came with two triangles of pita bread. The pita was not appetizing at all. Doughy, not heated, just like they took it out of the bag. Wish it was a little toasted. Think tortilla wrap that wasn't heated. The pita insides were hot, very full, and packed with ingredients like sundried tomatoes and fresh lettuce. But the pita wrapping itself was not toasted at all again. So the hot insides kind of made the whole wrap a bit goopy and soft. Probably will be sticking to salads. The other salads seemed sooo good! That day I was looking for a simple spinach salad and got just what I came for.

    Big Island Beet Salad

I love this place when you need fast healthy options, this is the place. They have lots of fruits, veggies, and plenty of vegan and vegetarian options...but also the carnivores are happy too! (There are shrimp , chicken, and beef options) One of my favorites is the beet mango salad. It's actually called The Big Island Beet Salad ( mixed greens, beets, mangoes , candied walnuts, goat cheese, cranberries, passion orange vinaigrette)(I add kale). I usually get salads from here, but I love their wraps...(and need to try their sandwiches and bowls) but mostly I love that you can customize or make your own. I haven't had anything here I didn't like. You can use their app, but usually I use DoorDash and get them for my work lunch!

First time eating here, was hungry for a salad after a hike, they recommended adding their steak and it was really tasty! It was enough for two people, if you can eat a big salad and not share, this salad will fill the spot in your tummy!!

    A "wrap"

Food was so so but the "wrap" wasn't even close to. The only thing holding this together was the paper. A complete mess to eat.

Regular size satay salad with chicken and shrimp

I had heard about this local chain many times since moving here and have had it bookmarked for months. They are open for takeout during the Covid-19 crisis, so it was a perfect time to try it out while on the East side of the island. This specific location is in the Times plaza in Kailua across the street from Whole Foods. It is in between the smoothie shop and the taco shop. Their menu isn't super big, which is nice because it could have been overwhelming. I was interested in a few of the options including the Satay salad, the cobb, and the caesar. I decided to go for the most unique, which was the Satay. You can choose either chicken or shrimp, but I asked for both. The proteins were served warm and cooked perfectly. The shrimp was surprisingly good. I liked the salad, but ended up eating it with the ranch dressing instead of the peanut satay dressing. It was just a bit too sweet for me. I was also very impressed by the freshness of all the veggies. My friend ordered the Greek style salad, which she loved.

I go here and order food probably every other week. Its usually pretty good, they could chop the lettuce smaller but I digress. Let's be real though, everyone comes for the tomato soup! I got the kale Salad the other day and there were 4 caterpillars in it, this was at the end of the day so I can only assume there were many caterpillars served that day. I had also ordered a tomato soup and it was left out of my bag (which probably happens every other time, check your bags!) I called and the employee said she could issue me a refund for the Salad. I get there and she said she threw all the kale away, great. Got my refund for the salad and almost was unable to get a refund for the soup, not sure why. In the future if there's bugs in the food it would be most courteous to refund the entire order.

Actually receiving our food took a little over 30 mins but it was a weekend and they were slammed! I'd happily wait every time because the burritos really are that good. I'm a business owner and to me customer service matters more than anything, even when the experience isn't perfect. Kono's stepped up. Everything went well from order through delivery, and the Tube Bagel was fresh and delicious. They were out of something, but called to offer a choice of substitutions. I would share a photo but it's currently passing through my digestive system and not feeling very photogenic at the moment. Ignore that silly disgusting mess attached to my original review, but I will leave the photos up because I think they are instructive for management. Mission Accomplished Kono's Kailua! Not a criticism but I couldn't communicate with the Uber Eats driver through the website app. Whoever it was found me.

Despite the fact that it's a considerably trek for city-dwellers, factoring either traffic or bus schedules into the equation, or both if you're particularly unlucky, it's a journey always worth taking. Hit Hanauma Bay along the way and make it a day trip; the only way to top those dazzling sights is to follow them with a stellar meal. Boasting a menu composed of locally-sourced produce and entirely vegan options, you'll want to take a number of friends for the best experience. Heck, get out there and make some new friends! Join one of the long communal picnic tables out back and introduce yourself; there are no friendlier folks on earth than those living in paradise, as far as I've seen. That said, if there was only one dish to order, it would have to be the Oh WOW Laulau. Wow, indeed! No where else on earth have I found vegan laulau, let alone such a stellar rendition. Traditionally consisting of fatty pork and/or fish steamed in taro leaves, this version eschews the meat in favor of hearty root vegetables, adding creamy coconut into the mix for richness. Not to be overlooked is the Tofu Poke provided on the side, claiming to be spicy but really bearing just enough warmth to taste perfectly balanced. This was easily my personal favorite from the small sampling of dishes provided, but it's a close call when all the options are so good. Another front runner is the BBQ Portobello Sandwich. Mushrooms marinated in a bright, smoky barbecue sauce practically sing between two whole wheat buns. Coconut slaw tops off the assemblage with just the right amount of subtle sweetness to contrast the deeply savory flavors within. Simpler but no less spectacular dishes include the Roasted Veg Platter and Roasted Veg Avocado Sandwich. The way that the vegetables are treated with respect, from the moment they're harvested from nearby farms to the care taken when they reach the kitchen is evident with every bite. Cooked with care and proffered generously with each serving, even the basics make the trek out here worthwhile. I'm still trying to recreate that impossibly umami gravy offered on the side. It's one of those things that are so astoundingly, inconceivably delicious, it's impossible to deconstruct. Each entree promises an ideal amount of food; satisfying diners without over-stuffing them. That said, you'll still want to make room for dessert, especially when you see the towering bowls full of Outta This Swirled Soft Serve. Cool, naturally sweet spirals of banana-based soft serve are dressed to the nines with cacao sauce that hardens much like magic shell, granola and coconut flakes tumbling down the mountainous terrain, and fresh fruits that vary based on local availability- Expect papaya always to be in ample supply, based on the thriving papaya trees on premise. Each order is abundant enough to be a considered a full meal in and of itself.

You can go across the parking lot in MacD for that.
