Very few people know this, but I am a big fan of breakfast food. Not only that, but I am also from New Jersey, also known as the Diner Capital of the World. As a consequence, I like to think that I am a pseudo expert on diners, having grown up near several of them. And I am here to tell you that KG's is quite possibly, the best diner in Tucson! I also must confess that while I had heard of this place for the past few years, I never had the chance to go, since I lived on the other side of town, and did not think it was worth the half hour drive. Thankfully, fortune smiled upon me one morning, as I found myself in the area with a friend, and had the opportunity to try it for the first time. The menu is very basic, but if you want proof of its greatness, I would try the pancakes and french toast, both of which were creamy, and cooked perfectly. In addition to that, they make the bacon nice and crisp, with just a hint of char, just the way I like it. Customer service is great, plus they do offer takeout. The only drawback to this place surprisingly, are their cakes and pies, which boggled my mind. The first time I came here, we ordered a slice peach pie and a coconut cream pie, both of which tasted like they were a few days old. However, upon my second visit a week later, I ordered the same two pies, and found them very good, which tells me that maybe the batch from the previous week was just bad. Giving them 4-stars with the knowledge that they are a no-frills, hole-in-the-wall establishment. KG's is your standard mom and pop diner-style breakfast joint. What I like to call, "Ol' Reliable." Food isn't fancy, service isn't fancy, but you'll get your bacon, eggs, and hash browns fix no problem. To my knowledge, it's seat yourself, so keep that in mind if it's your first time going so you're not standing at the front waiting around. I've been coming to KG's for years, even before it was KG's and it's always been good. I usually rate it a full 5 stars but this morning when I came with my kid, they lost a start because we waited about 7 minutes to be tended to. By the time the waitress finally came around, I was fixing to go leave. Anyway, we got a hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup drizzle and a chocolate milk. I was not really in the mood for a traditional breakfast so I elected for a delicious club sandwich, just the sandwich- no sides. My kid got the any 4 (M-F 6am-9am $4.99): 1 bacon, 1 scrambled egg and 2 pieces of french toast. Our meal came out to be about $20 + a tip. Yes, a tip was given this time around because although we waited nearly 10 minutes for service, the waitresses attitude was great and she only checked on us once after our food came out. read more

Ended up here because the place we wanted to go wasn't open as early as we needed it to be. This place has a good menu and good selection. Definitely a diner feel to this place. Service was okay but the waitress was a bit flakey and forgot everyones juice. Food was fine. My eggs were cooked overeasy and they were actually runny. However, whoever is cooking here, needs to learn how to cook bacon. It was limp, greasy and just not appealing. So much for ruining a great food. This little cafe on the west side of town is pretty amazing! With a 4 star rating and with a one dollar mark this place has to be good! A Co-worker and I stopped in for a quick breakfast just the other day. It's one of those "please seat your self - type of diner". After finding the perfect spot to sit - our lovely waitress came over to great us and take our drink order. By the time she came back with our drinks we were ready to order our meal. I ordered the "Country Fried Steak Plate" which comes with two eggs, your choice of hash-brown or pancakes and a side of toast. Hungry and mouthwatering with anticipation my country fried steak arrives! The country fried steak smother in creamy white gravy had a nice little crunch to it (just the way I like it). Savoring every single bite, like it was my last meal (yeah I was hungry-_-). With-in minutes I had devour my whole plate! Let's just say I wasn't disappointing one bit! Not my cup of tea,and that's ok. I have come here 2 different times. The first time my fiancé and I shared the club sandwich - average. The second time we ordered the corned beef hash & chicken fried steak breakfast w hash browns well done - both disappointing. The corned beef tasted like Luke warm and mushy.. The well done hash browns translates to oil with shredded potato. I couldn't take a bite that didn't taste like recycled oil. Ehh. I'm sure they have other meals that are yummy? KG's has been my favorite west side brekkie joint for decades. It's my go-to for one of those home-style spreads that breaks that fast with a bang. Two flying saucer-sized buttery pancakes perfectly cooked alongside still-sizzling sausage links and light-as-air soft scrambled eggs hit the spot most recently. KG's fills up before 9am, jammed with construction workers, business folk, retirees and students. The service is so prompt and thorough that your coffee will be touched up unless the cup is at your lips. My partner's biscuits and gravy proved too much for him and made a fine lunch for me - the biscuit HALVES were two inches thick and the gravy was savory and hearty without being pasty. Now if I could convince them to open a KG's Eastside Cafe I'd be a regular. read more

I cannot believe that I haven't discovered this place sooner. I had a great breakfast here! My one only complaint is how cramped the tables are, which makes it hard to get up without booty bumping someone else's plate/table/hand/face (hopefully not). Anyways, I had the breakfast chorizo plate which was verrry spicy so order at your own risk. I am pretty heat tolerant but I had to get sour cream on the side to stop the burn. We also ordered pancakes on the side which were very large and plentiful. I love a local greasy spoon and KG's delivered on atmosphere, comfort, and taste. From the outside the restaurant looks busy and crowded but once inside the tables were spacious and cozy. Forever on the hunt for old-fashioned corned beef hash, I was quick to order the combo which included a generous portion of hash, chunky home fries, two eggs, AND pancakes. With coffee and juice, my friend and I ate for under $30. The hash and eggs were great, the eggs were fluffy and the corned beef was crispy. The cool pancakes with bright yellow margarine was a miss for me. For the money, KG's was a nice quick breakfast but it is in close proximity to an iHop where the pancakes beat KG's by a mile. read more

Like the other reviewers said- this place is simple with a lot of breakfast options at a low price. The french toast was fluffy and really yummy. The presentation and decor leaves a lot to be desired- nothing to brag about- plain white plates, generic bottle of ketchup and syrup, etc. Oh, and I can't believe how yellow their butter is! Wow, this place was REALLY GOOD for breakfast! Found on Yelp during recent trip to Gem Show; was near our hotel and ate here a couple of times. Seems like a local's spot, with folks from all walks of life. Big space with lots of tables, full, but with little/no wait on both a weekday and weekend. Service was quick, attentive and friendly. Food was well prepared, hot, typical diner. Eggs, bacon, sausage, cakes, huevos rancheros were all excellent. Did I say the prices were insanely reasonable? Highly recommended! read more

The food was very good however, it was our first time coming into this new place, unfortunately we felt unwelcome and there was no greeter so we were confused to whether we should sit ourselves or wait to be seat then we had an employee yell across restaurant to have a seat where ever we like. We weren't unclear if tables were clean or dirty or sanitize. The guy that worked there was nice and brought us our utensils and drink. Our server only came to our table 2 which was to take order and to bring us food. Came to have breakfast with my nephew and instead of going to the basic standard breakfast place at ihop we found KGS west side cafe. A small mama pop cafe in a place you might not think a cafe would be. I got the eye opener it came with eggs bacon and sausage with French toast. The French toast was delicious and this place super affordable didn't like my bacon too much because it wasn't crunchy. The service was really friendly and respectful. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito because it was the only think not smothered in meat and cheese and asked for it enchilada style. The cheese is that cheap powdery chemical cheese that McDonald's uses, and the beans are fer sure canned refried beans. Not only was my meal bland, boring, cheap it made me feel like shit afterwards.
