Just hung up the phone and start to write a review about this business and it's one of a few reviews I'm leaving on Yelp. I just called to consult about the issue with my refrigerator and wanted to ask the price guideline and the available schedule. the very first conversation that I started with was 'Hello, I'm calling to check the price information', and then after a few seconds of silence, the other party responded 'One forty-five'. So I asked back what it is for just in order to get more detail. And then he, Mike sarcastically said that you tell me first what I want then he would tell me what's included in $145. What the heck? How strange the conversation is? Not sure what made his day tough but obviously it's not me. You don't have to be so mean to someone, obviously your customer whom you never met or talk to before. At that point, I thought one lazy part-time employee wanted to mess up the business without the owner's acknowledgment but another shock struck me right after I figured out that he is the actual owner of that business. read more

Mike is very knowledgeable, professional, considerate, and his fees are very fair. Our fridge became really noisy so we called Mike based on his reviews. He replaced the bad fan motor and our fridge is whisper quiet now. He gave us some maintenance tips, told us at what temperatures our fridge and freezer should be kept at, which we didn't know before, and did a couple of other small things while he was here at no charge. Our dealings with Mike were absolutely A-1 from beginning to end. Mike's many, many years of experience servicing different types of appliances is absolutely invaluable. I went with KH Appliances because of all the great reviews; I was really happy I did! My family is notorious for breaking appliances because we use them a lot so I have dealt with more than my fair share of appliance repair companies. This is what made Mike with KH Appliances a 5 star: 1) Booking a same day appointment was super easy! After speaking to Mike on the phone to give him the particulars he asked me to email him my contact info. I received back a confirmation email that showed his arrival window plus his diagnostic rate. 2) He showed up right on time and diagnosed the issue we were having (blew a fuse in our dryer). He then took the time to put a meter on the old fuse in our dryer to show it was dead. He retested it with the new fuse in the dryer to show he replaced the part correctly and that it was working. 3). My laundry room is super small. To get to the back of the dryer Mike had to disconnect my washing machine and slide it out of the way to give himself enough room to work on the dryer. When he finished fixing the dryer he hooked the washing machine back up and tested it to show that he hooked it back up properly. He noticed that the washer was slightly unbalanced so he raised one of the front feet on my washer to stabilize it. 4). I would use him again in a minute! Super professional and nice! As I stated earlier we are hard on our appliances so it will be good to have someone reliable to call. read more

While I think Mike is competent at fixing stoves, I'll probably never use him again. First of all, he's pricey and very insistent about getting paid, which is a bit off-putting and borderline rude. He charges $75 to inspect and then adds a high hourly fee on top of that. He quoted a price of $380 (on top of the $75) to fix the ignitors on my cooktop. The project, which totaled $555 was completed in about 40 minutes. Minus the cost of the parts (a couple of hundred), this was super expensive labor. I think he put in a lot of cushion in his estimate in case the job was more complicated but it turned out to be a much smaller job. So, a more conscientious contractor would have revised the bill. A really good electrician I used issued a revised bill when the job turned out to be much less complicated. Mike however, just defensively said that he was here for at least 1 hour (which he wasn't and certainly not working for more than 30-40 minutes) when I commented on how quickly the repair was completed. I made the comment because he had gone on and on about what a big job this was going to be and that it would take more than an hour and a half. Also, I had stepped out to do some shopping thinking it would take much longer and while I was gone, he was peskering my nanny for payment. Contractors should realize that customer loyalty is more important than a few bucks in the short term. For contractors that I like and trust, I use them over and over again for different project and also refer them to friends and real estate agents. I won't be referring or using Mike again. P.S. I read a review that confirms that I'm not the only where Mike has quoted a reasonable diagnostic fee "to be credited" (when the initial call is made) only to change the story later and say the fees would not be credited. I get that some service vendors apply a diagnostic charge to offset their time in case the customer goes somewhere else. I don't think it's ethical for KH Appliance to say they would credit this fee and then say they won't after you become a customer. read more

The heating element for our Kenmore electric dryer went out. I called this company based on the Yelp reviews and spoke to the owner Mike. He said he could send a technician the next day. He said the price to diagnose is $75 (even though I told him I already diagnosed the problem - I was okay with it since I'm aware sometimes customers can misdiagnose). Mike assured me not to worry since the $75 would be credited toward the estimate if we decided to move forward with the job...fair enough since I didn't have the time to do it myself (a somewhat DIY simple task if you have the time). The pressure to get it fixed so we could get going right away on washing clothes made me 'cave' so I agreed to have him send his technician. I was at work during the scheduled appointment, but I told my wife the price agreement of $75 diagnosis fee that would be credited if we hired on the spot. All good so far and all appeared to be on the same page. The technician showed up on time and immediately (within 2 minuets) confirmed my original diagnosis. His English was poor but my wife understood him enough for a very basic conversation. He provided an on the spot estimate of $240 ($45 for the part and $195 for his labor). Well, it made no sense to pay $75 for a 2-minute diagnosis so she agreed and confirmed with him (prior to starting) that the $75 diagnostic credit would be applied towards his estimate and he said it would. When he finished the relatively easy job 20-minutes later my wife was ready to pay him $165 ($240 estimate minus the $75 credit we were promised = $165). This is when the all of a sudden much better English came from the technician. He started being aggressive and firm about collecting the entire $240. My wife tried explaining what she (and I) believed from the owner about the $75 would be applied toward the estimate but he would no longer listen or be understanding, he just stood firm and aggressive with his price. He did say the part cost him $45 so he is not getting the entire $240. Ok so he's charging $195 then for 20-minutes of his time. Is this a joke? At that pace he is charging a whopping rate of nearly $600/hour! More than most lawyers and doctors charge! I understand there are other expenses such as gas but that is still a ridiculous labor rate. So after I get home and my wife explains all of this, I call the owner Mike. He immediately backs his technician stating he's got kids to feed and bills to pay....uh last I checked most of us are in the exact same boat and don't get away with $600/hour salaries! I tried to reason with Mike and request my $75 back as clearly there was a miscommunication with this alleged 'credit' but he would not budge and ended the phone call stating he has a customer he has to help, so I guess his previous customers are chopped liver since he already got away with price gouging them! The ONLY reason for the two star rating and not one star is because the technician did arrive on time and appears to have done the job right since our dryer is now working. read more

Because it's a microwave/oven combo and you have to take off all the trim (easy peasy) and then take out the entire microwave! I highly recommend him! read more

I called Mike to fix my dishwasher that was 11 years old. I figured it was not going to be something big so I called KH. Mike was great! He answered my phone call and/or returned call's quickly. He was out to my house that day. The parts came in when he said they would and they came out promptly after that. When they came out and put it back together and it worked.. but it leaked which they could not see that before because it had just stopped working completely. At that point Mike told me that it would really be better to get a new dishwasher by the time he would be completed it would be about $100 less than a new one and said don't worry about the parts or anything, just let me know what you plan on doing. This is my first online review for any service and I wanted to take the time to share my experience with potential customers and help them avoid the experience. Our fridge was leaking water from one corner and so we called Kh Appliance. The gentleman, I believe his name was Mike said the service charge will be $95 so we agreed. He came for the visit and it turned out the water connection from the back needed to be shut off, since we were not using the drinking water and that was what was leaking. Smart guy - took him 5 minutes to figure out and shut the valve in the back. I asked him to look at my electric stove whose burner had blown and he looked straight he and said that's additional $95. I asked him he has spent a total of 10 mins at the house and he's not even willing to look at the blown burner. He said nothing - looked straight at me and said again in a monotone voice $95. At that time I thanked him for his time, paid him and walked him out. Again - wish he was a little more reasonable and understanding and would consider taking $95 for 10 mins as a rip off. it's all about the money these days - so if you know you have a big job go for it - if not shop around for a better price. read more

Mike was very responsive. I tried a couple of repair places that I have used before and they either 1) never called back or 2) couldn't schedule an appointment for over a week. Mike answered his phone and then we had an appointment scheduled via email in minutes. And since it was urgent, he was able to work in me in same day. As promised, he called ahead and arrived within time frame provided. He was very helpful and noted where my repair should be covered by an longer warranty than the typical one year, a fact that the manufacturer apparently overlooked twice. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I hope this review helps save others a few $s and headaches(!), cause it's too late for me. I called Mike because my SubZero (out of warranty) was making a knocking noise when the motor started/stopped and because the freezer frosted. I'll give him this - he showed up on time and was courteous and professional. Turns out, I had a bottle of tequila in the freezer that was keeping the door from closing. He removed that and suggested that he replace the gasket on my door, as it was in pretty bad shape. He said the noise was probably ice on the motor. He suggested I defrost the unit. He charged me $120 for the visit. After defrosting my unit, he came back to install the gasket. I told him the noise was still there. He said he would fix that "without an extra charge" as the gasket replacement only took him about 5 minutes (and he charged me $240 total for this visit) . Before leaving, he mentioned something about the motor being old and suggested it might need to be replaced at some point - something only an authorized SubZero technician could do. He said it would make a loud vibrating noise when this happened. Only a few hours after Mike left, I noticed that my refrigerator was making a very loud noise every time the fan/motor ran. I called Mike in a panic - as this noise was constant and LOUD - much more annoying than the previous knocking noise that only happened occasionally. He told me he was already on his was home, and couldn't come back and that I needed to call an authorized SubZero repair shop. I emailed and texted him - insisting that he come back and take a look, given that I had a bigger problem than I did before - not to mention, he'd charged me $240. No Response. Today, I had a technician from Box Appliance (5 stars) come. He took one look, made a quick adjustment, and the noise was gone. He said someone had bent the fan and that was causing the noise. He charged me $98 for the visit (standard rate - please note less than what Mike charges). Learn from my mistake and just call Box Appliance... they even charge less money!! read more

Mixed review. Mike came out to my house to diagnose issues with my washing machine. The machine has trouble filling automatically (it fills only if you prime it with a bucket of water first), and also has a very violent spin cycle. Mike was very diligent, very analytical in his approach -- very thorough in his testing of the issues at hand. That was impressive. He was very honest in his assessment and looked for the possibility of root-cause scenarios for repair that could prove more economical. That being said, during a final test of an air-pressure tube (that affects the water-filling capability), he accidentally broke the male plastic attachment for the tube. This attachment fed into a pressure sensor of some sort. He tried to glue the plastic piece back into place, but this attempt did not work. As a result of breaking this piece, the washer is now completely non-functional. Where we once had a washer that could eventually complete a wash cycle (once we poured a bucket of water into it, and as loud as it was during the spin cycle...), we now have a really big doorstop. Instead of being faced with a decision of whether to repair or replace, with a somewhat functional washer that could be used in the meantime, we are forced use a laundry mat while waiting for a) parts to come in and then repair b) go out an buy a new machine, wait for delivery and installation. I don't like options being taken away from me, and Mike, although somewhat apologetic, did not offer any compensation for further breaking our machine. read more

When I first started looking for a repair man, it was very hard to find someone. They were all busy and gave false promises to call me back. When I called Mike, he said he was busy and he would call back in two hours. To my surprise he actually did. I told him what I needed and he set up an appointment. Called Mike, he consulted his schedule and got back to me within a few minutes, and I made an appointment for two days out. He said there would be a $105 service charge just for coming to take a look and had me confirm I was okay with that. Day of, he showed up promptly at the scheduled time. The diagnosis was that a part needed to be replaced; Mike said he'd contact me with a quote for parts and labor later that day, and if I approved, he'd order the part. He did not pressure me into committing to parts and labor from him. After I gave him the "OK" he kept me informed (the part that came was damaged, so he had to order a new one, but I never had to wait around for days and days, wondering if he'd forgotten about me). Mike was very prompt when he came again. After he was finished with the repair, he had me try the vent for myself to make sure I was satisfied, and told me to keep the old parts and papers for the duration of the new motor's warrantee. read more

OK..I rarely write reviews, unless moved to do so for either really poor service or really great service. I am happy to report that KH Appliance, and Mike in particular, are outstanding. Our really crappy and expensive Viking Refrigerator, which has required multiple repairs, went out AGAIN. Of course the smart move would be to buy a new one, but to replace these built-ins would cost bux deluxe, so instead of calling the 'authorized service' repairman for Viking in our area (hint, they are expensive and not very good, but I will not malign them by name), I called KH appliance based on reviews I read.... Mike called me back within 10 minutes of my leaving a message and we made an appointment for 2 days hence (unheard of with other repair folks). Mike arrived on time, and within 90 min had our freezer working perfect for a very reasonable price (1/3 of the other guys, just for the visit!). My wife (who dealt with him) said he was a perfect gentleman. We still have some work to do on our freezer but I am extraordinarily impressed with KH Appliance and will be using them again (and with Viking appliances in my house, I can pretty much guarantee it). I usually get bad experience when i call for a repair man to fix any appliances. So it was about 2 weeks ago that my in cabinet microwave's door won't open when i pressed the button. Only had that microwave for about 3 years. So i went to Yelp and found KH Appliances and called them. No one picked up the phone but i left a message. Mike returned my call within afew hours and set up a time to come over. He came on time and was very professional, unfortunately he does not have the broken part. He quoted me which was reasonable price and ordered the parts for me and emailed me when the part came in and came the following day and replaced the part. Fast, efficient and reasonably priced. For almost a year, my 2 year old GE top of the line built in fridge kept having puddles of water on the shelves. I was terrified that GE would tell me the fridge had major issues or needed to be replaced or fixed to the tune of thousands of dollars, so I continued living with the problem - until one day I saw the reviews for KH and figured I'd give them a try. Mike came out to the house and competently disassembled the interior of the fridge to find the source of the water to ensure this wasn't a significant problem. To my relief, he told me he didn't see a major issue and suggested that I defrost the fridge for 24 hours and call him if it still condensated. Mike is a very honest person. My GE washer makes noises when spinning and I sent him a video about it. He could simply say "I need to take a look at the washer" and make a quick $105 diagnosis fee; but he chose to tell me that the drum bearings were likely the problem, which would cost over $1000 to fix. I ended up buying a new one since it is cheaper than fixing it. Mike did not make any money this time but he definitely won all of my future business when it comes to appliances! read more

When I contacted Wolf range recommended service provider, they told me they couldn't service my range because it was too old (15 years). This seems crazy since those ranges are built like tanks but I guess it has something to do with the Sub-Zero merger. Yelp to the rescue! Found Mike at KH Appliance. I can't say I tested his skills much -- after showing up promptly, he rotated the burners a few degrees, popped up the splash guard revealing a VERY obviously disconnected supply line and plugged it back in. Done. Gone. Everything works. I suppose this is what you want in a service guy -- show up on time, fix the issue at hand regardless of how trivial, and don't make up a bunch of unnecessary additional work. Next time I'll at least least pop the splash guard myself...but I'll certainly use him in the future if I ever have a legitimate appliance repair issue! read more
