This was our first time here and the food was really good. We had the butter chicken, prawn moilee, garlic naan and the cauliflower Koliwada. Service was generally good; however, lots of people working in the dining area and it seemed like almost too many without enough to do. We were going to make a reservation, but there's a $30 cancellation fee per person if you cancel 48 hours ahead of time. That seemed a bit much for a new restaurant at City Center. We decided just to walk in and there were plenty of open tables. Seems that this should be adjusted because it's probably preventing people from going and trying out this new restaurant. No need for a cancellation fee. Besides that, and some service tweaks, I recommend this new spot. read more

Restaurant was packed. What amazing and delicious food!! and excellent service. We had a nice table for a large group of six. Half of the group was vegetarian and half was non-veg. We ordered malai chicken for non-veg and jack fruit cutlets, spinach chaat, dahi puri and pani puri for veg appetizers. We ordered amazing corn kadhi and kofta for vegetarian dinner and butter chicken for non-veg dinner. We ordered chili and cheese naan and garlic naan. Tres leches rasmali for dessert. I thoroughly enjoyed every single dish. Would go back anytime. It's 45 minutes from where we were but worth the drive and I would def go back there to enjoy such unique and tasty food. Well I was very disappointed. I had expectations based on the representation that the chef (s) had a Michelin star at their Chicago restaurant. I doubt either chef is here and if they have anything to do with this restaurant I'd suggest they discontinue the affiliation. First, the atmosphere is hardly Michelin star. The ceilings are high and it's impossible to carry on a conversation due to the noise. This was a Saturday lunch where approximately 4 tables were occupied - so it wasn't full. Next, the service was lacking. Our waiter appeared initially then kept disappearing. He was preoccupied with helping a table of women take pics for what I guess is a social media account. The staff generally seemed lost. There were a few other helpers who tried to clear plates and deliver food but I had a clear view of where the lone chef/cook was dropping plates one by one and the staff would huddle around each dish and stare at a tablet trying to figure out which table it was for. This resulted in cold food. Then, most important, is the food itself. We were a table of 2 and decided to try the fixed price menu. We are vegetarian so this meant we could sample almost all the veg dishes. We started with a mocktail and cocktail. Neither one was remarkable and the cocktail per my hubby was weak and visibly small. Then our first course was the curd rice arancini. They forgot one of our plates but I did not really care. While the attempt to mesh a South Indian staple with Italian was interesting the execution was lacking. The curd rice was tasteless, lacking salt and on the dry side. They also try to make what is essentially three courses look like five. I feel like everyone knows bread/rice is not a separate course in Indian cuisine? Same with "accompaniments" like raita. So our next three courses arrived and included the kofta, tandoori cauliflower, two naan, daal and khadi. Probably the best dish was the kofta but honestly it was average and you could get the same or better at any family style Indian restaurant in the Bay. Nothing unique, nothing stood out. And I'm going to echo the majority of reviews here- the portions were pitiful. I don't need large portions, but I would be embarrassed to serve a chutney size dish of dal for what they are charging?The teaspoon they gave for serving couldn't even fit in the tiny dish. Dessert was similar. Two pieces of cake that were fine but not a dessert one would expect from a fine dining restaurant- they reminded me of cakes from a decent Indian bakery. As others have said the price for lunch for two was not a good value. I have no intention of returning. read more

This restaurant replaced Curry Up Now at this location. I tried it a couple of nights ago for dinner. The ambience and service were good, but I found the food rather bland. My tandoori roti was also half burned. We only tried four vegetarian dishes, so my review is somewhat limited. The bar seemed to have a good selection, so I might try some drinks and meat dishes next time. They've only been open for a couple of months, so they're probably still working out a few things. read more

I read the other reviews and the low stars. I really have no idea what they are talking about. The food was pretty awesome actually. I ordered the champaran mutton, tandoori roti, parsi keema and some pani puri. All of the dishes were fantastic. Reservation was pretty easy using OpenTable. Staff was attentive and checked frequently. I would have given the restaurant 5 stars if the cocktails were less sweet. read more

My husband and me came here tonite for dinner. There were only 4-5 tables with guests. The hostess in the entrance who was going to seat us, looked at us, ignored us and picked up the ringing phone. She's on the phone for 10 minutes while we are waiting at the door. We asked the waitress if anyone was going to seat us? She said the girl on the phone has to seat us and she's busy. We can sit in the bar if we like until she gets away from the phone. She was rude and also said they were very busy tonite. Hardly 8-10 people in the entire restaurant!! Ate here last night for their opening! Food was amazing and ambience was beautiful. San Ramon really needed a nice and upscale Indian restaurant and we finally got it. Perfect location for a date night or family dinner. Butter chicken was awesome, but the jackfruit cutlet was my favorite dish along with the spinach chaat. Don't forget to order those two! Handi Mutton was spicier than required and pieces that would qualify to be labeled as keema if they were any smaller. Anything vegetarian was smothered with cream. We had heard about a new Indian restaurant and were looking forward to try it. While ordering food everything seemed fine, appetizers came on time. But main course was an absolute disaster, our bread (naan) came without the main course (curry), we waited 20 minutes. Which is ridiculous, the bread is meant to be served with the main course. We requested politely to the server several times to check on the curry and, they said they were brining it but that was not the case. After waiting 20 minutes, we spoke to the manager and she was rude and courteous not at all trying to amend the situation. After that the curry came, but the naan was cold. Then we waited another 20 minutes for the curry to be served hot with the naan. Absolutely ridiculous. Food was good, but with complete honesty the service needs a lot of work. read more

I've been to Khaki twice now and can officially say I am obsessed! The jackfruit cutlet is my favorite dish and as a vegetarian, it's such a win when my meal feels just as exciting as everyone else's. I never felt like an afterthought here. For appetizers I LOVED the Golgappas, Palak chaat, and of course the highlight of my night the Jackfruit cutlets (definitely a must try for non-vegetarians too)! I'm an appetizer person so by the time the mains hit the table I was already stuffed... but still managed to lick every last bite of the Makhani Daal and Channa! To top it all off, the Chilli Naan was the perfect addition to dip into the amazing dishes. I would definitely be back again and can easily and confidently say Khaki is the best Indian food in the East Bay! read more

I was sad to see Curry Up Now leave but was looking forward to the new Indian place opening up. Upon looking at their website, I'm really disappointed that they don't do lunch like the previous business did. The prices on the website are kind of high for some items but I can look past that. Except for the drinks. Charging $20 for an alcoholic drink is way too much considering there usually is less than 2 ounces of alcohol in each drink. That is the price of a meal at most places. That is such an overcharge but what really was extremely annoying was that they automatically put a 20% tip on the bill for parties as low as FOUR people....20%!! I've usually only seen the mandatory gratuity for parties of six or more so to do that on a table of four people is just greedy. On top of that, they have an automatic 5% surcharge on your bill to help pay for their employees' benefits, etc. This is ridiculous since their prices are already high and they are only open for a few hours a day. The business is just pretentious and makes me not want to support it. read more
