Let's start with the staff and lack of personality. We ordered and I asked for a Ginger beer and got ginger ale, there is a difference. The mango lassi you see below is how it was originally served to us, half full that costs $9. Really! The food was tasty but it took thirty minutes not during peak hours to get our main dish. Why three stars? It's simple. You'll either love Khaki or think it's not good depending on your experiences with other Indian restaurants in affluent areas. I don't care about prices as much, if portions are big. I like big chicken tikka masala, big garlic naan, etc. Khaki's butter chicken is like half the size of what other North Indian restaurants serve. The garlic naan is also like half the size. If you order a sprite, it comes out in a KID size Mexican sprite bottle. They don't have regular sized Mexican cokes or sprites like other places do. If you want water, they'll fill up your cup with sink water. I literally saw them fill up the water with sink water, no filter. Now regarding the garlic naan, it's good, the butter chicken is good. However, it's not a "wow". The competition in other affluent areas have bigger portions, same taste if not better, and won't bring you kid sized sodas. Try them out, and see if it's worth it for you. read more

The place was opened maybe a week before the staff were ready. On second day, they changed their opening hours from 4 to 5 PM. A staff meeting was happening the whole time. We didn't have a reservation, and though they claimed it was fully reserved, luckily they accommodated us. But the restaurant was pretty empty and didn't fill up even when we left. Not sure if they were trying to avoid being full as their staff wasn't ready yet. We saw the staff kept making mistakes and taking orders to wrong tables. Some orders had less or missing ingredients (like Sweet Potato and Patta Chaat didn't have any sev and very few pomegranate pieces, jackfruit cutlet had no taste of jackfruit). They probably needed one more week before they should've opened. Though the food was nice and staff was friendly, nothing stood out as worth the high price. It was good to try once, but I'm glad I didn't come for a special occasion. I don't feel there was anyhing here that would make me want to return. read more

I ordered takeout here and it was a very disappointing experience. * Chicken Butter Masala - just average, nothing special. Honestly tasted like the same generic version you can get at any other Indian spot. * Champaran Mutton - absolutely terrible. It tasted stale, as if it had been cooked weeks or even months ago. The flavor was so bad it made us feel sick. I specifically told the staff not to give me anything stale, and they still did. And for $30, this was a complete rip-off. When you pay premium prices, you expect fresh food and at least some care in preparation. Instead, what I got was unacceptable. Never again. read more

Totally disappointing experience. Food was heavy with cream and sugar, lacked authentic flavors, and on top of that it took almost one hour to get two dishes only while the restaurant was not even half occupied. I would not recommend this place at all. It reminded me of old time Indian buffet places where they used to service super heavy Indian food so people will not each much.. Only saving grace was the naan and masala chai which eventually became cold drink by the time food came to the table. read more

We had reservations at Khaki and arrived a bit earlier than our time. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate us, but there was noticeable confusion between the two people at the front desk. I got the classic "Gen Z stare," with no real communication until the hostess finally grabbed menus and asked us to follow her. Once seated, things didn't improve. Our server seemed like it was his first time seeing the menu. When we asked about popular dishes or recommendations, he had no insight. Since our kids were hungry (we had just come from a Garba event), we asked him to bring out food as soon as it was ready. The chicken kebabs arrived first--just five small pieces--and then nothing else came for another 30-40 minutes, despite us flagging him down. Eventually, we told him enough is enough, we'd like to checkout and leave so he brought over the manager. Unfortunately, the manager didn't connect with the server at all. Instead of clarifying with him, she started asking us what we had ordered, which was frustrating after such a long wait. My husband emphasized the kids needed food quickly. Her response? "I'm a mother too, and it's Saturday night." I couldn't help but think--yes, thank you for emphasizing on being a mother but you're not a good manager at all, isn't Saturday night exactly when a restaurant should be running at its sharpest for both customer experience and revenue? She admitted the server likely mixed up the sequence of orders, which wasn't surprising given his struggles with English. When the rest of the food finally came, it was overly spicy despite us clearly asking for mild. Water refills were rare, directions were often missed, and by the time we complained, two other tables nearby were also voicing concerns. The manager repeatedly tried to smooth things over by offering free dessert, but by then we were completely over the experience. Bottom line: I won't be coming back. The execution and service were such a mess that I cannot imagine bringing clients here (I work nearby). I'd love to have a reliable spot close to the office, but I won't risk embarrassing myself--or starving my kids--for a second round. read more

We had dinner at Khaki last Saturday. Had a reservation and were seated promptly. The ambiance is beautiful, cozy and chic! The chairs brought nostalgia from when I was growing up in India, with a woven looks and very comfortable. The tandoori fish and edamame avacado bhel were very delicious, they ran out the macha drink I ordered so that was a bummer, there were other mocktail choices but my heart was set on this, next time! The service was prompt and pleasant. Then came the dinner, Dak Bungalow chicken, koftas (veg), dal makhani and garlic naan. We were a table of 4 , the chicken served was 2 medium sized drumsticks, 2 small pieces of potatoes and an egg, with gravy this was the most underwhelming dish in taste and for the steep price of over $25 from what I recall. Koftas were delicious but 2 pieces again with lots of gravy, this was also pricey for the portion . Dal Makhni was finger licking good, very very tasty and the naan was great but didn't really feel like garlic naan, very subtle in flavor. We skipped dessert then came the check. I have never seen a table of 4 charged a mandatory 20% gratuity for this type of dining. I would have left a 20% tip anyways but it left a sour taste at this brazen expectation for serving a table of 4. It doesn't end there, there was also some type of 5% surcharge in addition. I don't mind the price but for the portion size and extras on the check, it overtook the experience of the primary flavorful food we had. Overall, we had a good time, will go back again. They do need to reconsider the mandatory 20% gratuity for a table of 4 and increase portion size a bit, its nice fine dining but not Michelin star level to imitate them just yet. read more

We made reservations for 6 o'clock. Our movie ran late and we didn't arrive until 6:20. The hostess told us they canceled our reservations after 15 minutes and there was no other table available. They were rude in unaccommodating. And the restaurant was almost completely empty. I've never had that kind of experience at a restaurant when you make reservations. read more
