Vero Chicago Pizza - Tavern style pizza (thin crust)

3 star pizza, 5 star calzone…read more My daughter and I were craving deep dish and decided to give Vero's a try. It was our first time visiting. The crust was nice and the bacon was delicious, thick cut, and crispy. That said, the pizza looked a bit thrown together and the sausage tasted underdone, which was surprising considering it took nearly 45 minutes to prep and cook. My son ordered a calzone and was audibly demolishing it. It was very large and he said it tasted great, so that was a plus. Our intention was to dine in and enjoy our meal there, but the very limited seating and the fact that the table is positioned right in front of the register made it feel awkward. We ultimately took our food home to eat. I would not consider this a dine in restaurant. It feels more like a pickup and takeout focused spot. It is definitely on the expensive side. It was about $60 for one pizza and one calzone. Both items were priced as cheese only, so each topping was charged separately. $3 for sausage, $3 for bacon, $2.50 for spinach, etc. The total came out to $37 for the pizza and $19 for the calzone before tax and tip. We might give it another try, but it is unlikely.

They have a couple small dining tables in the lobby area, which are convenient to sit out while you wait or if you want to dine there while your pizza is still hot. The staff is great. They are always friendly and helpful. They know me well enough to give me ranch dressing, which is fabulous. I love their onion rings with the honey mustard, dipping sauce. I know it sounds odd, but the combination together, is just great. I would've never thought to put those two items together. I have never been disappointed by their pizza. It is always top-notch. Vero's does not skimp on ingredients. MY PIZZA always weighs about 10 pounds or more. I have always picked up my pizza and it has always been hot and fresh when I get home which is another plus. They do have some summer specials left until the end of the month. Check it out on their website.

This gem of a restaurant is absolutely fantastic…read more It's a little difficult to get to if you don't know the directions, but it's in an old-timey building that was once a consignment store. It's cool though because it's rustic while providing outdoor seating both upstairs and downstairs. This place kind of looks like a barn but in a very vintage, very cool way. The space within is open and comfortable; tables are reasonably distanced from each other, there's a stage with a drum set and mic for live music, and country themed string lights wrapped around the stair rails and upstairs banisters. Country music plays in the background and on the TVs above the stage while sports play on other screens across the restaurant. Shelby was very nice. When we initially arrived, she was the only server, so her manager stepped in to take our orders and help. I love this because more managers should be hands on and help their employees. I can't speak for the drink menu while I'm sober, but the food is as roadhouse as you get, but in a great way that isn't generic. You can taste the smoky flavor in the sliders from the sampler and even in the baseball sirloin. The meat is very tender. Even the chicken in the sampler was moist and tender. The cowboy bites were addictive with cheesy goodness and mushroom juice exploding on your tongue. Not a fan of the asparagus, which I felt was bland and overcooked, but asparagus is very difficult to get right, even among experienced cooks. The potatoes had too much garlic, but my husband liked them, so I guess that comes down to subjectivity. He loved the ribs. Excellent service and food for a moderate price. The steaks can get up there in price, so be prepared to dig a little deep, but everything is appropriately priced for what you're receiving. On our way out, a server greeted a pair of customers with genuine excitement: "Oh you're back!" And they told her they returned because of her. I think more people should understand that customers get attached to servers. So good service matters for more than a review or requirement. It makes people feel good, and it makes the servers feel good too when the service is genuine. I am inclined to agree. Everything about this restaurant was excellent.

The meat in both the tacos and the burrito was very good--flavorful and definitely the strong point of the meal. I also really liked the cheese they added, and the salsas were delicious, adding great flavor to the meal. The burrito itself was good, but the rice and beans on both plates were lacking. The beans and rice were cold, the rice had an overbearing garlic flavor, and the beans tasted more like canned beans. Some of the tortillas were undercooked, which took away from the tacos. While the taco meat itself was good, the rice, beans, and tortillas didn't fully support the dish, and everything should really complement each other. The chips were also overpriced for the amount you get, which was disappointing. That said, the service was amazing. Karla was on her toes the entire time she was amazing, really knew her stuff, and seemed like she has a strong work ethic. The restaurant also felt clean and well organized, which I appreciated. Overall, having great-quality meat is important, but when the rice, beans, and tortillas are off, it affects the entire meal. It didn't completely ruin the experience, but it also wasn't a "wow, I can't wait to order this again" kind of meal.

The food I ordered came out in decent time and each one was flavorful. My personal preference would be to swap the sauces that were served with the calamari and the garlic knots. The calamari sauce was a bit chunky for me( it's their marinara sauce) and the garlic knot sauce was a bit thinner (their tomato sauce) both sauces had great flavor but I felt the garlic knots would be better with the marinara and the calamari with the tomato sauce. Other than that both of them very delicious. I would like to see both of these items served a little hotter, they were both warm when I received them but that is my preference as the temperature could be suitable for others. On to the ziti! This was great!! It came out piping hot and had a great cheese pull. The flavor was very good, the portion size was HUGE!!! It would definitely be enough for two people. The young lady that waited on me was very kind and checked in on me frequently. She came around and filled my drink (ice sweet tea) when she seen it was low. I think next time I will try some of their drink Options from the bar as well as the pizza.
