Food: small menu which I do not have any problem with. When I go to Thai/lao restaurants, I always order papaya salad - which will tell me everything and what kind of food I can expect. Very simple taste- that doesn't mean bland. It captures sweet, savory and tang. Ordered green curry. Good flavor but almost bland - it can improve on the ingredients. Khao soi noodles again, taste good but missing something - All the dishes tried seems it was missing fish sauce flavor and more, which all dishes didn't seem to reflect traditional deep flavors. The chicken wings were pretty good. Wish the skin was crunchy and had a better batter. The hat yai dry rub was good, salty and sour but kind of reminded me more like tajin. My son really loved it. Service: yin and yang. One older lady who served our table was nice and attentive. The other supporting female staff there was unfriendly, almost seemed mad at the world. Slow service. Price: I don't know why NC charges so much for Asian food in general. I can't say it's outrageously expensive or reasonable price for the genre of this food. All in all, not a bad tasting food. Definitely coming back. Khao Sen has been added to my local Top 10. Very open, bright, and inviting enviornment. They offer table and booth options with available seating at the bar as well. The "front of the house" are, from what i can tell, an all woman brigade, ranging in ages, and they are all so awsome!! They all bring their own spirited personality. Khao Sen can get busy at times, and these amazing women "get to it". I've seen impatient customers get annoyed after 5 mins of waiting and it's super unfair to this amazing staff. The menu has selective, authentic flavors of Thailand, and every option will have you coming for more. For appetizers we've snacked on the vegetable gyoza (GYO PAK), crispy crab sticks served with sweet chilli sauce (so delicious), Tofu Tod, which i have to emphasize this part. In over 10 years, i've not once taken a second bite when it comes to tofu. Khao Sen has their tofu lighlty battered and fried so deliciously, with their sweet chilli and ground peanuts sauce to dip in. I not only had a second bite but i ate the entire appetizer. Even my vegan friend raves about the Tofu Tod. Ok ok, moving on......ohhh it really is good though, haha. Ok, next we've lip smacked on their steamed dumplings, stuffed with ground pork, shrimp, water chestnuts, onion, scallion, and cilantro, served with a sweet soy sauce (KANOM JEEP).....yes!!!!!. Lets talk chicken wings. Seriously, dang!! Their spicy Thai-style fried chicken wings served with sweet chili sauce (KAI ZAAP) are noise makers. Take a bite and tell me you didn't go "mmMMmm". Making our way on down the list is the tender baby back ribs coated with their southern Thai-style curry paste (SI - KRONG PAD PRIK). These are topped with saffron and very much another delicious option. That's it, we left some still on the menu for next time. Entrees!! I'm between favorites at the moment. The spicy tom yum soup with egg noodles, pork and shrimp dumplings, shrimp, ground pork, fish roll, fish ball, bok choy, cilantro, scallion, crispy wontons, ground peanuts, and fried garlic oil (BA MII TOM YUM) and the northern Thai-style curry, crispy skin chicken thigh, egg noodles, crispy egg noodle, cilantro, scallion, picked radish, shallots, and lime (KHAO SOI). Both are different in flavors but equally devine in their own respects. Now direct your attention to Khao Sen's roasted duck and gravy over rice with steamed Chinese broccoli, pickled ginger, cilantro, and scallion; served with a side of sweet dipping sauce (KHAO NA PED), another eye rolling meal!! You have the option of choosing a rice, white, fried, or berry (purple rice)...... i suggest the berry. The beef broth, thin rice noodles, sliced NY strip, stewed beef, beef tendon, beef ball, cilantro, scallion, and Chinese broccoli will have you talking while eating. My cousin couldn't stop raving about the flavor while eating. All this food talk has me thirsty. I can't get enough of the Lychee Tea which is green tea, lychee, and lychee jelly. My drink magically disappears the first 2 times, everytime, the waitress sets the glass down.....poof just disappears. So, i'm forced to order another . Their peach bellini and lychee saki mojito are aMAAAAZziiing. Delightful and refreshing. Seems to really be a common theme here. Everything is flavorful and refreshingly delicious from the food to the drinks. Khao Sen offers beer, wine, ciders, sake. For non-alchoholic drinks there's fountain drinks, coffe and teas, fruit teas, milk teas, fizzy drinks, milks, annnnnd water. Parking can be limited during rush hours. The restaurant is nice and clean inside with a great menu with lots of variety and also so many fun drinks/teas to choose from. So far I have tried the shrimp and garlic, beef noodles, khao soi, and crab omelette. The khao soi and crab omelette were definitely my favorite dishes that I've tried and dishes I would order again and again. The khao soi is spectacular and also their most popular dish. We absolutely love Khao Sen!! The servers are kind and helpful, the ambiance is tastefully peaceful with soft music and minimal but beautiful decor and lighting. I have tried 4 main dishes here- the Khao Soi which is a delicious creamy, savory, spicy noodle soup with chicken, the Sen Lek Pak Ruam, a delicious savory vegetable noodle soup, the Khao Khai Jiao Pu which is a delicious slightly sweet crab omelette draped over rice, and the Khao Kai Yang which is a pretty good grilled chicken and rice dish with a spicy twangy sauce on the side. The Thai tea is delicious, and the boba and other teas and milks are very good, including the chocolate pink milk! The Moonlit Matcha (this is a special, not on the regular menu) was very tasty, too! We have also tried the Thai Tea Custard which is quite good, and the Thai Donuts which are very tasty and different! They're almost like a thick funnel cake texture and flavor mixed with a little bit of a hush puppy corn flavor. The plating of the food was nice. I enjoyed the atmosphere and food. I have been looking at their menu for weeks. I had planned to meet my friend there and we had to both reschedule. But we finally made it. I got the crab omelet over rice. It came with a sauce. More sweet to me. Looked like there was white pepper powder sprinkled on top. I loved it! It was a very simple dish but just so amazing. My friend got the pork tom yum noodle soup. It looked amazing. With pork, dumplings, shrimp, fish balls, and bok choy. I ended up ordering this a work a few weeks after my first visit. I also ordered the crab eggrolls. Originally I thought it was just going to be a crab stick wrapped up. But it was more like the filling that's in crab wontons. But it was a nice surprise. I did feel like it was a bit pricey. And the traffic getting to and from through Fuquay was not fun. read more

This is a nice clean busy restaurant with a very friendly and responsive staff. We saw the reviews and figured we'd give it a spin. It is clear that the Khao Soi is a big draw and we normally would have tried it first but instead we tried other things that appeared appealing from the menu albeit a bit on the pricey side Frankly, they didn't wow us during this visit. We will try them again because the Khao Soi looked very appealing and will update the review when we do. This place is incredible. The people giving less than five stars haven't a clue what they're talking about. Seriously, just ignore their reviews because this place was fantastic and I happen to be extremely picky and I can find something wrong about everything typically but not here. It's neat and clean and nicely appointed, the staff was super friendly and just very happy that we were there and the food! I'm not sure how you could pack any more flavor into anything! And if you're a fan of chicken wings, give there's a try because they happen to be the most perfect wings I've ever eaten. And trust me, I've eaten so many wings lately. Khao sen is in a new development on the edge of town. When we first pulled in I wasn't sure that it would be very good, however I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the menu, it had a lot of great Thai dishes that you don't see at other restaurants, definitely went way beyond the basic pad Thai type staples you see at most places. The food itself was excellent, it was flavorful and well prepared and we liked every dish we ordered. The service was excellent, fast and friendly. Our server made great recommendations and was very professional throughout. The building is new so it kind of has a hip vibe, I liked the interior and it's really clean. My wife got the Sausage fried rice which she loved. I got the Khao Soi. I was in Chaing Mai Heaven. It was delicious. We ended with Sticky Rice with Mango. Just perfect. Came by on a Friday night and was seated pretty quickly. The interior is cute and minimal, but I would have loved to see some Thai traditional decor or art. It needed just a little bit more color. Our server was great and gave suggestions based on our spice tolerance. FYI: Thai dishes at a medium level are very minor spice, but if you choose hot or Thai hot, they will have you sweating! We ordered our drinks (lychee lemonade and a beer) and I was obsessed with the lychee! With really lychee bits inside, I had to make sure I finished all of it before leaving. This was my first time visiting on a Sunday during lunch. As it is in a newly developed location, the area looks empty with plenty of parking with tons of room for more businesses. Khao Sen looks to be one of its earliest businesses to be up and running. The place was super clean and had a nice minimalist aesthetic. I got a Thai coffee and it was delicious. Everyone else's drinks looked super pretty (fruit teas were ombre colored!). The food was amazing as well, and comes with a big portion size. I got the crab omelette rice and tried my best to eat up to 3/4 of it before I was so full that I cannot eat anymore! Service was also great. Becca was the name of my server, and she was attentive and made sure our table had space from our appetizer to our main courses and checked on extra sauces and anything else we needed. Newly nestled among the Retreat Luxury Apartments is probably the one reason I'd use the word "luxury" in this context. They are nice enough units, but this restaurant provides a meaningful upgrade. Not only is it cool for residents (of whom I'm close with 2) to have dining options on-site, but Khao Sen is a total winner. Clean and vibrant, with windows all around, they offer a takeout window, a small bar area, two separate restroom stations, and drinks for liver damage as well as liver cleansing. It appeals to everyone. Everyone who loves Thai food, that is. With a full menu, Khao Sen offers a rockstar Kai Zaap spicy Thai chicken wings appetizer, going from mild to hot. I'm practicing for the day I get invited to appear on "Hot Ones," so I chose their spiciest option. It was good, but even better with the chili dipping sauce. Because of a Yelper's online photo, I ordered the Crab Pancake, and it was delectable. However, they are rather stingy on the "crab" part. With a few pieces strewn about on top, the filling is all rice. If you don't mind picking quality over quantity, the pancake dish will leave you satisfied. Gonna say it again though - stingy with the crab! Dessert was the Thai donuts, and man were they delicious. Described as "light and fluffy with a sweet glaze," they tasted as good as the photo looks. It was later in the day, so I didn't choose a coffee, but these delights would go awesomely with a Brown Sugar Milk Tea or maybe a Taro Milk. Instead, I drank the Citrus Yu, which was beautiful to look at, but leaned on the average side. New place, so parking was nothing, but I can see these guys catching fame quickly once all the residents get wind of their opening. This place is not what I was expecting for a Thai restaurant. My girlfriend's kids are Thai-born so I've eaten a lot of Thai food at a lot of places. The kids weren't especially thrilled with their food when they came another time without me. This restaurants is missing a lot of the traditional dishes such as pad Thai...I was completely disappointed this wasn't on the menu...as well as Thai curry dishes. I started with the crispy crab sticks which was pretty much crab rangoon in an egg roll instead of its normal shape. It was actually pretty good and probably my favorite things so far. The second thing I had was the salmon yum. It had no flavor at all and for raw fish, the color was very very muted which usually indicates low quality--I eat a ton of sushi weekly and debated on actually eating this. It wasn't cold either so that made me a bit concerned. For my main course I did the Khao Na Ped which is a duck based meal. The food was cooked perfectly but versus the flavorful Thai dishes that I'm used to I just found that most of the items lacked a lot of flavor and tasted very plain and mild. Everything looked pretty and was served quickly. As for the service, it could be a lot better especially at the price point. After I made my order I didn't see my server again until it was time for the check. This was a bit disappointing since I needed a refill and I had to flag down the hostess to get it for me. She did reappear when it was time to bring the check and claim a tip but where was she when I needed her? Never saw her out and they weren't busy, I was probably 1 of 5 tables in the entire restaurant. I will try it again but I don't see it being my go to for Thai food. Thai Thai and Osha in Holly Springs both have excellent Thai dishes and at a lot better value. I might have just talked myself into Thai takeout right now from one of them as I'm writing this review. read more

Went here last night on a Friday evening around 6:45. They were busy but we were were seated right away. I'm not a big boba/tea/Thai coffee guy but my wife and daughter were thrilled with their drink menu. We started with 2 apps of the crispy veggy spring rolls and the crab sticks. Both came with a Thai chili sauce to dip and both were very good. The crab sticks were crab Rangoon like. My daughter had the salmon which she really enjoyed and it came with rice. I had the curry shrimp meal at a medium and it was really good and not overly hot. The highlight was my wife's fried soft shell crab. It was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The restaurant is cozy with plenty of natural light. The menu is nice and not your standard boring pad Thai or drunken noodle dishes. The service was great and pricing was very reasonable. I thought the food was better than Osha in Holly Springs, which I also like. The only negative was the noise level but I'm fairly certain that was due to a large table nearby with probably 5 kids under 10 who were running around a bit and yelling. This new cute Thai spot is now open in Fuquay-Varina. We dined in for dinner and I started off with a Singha beer and my husband ordered a honey lavendar milk tea tea then we split the krab sticks and vegetable gyoza. For our entrees it was the Khao Pad Sun Chiang (fried rice with sweet sausage) and a Thai tea for my husband and the Khao Goong Katiem (white rice with sautéed shrimp) and lychee sake for me.
