I'm struggling on how to write this review. There are some good things I could say about Kid Cashew, but there was one flagrant issue of incredible negligence that renders everything else irrelevant and will prevent me from ever returning. On vacation in Charleston my family and I were looking for a spot for dinner with outdoor seating. Kid Cashew was literally down the street from our hotel in Mount Pleasant, and we had passed it heading elsewhere a previous evening, so we knew right where it was. The online menu also had a good selection of "normal" items the kids would recognize as well as healthier fare that appealed to my wife. In checking all those boxes the restaurant became a good option for us. We were seated quickly, and to my surprise a kid's menu was brought out along with the regular one. A special kid's menu wasn't advertised anywhere I could find on the website, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the option was available. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger from it, while the rest of us went with a larger beef burger, lamb burger, and salmon. We each finished or nearly-finished our plates. We paid and got up to leave. It was then I happened to notice the small remaining portion of my daughter's burger she hadn't eaten. The outside of the meat was unremarkable. Brown, just as you would expect to see. Underneath that thin crust of doneness however, the inside was pink. Not just pink, but red. And it wasn't just the middle that was red, there was distinct color all the way through. It was, at best, "rare," but even that seems generous. I should not have to explain the dangers of serving something so severely underdone to a child. This was not a case of an adult ordering an item and the server mishearing the requested doneness. This was a burger ordered by a child from the kid's menu. I'm angry at Kid Cashew for serving a child's hamburger this way. I'm angry at myself for not noticing until she had eaten more than three-quarters of it. That final part is what has me most upset. Had I noticed it earlier it could have been sent back. At that point, however, there was nothing that could be done. She had eaten almost all of it. Thankfully, she did not become ill or have any adverse effects. For me nothing else about the meal matters. I'm not going to bother talking about what we liked or didn't about the other entrees. Serving a child borderline raw meat is negligent and inexcusable. I will not be returning to Kid Cashew. read more

We went here for brunch this past weekend. Due to COVID, we haven't sat inside when dining in. However, we peeked our heads in and saw that no one had arrived yet. We were the first customers, so we got the whole indoor dining space to ourselves. The indoor dining space is clean and airy. The inside of the restaurant is eclectic and brings a bit of outdoor elements into the space. I decided to go a different route and decided on a wood-fired grilled portobello mushroom. I was very disappointed with my burger. I was very unimpressed with the presentation of the burger. It was flavorless and the portobello did not taste wood-fired at all. I didn't finish the burger and only finished the chips. I'm hoping that my first time here was a fluke. Because we were the first ones there, the chef/cook wasn't ready or hadn't gotten into the groove or rhythm of cooking that morning. Perhaps, we'll return to give this place another try. Hopefully, we have a better experience the second time around. read more

I had high expectations for Kid Cashew. Having a few members of my family being vegan made this a great option but after our second visit I still wasn't impressed. Although the staff was attentive the tables were dirty both times we visited and sat down. We had to ask for silverware. Service took long. Food was ok. Normally I don't post negative reviews but I was so disappointed. Went at 12:45 on Sunday and we were greeted by a very frazzled hostess (but she was really nice) and informed us that they were severely understaffed and it would be better if we sat at the bar. Okay, cool, no problem. We sit down and the bartender asks us if we'd like menus and when we said yes, she proceeded to inform us that it would "be a while" before she could get us drinks. We sat there for about 15 minutes and the couple across the bar from us that was there before us hadn't gotten their drinks yet, so we decided to leave. I guess because kids eat free on the weekend is why it was super swamped. I didn't mind that they were busy or understaffed. I get it. I just think the situation could've been handled better. So my wife and I really thought this was a strictly vegan restaurant... how wrong were we? While there are plenty of Vegan options here the menu is full of delicious & healthy dishes for all. We were greeted warmly and waited at the bar for our table. Loved the decor and warm feel of this place. They have a nice menu of crafted cocktails. We were seated outside and the atmosphere was great. We tried the octopus appetizer which was too charred for my preference but had god flavor. We shared the steak and sausage plate along with the spinach dip. It was all delicious. The steak was so fresh and cooked to a perfect mid rare. The sausage was flavorful and just enough spice but not overwhelming. Could literally drink the spin dip lol. Our server was so nice and also informed us of their great happy hour deals. We ordered dinner from Uber Eats. The food was good-we had 1/2 chicken, portobello sandwich, Brussels sprouts and beets. Overall the food was good, but the Brussels sprouts were too salty and the portobello sandwich was lacking in flavor. We came as a party of ten. We made reservations and encountered small communication mishaps. We ordered mimosas and food for adults and kids. The food was great! We all tried each entree amongst the group and were very pleased. Service was slow. At the end of our dining experience we were informed they were really short staffed so that explained the service. I ordered a chicken avocado sandwich and it came with housemade chips. It was great! Lots of flavor and I made sure to eat everything on my plate. There are a lot of restaurants around here and with the unique menu and awesome boho decor, we decided to try it. What we had was great. Brussel sprouts, mac n cheese, chicken, hummus, meatballs, and two different burgers...sounds like a crazy mix and it kind of is!! I mean this in a good way, but honestly this is a great place to go if no one knows what in the world they want to eat. No kidding, you can get anything from an octopus quinoa appetizer to a gyro to an entire rotisserie chicken. Not a lot of draft beers on tap which was a little disappointing (I'm a beer person) and the service was a little disorganized but the wine and liquor drink list was extensive. This restaurant is great for all different diets - I took my sister here who is a strict vegan and the staff was extremely accommodating to all of her allergies. Moreover, the lunch special is a great deal - highly recommend if you are between 2 different items on the menu! We were seated right away. Started with a delicious asparagus appetizer. Remarkable! Our entries came out, on time and served piping hot. My lamb was very tender and very flavorful. Their Gyro was stuffed full of tender lamb with a good amount of tsaziki sauce. My wife says she would definitely order this again. Our waiter, JP(?) was perfect. This place kind of ruined our night. We have made a reservation with a huge group. We have arrived on time and placed our food in the order we were told to do. We waited and the waiter refilled water twice for all the people at the table. The server had an attitude and obviously wanted to go home bc it was before closing. As the food was coming out they mixed up our order and later the server came out and tell us that they ran out of lamb and that's 3 orders of it. Then the server expressed that they ran out of Brussels sprouts and did not offer anything instead when asked if they can offer a side salad she said that the kitchen is closed. This has been the worst service and not accommodating at all. We had around 20 people and they sure got their tip. I would not recommend coming here at all. read more

Some of the best service I've had in a while. Even though my interactions were brief (just takeaway orders both times), the staff at Kid Cashew couldn't have been nicer or more attentive. The restaurant is in a great location with plenty of parking in the lot, though it can get kind of packed depending on the time you go. The atmosphere is light and laid back. I could definitely see myself eating in there even with my 2yo in tow. They have a variety of seating options (tables, booth seating, and at-the bar) and lots of decor to catch your eye while you wait for your meal. I tried the vegan gyro and the stuffed half avocado (also vegan). The stuffed avocado was like the perfect little fresh salad to munch on after a day at the beach (we stopped on the way back from Isle of the Palms like 10min away). Portobello gyro was tasty but also a little messy with the amount of sauce on it. Sauce was delicious though! I didn't really love the flavor of the spice on the chips, but that's just a personal preference and I probably could've asked for plain chips (it wasn't a big enough deal to bother with). My partner doesn't like kettle chips so he refused to order altogether (he was after one of their burgers originally, but absolutely will not eat a burger without fries). I would encourage them to offer fries too at least for other people like him. Overall, great experience and I'm sure I'll consider them for a flavorful meal next time I'm in town. read more

It was ok; spoiled after eating vegan at Vegan Junk Food in Amsterdam (seriously check these VJF people out, their food is bonkers for ANYONE let alone vegans) I enjoy the kitch of "no microwaves, no freezers" as that is a great touch to know how fresh your food is. However, on this visit it didn't mean the food was that special. Granted, it was lunchtime and it was good (I had the portobello gyro from the vegan options) but I didn't leave with that nagging feeling to return to try other items. This place is great. If you have a dog, you can sit outside under the heat lamps. The apps are great and if you go from 4-7, you can get the small plates for $6 a piece (we got four of em!). This is definitely a healthy, share-it-all type of dinner joint. I think it would also be great for a healthy lunch. The drinks are made with fresh ingredients and they taste great - not too heavy. The veggies & chicken dishes are perfectly seasoned. We brought my dad along, who definitely isn't a health food type of guy, and he definitely enjoyed his double cheeseburger, so there are options for the "I'll eat whatever" people too. There's a great Mac n' Cheese side dish if you want more where that came from. The interior is really nice too, covered in beautiful wood with a fun bar atmosphere in case you want to hang out with friends for drinks. Even though every place has its own recipe for brussel sprouts, I was actually really fond of this switch-up. It was based in what tasted like a mustardy butter sauce and had sliced almonds, rather than being charred or fried. Another highlight was absolutely the 3-variety dip, which came with warm pita triangles, celery, and carrots and included a roasted red pepper hummus, tzatziki, and spicy feta (SO much better than babagonoush). The dips were a bit heavy on the olive oil, but with all the other health foods you're eating, it doesn't feel like too big of an indulgence. Kind servers, dog lovers, and laid-back people. My girlfriend and I found everything to simply be fine. Hipster vibes and menu selection, which isn't really our thing. So others might love it. I got a burger and girlfriend got the chicken sandwich; we both preferred the chicken sandwich. She got the quinao-stuffed avocado on the side, which is a little misleading because it's basically a regular salad with half an avocado buried under it. I had polenta with mine and it was fine. Service was spotty. After he took our order we didn't see him the rest of the night and had to get someone else to get us our check. Yes the wood fired grilled beets had smoky flavor; the beef burger was just ok, lamb burger tough and ok. Both were just too large with 2 patties. My lamb burger had a pink hue to interior, which made me wonder. Then to charge $11 & $13 and serve baked potato chips, not worth it. Service, 1 star - long wait to place our order; lack of ice refill for ice tea refill; walk by service "everything OK?" while she just walks by, doesn't stop at table; telling a later table of the specials but not us; spilling food on table when removing plates; yelling Thanks across the room as we depart. I know, sounds like nothing. But I felt like she just was not tuned in and really did not care. Let it be self service instead. No thanks Kid Cashew. I love Kid Cashew's menu and the variety of gluten free and vegan items that they offer. My disclaimer is that I enjoy the Wood Fired Portobello Gyro so much that I honestly can't remember getting anything other than that since I started coming here. The chips that come with the gyro are equally great and complement the gyro perfectly. The side of brussel sprouts were good but I like brussel sprouts with a little more crunch and a little less butter. It's been awhile since i've actually sat down here to eat mostly because the last time my boyfriend and I had lunch here, he got the domestic leg of lamb. Unfortunately, he got pretty sick afterwards and we believe it was because of the amount of oil that the lamb was drenched in. We can't say for sure, but ever since that meal he won't eat there. He did enjoy the meal but I do remember the amount of oil on the leg of lamb being way too much for the amount of lamb being served. Every time I've picked up my food, the host/hostess is very friendly and makes conversation while I wait for my food, even if I'm just there for a few minutes. I will continue to get the gyro when I have that craving for it, but I am a little hesitant to try other menu items based on the oil on the leg of lamb and amount of butter they put on the bruseel sprouts. read more

Absolutely wonderful!! Beginning with out waitress Kit Cat, who seated us quickly and told us about some specialty the restaurant offers. She was able to articulate answers to all my questions about the menu. We did two pick twos! And butterless Brussels sprouts as an appetizer!
