The sushi was good, but not great. Speed of service is good and prices are reasonable for what you get. It's a good mid-tier sushi restaurant and, of course, has the novelty of the revolving sushi belt. If you're looking for a high end experience, this may not be your place. But, if looking for value, Kiku is a good choice. Note: 1) Ika (my personal favorite) is listed both on their website before you come in and even on their printed menu once you are seated in the restaurant, but be aware they do not have any and 2) be extra careful when communicating your order as the waitstaff will make assumptions on your behalf. For example, I asked if they have salmon roe to which the waitstaff said "yes", but when they brought my order to our table they had substituted salmon nigiri in its place offering no explanation nor telling me what to expect, just leaving me to discover it after taking the plastic cover off the plate. read more

Stopped by Kiku on a Tuesday around 6 PM. It was pretty busy for a weekday and they were offering a deal that day. I know there are mixed reviews about the sushi, and unfortunately my experience leaned toward the negative. The sushi did not seem fresh and was sitting at room temperature. You could tell some of the rolls, especially ones with sauce, had likely gone around the belt multiple times since the sauce had started to soak into them. That said, the flavors were actually good and the fish itself did not taste bad. I have been to other rotating sushi spots where items circle more than once but still taste fresh, so this stood out to me. The restaurant itself seemed clean and I did not have any issues there. Kiku sushi is a conveyor belt sushi spot that it says online cost $2.50 for each plate, but when you go in person the plate costs $3.75 each. I told the workers that online I read it says that and she just apologized and says we have to go with the $3.75 price. They need to fix the false advertising I didn't bother to argue too much about it and just hoped the food would compensate for it. I picked a few items on the sushi converyor belt such as shrimp tempura, volcano roll, and some other roll with salmon and nothing really stood out everything was around a 5 to 7/10. The one item i ordered separately was the calamari and that actually was super crispy/tasty 9/10. Came in Friday night for a quick dinner out. Waited a few minutes to be seated, sat at the bar which was clean, and we received friendly service from our server. Unfortunately the first items we grabbed seemed like they had been out on the belt for quite awhile, one was the trust me roll which was soggy and the avocado had gone brown, the other dish was the orange chicken which was cold and also soggy. After this we paid more attention and only picked rolls we watched them put out. Overall we just did not enjoy the food and ate less than we usually would've when going out for sushi. read more

Although the staff was friendly the waitress left after taking only part of the tables drink order and then was shocked when others still had to put their orders in....food was not good. I've eaten here in the past and was impressed with quality, it has seemingly gone down since then. One of the rolls was very fishy smelling. Food that should have been hot were cold, and food that should have been cold were warm despite the restaurant just opening, which indicates to me they just throw leftovers on the belt from the day before. I'm not sure why this place has such low reviews, while it's obviously not some bougie sushi spot it is definitely not the worst I've had. The location is pretty decent size and was so busy when we arrived. Luckily we snagged one of the last seats. Service was pretty quick, took our drink order, explained how things worked and left us a menu with some more options that aren't on the belt. We arrived on Friday which was all day happy hour. This meant all plates no matter the color were all 3.50 s plate. I loved the fireman roll (I think that's what it was called) it was spicy and delicious. We also enjoyed a cucumber salad, spicy crab rolls, gyoza, California rolls and so much more. Vibe isn't super fancy, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. They also had many dessert options from cheesecakes to mochi.we ate so much and didn't even spend more than $40 with tip. Great deal in my opinion. This was our first time here and we are definitely coming back. The place was clean with friendly staff. They have a big variety of sushi rolls, salads and desserts. Everything we had was good. Our favorite was the octopus salad, the monkey balls and a salmon sashimi that comes with sweet onions and sauce that I can't remember what it's called. The only one we didn't like was the fried rice balls. For dessert we had sesame seeds balls (my favorite), prepackaged cheesecake and macaroons. All delicious. What a selection! Of all the rotating sushi places I've been to -- in San Diego, San Francisco and Tokyo -- KiKu has the best variety of nigiri, rolls, appetizers and desserts. For that, I was very impressed. I will say that the one thing -- the most important thing -- that soured the trip was that most of the sushi rice was undercooked. It was not all the items, so I expect it was simply a bad batch that wasn't quality controlled. That half ruined the dinner. That aside, I still enjoyed dinner and would certainly gift KiKu another try. All sushi and rolls go for $3.20, and can go up to $9 depending on the item. The gyoza and karaage were nice. Also enjoyed the edamame. I was pleased to see nigiri offerings include Japanese snapper, ikura, yellowtail, mackerel and scallop. There was one dish that surprised me: The Bubble Pop Roll. I took it mistaking the pop portion, believing it was ikura. As I brought the plate to the table, I leaned in, head cocked. Ikura is never that large -- what on earth is this? I couldn't tell. I opted for a bite and was shocked that the pop portion was mango-tasting jellies. It was a California roll with these jellies stacked high. My response was to immediately recoil, as the flavor was nothing I expected. Then I found that the creamy crab melded so well with the jellies. To my absolute surprise! I ordered another. I recommend trying it once, and before you judge the dish. They also serve full dishes, like teriyaki chicken, bulgogi, yakisoba, fried rice dishes, udon, ramen and other dishes. They also offer about one dozen types of sake, including unfiltered and strawberry, peach and plum sake. Wines are basic -- a Chardonnay, Cab, Merlot and a Sauvignon Blanc. The only other thing I dislike is that the team does not take the plates until your meal is over. So you simply keep the stack of dirty dishes at the table (Kura has spoiled me there). read more

Kiku easily became a family favorite after our first visit years ago. Current price for items on the belt is $3.20 - still affordable thankfully. I know there has been some reviews that mention low quality and such but I think it is undeserved. This is a very casual sushi/Asian restaurant so of course quality isn't going to be on par like say, Nobu. You are dreaming to expect that at $3 per plate. I believe the quality is very good for the price and many others agree as this place is always jammin'. All of the stuff we've tried over the years have been delicious and I appreciate that new items are introduced every once in awhile to keep things interesting. Many forget that you can always request the belt items be made fresh for you if they've been sitting out too long. This can help address some perceived quality issues if it bothers you. Service has been consistently sparse but friendly at least. If you happen to visit during a busy time, don't fret about waiting too long. A lot of tables turn over fast and staff is very good about cleaning up quickly once the guests have left. The revolving belt that all the plates cam by on was amazing It does go by a little fast but that's good because if you miss the sushi you want, it doesn't take super long to come back around. It's also funny to watch my teen try to get one she wants and then it's just fast enough and she has to wait again.. lol.. The sushi is ok but I like that I get to try many different kinds and the food is ready when I get here. Specially when I'm hungry. I come here regularly I just wish they had a better way to tally the wait time. As of now they have a sign in paper sheet. The problem I have seen is that people would scratch the names above so they get called faster meanwhile other loose their spot. The place is kind a small and there is always a line to get there. Ambiance is busy like but also family style. This is not a place to come and hang out or drink with friends. As there is plenty of people waiting. My husband and son were on the way. After trying several items, we called them and told them not to bother coming as sushi was meh and we were leaving after a very mediocre experience. I will say, however, eating until your full can be somewhat detrimental to your wallet if you bring someone along with a bottomless pit for a stomach. At about $3.50 a plate, someone able and willing to eat 10 plates on their own can end up being a bit much.
