Stopped by Kiku on a Tuesday around 6 PM. It was pretty busy for a weekday and they were offering a deal that day. I know there are mixed reviews about the sushi, and unfortunately my experience leaned toward the negative. The sushi did not seem fresh and was sitting at room temperature. You could tell some of the rolls, especially ones with sauce, had likely gone around the belt multiple times since the sauce had started to soak into them. That said, the flavors were actually good and the fish itself did not taste bad. I have been to other rotating sushi spots where items circle more than once but still taste fresh, so this stood out to me. The restaurant itself seemed clean and I did not have any issues there. Came in Friday night for a quick dinner out. Waited a few minutes to be seated, sat at the bar which was clean, and we received friendly service from our server. Unfortunately the first items we grabbed seemed like they had been out on the belt for quite awhile, one was the trust me roll which was soggy and the avocado had gone brown, the other dish was the orange chicken which was cold and also soggy. I'm not sure why this place has such low reviews, while it's obviously not some bougie sushi spot it is definitely not the worst I've had. The location is pretty decent size and was so busy when we arrived. Luckily we snagged one of the last seats. Service was pretty quick, took our drink order, explained how things worked and left us a menu with some more options that aren't on the belt. We arrived on Friday which was all day happy hour. This meant all plates no matter the color were all 3.50 s plate. I loved the fireman roll (I think that's what it was called) it was spicy and delicious. We also enjoyed a cucumber salad, spicy crab rolls, gyoza, California rolls and so much more. Vibe isn't super fancy, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. They also had many dessert options from cheesecakes to mochi.we ate so much and didn't even spend more than $40 with tip. Great deal in my opinion. This was our first time here and we are definitely coming back. The place was clean with friendly staff. They have a big variety of sushi rolls, salads and desserts. Everything we had was good. Our favorite was the octopus salad, the monkey balls and a salmon sashimi that comes with sweet onions and sauce that I can't remember what it's called. The only one we didn't like was the fried rice balls. For dessert we had sesame seeds balls (my favorite), prepackaged cheesecake and macaroons. All delicious. What a selection! Of all the rotating sushi places I've been to -- in San Diego, San Francisco and Tokyo -- KiKu has the best variety of nigiri, rolls, appetizers and desserts. For that, I was very impressed. I will say that the one thing -- the most important thing -- that soured the trip was that most of the sushi rice was undercooked. It was not all the items, so I expect it was simply a bad batch that wasn't quality controlled. That half ruined the dinner. That aside, I still enjoyed dinner and would certainly gift KiKu another try. All sushi and rolls go for $3.20, and can go up to $9 depending on the item. The gyoza and karaage were nice. Also enjoyed the edamame. I was pleased to see nigiri offerings include Japanese snapper, ikura, yellowtail, mackerel and scallop. There was one dish that surprised me: The Bubble Pop Roll. I took it mistaking the pop portion, believing it was ikura. As I brought the plate to the table, I leaned in, head cocked. Ikura is never that large -- what on earth is this? I couldn't tell. I opted for a bite and was shocked that the pop portion was mango-tasting jellies. It was a California roll with these jellies stacked high. My response was to immediately recoil, as the flavor was nothing I expected. Then I found that the creamy crab melded so well with the jellies. To my absolute surprise! I ordered another. I recommend trying it once, and before you judge the dish. They also serve full dishes, like teriyaki chicken, bulgogi, yakisoba, fried rice dishes, udon, ramen and other dishes. They also offer about one dozen types of sake, including unfiltered and strawberry, peach and plum sake. Wines are basic -- a Chardonnay, Cab, Merlot and a Sauvignon Blanc. The only other thing I dislike is that the team does not take the plates until your meal is over. So you simply keep the stack of dirty dishes at the table (Kura has spoiled me there). read more

The revolving belt that all the plates cam by on was amazing It does go by a little fast but that's good because if you miss the sushi you want, it doesn't take super long to come back around. Kiku easily became a family favorite after our first visit years ago. Current price for items on the belt is $3.20 - still affordable thankfully. I know there has been some reviews that mention low quality and such but I think it is undeserved. This is a very casual sushi/Asian restaurant so of course quality isn't going to be on par like say, Nobu. You are dreaming to expect that at $3 per plate. I believe the quality is very good for the price and many others agree as this place is always jammin'. All of the stuff we've tried over the years have been delicious and I appreciate that new items are introduced every once in awhile to keep things interesting. Many forget that you can always request the belt items be made fresh for you if they've been sitting out too long. This can help address some perceived quality issues if it bothers you. Service has been consistently sparse but friendly at least. If you happen to visit during a busy time, don't fret about waiting too long. A lot of tables turn over fast and staff is very good about cleaning up quickly once the guests have left. Being budget friendly, serving delicious items from the belt and kitchen, and decent service kept us coming back. I hope Kiku stays for many years to come! read more

It was my daughter's birthday and she requested sushi train restaurant. We found this place on google. We arrived, and there were several empty tables. They requested we wait while they cleaned one. Other people walked in and were immediately seated. We were starving, but waited for them to clean table. Once seated we selected several items from passing conveyor belt. My husband and son were on the way. After trying several items, we called them and told them not to bother coming as sushi was meh and we were leaving after a very mediocre experience. They arrived anyway, and my husband also tried the selections (as we only sampled them) and said he agreed about taste and wouldn't order anything for himself. I love everything about this spot. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for around three years and we have always gotten great service. The food on the belt is fresh almost always and if it is not, they will absolutely bring you fresh instead of what is on the belt. We normally hit the spot up about 3 to 4 times per month and over the course of three years, we've probably eaten here over 125 times easily and maybe 2 to 3 times I've had to request a role be traded with fresh rolls just because the avocado in the roll has browned. The servers that work at this establishment are always incredibly kind. It is not some fancy uppity spot; it is just a small restaurant where you can get really good food at a really good price and they play television that creates an ambience and culture that you would expect in this type of establishment. Also, the chicken nuggets are the best chicken nuggets ever. I just wish I could order extra chicken nuggets without having to get extra fries because my kids love these chicken nuggets. read more

My family and I love coming here for sushi. The portions being smaller means you can eat until you're full and you don't have to feel guilty about still having half a roll on your plate that, let's be honest, doesn't save too well in AZ. No stress about buying dry ice just to bring home leftovers. I will say, however, eating until your full can be somewhat detrimental to your wallet if you bring someone along with a bottomless pit for a stomach. At about $3.50 a plate, someone able and willing to eat 10 plates on their own can end up being a bit much. That price isn't bad if you don't have that problem, though, and I think this sushi bar would be a great spot for a date rather than a group or family outing. The sushi is great, the restaurant is clean and just the right level of cozy, and the staff are both friendly and attentive. Fast service, absolutely you can sit down and literally eat in seconds. Drink service is lame, you have to look for the server and call them over. Now as previous reviews said it's weird your back is to the restaurant at the sushi bar, what sushi place is not like that... in this case it's the best spot to sit as you see all the fresh plates being dropped. This is super important as the plates were good but if you sit long enough you can def see what plates have been sitting for a scary long time. What we choose was good and fresh as we paid attention. It wasn't WOWWWWW but it was a great deal for the price and your sushi fix. We will be back. It was very busy but fast turnover. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this spot! There was a 10 minute wait or so when we got there but plenty of benches up front to sit. The place was smaller but really clean. Once seated at the bar our drink orders were taken and brought out quickly along with ginger and wasabi. There was soy and eel sauce already at the bar as well. The sushi was good and fresh however I felt like we watched the same empty ones pass. I really wanted to try the poke but that one was never filled the whole time we were there. The edamame looked kind of dry but was warm and tasted okay. I really enjoyed the Kiku roll and sashimi. Everything that should be cold was and didn't seem like anything was out long at all.
