This is a great spot for a cheap lunch with a cheap drink. Unfortunately my job moved from Fidi so I'm not nearby anymore but I would return if I was in the area. The service is always great and friendly. They have super cheap drinks during the day and pretty much everything on the menu that I've ever gotten here has been good. Killarney Rose started out as being a good find. $5 well drinks for happy hour and the server upstairs was attentive. Then, more people showed up and he got very bizarre. He ignored our table and cleared food and drinks we were obviously still working on without even asking if we were done. Several in my party noted their well drinks were watered down as well. It's so nice to have the honor of breaking the Kilarney Rose's Yelp cherry. Located in the heart of the financial district, the Kilarney Rose is no doubt responsible for padding many a business deal between the bankers who congregate here for a lunchtime cocktail. I'm sure that the KR is also somewhat responsible for many a failed liver, since I've witnessed crusty old scotch hounds signing their social security checks over to the bartenders. The food is a little sub par, but what does one expect from buffet style bar fare? It all tastes good after 6 or seven drinks. It's a downtown institution that annoyingly still abides by the puritanical (and now quite defunct) blue laws by not opening on Sundays. I'd call it the perfect bar for catching the last quarter of a Knicks game, but not much else. Since the bathroom is located upstairs and I once had a psychotropic substance of some kind slipped into my drink while I was taking a whizz (woke up 6 hours later in Queens with my pockets slashed), I can't say I feel very comfortable spending gratuitous amounts of time at the Kilarney. I don't even know how many countless times ive been at this place...It's one of the few places in the financial district that is great quality at a decent price. It's a typical Irish pub kinda of atmosphere, and if you come here enough its sort of like Cheers, "everybody knows your name!". The bar opens early and closes late. The bartenders are awesome and will make you anything to perfection. The food is really good, I love the fish and chips and the mozzarella sticks appetizer! A great place to go and hang out with your friends and order a whole bunch of food to share. I always say "I'm coming for one drink", which NEVER happends...this place just sucks you in... and then you look at the time and your thinking "have I really been here that long". This is very sad for me to write. I lived above this bar a decade ago and there is a nostalgic happy feeling I have towards this bar. Once upon a time the wings and the sliders were so good that I would order them and eat them in my apartment at least a few times a month. Then there is today. The food was so reheated or over done that the meat on the wings crisped off with no meat. They were so dry. The side of mozzarella sticks was breading with a large air gap around the cheese. There are way too many bars around the area (dive, fancy, any type) for another try at the venue. read more

If you have a server named Louise then you know you are in good hands. No, I am not talking about myself it just so happens we share the same name. The second she sees that your beer is getting lowered you will have a new beer all setup for you and ready to drink. The people that go here can be either hit or miss. Yes, most people who go here look like they get paid well, gosh I don't know why I come here then. haha. :::BATHROOM ALERT::: Not too pleased with the bathroom here. I do not like bars that have bathrooms upstairs or downstairs. This one happens to be upstairs. I never think that it is wise for a drunk person to have to be near any type of stairs. Stairs and drunk people is just a hazard in itself. The bathroom is clean, but there could have been some sort of air freshener or something to make it smell less stale. Wow. We showed up for lunch today around 130 and got seated quickly. We placed our orders right away and the wings came out really quick. So the appetizer was done and we were waiting for our entrees. And we waited and waited and waited. Then at 230 we said my boss had to leave so could we get his entree to go. At that point they realized our entree orders had never gone through. Should they place them now? NO. We asked for the check, and when we paid they charged my friends card for someone else's table. A bill 3x the amount of ours. Now they voided that but don't you think they should have been more careful at that point? We walked out hungry and extremely frustrated. Never again. read more

Killarney Rose is a classic NYC Irish pub. Celtic knots and phrases are stenciled all over the interior, and most of the staff are Irish. If you're lucky, they'll draw a shamrock in the foam of your pint of Guinness. The Rose is totally different at night versus during the day and early evening. At night it caters to regulars and randoms from around the area, while during the day it's more of a working class watering hole. It's definitely a place for career alcoholics and sodden barflies to hang out and get wasted together. The lounge upstairs is weird; sometimes the door is open and people are inside, while others the door is closed and you'd never know it was there. It also has its own bar, but I've never seen a bartender up there. The food is surprisingly okay, particularly the reuben. It's bar food, so don't expect it to be awesome. But it does a good job of soaking up the booze when you most need it. Go to the Rose if you're looking for a mostly-empty low-key pub to sit in and drink cheap pints. You'll never find a party there, except maybe on St. Paddy's Day, but the service is reliably good and the price is right. Also, the music is always either pretty good or excellent, depending on who's bartending. UPDATE: I have a drink named after me there! This is the post-work watering hole. As in, I need to walk out the door of my office building and get my BAC up in 5 minutes so I'm making a beeline here. The crowd is all over the place depending on the night; some nights my friends and I are one of 3 groups here, and other nights it looks like everywhere else in the FiDi was closed. Still, it's spacious and you can usually escape to the upper level for some breathing room. Drinks aren't particularly cheap or expensive - usually $6 drafts and well drinks. Well drinks are strong. Their burgers are delicious and if you ask to split one, they will bring you a full platter of fries and sides with each half. Okay fine. I also have a huge girl crush on Olivia, the teensy adorable trash-talking Irish bartender. I'm not sorry. read more

Gave it a try for lunch. Ordered chicken fried steak, with bacon in gravy , mash potatoes and they emphasized sweet corn. Sounded good. Mistake...the chicken was a pre-breaded piece that was tossed in the fryer all dry on the edges ( any southerner would cringe at this, i know i did). Gravy wasn't too bad very little bacon but....not bad, good mashed potatoes but just barely warm. The corn...the corn was out of a can! How do I know? I hate can corn. Despite it being a mere 30 seconds from my door, it took me more than a year to step inside Killarney Rose. I don't like to pay too much for shitty service and I dislike being around obnoxious drunks even more; so bars have little draw for me. But now that I have gone to KR twice, it is fast becoming my favorite place to buy a drink with a friend. The staff was extremely friendly to me on both occasions - and what's more they were professional. Coupled with the unpretentious but upscale decor and you've got a damned good neighborhood pub. If you're anything like myself, head over on a weekday night. Weekends seem OK, but with the typical FiDi clientele raising the noise level, it's not that different an experience from the other meat market pubs in the area. read more

A local watering hole in FiDi - you'll find many a Wall Street employee here after hours. So if you're into that kind of crowd, and dont mind a bit of a wait at the bar during peak happy hours, Killarney Rose is not a bad weeknight bar. The bar is quite long so there should be stools open (depending on when you arrive). Otherwise there are lots of high bar tables all along the side walls and I believe there is more seating upstairs as well. Food was actually pretty good - we ordered wings and fries. Flavorful enough to help balance out the alcohol in my system ;) Reasonably priced as well - a couple rounds of wings and fries only set us back ~$25. Not too much to say about the service - this is more a "just get me my drink and dont talk to me" bar, at least the night I went. Then again, our group was quite large. My favorite bar for a relaxing beer in FiDi. Kilarney Rose has without question the nicest bartenders. If I'm flying solo, and I'm looking for a good after hour ear, John and Thomas are always willing to take a shot of Jameson with you and talk Ireland. The drinks here are some of the most reasonably priced, especially considering its close proximity to Stone Street. You'll always find a few more of the shadier locals at the Kilarney than on Stone, and frankly, that's the way I like my dives. Great music usually played from the guys iPods as well. read more

I happened upon Killarney Rose after a job interview and I was determined to not eat at a chain fast food-type restaurant. Their menu board boasting of blackened catfish caught my eye and I was sold. The place was packed and I went and got my dish and my two sides. It was quite a healthy portion ... I only finished half of it. This place is a great little gem for a lunch date/after work links. My co-worker and I had lunch at this place on a Tuesday roughly around 1pm. The place wasn't packed at all and the waitress arrived to our table shortly. The selection of food item was not limited and the prices were super affordable. Expect to pay anywhere between $10-22 for your meal. Unfortunately, I did not order a drink as it was during work hours but the ambiance was calm and worth the trip. A close friend of mine hosted a belated birthday party gathering for me here. Killarney Rose does not disappoint. The bar tender is known to improvise drinks which was invigorating to the senses. He is also flexible to sing "Happy Birthday" and put a candle in desserts for the birthday guest. The wait staff is attentive to patrons needs and willing to oblige to lower the heat or increase the air conditioner. The Shepard's Pie is good as well as the bar food. How do you pronounce the name of the bar? Keelarnee?? This bar is ok, it has 2 floors. You can book the top floor for your private event. I was there for an event and it was weird how I saw a few people not from our group, sitting there and possibly drinking off our tab. It gets crazy and crowded on Friday evenings but otherwise the bar is quiet and full of servers that offer awesome service. I use to stop in here for happy hour when working on Wall Street. I always enjoyed the ambience as it was fairly low key, good drink specials and a good amount of space on the lower and upper floors. They do stoli vodka and craft beer specials on Thursday evenings if that's your thing. The place also gets really quiet after happy hour (possibly the days I was there - mostly summer time) so it's good for group gatherings but not for meeting people. Came here for dinner on a Friday after work with my husband. Atmosphere was fun, music was loud, but fine with me for a friday! We sat a high table, service was quick, we ordered two draft beers. For starters we had the jalapeño poppers, which were good. For mains he had the fish sandwich with French fries, it was a great play on the norm fish and chips. It came with a Cajun dip for the fries which was my fave part of the entire meal. it was a very tasty dish. I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich. I asked for the bread to be swapped out for a wrap because that's just how I prefer it, but was told that it may not be possible because the chicken is so big, so I stuck with the bread. It was huge, I only ate half. Flavor wise, it was a simple chicken sandwich, for buffalo, there was zero heat. I asked for more buffalo sauce on the side, but to me it was more like a bbq sauce. My husband disagreed with me, and I do half a rather high tolerance for heat, but to me the sauce was sweet and smokey. It was bbq sauce! Anyway, food was good despite it not being entirely what I expected. I would go back again if we meet in that area after work in the future. read more

The Stone Street alternative... If you follow my reviews you will notice a trend... I love a good deal! This is the FiDi bar which hits the sweet spot between nice surroundings and decent pricing. The decor is not quite as nice as the higher end spots in the FiDi but its definitely nicer than Jeremy's ale house. It gets crowded with the afterwork set but it's rarely ever as packed in as Ulysses and it wont hurt your Credit Card quite as bad. read more
