We came here after reading reviews on Facebook, but the praise felt a bit overhyped. The space inside is small, so you have to share tables with others. Came here yesterday for lunch with a buddy. This is the OG Kim Ky and still the best of all the Trieu Chau noodle spots. The broth actually has flavor and doesn't need extra condiments like you'd find at other places. We ordered the Hu Tieu Trieu Chau Thap Cam with flat rice noodle and thin egg noodle. I got mine dry with the broth on the side. We also had a Chinese donut (dau cha quay), which was perfect for dipping. Drinks come with complimentary iced tea. The food is hands down 5 stars. The satay and pickled chili here take the noodles to the next level. But the ambiance can get pretty loud, the decor is bare bones, and the service is your standard mom and pop style. Parking can also be a bit of a headache since the plaza is so busy. Overall, I'd rate this 4 stars. The food is amazing and keeps me coming back, but the atmosphere and service bring it down a notch. Kim Ky is different from kim kee and it's 2 separate restaurants so don't get them mixed up. Both are really similar and both have their signature fish fried fish cakes. They have 3 different locations: one in San Gabriel on San Gabriel Blvd, one in Rosemead on Garvey Ave and one in Westminster. Make sure you bring CASH because it's cash only! Food is decent! Service is great! Servers are friendly and helpful! Make sure you order their fried fish cakes because it's one of their signature dish. For the food alone, i would give it a 4 star. Flavors and dishes are pretty identical to Kim Ky Monterey Park which is the staple go to spot for Hu Tieu in SGV! Came here on a Saturday for lunch and place was brimming with customers. Date of visit: 11/14/2024 Not my first visit here, and again, I couldn't believe myself for failing to write a review until now! So anyways, there are several locations of Kim Ky noodle. I'm not sure if they are all owned by the same person or if they are all separately owned and operated. Out of all Kim Kys, I feel this location is the most consistent one in terms of the flavor of their noodle. Whenever I go to Teow Chew noodle place, I always order the same thing: the assorted meat noodle (dry) with soup on the side. In other places, sometimes I'd get bland noodle and/or not freshly-tasted meat (the pork and/or the shrimp) but never at this location. This restaurant has consistently delivered, which I really favor for. My rice noodle is always cooked to perfection (my perfection when it comes to rice noodles is soft) and it's always flavorful. I never need to add any soy sauce and or fish sauce into my bowl. Just straight dig in! The only thing that I feel is lacking at this place is the richness of the side broth that comes with the noodle. I've had a much better and rich broth elsewhere, and therefore I can't give it 5 stars in my review. Sorry but my standard can be pretty high when it comes to noodle lol. Anyways, I would still highly recommend this place if you'd like to have a delicious teow chew style dry noodle. Tip: - always order the fried Chinese donut and dip it in the soup right before taking a bite and eat it with your noodle. - always ask for more fried onion to mix with your dry noodle. Tried this place from a recommendation and the food is wonderful! Got three dishes to share: assorted meat and shrimp with rice noodle soup, Seafood Chow Fun (noodles with sauce), and French Style Fried chicken with Fried Rice and all were wonderful. They were flavorful yet light. The only thing would be the bowls, there were some stuff leftover so I used a napkin to wipe them before using. But the place has an A for health inspection so all good! It does get crowded but we got a table very fast, within minutes. They do have a lot of food to go orders so that is also another option. I love coming here when I'm in town for my Asian fix. I usually get their half rice noodle and egg noodle soup accompanied with chives rice cakes so delicious. I like San Gabriel location but it's always so busy there. We come here instead which most of the time we get seated right away. Got a #1 Mi Thap Cam w/ small egg noodles. It came with pickled peppers and a satay that my whole family loves. I think the extras really elevate the dish and makes it 10x better so definitely get yourself some of that. They provide soup on the side and you can pour as you please if you get it to-go, which is what I like to do. Just remember this place is cash only! Have been a long time customer here for over 15 years, as well as my family from the 626. Never had issues until recently. Had asked for takeout boxes to pack our dine-in meals, and requested a condiment container. Waitress brings a very small pre-filled container of chili (2 pieces of chili), and a small empty bag. When we went to add a few more pieces of chili to the bag, she states the store policy and that they will charge for it, didn't offer a second container. Server had a very snappy and rude demeanor during whole process. We didn't know there policy, as we had been long time customers here. We respected the wishes and rules, left it as is. No harm no foul. However she continued to speak behind our backs in Chinese as if we didn't understand. She minced in some rude and disrespectful things as if we lifted a whole case of chili... then another worker joins in, and doubles down. I get it, mom and pop, asian style resturant culture is unique, but damn... A little situational awareness and basic customer service skills would've went a long way, especially if the food ain't anything to write home about and you stingy with you're condiments. Food here is average, they only take cash. The egg noodle seafood soup or wonton soup is what I usually get at these type of noodle houses. The one here is average at best tbh, soup is bland/dull, the meat portions are minimal, wonton meat is overcooked, prices have gotten higher, but due to being local mom and pop, I usually pick this spot. After this experience however, I won't be coming back, nor will my family. I personally prefer Kim Kee over at MPK(better broth and service), and will gladly make that drive then come back here :) TLDR; Expect some rude customer service. Bring cash. Don't ask for extras. Maybe bring your own napkins too, because they might hound you for using too many. Expect them to talk smack about you for not tipping 40%, despite their abysmal customer service. The only upgrades may be something crispy and fresh to balance it. Noodle Soup - Many variations but go for half and half on those noods with the broth on the side. This keeps your noodles from getting too soggy and your flavor add-ons surrounding your noodles. Then you can wash it away with their savory broth. Chinese Donut - This crispy Chinese Donut comes with a vegetal broth that isn't amazing on its own but gives nice flavor and moisture to the donut. Packed on weekends, busy service and a place your parents would prob want to eat at with your visiting relatives. On a Saturday morning, we waited maybe 20 minutes. The workers move quick! You have the choice or hot or iced tea. We got the #1 with egg noodles and a seafood chow fun after I saw another person eating it lol. The tables have sriracha, hoisin, vinegar, fish sauce, jalapeños, and chili oil as condiments. The food was so generously portioned and came out quickly. I loved my chow fun. I had wide rice noodles and they were the perfect springy texture. You can also choose to have the soup mixed in with the noodle or on the side. I choose the Wide Egg Noodles which was delicious but still wish I could've had it with better meat. This dish only came with pork intestines and kidney. I thought it would include more "regular" types of pork such as ground pork and not just organs.
