This place is a solid 4 stars. I come here often. The owner use to own the restaurant on Anaheim next to church's chicken . The Ka Tew ( soup noodles) is one of the best. The rice porridge is always on point. Like everywhere else prices gone up significantly. The beef sticks are a hit and miss sometimes. The fat noodles (Me Katung) is good there as well. The food is made pretty quick. This places is very beneficial to me cuz I just live down the streets. Best and only Khmer restaurant on the north side of the LBC. Tiny place, just the kind of hole-in-the-wall which is not high on atmosphere but you know the food is going to be good. Kim Sun did not disappoint. Beef stew with thin rice noodles, noodles are a little garlicky and herby (green onion, cilantro, fried shallot, lemon). Beef stew has lots of mysterious parts in it (I think I got some tendon, liver and other morsels) in a wonderfully rich broth. Phnom Penh noodle soup was nice too, clear with perhaps a tinge of garlic. Hainan chicken rice (with sub of fried rice) was good but not mind blowing. The clear broth that comes with the chicken rice is wonderful; chicken was good (I always find chicken of chicken rice fairly plain and flavorless...don't expect a flavor bomb). Fried rice was good, perhaps a little plain and slightly dry, not sure if that was much better than the steamed rice. Food was ready promptly, and a lot of food for not a lot of dough. It looks a small house that they made it to a restaurant serving delicious fusion of Cambodian and Chinese dishes. The dining room is very small, probably a total of 6 tables. They are known for their big bowl of soups. I especially love the Phnom Pehn Soup. Loaded with lots of meats and shrimps. The soup broth is very clean, clear without the added fat. The noodles is perfectly cooked just the right consistency. It great comfort food and it's only $6. What a bargain! They do have other soups and as well as Khmer dishes. I only do takeout so I can't say much about customer service since I've never really eaten there; they however do have about eight tables or so that can occupy about 25-30 people max. Right above the takeout menu there's a board filled with pictures of all the items they serve which I like because that way you know exactly what you're getting and how it's going to look like. Another work from home day means another excuse to find a new place to eat at lunch. After being stuck on conference calls all morning and not interacting with a single person face-to-face, I decided I needed to get out of the Casa. I accessed my handy list of over 400 bookmarked places and decided that something lighter and healthier was in order, Kim Sum seemed like a perfect destination... I was under the impression that this was a Cambodian place, but when I pulled up, their sign said Chinese, I admit I was confused for a second. Then, somewhere in the back of my grey matter it donned on me that China and Cambodia share a tangled history and it all made sense. So, this appeared to be a hybrid, if you will, offering dished from both cultures. The place is tiny, but very homey and comfortable; my expectations were high as soon as I opened the door. I was greeted and seated and ordered an ice coffee, mainly because my morning cup hadn't been satisfying enough. I had NO IDEA what I was getting however. My coffee came and I casually took a sip and my life has not been the same since... Holy cow! That is THE BEST friggin ice coffee I have EVER had. Similar to a Thai Sweet Tea, this coffee was super sweet, creamy and delicious. It tasted like a combination of coffee, chocolate milk and Baileys (without the good stuff). I sucked it down in under a minute, for sure. It is sweet, while not being offensively sweet, but for those that don't like sweet, it might not be for you. Which is fine because that means there is more for me! If there was such a thing as 6 stars, this ice coffee would get it from me!! For my main, I decided to go for a soup, mainly to stay clear of the fried stuff. Today, I went with their combo soup, which is a mixture of chicken wanton and noodle soup, along with tons of fresh veggies, pork and shrimp. For under $6 (cash only place), I got a very substantial bowl of soup that more than filled me up. With a squeeze of lime and a liberal dabbing of chili sauce, which I fondly call rooster sauce, I was in business. True story, my nine year old, until recently, thought the sauce was actually made from blended roosters. Ha! The result, another awesome lunch nearby at an establishment I didn't even know existed. I called in to place my order and the girl over the phone was very sweet and professional. As I'm driving there I had to do a few u turns since the place wasn't easy to find and I was confidence finding it. Parking was easy for me and as I walked in I was greeted by the girl who took my order. I asked for extra sauces and she was nice enough to give me containers to pour the ones that I want. 5 STARS CUSTOMER SERVICE i went there about a mont ago with my parent. then this weekend i was craving for some phnom penh noodle. i had an appointment at 1pm so we dont have enough time to drive to Monorom for breakfast then we went there again. it is small but not too crowded. i usually get the table the minute i walked in. the lady i think she is the owner's daughter is really friendly. she always smile and bring anything we asked for without giving us any attitude or like she doesn't want to give us more. me and my sister ordered ice tea lemonade, but i think her mum made it put a lot of tea so it is really strong and bitter. she knew it and told us to let her know if it is too strong. but before we decided to lets her know, we ask for a lot of lime like A LOT and add more sugar but it taste doesn't help with the bitter taste. so i let's her know and she smiles and bring it to her mum to make us another one. when she brought it to us she also said if it's still not good to our taste lets her know. i mean where can you find someone who is nice and always willing to help.
