Decided to try this place on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised. The noodles are SO GOOD HERE we placed an order at the restaurant for the house special, 2 item BBQ, and fried intestine. The wait was quite long, they said 15 to 20 mins but it was more like 30+. There were quite a few togo orders I guess ahead of us because at least 3 or 4 people came and left before us. However, it was honestly worth the wait. The noodles were delicious. I cannot emphasize how great the noodle texture here! The soup was flavorful, not salty and not bland (you really didn't need to add anything to it) and the meat in the soup was great! If you're looking for a rarity that you can not eat every day for the sake of health then try the deep fried intestines with plum sauce. Occasionally, I will order a whole duck to go with the whole thing, and bring the rest home later to feast on. What I have noticed recently, the last two times is that the seasoning has gotten a lot more salty than usual. I'm all about consistency with the places I frequent. Came to ordered 3 dishes today ( Chinese Broccoli, kung pao chicken, seafood fried rice, chow fun) and I was very disappointed. I paid $11 for Chinese Broccoli with oyster sauce and the order is like for 1 person. Compared with other 3 dishes, it looks like they ran out of the Chinese broccoli or they were very very stingy. The kung pao chicken should be a simple dishes, and when we received it , and it doesn't like kung pao chicken at all. The peanuts tastes old as well as chicken. Stopped by on the way to the grocery store next door, and the roast pork (char siew) was recommended by one of the staff. HOWEVER: the char siew (roast pork) was frankly OUTSTANDING. I've had a lot of sub-standard char siew in Los Angeles. This one is tender, flavorful, without the smelly muskiness of sub-par pork, and without the fake-candiness and food coloring of other inferior varieties. Their roast port is real-deal and excellent, and I look forward to trying that again. I'm in a Chinese restaurant so of course hair would be black.. next I looked at the length and it was at least 3 inches shorter than mine. And I had hair pin so it can fall for sure know is not my hair. I told the waitresses and she said are you sure is not yours and I said no. She said she checked and stuff but I wouldn't budge. People kept coming in and out and it was freezing! My bf ordered the Mongolian beef with rice & I ordered the bbq pork & duck plate. It came with soup, pickled veggies, rice & the pork. My bfs Mongolian beef was decent. They smother it in green onions and white onions. My bbq pork & duck plate in the other hand..was so dry! The duck was bland and they gave me pretty much all bones. I also found a thin short hair in my food. I told the waitress and all she said was "oh" she whispered something to the older man, I guess he's the owner. All he did was just hand us our check. No acknowledgement of the hair once so ever. I showed it to him and all he said was "ok" no discounts or explanation. We paid for our food and we left. I have to stop by for lunch every now and then when I'm in the area. It's the only place, close enough to work, where I can get authentic Chinese noodles. I mean, they have roast duck and pig hanging by the window. Can't get much more authentic than that, right? Busy or not, you get you food fast! Another reason why I like to stop here for lunch. Prices have steadily risen since I first started coming here. A roast duck egg (yellow) noodle soup, which is what I ordered today is now close to $9.50 with tax. My other go to item is the Chow Fun Combination. I've never had issues with parking here. There is always parking nearby as they share parking with a cash and carry storefront that has more parking than they need. By the way, this place ONLY accepts Cash! No credit cards accepted. But with food this good, you don't need fancy walls. All the food is cheap. The highest dish will run at most $9. You get generous heaps of food for each dish you order. I think at most I waited five minutes for food to come out. It is completely authentic and the duck sauce they use is only known by two people. I love coming to this place at any time of the day. If you come before 2 PM they have six lunch specials that come with soup, wontons, and egg roll all for under $6. My caution would be to those who have never been to a real Chinese restaurant. If you've only been to places like Panda Express, Sam Woo, or P.F. Chang's, this place will shock your palate. Those places are all overly oily, drowning in sugars, and meant to please Western tongues. If you want a real taste of Chinese food, this is the place to go. Also, don't be deterred by the food grading on the wall. Almost all Asian restaurants have lower than A scores. It's because they have roasted duck & suckling pig hanging on hooks at the window. The way I see it, the non-A grade means that the food is for reals. So if you want incredible authentic Chinese food for under $7, this is the place to go. I was craving soy sauce chicken and roasted duck. I hadn't been in a long time so I figured, why not? I phoned in my order two item roasted duck and soy sauce chicken with rice and family style tofu with rice. Parking is very limited due to the old plaza but I got lucky my last visit. Front row parking to the restaurant. I arrived in about 15mins and my order was ready to go. I added another BBQ pork over rice and the total came out to $28. I was able to use my card since it was over $10. The man cutting the meat and the man at the cashier chuckled at my poor mandarin, but was very efficient and friendly. Family style tofu was good and they provided a boat load of rice. Soy sauce chicken and duck were good in taste but small in portion amount. The duck had a lot of bones and barely any meat (hence the docked star). BBQ pork over rice was good per my husband but he wished there was more sauce. Pickled veggies that came with the two item was good. I was only given one soup even though I had three lunch special meals. Even though the food is good, I felt the lunch special was a bit pricey. Kim Tar has been around since forever. This little restaurant tastes better than Sam Woo in my opinion. Yes, it is a hole in the wall but it's authentic! I really enjoy the marinated pork intestine and their soy sauce chicken. I've also had their seafood noodles and it is just packed with flavor. The Chinese chefs really know how to cook. To this day this restaurant has not changed. I love the fact that they kept everything the same. I would choose Kim Tar over other Chinese restaurants any day! A whole duck KT- ok, what else... Me- hainan chicken over rice KT- okay anything else Me- nope that's it KT- okay 20 minutes I roll up 20 minutes later...tell him I'm here for my pickup, guy gives me a total 5xs what I was expecting...you guessed it, he had me down for 4 ducks! When you enter, it looks like a BBQ to go place combined with a restaurant. It's tiny, but don't be fooled by its looks. My family and I (party of 7 adults plus 2 kids) came on a Sunday night near closing but they still seated us. Since it was almost closing time, we got the last of the roasted duck and hainan chicken. The hainan chicken came with this roasted ginger sauce that was just amazing with it!! The roasted duck wasn't dry and wasn't too oily. All of these dishes same with do chua (pickled veggies); there's also pickled chiles and chili peppers at the table to add to your liking. We also ordered sweet and sour soup and substituted the fish for all shrimp. The man taking our order seemed okay with the substitute and didn't give us any trouble at all. The star of my meal was the fried intestines. OH MY GOODNESS, I've never had such crispy yet chewy pig intestines before! They were fried to a crisp but not overly crispy inside out so it was still soft instead. This also came with a sauce you could dip with. I don't know where to get fried intestines in Orange County where I live, so finding this restaurant while I was in the area was a hit. I'm coming back to satisfy my fried intestines cravings in the future. For our big party we ordered fried rice, gio chao quay (Chinese fried donut, freshly made!!), sweet and sour soup with shrimp, 1/4 order of roast pork, 1/2 order of hainan chicken and 2 orders of fried pig intestines.
