Breakfast Bowl Spicy Egg and Rice and Bacon Amazing!!!
    Sidney-Marion C.

Absolutely amazing! The breakfast bowl was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. Combined with my Nook Coffee, it was one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. Every bite was delicious, and the whole meal came together perfectly. I'm thrilled that Maxwell Chicken is right here in La Palma. I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Known for Hainan Chicken, I ordered food from here through DoorDash to satisfy my wife's craving for char siu pork and my craving for garlicky Hainan Chicken. Unlike many businesses, Maxwell doesn't have huge markups for their Doordash account, despite the fees that Doordash charges them. Really good hainan chicken and char siu pork. Getting a side of fried chicken makes the Hainan chicken rice more enjoyable as you get crispy chicken to contrast the boiled chicken. Rice is ginger forward. Don't forget to season your bites with their provided ginger scallion sauce, chili, and soy for the ultimate flavor bombs.

I've had this place on my "must try" list for some time, so I made a point to start knocking things off that list and here I am! Maxwell Chicken Rice is located in a shared parking lot but it is tiny and easy to miss if you are on the main street. It is next to the animal hospital! Once I found it, I headed in and was immediately greeted by the employee working there. He seemed to be alone, but it is a small place and wasn't busy. Inside is very small, just a few tables for 2 inside, but there is a little dining area outside as well. I ordered the chicken rice plate, which comes with the chicken, rice, broth, 3 sauces, and cucumbers. The food was good; served warm and fresh, and the broth was nice and hot! The employee recommended mixing all 3 sauces together (a spicy sauce, soy sauce, and a ginger sauce). I didn't combine everything but I did try all 3 together and it was good! The spicy sauce REALLY has a kick to it, so be warned if you don't handle spice well! Something to note is that they have a $1 dine in discount. I was ordering takeout so I did not get the discount, but maybe next time I will eat there! Chicken is juicy and flavorful. The rice looks plain but is flavored with the chicken broth! There was a little bit of something green and chopped up that I couldn't identify. I'm not sure what it was but I was eating a little bit of everything together. There seems to be not too many places in SoCal that serve Hainan chicken, so this one is worth trying! It was also a much shorter wait than the other popular chicken rice place I have been to (not to knock either place; both are delicious).

Star of the show Hainan Chicken Plate .. I ordered a large because it is so good! Poached juicy tender chicken served over a fragrant rice.

I randomly walked in the other day to order some food to go to for work. I've lived in Buena Park my whole life and noticed Maxwells Chicken and decided to give it a try. It's located in the small business lot off Valley View and La Palma. Quite literally a hidden gem located in front of the local Pop Eyes. I asked the owner what to order and he highly recommended the Hainan chicken dish. He recommended that I mix the three sauces that came with it together. When I got the chance to sit down and eat it, I must say I completely DEVOURED the dish. The chicken is poached and is tender and flavorful, it's served with a rice that's cooked in chicken broth that is light and not too salty. The sauces that's served with the chicken is a soy, ginger scallion, and chili sauce. It's also served with a small side of chicken broth. I must say I'm quite obsessed! I came the next day and ordered 3 orders to go, and the owner recommended the char siu pork. The pork was tender, sweet, and salty bursting with umami flavors. The owner was so sweet and was kind to give me some fried chicken to try and it was amazing. Crispy on the inside, and just so juicy and tender inside. I don't believe in gate keeping such wonderful food. This is just Asian comfort food anyone can enjoy! I highly recommend!

Maxwell chicken is so delicious, good value and cook extremely fresh and fast.

Maxwell chicken is the best steamed chicken in town with great value price and cooked right in front of you as it is delicious and can't go wrong with it. We come here once or twice a week and I love this place. It comes with soup, a piece of fried chicken and they have their special sauce, which is such a delight when you lace that on top of the chicken and eat it with the warm steam rice

I love the convenience of these rice box for my busy days. So yummy! I had: 1. Hainan chicken 2. Charsiu pork 3. Pepper beef

Maxwell's Hainanese Chicken Rice keeps it simple, and that's exactly the point. The space is minimal and no-frills, but the execution is locked in. The chicken is tender and clean, the rice is fragrant without being oily, and everything feels dialed. My mom loved the fried chicken, she said it was super crispy. Even the broth has personality, with a clear pandan note that actually comes through instead of getting lost. Nothing flashy, just really well done food across the board.

I think the food here is 3.5 but I rounded it to 4 stars because they have good service. We got the fried chicken and Hainan chicken combo. If you dine in, it's $1 off and make sure you select the option on the screen. The chicken is pretty good, but it doesn't taste like savoy or any of the hole-in-the-wall SGV places that serve similiar items. I wouldn't get the fried version ... probably stick with the original type of chicken for Hainan chicken rice. We got the fried version but it took an extra 5 minutes to come out and I didn't get a picture of it :(. Most of the seating is outdoors so I was able to bring my dog. Parking lot huge. All in all, not bad for area.

I stopped by Maxwell Chicken Rice and got the Hainan chicken plate and it was delicious. The chicken was tender, the rice was aromatic, and the ginger-scallion sauce tied everything together perfectly. Portions were just right, and everything tasted fresh. If you're craving a simple, comforting Hainan chicken dish, this spot hits the mark. Not many great hainan chicken places around the area but this one. Would come back again.

was nearby after work and wanted to try something new and this came up! so so good! i got the hainan chicken bowl and dined in since it had $1 off hahaha, came out to $10 ish for a reasonable sized bowl! small shop but is quaint and nice :) the hainan chicken was very soft and yummy! they give a generous amount of rice which was also quite good! they recommended to mix the sambal(?), soy, and ginger sauce which was SO good!! i usually don't like ginger sauces but theirs is nice & not super strong def recommend and will be back :)

Decided to grab some food after pickleball, and this was nearby. I got the large Hainan Chicken Plate, and there was a $1 discount if you dine in. The ordering is done at a kiosk, and you just grab a spot anywhere to sit. There was additional seating outside as well. It is a small little shop, but it was basically empty when I went. The chicken was good and the worker told me about mixing all three of the sauces together, and that tasted very good with the chicken.

We were pleasantly surprised by Maxwell chicken! Was recommended by a coworker to try their hainan chicken. Lots of parking and it's located behind the Popeyes. Upon entering, you order at the kiosk. There's a -$1.00 discount for dining in which is nice. A plus was that they had the Lakers game on. The manager/owner was super nice. Grabbing our utensils and picking up our trays for us. He always gave us a sample of their pork to try. We loved it and will be back to get that next time. The hainan/fried chicken combo came out fairly quickly. They gave us an extra piece which was super nice of them. The fried chicken was seasoned to perfection. It also came out piping hot. Can confidently say it's better than the Popeyes next door. The hainan chicken was really good. The poached chicken was cooked perfectly and juicy. In addition, the sauces and pickled radish/cucumbers were a perfect side. It also came with a side of chicken soup. Soup was flavorful/savory yet simple and comforting. We were so pleased with Maxwell chicken! We've already told a few of our friends and family to try them out.

    Keiko B.

Parking/Location: Easy to find, lots of parking. ADA accessible seating, but not on a cold day as it's pretty narrow inside. Food/Price: We had the fried chicken and Hainan chicken combo which is a staple here! Prices are what you would see for an average meal. I'd say median price, not cheap but not expensive. Service/Ambiance: Helpful and friendly. They have great recommendations and guided us to make a decision.

I'm allergic to seafood. Is there any seafood seasoning in the chicken dishes or marinades? (Fish sauce, bonito, etc?)

There is fish sauce in the soy sauce for the Hainan chicken plate. The soy sauce for dine in and to go is plated on the side. No other seafood or seafood seasonings in the chicken dishes.

I'm allergic to peanuts, is there anything with peanuts?

No. We do not use peanuts or peanut oil in any of our recipes. But please still indicate your allergy/allergies when you order.
