My favourite kimbap varies between their Tuna and Kimchi. The portions are on the bigger size, perfect to share. I do hope to come back when they have Soondae back on their menu, very curious on their take of such a classical Korean dish. Service is great. Food is great. Came here for lunch with my family. The restaurant was full of customers. The server asked us to wait for 10 mins. It was alright. The wait was not long and we got a table very soon. The size of the restaurant was not too big, so a couple servers were good enough to serve the customers. They were quite fast taking orders, bringing food to the tables, and taking care of the customers' needs at the same time. The food was quite good and very authentic. Most of their dishes were spicy. If you couldn't handle the spicy food, you might want to order less spicy. We ordered cold noodles, rice in soup and rice in a hot pot as well as a Korean roll. Everything was quite good. I think the cold noodles were the most spicy dish. The server gave us a stainless steel kettle with soup. They served cups of soup instead of tea. It was quite interesting! The bill was about $35 including tax plus tip. It was quite cheap comparing to other Korean restaurants. This restaurant is located on North Road in Coquitlam. There are many Korean restaurants. Best Kim Bab! The proportion of the rice, pickles, meat, and the mayonnaise to make it smooth is very well-balanced and proportional. We ordered the beef which is my favorite, the tuna which is also good, the crap was imitation crab then was just so-so. I love the soup in the teapot to wash it down. If you love kimbap then this little restaurant is worth checking out! We stopped by this restaurant during the weekend afternoon and were able to be seated right away. Soup was served with a bottle of cold water. This reminded me of my trip a long while back in South Korea. The warm savoury soup was definitely nice during the cold winter weather. We ordered a regular kimbap, rice cake ramen and stone pot rice pork. Food arrived fairly quickly. The kimbap was my favourite because I enjoyed the pickled radish, rice, seaweed, fish cake and veggies. Ramen included egg and rice cakes in an instant noodle mix - comfort food at its Asian finest. I did not try the pork rice, but it looked really good as well. I did not finish the kimbap and was able to pack half of it home for snack the next day. Love this place. It has become one of my usual lunch options when working around. Cheap authentic Korean food, that usually comes fast, usually great service, and in general fast environment. Even if it's packed, you will more likely have a table in 15 minutes or so. No credit, only cash or debit, that's the only down thing I've been able to find in many many visits. read more

This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves authentic Korean food with excellent service. We ordered the tteokbokki with ramen, crab kimbap, and the pork stone pot rice. All were delicious but the tteokbokki is not for the faint of heart in terms of spice levels. Delicious but order with caution. The crab kimbap was very good. The seaweed wrapping of the kimbap ripped a bit, which we didn't notice or care much about, but the owner (?) noticed and provided us with an extra kimbap in replacement which we thought was very generous! I came with my family of 6 including grandparents. Despite being a large party, they had multiple round tables that just fit all of us. Though we didn't get the chance to try any kimbap, the rest of the menu was amazing to try. We got an order of gamjatang, stone pot pork rice, naengmyeon, and soon dae to share and it was a filling meal. Starting off with the soon dae, it was tastier than I had expected but maybe because we had no basis to compare to, it seemed to be on the pricier side - but to be fair, its preparation may take a lot of effort. The stone pot rice was a good mixture of vegetables, rice, & pork and was able to deliver the classic crispy rice at the bottom of the stone pot. This was also our first time trying naengmyeon which definitely did not let us down. The highlight of our lunch here was the gamjatang for sure - it had a number of pork bones, and was perfect served with rice. I will definitely be coming back here to try more of the menu, particularly the kimbap. read more

As a Korean, I must say this is equal to the stuff back home. All the kimbap is made to order, the sesame oil is fragrant, the rice is perfect, and generous fillings. My faves things to order here are the bulgogi kimbap, tuna kimbap, and the spicy pork hot stone rice bowl. I always end up getting rolls to go. Eat them the same day! The kimbap from Kimbap Cheonguk is as good as it gets. I live in Vancouver, near UBC actually, and I occasionally drive to Coquitlam just to get my kimbap fill from this restaurant. Every kimbap is so amazingly juicy and flavourful! And they're HUGE! I'm full after half a roll. But that doesn't stop me from getting several kimbaps every time I make the trip down. What really keeps me coming back is the incredible freshness. I know for a fact that each kimbap is made to order with the freshest ingredients. I've tried pretty much every kimbap on the menu, and you really can't go wrong with any of them. My personal favourite is the tuna kimbap! I've had the ddock bok ki as well and it is also very delicious. It has great flavour and enough heat! Kimbap Cheonguk is an excellent little dining establishment with awesome food. I was in the area and finally able to try this place out! Kimbap is one of those great snacks (sometimes meals..depending how many you eat) that keeps you satisfied. I ordered a kimchi kimbap to go and it only took about 5 minutes for them to make my order. Super quick and the cashier was friendly! It was actually quite busy inside with people dining in, and a line up outside for people waiting for a table. The kimbap had a good ratio of rice to filling. They definitely don't skimp on their filling with plenty of kimchi, some carrots, pickled daikon, fishcake, and spinach. It was flavourful and the kimchi had the right amount of spiciness to it. As I write this review and munch away at my kimbap, I'm wishing I had ordered another one. They have other types such as the original (fishcake), bugolgi beef, tuna, crab meat, or cheese. Came here on a Saturday evening around 7pm and got seated right away as the place was not too busy. Close to Lougheed station, this place offers a homey feel and was decently priced with regular Korean dishes available (kimbap, ramen, etc.). I went specifically for the kimbap and it was as expected - $4.95, big roll, and good overall. My friend and I also ordered their seafood ddock bok ki ($22.95) and found that it was definitely enough food for two people since the cheese and soup made the dish quite heavy on the stomach. Overall, the food was not bad for its price point but as my friend said, if you're in the area, there are lots of options and bigger, more known restaurants to try. We always come here for the "Neng Myun" or cold buckwheat noodles. The noodles are very long and the waiter will offer to help you cut those. They're chewy but delicious. Upon seating, the restaurant immediately serves you with a special tasty garlicky soup broth - I believe it is pork bone broth or beef broth - really really tasty and it's served in a teapot. You drink it in a cup not a bowl and no spoons. We come all the way here to eat this from downtown when we're craving this very specific and traditional Korean dish. Always a frequent favourite of mine. This place provides friendly and quick service with delicious korean snacking food and traditional comfort foods. This particular trip I had the Al bob, regular Kimbap and Ddock Bok Ki. There food is always done fresh and hot. Flavour is delightful and spicy. For the Al bob a stone rice dish you get two different sides of sauces make your prefect flavour combo. This place is a must try for korean style foods with great warm service. As the store name says it really is a Kimbap Cheonguk (Kimbap Heaven)! I love the kimbap here! For some people, they can be full from eating just one because there are around 12 pieces per each roll. I tend to eat 2 for 3...ya I eat quite a bit. My favourite has to be the cheese kimbap (creamy and more filling then you would think) and second with be the beef kimbap. I would warn not to get the tuna kimbap because it's dry. As the drink, they serve the hot version of their cold noodle soups instead of tea which I thought was very unique. Many of my friends like it but I personally do not prefer it. ASIDE from kimbap, I do NOT recommend ordering other items(therefore, the 4 stars). Used to eat at this little shop selling popular Korean street foods almost daily when I worked in the area a few years ago. You never miss a good thing till it's gone! It's always a treat to come back for a visit and thankfully, the quality has stayed consistent since. The kimbap rolls here are the best I've had in town; at other places, the seaweed is stale and chewy but here it's always fresh and crisp, and they're packed with filling (the tuna being my fave). The rabokki m always hits the spot with ramen, rice cake, and other goodies swimming in an addictive sweet and spicy sauce. And just in case there weren't enough carbs, I also got the albap (fish roe rice) which was a fave winter-time lunch staple for me back in the day (their cold noodles are the bomb during summer). Once again the rice was just the right consistency with a hint of sesame oil. The fillings were changed up a little bit from last time and this time included carrots, cucumber, danmuji, and egg in the plain version and some bulgogi in addition in the beef version. The nori was nicely roasted with a hint of sesame oil rubbed on the outside. The rolls are still quite large and very reasonably priced at $2.99 for the plain and $3.50 for the beef. We (senior couple) arrived at the restaurant at 10am, and at this time, were only able to choose what to order from their list of kimbaps, and three other dishes (two ramens, and one rice dish). As indicated in my previous review, their full menu of offerings is not available until after 11am. This was not a problem for us, we were well-aware of this going in, and were prepared to only have the limited menu at the time we chose to dine there. We were hungry, and knew they would have something for what we were still calling "breakfast", and were sure not disappointed!! Haven't had a good kim bab in a long while....probably the last time was from the H-Mart on Robson and that was...well not very good lol. The price here for kim bab ranges from 3.45-3.99 which is VERY reasonable and they're pretty big! If you get maybe 2 or 3, that's an entire meal right there! I got the regular kim bab (3.45) and it was tasty! Surprisingly, there's no meat in it as it's been replaced by tofu, yet you won't ever notice! It's very well marinated and combined with the excellent seaweed wrapping and the rice with the perfect consistency, it's a damn satisfying little snack/meal! You also get a little silver tea pot that has not tea, but soup! It was very tasty in its own light. kind of reminded me of pork broth with a strong ricey taste to it. Perfect little spot for a quick lunch or dinner. This place is not fancy but has very authentic Korean food for great price. Their menu include kimbap, rice cakes, cold noodles, some hot stone soups and hot stone rice bowls. Today we ordered beef kimbap, rice cakes and fish ball soup. Kimbap is my favorite for under $4! I'd eat it everyday for lunch if it's close to my work place. My bf is a huge fan of their rice cake with the sweet spicy sauce. I personally find it too sweet though. The fishball soup is pretty straight forward with some different types of fish balls and a couple of rice cake in a very flavorful soup base. I also really enjoy the garlic soup they serve in a kettle instead of tea. One thing to note is they serve 2 little complimentary side dishes as supposed to 4 or 5 in most Korean restaurants. Seriously one of the best Korean places I've been to. Unlike basically all of the Korean restaurants I've been to, it has a unique beef bibimbap and ra bokki which is to die for omg. I couldn't stop eating the ra bokki even though it was really spicy for me. It's definitely a must eat here! They also have a soup that they serve in a kettle at the beginning and its good as well!
