While out of town in Savannah, I wanted to hunt down some good local eats. I ended up trying out Kimchi 2 Restaurant. I will preface this with telling you, I have high expectations of any Korean food I eat. I grew up on home cooked Korean food and I love it. I know when I find the real thing and when I find the cheap knock offs. I will say when I walked in and called out a annyeonghaseyo and the server looked at me confused, I almost turned tail. I'm glad I stuck it out though. Food--9.5/10. To start, the drink selection is very limited. They do offer some Korean drinks but very limited on them and any other beverage. That's the only detriment I had to this meal. The mandu was fantastic crisp on the outside juicy and flavorful inside. Just the perfect yaki mandu. The dolsot bibimbap was top notch. It came out blazing hot and sizzling and given I have hearing issues that even I could hear a bit of the sizzle tells you it was really sizzling. So when you dig down into the bottom, there's that gorgeous crispy rice at the base of the dish. It came out with four perfect banchan. The kimchi was delightful and well fermented. The potato is always one of my favorite and I adored it. The oi kimchi was so crunchy and tangy and the little shredded cabbage with what tasted like a gochujang mayo was simple but delightful and had me wanting more. If I had one complaint aside from the limited beverages is that I like my bibimbap sauce to be a bit more tangy and a larger amount. Regardless, I'll be paying them a visit again very soon because there are so many amazing authentic Korean dishes on their menu that I can't wait to try. I only wish I lived closer. Service--8/10. The young lady who was serving was very attentive. That being said my only thing lacking is it was only her and as several more people arrived, she was less able to attend to the customers. She was very nice, polite and served as quick as she could, but as I said more people came in as my meal progressed, and I would've liked to have been able to ask for a little more bibimbap sauce. Ambiance--8/10. The exterior of the building leaves a lot to be desired. It's a very small strip of shops with very limited parking. However, where the exterior is lacking the interior is pleasant, clean and inviting. All in all, I would be back over and over again if I lived in the area and if you're in Savannah and you like Asian food and you have not tried this, you are missing out. read more

Yall when I said disappointed is an understatement. I don't leave reviews unless I really truly feel like I was slighted. Me and my mom order two soups. Mine was fine, hers was not. She let the waiter know immediately that she didn't like it after taking one sip of the broth. He stood there and asked did she want soy sauce, she said no I want something else. He walked away and never came back. She pushed her bowl to the side and waited for him to come back he never did. I had already finished my food so we came to the conclusion that he wasn't going to give her the opportunity to order anything else so we asked for the bill, of course expecting her soup to be removed being that she didn't like it and wasn't given a chance to get something else. He AT FIRSG refused to remove it. My mom said I'm going to pay cash but I'm not including that soup it doesn't taste good. She leave to get cash out the car, I stay and he said he's calling the cops I said ok good we'll wait right here for them so we can resolve this. I guess when he realized I was waiting he brings back a new receipt without her item on it. I get up to pay since it was corrected and my mom says leave a $6 tip. This man gone say I don't want your tip. Oh baby you don't want my black tip or black dollars or black business. That was rude and unprofessional. If you was hesitant about removing a $13 soup you must need the $6 tip. I let him know he was racist and that must have struck a nerve because he raised his voice saying not to come back. BLACK PLL OF SAVANNAH please be aware of this place. We were the only black ppl there and we were ignored and threatened with police as if we did something wrong. I ordered food through Door Dash. The food was delicious. I had the Beef Bulgogi with steamed rice. Although the meal came with kimchi cucumber I ordered a side of it as well. I'm glad that I did. Everything was fresh and quite tasty. The delivery was great as well. read more

We were there a few minutes before 2 and was told lunch special is over. Cheap shot !!! We ordered the bulgogi plate and it was filled with more veggies than anything. Filled with chopped cabbage and carrots. That's a first and horrible .. If restaurant breaks at 3 o'clock keep lunch available till then . Then dinner at 5 when they reopen. Just senseless .. I first visited this restaurant when it was new in this location. At first, the restaurant was lacking something. Today, the restaurant is named KIMCHI 2. To conclude, the restaurant has improved a lot. The tteokbokki came with ramen noodles, which would appeal to Koreans and Native Americans alike. The bibimbap had enough rice and ingredients to make it very filling. The Yukgaejang is also above average in flavor despite its appearance. read more

Currently they are only doing online orders for takeout. It's worth it! Please don't let that stop you. I put in the order and it was about 25 min. It was ready when I got there. I got 2 orders of the lunch spicy bulgogi combo. 2 rice punch drinks and an order of cabbage kimchi. I requested additional meat because the portion looked small and it was worth it. I visited this place once about a year ago and then each time I'm in town it always looks like they're closed. But this time they had the open sign on. So I went in and talked to the waiter and he said that they're closed from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. or something like that. And that is literally the only downside of this entire restaurant. The staff are amazing and the food here is absolutely top-notch! The ordering is very straightforward, and the description on the menu is very easy to understand what you're getting. Went to Kimchi with some friends for lunch all I can say is WOW!!!! Ive been twice and they have yet to disappoint, the first I went it was good, this time it was GREAT! This is by far my favorite Korean Restaurant in Savannah. Easily the best one ive been too. I ordered the lunch special, spicy beef bulgogi and fried rice. The beef bulgogi was perfect! A lot of flavor, the perfect amount of spice, tender, and just very good. The lunch special came with the meat, a choice of white or fried rice, and fried dumpling. I anticipate giving this restaurant another start when I can go back and try more of their offerings, but for today I had the spicy shrimp combo with steamed rice. I received two small fried beef dumplings, japchae clear noodles and some minor condiments with it. Everything was tasty, but the sever asked what heat level I wanted and the "mild" was a little underwhelming. Overall, though, it was a nice surprise and I WILL go back for more. read more

I ventured outside of the normal downtown Savannah restaurants thinking that it would be a bit more authentic. I was quite disappointed. I gave it 3 stars due to the followings: 1. Location: a bit out of the way from where we stayed, but not too bad. Seems a bit like the unfavorable part of town, but I didn't mind. I run faster than my husband anyway. 2. Price: I thought the prices were decent. 3. Service: they were actually really accommodating... very nice. 4. Food: this is where the stars fell. We ordered a seafood pancake, but it was very doughy. I'm used to the thin, crispy version of a seafood pancake. I also ordered a noodle soup which was kind of bland. I wish the favoring was more prevalent. Two words, Dolsat Bibimbop! I've only came and ate here twice but both times have been pretty fair. My friend that brought me here the first time said that it's been the closest thing to authentic Korean food that he's had since he as stationed in Korea for military. I don't know since I've never had truly authentic (although I would love to try it!) but I say Kimchi2 is pretty good! The first time I came I chose to get the lunch special since I didn't know any better and it was very good. Reasonable priced, came with meat rice and veggies. Kimchi keeps the banchan coming also which is great bc I could fill up on their kimchi and spicy bean sprouts! ROUND 2: coming here I got the Dolsat Bibimbop bowl and mannnn it was the delicious. I've ordered a Bibimbop one other time and I loved it but this one topped it! Maybe because it was Dolsat or that it was more authentic, I'm not sure; but I loved it! I wanted to order another one it was so good! It came out sizzling and stayed hot the entire time eating it. I would continue to throw the kimchi and other spicy veggies in there just because I love it but the pure taste of the ingredients prior was enough to satisfy! I almost didn't want to put the sauce on there but once I got down to mostly rice I drenched it. Kimchi has always been an enjoyable experience and always leave satisfied! Really enjoyed my first visit to Kimchi 2. Got the steamed beef dumplings, and they were fresh, hot and delicious. Followed that with hot pot bibimbap, and it was great. Fried egg on top was runny and yummy, and I enjoyed trying all of the banchan. Last but not least, all of the servers were incredibly nice and attentive, asking if I needed anything. They were all pleasant as well. I will be back and bringing friends, KDos, bank on it! 1/10/2020 first yelp update so not sure im doing it right, but i still love this place. food and service are consistently excellent, and I'm here regularly. One of the owners of the Korean grocery stores once told me that the Korean population of Savannah was about 400 and now if you add me, 401. Not sure where she got that number from, but if that is any indication, Kimchi 2 is only one of two Korean restaurants in Savannah. Looking at the menu, they have a decent selection of dishes where you can get your Korean basics like Ddukpokki (spicy rice cakes, a popular Korean street food), Seafood Pancake, Bibimbap (get the Dolsot Bibimbap, the one in the stone bowl), the various bulgogis (chicken, beef) and noodle dishes like Japchae and Jjampong (Seafood noodle), different stews and soups and even larger type of stews for 2 people. I was surprised to see Mul Naengmyun which is a cold noodle soup dish that is usually more popular among Koreans. Parking - center lot parking. Plenty when we arrived around 5:30pm on Saturday. Service - we were immediately greeted and seated. Our waitress was very attentive and came to check on us often. Vibe - The restaurant is nice and clean with a combination of old and new vibe. The decor has traditional elements like the theatre happy and sad face wooden masks and 3 different flat screen TVs all showing some sort of K-pop which were all showing content not suitable for our small children, but that probably was just bad timing, because not all K-pop is provocative! Nice to see the menu complete with both English translations and the Korean names in Hangul (so the Korean people like me know what they are trying to translate). What we ate - My kids had the bulgogi plate to share which came with a bowl of rice. Bulgogi is a marinated beef dish and I felt that this didn't seem marinated long enough for the flavors to really soak in but my kids didn't seem to notice. They finished it all between the 2 of them. My husband had the Dolsot Bibimbap. Always get the Dolsot when available! Unless you don't like temperature hot food, when you see Bibimbap or the Dolsot Bibimbap, always go for the Dolsot one! It comes in a stone bowl that has been heated and the Bibimbap arrives sizzling. They had all the basics of a Bibimbap but feel like the Bibim sauce was a tad runny for my taste. I had the Jjamppong which is a spicy seafood noodle dish. The squid in the dish was super tough and the noodles a bit overcooked. The meals come with 6 types of ban chan (complimentary side dishes to accompany your meal). Thumbs up to the number of different types! Usually the average number is 4 at most Korean restaurants. There were kimchi, bean sprouts, stewed potatoes, spicy cucumber, seaweed, spicy julienned radish. Pricing - Very reasonably priced for all dishes. Kid Friendly - they do not have a Kids specific menu, but you can never go wrong with the beef bulgogi or beef galbi (short ribs). The other meats are spicy. Another great choice for kids is Japchae, the sweet potato starch noodles and they also have beef dumplings and fried fish and if all else fails, there is Fried rice or just plain old steamed rice. There are high chairs and booster seats available. Considering there are 2 Korean restaurants in Savannah (and maybe one in Hinesville?), that is definitely better than NO Korean restaurants so I will take it! Pop-y atmosphere in an old strip mall. Ask for help with menu if you have allergies. They were playing K-pop when I entered so that was nice! Located on the edge of a strip mall, it doesn't look like much on the outside. I always got Dolsot Bibimbap at my old haunt in Cincinnati. I figured I'd order the same here to compare. I told the waiter I can't eat soy sauce and he confirmed the Bibimbap shouldn't have it. (I can't get gluten.) He later came back when he realized that all their meats are marinated in soy sauce or something similar. I opted for just a veggie bibimbap. It came out great but I kept adding more spice. After checking into a hotel nearby, we searched for a restaurant based on rating using Uber Eats. This korean restaurant popped the first. We ordered tofu soup with pork, bulgogi and tteok-bokki. They arrived in 30 minutes to the front desk. We are so pleased with speedy service and how well packed the meals were. Soon tofu was mild spicy and savory. Bulgogi, beef marinated with soy sauce, sugar, etc., was well cooked. Tteok-bokki was good but there were like three rice cake and the rest of it was ramen and oden. Meals come with a bowl of rice and side dishes. Steam rice was good, but fried rice was grossly oily. Recommend you choose steamed rice. Price was reasonable. Regardless, overall, it was an excellent meal for delivery. P.S. this was our first time using Uber Eats. Be aware that there is a delivery fee of $0.99, service charge of $4.99, and a tip (we did like 18%). read more

The food here is amazing! I am obsessed with the Dolsat Bibimbap. It's so much fun to eat! I love how crispy the rice gets and all of the vegetables are delicious. The gochujang sauce is so flavorful. Beef Bulgogi is seasoned very well. The side dishes are awesome and unlimited. The kimchi and clear noodles are my favorite! We found this restaurant via google maps. What a delight. Greeter and waiter promptly sat us. Menu is clearly understandable. Lunch items are plentiful. Flavoring and taste are delicious. When it says spicy they mean spicy and will explain the heat. We love hot, spicy food so not disappointed. Most items are not spicy....by request. The best Korean food in Savannah. Located in an old strip mall on Montgomery Crossroads. The staff is friendly and attentive. The lunch specials are great and really inexpensive.
