The food was delicious, the interior was warm and welcoming, and the service was great as well. Definitely would go again:)

came here once hungover asl and it absolutely cured my soul. came here again on a colddd night and it warmed me right back up. NOMd: - kimchi silken tofu w. pork. so so good! i got the medium spice and it was perfect. the egg is raw so make sure to crack it in as soon as you get your bowl. i only like to put in the yolk. my mom is picky and she loved it. - grilled chicken. omfg the tenderness on these are unreal. i wasn't sure if i was gonna like the char on it but UGH im salivating. - grilled beef. perfect bulgogi flavor the sweetness is very balanced. - pajeon. these were phenom. the soy dipping sauce complimented it perfectly. service, etc.: the first time i came here it was during the afternoon and we were in and out within the hour. the second time was last week and the wait was about 30 min. but i would wait forever if i had to. they bring the food out so fast. kimchi tofu house is the real deal man. authentic. delicious. NOMYUM to the max!!

I absolutely love this place. It's right next to all the big sports stadiums so I love getting a bite here before heading to a game. The place itself is pretty small, don't expect accommodations for a huge group, but it honestly adds to the "hole in the wall" restaurant vibe. It really feels like an authentic Asian restaurant. If the servers are ushering you out as quickly as possible and head straight to business when serving, you know the food is about to hit. They always serve their kimchi stew boiling, and you get to crack your own egg! They also have such good bibimbap.

Always love going here especially if I'm craving kimchi tofu stew specifically!! They give you options for spice level! I also love the chicken dish and the jeon. Food has always been tasty which deserve the 5 stars. Only thing really for me is the space being very tiny and sometimes you have to get seated with other people. However, it does add to the authentic appeal!

The last time I visited it was packed so we ended up ordering to go. I really liked the tteokbokki so I figured I'd try and dine in. I got the opportunity to take an early lunch on Friday so I decided to go to Kimchi Tofu House. I got there at about 11 right when they open. I wasn't the first one in and around 11:30 all the tables were filled. I ordered the seafood tofu stew and it was spicy and flavorful and delicious. It came out piping hot along with an egg to add in. The tteokbokki was just as good as it was when I first had it. Waitresses are very warm and friendly, service was fast but because there isn't a lot of seating it was hard not to bump into someone. Nonetheless, now that I've gotten an opportunity to eat here more than once I understand why it's so popular around campus. Highly recommend!

Kimchi Tofu House is on my shortlist of favorite restaurants not just in the Twin Cities, but everywhere. Delicious, consistent food has had me coming back here at least every month and half since I was introduced to it in my first few weeks of college. There's a lot to love about this small shop nestled into the University campus, and over the years I've tried everything on the menu. If you haven't been, I hope this is the review the gets you to give it a shot. But first let's break it down. This place is dialed in. At Tofu House, it's all about the silken tofu stew (sundubu-jjigae). This stew hits your table in the cast pot it was cooked in-- steaming, boiling, and fiery red if you turn up the heat. Heat level is a matter of comfort of course, and you can choose what feels right. Heed this caution though--they don't play when it comes to spice. Spicy is SPICY. Medium is a good balance and what I usually order, but I wouldn't recommend going below mild or you'll lose the flavor that makes this soup so special. Order a stew and you'll receive a raw egg before your magma arrives. When that stew comes out, crack the egg on the cauldron and let it boil in front of you. Don't hesitate to do this long--you need that heat. There's a range of stews on the menu, but I stay loyal to the classic beef or go dumplings if I've got a little extra appetite. Tofu house's secret weapon is their grill, serving up sizzling plates of beef, spicy pork, and chicken bulgogi. The pork is the way to go here-- I've had graduated friends fly back to the city dreaming of this stuff. Luckily you don't have to make a choice between this and the stew. Tofu house's lunch and dinner combos let you indulge in both. You'll get a ton a food for the price--~$16 for lunch and ~$20 for dinner. Note that the stew you'll get with the combo is a bit smaller. But don't fret, I don't leave my plate empty often, but even I've brought back some pork and rice for the next day's lunch. If you want the full experience, this is the way to go. Now a couple how-tos about this sweet spot. This place is small. I'm talking seating for no more than 15, and that's including the communal tables. Yes, you might join someone else's table here, but it's part of the charm. The place is busy even when school is out, so plan for an early dinner or late lunch. They're strict about their closing time too. Don't expect to stay a minute after. Service here is all about speed. You might get two minutes to look at the menu, and don't be surprised when your check comes out after only a few bites. But ask for the time you need, or for suggestions, and they'll be happy to help. A lot flies in the face of regular restaurant service, but don't take it personally--there's a line outside waiting for stew too. Now go already!

second time here and it never disappoints! it is a small restaurant so seating can be hard to get if it's chilly outside but service is quick! we ordered and our food came out within 10 minutes. everything is so delicious and filling - perfect for the chilly weather.

Such a small location that packs a lot of flavor. I ordered the kimchi tofu stew which was delicious. Crack the egg in right away. I like to mix in the rice with it. The kimbop was great as well. Derive was fast and efficient. Since it's near the U of M you will have your pay and find street parking.

Always enjoy coming back to get a silken tofu stew here. Many different options for the stew and always love their side dishes! Can be very busy at times at the restaurant but service is usually good. The lunch and dinner special are great deals as well to try!

I frequent this place whenever I am in the area for school, which is three times a year and three times in 4 days . It's my go to restaurant around the area which also has a lot of Chinese restaurants. There is another Korean restaurant down the road but this place has more to offer with the combo with soup not to mention the spicy pork bulgogi is just mouth watering. For the price, you can't beat this meal. The place is small, probably about 22 seat capacity, so if you're a big group, either be prepared to wait or go on a time where it's not rush dining. They do close for lunch, so do keep that in mind, around 3 pm? And you can tell that this is the best in the area when everything around is empty and this is the place that's consistently packed, maybe except for Chipotle next door that has half the student crowd.

Kimchi Tofu House is a classic. I've been going since I was a college student at the U and they were cash only (they accept card now) and it's such a consistent experience every time. Kimchi Tofu House specializes in Korean dishes and is mostly known for their variety of soups, or chigaes. I love getting the combo where you can choose your chigae and pair it with your choice meat bolgogi. It comes with rice and all the banchan. The restaurant itself is definitely small with tables squished together and you may end up at a communal table but that is def part of the experience. Come early to snag a table otherwise, you may have to wait a bit. You can also order your meals to-go. Otherwise, if you eat in, they will seat you with a menu and take your order. After you are done eating, they give you your receipt and you take it to the register whenever you are ready.

This is my second time here ( first time was at least 5+ years ago), located on East Bank of U of M campus. Place is very small fitting about 20 people max. Be prepare to share tables if you come with 1-2 people. There is paid street parking but usually full during school days so may need to make a few loop around. They serve Costco water bottles here instead of tap water which is ice. We both got the lunch combo. 1. Beef tofu soup with beef bulgogi 2. Seafood tofu soup with pork bulgogi. Each soup comes with a raw egg for you to crack it in . Soup comes in a hot stone and sizzling hot but make sure you don't waste to much time taking photos and not crack your eggs because it will unsizzle pretty fast. I got the medium spice level and it was spicy but the mild was not spicy enough. Lol. So medium spicy it is. Between the beef and pork sizzling plate, my boyfriend and I enjoyed the pork more. It was much more flavorful and delicious. The beef tasted a little bland. -rice cake appetizer dish. My first impression was, omg that's a lot of broth and the color is not as red as I've seen before. However, don't like the color and soupy look deceive this dish. It was soooo good! The broth tasted so good by itself or with rice. I got addicted to drink the soup. It came with only 3 sides but we loved it so got a few replenish. Hopefully the waiters weren't too mad but hey it was good. - they still use pen and paper for your check and unfortunate for us, we were overcharged due to illegible handwriting. The cashier thought a 1 was a 7 so we got charged $6 extra. I had a feeling it was going to happen as well. But since service was good and we got a few replenish of sides we added that difference to the additional tip we already gave them. Definitely will be back especially for lunch. Such a good price for portion.

My favorite restaurant near the U of M. I've been to Korea and this restaurant is pretty comparable to a lot of the food I had there!

Ask the Community - Kimchi Tofu House

Are they open for dine in? If so, are reservations required?

We went back in August and even though they preferred reservations we dined in without one.

Are they open during COVID for takeout? What are their order and pickup practices?
