Our go to place watery time, year after year that we visit Maui. We love the view on the water, cocktails and appetizers in the bar level and our special birthday dinners in the upstairs restaurant. The food and drinks were really good! I must say with its location on the water, it was definitely one of the best experiences we had dining in Maui. We were a party of six and had a late reservation (8pm), but the service was lacking. We sat there 10 minutes before someone came to greet us. They serve carrot muffins and he said he would bring some he brought waters over, but they didn't come until right before our food got there. They brought us an appetizer that we said we didn't want, they brought my soup (which I asked for first) at the same time as my filet and didn't bring my sister-in-law's salad. Our entrees were getting cold, which was frustrating, so I didn't even finish the chowder (it was SO GOOD). I ordered a drink, which they forgot about and I ended up waiting 20 min for it and had to ask twice. I know people are short staffed because of COVID, but it was slow in there (an hour before they closed) so I felt like for the price we were paying, it would be better. Here's the thing, while my first experience might not have been 100%, I think they have a good thing going and I would still go back and recommend this place. The food is fantastic and sometimes there's just an off night. They have something for everyone on the menu. It's definitely worth checking out but make reservations! We sat at the bar and neither bartender made us feel welcome, one actually was wearing sunglasses the whole time and it was overcast. After an extended delay we ordered drinks and food that arrived at least a half hour later. The bartender admitted that he forgot to put the order in.... We did short tip and as we walked out of the restaurant the bartender heckled us! This restaurant on Front Street in Lahaina is so popular, and was recommended to us. We arrived with dinner time with no reservation, and we're told the wait would be over an hour. But we found two seats at the bar right away. Sitting at the bar doesn't give you the same ocean view as a lot of regular tables there, but we did get really quick service and it was fun to watch cocktails made up close. We were walking through downtown Lahaina and wanted something to eat, and specifically wanted to grab a table by the ocean. Kimo's offered that and a few fresh-fish dishes, so it seemed the perfect choice. And indeed that Oceanside table was amazing. The only reason I'm giving this joint a two instead of a one is because of that view and that experience. Because boy oh boy was the food terrible. I decided to order the Fish Sandwich ("Fire grilled, Waipoli Farms lettuce, vine ripened tomatoes, locally baked brioche bun") and it certainly looked promising when it arrived to the table. But one bite told me that something had gone seriously awry during the preparation of the fish. The various components were fine, but the fish had been overcooked to an extent I've never experienced before. It was completely tough and chewy and not flaky at all. It was so rubbery that I had trouble comfortably chewing each mouthful. It was remarkable, actually, especially given that this place is right on the beach and claims that their seafood is "what made Kimo's famous." I'm still flabbergasted at how bad this sandwich was. One of THE BEST restaurant experiences of my short 30 years on Earth! My wife made reservations for 6:15pm which was perfectly aligned with the Magical Maui sunset! Our table was upstairs along the balcony which gave us a magnificent view of the Pacific! We started with Ginger Mules that were absolutely DELICIOUS! In fact, I ordered two! The Crab cakes were so fresh! I'm not typically a fan of crab cakes because I don't like too much breadcrumb but these were more crab than crumb so I was so happy! My wife ordered the Filet Mignon - she ordered it to be cook medium-well but it came more medium but she decided to be an adult and eat it the way it's suppose to be enjoyed lol! Im going to be bold and give Kimo's five stars because I was really impressed when I ate here, particularly after eating at some of the other restaurants I'd always thought were good and found underwhelming this last trip. Kimos, on the other hand, over delivered. First of all, make reservations. We had them, and we were actually seated on time (unlike Leilani's). We also had a GREAT view of the sunset. Like, superb. The couples sitting along the railing had the best view, but they were friendly enough to let me hover over them to snap photos. What impressed me most was the menu; it had the widest range of good sounding food that I encountered in Hawaii (living in RI turned me into a food snob! I'm sorry! It's all those JWU grads). Starting with the drinks, on which I could not make a decision, they all sounded great. I ordered a coconut ginger martini and my dad got a mango martini of some sort. Both were delicious, and not that alcoholic. It's probably better to go for wine if you want to get the most bang for your buck. For dinner, I just ordered starters and sides (ahi sashimi and the Brussels Sprouts and sweet potato hash...I've had better but I liked it), and my parents loved their fish. I hate to say this but my dish here was the worst thing I had in Maui and probably the most expensive. I had the Mac nut encrusted fish, I think the waitress said the fish was opah. The flavor was terrible, I wonder if the kitchen staff were angry or what that day since Kimo has good reviews mostly. Flavor was like old socks. The free muffins were sooo oily, no thanks. The ambience is super loud and we were placed more inside the restaurant by the kitchen. I'd normally object but it was so busy the night we came. A wait staff also told us to go find our own chair downstairs when we asked for a higher chair for the baby. I explained this to another waiter and a manager heard and helped us personally. Kimo's just got upgraded to 5 stars. I love this place. We often end up here when in Lahaina. The constellations aligned and we got there in that tiny sliver of a window (4:45-5:30) for the Chef's Tasting Menu which is not always available so call in advance if you are interested. It's a challenge to make it. You can sit here, but not there, but over on that side to the right but not upstairs? Either way the stars aligned, we at ate the bar to keep it simple. The hostess did confirm that we were happy as she knew my head exploded with all the rules. The chef's Tasting Menu is $27.00 each for three courses. I loved my overdressed (when will I ever learn to request light dressing) Caesars salad and my beau's chowder was outstanding. Our entree's were surf and turf (shrimp) and baked mahi mahi in garlic butter sauce. Both entrees were really tasty. I would go fish again and again. Our desserts were both fab. I went for the trio of sorbets (coconut, mango guava) that was served in a darling ice like tray. The cheesecake was a winner with a pineapple sauce to mewl over. Any day is a better day when hanging out at Kimo's. The views, the food, the service all give this joint one of my rare 5 stars. read more

We all ended up getting the fish of the day (Monchong) topped with lobster tail. The dish was amazing. Fish was flakey and moist, lobster tail was on point. One of our friends was in town with his family and after a long day hiking and exploring the island we all had worked up an appetite and didn't want to have to cook. They were staying in Ka'anapali so after browsing through some reviews on Yelp, we decided to come to Kimo's. We called them just in case to make sure they had tables available. Luckily there were and we were able to be seated right away when we got there. The restaurant is huge with 2 levels which I never knew. We were seated upstairs and while it was dark, I could still see the ocean from our seats. I can only imagine how lovely the sunset would have been had we arrived earlier in the evening! Most of us went with fish, the baked mahi which we all agreed was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. I had a lava flow with my meal and that was tasty as well. You also cannot leave Kimo's without trying their famous hula pie so we ordered that and everyone shared a scrumptious bite. Macadamia nut ice cream on a chocolate cookie crust topped with chocolate fudge, whipped cream, and more macadamia nuts... uhm, you really cannot go wrong! People should come to Kimo's just for the hula pie! You won't be disappointed. My only complaint is that it's a little dark in the restaurant. I'm all for the romantic ambiance, but I'm also the type of person that likes to see my food when I eat. Definitely wish the lighting was better! Would not recommend this place. The lava flow cocktail drink I got was way too sweet. The pulled pork wrap had too much sauce on it and also too sweet. The worse part was the bad fried fish & chips. I took 1 bite and it was mushy and funky tasting! No thanks! I literally jogged to the restroom to chuck it since I didn't want to swallow it and neither did I want to spit it out with company watching at my table. I alerted the waitress to the issue and she went on a spiel about how their restaurant has one of the freshest fish in the world and that they only carry the best fish for their customers. Hands down one of my favorite spots to grab a great dinner in Lahaina. The food was absolutely terrific and the views were simply gorgeous. Watching the sunset with live music being played on the ukulele really sets the vibe up. My kid got the Fish & Chips, which was made with Marlin. I had to take a bite as I've never had Marlin before and it was great. My wife went with the Filet Mignon, which she said was absolutely delicious. The salad was super fresh and by far one of the best I ever had and such a beautiful presentation! The Mahi Mahi is a must have as well, Kimo's certainly does that right!! The best meal we had in Maui! So good, we had to come back 2 nights in a row. The service is kind of slow, but they are super packed so I completely understand. The food is definitely worth the wait. They start you off with the moist carrot bread, which is basically carrot cake. The salty butter they serve it with is the perfect match to the sweet muffins. We got the parmesan crusted fish and it was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had! Also got the prime rib and it was super tasty and had lots of leftovers. The ribs we also do good and tender. What an amazing place to enjoy food and drinks, right on the water in Lahaina! This spot is truly magic when the sun sets, and it is so fun that they serve their Mai Tais in tiki head glasses. This time we had dinner and I enjoyed a fantastic ahi tuna which was panko crusted with just the right amount of spices. When you visit try to make a reservation between 4:00pm-5:00pm in the bar area downstairs. They have live music and you'll have plenty of time to enjoy your dinner and watch the sunset! read more
