Did extensive research on the meals we decided to eat out. Since things are so expensive it was important to make sure we were spending on places that were worth it. Kimo's was just ok to me. The one item that impressed me was the hula pie! It was huge and delicious. Big enough for all 8 of us to try. The portions on everything else was pretty small. We expected high prices and small portions but the flavors weren't really as good as expected. The prime rib I think it was ( which ever beef dish they serve in limited supply each night) was the least liked dish on the table. A great meal for our party of four. We popped in the day before our reservation to adjust the the time for sunset. The host staff was friendly and accommodating by moving our table time. We could request a waterside table only when we arrived for our reservation time and though we had to wait a bit longer for a table to open up, it was worth it. The prime rib was cooked to perfection (I requested an end cut) and enough for two to share. The ribs were great. We visited on a Friday and live music began while we were dining. You do not need a reservation at the bar. You can walk up and take a chance on finding seats. I'm not sure if you can eat a meal at the bar. Macadamia Nut Calamari: Chunky strips of calamari. I wish these were thinly sliced rings instead. I was not a fan of the texture or the bland taste. Parmesan Crusted Mahi-Mahi: This was good, but for the price, I expected better. I say get their Hawaiian fish instead because our waitress said it was buttery & savory. One of the best restaurants on Maui you have to visit, by far! Probably one, if not the best meal we had on the Island of Maui. Fabulous! Excellent Mai Tai and had my first try of the local Maui Brewing Company's Bikini Blond Ale, great beer! We were fascinated by their Macadamia Nut Calamari appetizer, with a fab house made cocktail suace which was not only delectable, but probably the most tender squid we've ever tried! Even Kimo's simple Island Fish 'n' Chips was indescribable - I really should not have called simple. Just enough breading to not overwhelm, and they use the Bikini Blonde Ale in the batter, keeping the fish tender and fluffy, hmmm! The accompanying tarter sauce, great... and they have what is called crunchy apple cider coleslaw which is to die for. My wife ordered a stupendous serving of a Mahimahi Parmesan Crusted Mahi which is unique in their prep. Oh, did I mention they also offer local entertainment, Wow! I can't say enough about Kimo's, other than you cannot visit Maui without eating here at least once, but it entices you to eat there more often if you can. I booked our reservation at Kimo's, 2 months before our arrival, and made sure to make a note that it was for a special occasion, my daughter's 13th birthday. I was hoping since I gave them plenty of notice, and made a note that it was a special occasion, that we would have a good table, but instead they put us in the corner in the back of the restaurant. When we asked them for a different table, with a better view (one was being cleared as we were being seated) they were very rude, and not accommodating. When we asked our server, she was also very rude about it and then was not very friendly the rest of our visit. My daughter had a good attitude about the situation but we were frustrated at the lack of quality service and accommodation. Walking through Lahaina on a Saturday night, our group of six popped into Kimo's to see if we could get a table. They were plenty busy before & after but we somehow managed to be seated immediately and close to the water. Katie was a great server! I definitely recommend this restaurant. They are the epitome of "quality over quantity" here, and that is just my style nowadays. For dinner, we shared the calamari app, I had the "Ahu" (red snapper) local fish selection served kimo style, and my husband had the ribs. My food was sooooooo good. Ahu was light, buttery, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Man, I was really happy to have ordered it. Calamari was the best I ever had. These days, most of the calamari I order from restaurants are dry, over cooked, over salted, and or blatantly just a refried mass distributed frozen food. Not the case here! Texture of squid was eye-poppingly succulent. Coating was even distribution of salt, seasoning, and crust. Marinara was sooooo fresh with horse radish mix on point. Loved it. We tried to come here one day off the street and there was a 90 min wait, we went to another place which in retrospect, we would have waited. We booked a reservation the following day and came back. We got the mai tai and Cabernet to start followed by the prime rib and kimos style fresh fish. Both were so tender and flavorful. Large portions both of the meat, sides, and sauces. We wish we had waited the first night and still would have come back again. Lastly we had to try the hula pie, which isn't for me but my husband loved it. Two years ago Geoff and I were in Maui and fell in love. With Kimo's. I also remember writing a detailed Yelp review that has since vanished from the internet.. After this latest Maui adventure we are still as much in love with Kimo's (and even more in love with each other- he proposed!! but that's another story) so here we go. Again. Kimo's is hands-down our favorite restaurant to go to in Lahaina. Also in all of Maui. Especially if we sit at the bar. The bar is full service (in addition to their bar-only menu) and is perched right over the ocean, so at sunset you can't find a better place to be. Warning though, this place gets busy, especially during peak tourist season so make reservations. IN ADVANCE! We knew that we wanted to celebrate Geoff's 30th birthday at Kimo's this summer so we called two weeks in advance to make the reservation for a party of 7 and still could only be offered a 5:30 or 8:30pm res. Their food is fab, especially the fresh caught fish! They have a bunch of different ways to prep each different fish dish but are great about letting you mix and match (deep fried, pan fried, sides, etc). And the cocktails are wonderful! My personal favorite is the ginger martini. And you absolutely must save room for the hula pie dessert! It's what the restaurant group is known for and it is unlike anything I've ever had before! We were so full from dinner that we only ended up ordering one slice for the table to share, but the two bites per person was perfect! My favorite two words are Happy and Hour. Now, let's say it together: Happy Hour! I had an OMG moment as I was seated with an amazing yet serene view at this Front Street's spot on the water during their Happy Hour (3 to 5PM). Their Lahaina Lemonade was refreshingly good enough to freshen me up after a day of zipline and on day two of recovering from severe sunburn. The Fish Cake and Asian BBQ Beef Ribs from their Happy Hour menu delivered in flavor although I did find the ribs to be slightly salty. Nonetheless, finger licking good. We made a reservation for dinner at this restaurant which is highly recommended. We ended up having to wait a little bit when we got there and were given one of those flashing pager devices. Throughout the meal, service was a little slow due to how busy it was. Of course, being in Maui the view of the ocean was really good. It is ideal if you go as a couple as you will likely be seated right along the outside edge with the best view of the ocean. There were three of us in our party and we're seated about mid restaurant. Still a good view. We ordered the Caesar salad to start and were provided cornbread muffins. The muffins were delicious and served with whipped butter. The Cesar salads ($8.50 each) were excellent with a very nice dressing. The drinks included a Lava Flow ($11) and a virgin Lava Flow ($7), both were very tasty. Main meals included a fully loaded side of baked potato for my daughter ($5.50) which she enjoyed. Mine was Naiagi coconut crusted ($29.50) which came with broccoli, carrots, seasoned basmati rice, and was topped with a Thai peanut sauce with pineapple and onions. This fish dish was fantastic. My wife had Mahi-mahi Lobster topped ($34) which also came with rice and vegetables. This was also fantastic. Since we were on a roll for the quality of food we decided to try the Hula pie ($11). This is essentially an ice cream cake with a chocolate cookie base and chocolate sauce with crushed macadamia nuts with a side of whip cream. This was large enough for the three of us. Definitely more than one person could eat. It to was fantastic. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for higher and dining in a casual atmosphere. We had the view but the umbrella was only as good as the golden sun would allow. Good food. Prices edging the line of affordability. This is always my first stop when arriving to Maui. (Well, second to picking up an iced coffee!) The restaurant has a prime, ocean front spot with outdoor dining that's situated on a rear deck overlooking the water. As larger swells come in, the waves will actually splash the tables along the railing. Its THAT close! It's just a little splash...nothing that will soak you. It's actually kinda refreshing. Food is ok, but nothing to write home about. Err...write on Yelp about. They have a couple specialty drinks, but again, nothing really stands out for mentioning. It's truly the location and the view that makes this place enjoyable and worth coming to. Staff has always been great; the servers have great personalities. Great place to pick up lunch that won't break the bank and has an excellent view! Parking is wherever you can find it. Yep, overpriced as expected. Let me start by saying we visited Kimo's twice last week. The 1st visit was FANTASTIC and I would give it 5 stars. Unfortunately, our experience on the 2nd visit left a bad taste in our mouths. I am sorry but I don't remember the name of the server on our 1st visit but she was outstanding. If I find the receipt I will definitely update this review. Ikaika Cosma (IG name) sang and did an amazing job. All of the 6 people in our party loved their food and beverages. We went back a couple days later and didn't have the best experience. The only time our server, Katie was nice to us was when she gave us our check and told us "I appreciate you". The part that really bothered us was that when I walked over to use the restroom to wash my hands before leaving an older lady with grey/white hair stopped me and told me I couldn't use the restroom since I wasn't a customer. I totally get businesses not letting just anyone use their restroom but we were customers. I explained to her that we were customers and pointed to our table. She then told me again that I couldn't use the restroom I told her yet again that we were in fact customers and that we were waiting to pay our bill. Not once did she apologize or say a kind word, she just kept telling me that I couldn't use their restroom. Honestly, I'm not sure what her issue was so I walked around her to the restroom, washed my hands, paid our bill and left. She was hands down the rudest person we encountered on our trip. read more

I'm so glad our friends invited us to Kimo's for dinner or we may never have tried it! When one said he didn't normally eat fish except for at Kimo's, we knew we had to go! They have other things like steak on the menu which look delicious, but I think they really specialize in the fish. And if you're on Maui, get it. We tried four different fish dishes and they were all good. But I think we all really liked the ones we ordered. I posted the pictures of each of them. I got the Parmesan crusted and was sooo happy with it. We also got the poke avocado stack and another appetizer, but we ate them so fast, I didn't even take a picture. They were delicious too! Hubby and I got sick of laboring at DIY on Labor weekend Monday so escaped to Front St to find somewhere with a HH to make us happy...lol. Kimo's was the chosen spot as we could see the ocean view through the restaurant as we walked by. Surprisingly there were plenty of empty seats in the bar area so we nabbed one close to the seafront but under shade. Our waitress came over very quickly to take our order and was happy to sub pineapple juice for cranberry juice in the HH Lahaina Lemonade and make a fruity alcohol free concoction for hubby (Kimo's - please add some non alcoholic cocktails to your menu/HH). We were also tempted by the pork fries and the crab cake off the HH menu (prices are very reasonable for both food and drinks during HH). The fries were very tasty with melted cheese, plenty of meat and the potatoes were crisp and hot. The crab cake was spicy with sriracha laced on the top - YUM! Only downside was the bed of old, dry, discoloured cabbage it came on. Very offputting, hence the 5th star missing. We decided to split a piece of Hula Pie between us and it was delicious, and a HUGE serving. We really enjoyed our HH exeprience at Kimo's, great view, great food, great staff. I was looking for somewhere right on the water, with 4+ reviews, and let me tell you- this place did not disappoint. First, the patio was beautiful, lovely lighting and live music playing on a Wednesday night. Our server was so kind and attentive. The FOOD, best restaurant we've eaten at in a while in both Hawaii or on the mainland. Wonderful fish and chips, and the best burger I've had in a while. Drinks were a bit pricy, but WORTH IT! This place's menu has changed in a couple ways (new management?) that don't make sense. First, the menu lists multiple preparations for the fish, and states that the prep given by wait staff is the "chef's recommendation." However, this is misleading because you cannot get any fish in any listed recommendation. The language should be updated to reflect this change in the kitchen (and it's been this way for a number of years???). Second, since the menu is available digitally now, why not update it to include the available fish and their preparation? Having to remember 3 or more fish and their preparation makes deciding hard. Lastly, the carrot muffins. They're still available! However, now they charge 65¢ per muffin after the first two. (Get that hustle i guess.) Why aren't they listed on the menu for that price either? I grew up LOVING this place. The ambience, the (formerly free) muffins, the delicious fish you could have prepared almost any way. If the changes they made are reflected on the menu, it would make the experience a lot less confusing. read more

It's funny because the only reason we came here was because my boyfriend's friend had the same name as the restaurant.. but who knew it'd turn out to be one of our favorite meals in Maui! We were lucky enough to just get there right when they opened. We were just around the area snacking on shaved ice and crispy teri bites before coming here too! We didn't have reservations but we were seated upstairs and had a nice view of the ocean. Our server gave us his best recommendations and we chose from there. I ordered their coconut crusted marlin which had thai peanut sauce and maui gold pineapple salsa. My boyfriend went with their koloa pork ribs which was seasoned with plum bbq sauce and cooked traditional Koloa Kauai style. I loved both dishes! My boyfriend said their ribs were better than Firestone's in SLO. The meat was tender and easy to peel off! I wish the fish was served with mashed potatoes though, but that's alright, it was still delicious! I definitely recommend trying this out if you're in Lahaina. Fun fact Kimo's is actually one of the older restaurants in Maui. We came because of the view you can get while eating and really for the Hula pie. But understand you may not get the best spot. A lot of restaurants had been book so very thankful that they had availability.Came here with family and ordered the fish and chips and Kimo's da plate. The fish and chips were good but to be honest nothing too special that you can't get anywhere else. Da plate, was not very good the chicken skewers were too dry and just drizzled a little of Teri sauce on them. For the price point and the quality of food I would not recommend this. As I said we really came here for the Hula Pie, and it did not disappoint. It is basically Vanilla ice cream with macadamia nuts and chocolate syrup. It was delicious and decadent. The view is amazing, the food is phenomenal, but even in the face of a Maui sunset, it pales in comparison to the service. We had some food allergies in our party, and they took it as seriously as if we were truly family. They double checked everything and kept us in mind for every ingredient in our orders. The food was amazing. The calamari was perfectly tender and crisp, the poke stack was amazing enough to be an entree by itself.
