My wife and I are staying in a condo nearby, and we wanted to enjoy some takeout on our lanai. We were recommended this restaurant by a relative, so we decided to try it out. We wanted a light dinner, so we got the Caesar Salad, Macadamia Nut Calamari, and Fisherman's Chowder. The salad was about what we expected. The dressing was really nice. The calamari was really good! It had a nice crunchy crust and moist on the inside. The cocktail sauce that came with it was good. The fisherman's chowder was good. It had a nice peppery taste to it. The portion was rather small. While everything tasted good, it was nowhere near worth the price. Maybe the entrees would be worth the price of what you would expect at a restaurant that caters to tourists, but a great restaurant would normally have the same quality taste across the entire menu. We had the fisherman's chowder although I forgot to snap a picture of the chowder and calamari, we were hungry.. It was so good! Huge chunks of fish, the best chowder I've had in a long time. The macadamia nut calamari was pushed to the top of my calamari list. It was served in large strips with yummy cocktail sauce, spot on! We came here our last day at Maui based on recommendation from friend. Initially they put at an awkward table on 1st floor with tiny ants crawling everywhere. I asked them to move us right away. So, we got a table upstairs. At this point, I wasn't expecting much. However, they changed my mind. We got a great view, waitress, and pretty good food. After Pacific'o, it's hard to beat that experience but we paid way more there. We wanted a light meal so we skipped appetizers and was going to the famous shave ice across the street. We were pleasantly surprised that they remembered that we are celebrating our anniversary. They got us a free huge mud pie. So we skipped our shave ice plans. Best restaurant in Maui! From the moment we walked in, got there early and they verified what we were celebrating, took us to the table in front of the water. That right there already made a great impression, our server greeted us as well. On to the food: Everything was great from the Kalua pork lettuce wraps, fisherman's chowder which my picky son rated 10/10, to the Chilled Shrimp Salad and the Prime Rib and the children's options. I usually love Kimo's and the entire chain of TS Restaurants, but our last experience here literally left us hungry for more. Portion sizes have become shockingly petite - the serving sizes for their fish look like a joke. Or perhaps something off the kids' menu. I am not a massive eater but I downed my fish in what seemed like minutes, as did the rest of our party. Kimo's, what's going on??? Service is pleasant and helpful, drinks are stiff, and the view of course is fantastic. My dish (Parmesan crusted ono) was really flavorful, although scant on the capers (I think there were 4?). My husband thought his lobster was too creamy and mayonnaise-y, but the other folks in my party were happy with the actual flavor of their seafood. Recommend to pre-game with some appetizers or snacks before dining here, or consider going elsewhere for the price. Seems that quality and portions have gone downhill in this touristy location. Prime rib and hula pie is amazing ! Best prime rib I had in my life. Order it medium (any higher in wellness than that I feel like the meat would of not been good.) So if you don't like pink in your meat don't get this. Hula pie is hands down an experience of its own. I'll never forget that first bite. I'll keep coming here again and again for that pie. The service was phenomenal very attentive and friendly. They remembered it was my anniversary so I feel like that's why we got a good table. I don't recommend the slushy POG or mango and the sashimi. I appreciated the cooling breeze and the shade from the umbrellas. I had the chilled shrimp salad, which inexplicably had sweet pickle slices on top?? The shrimp were cut in half to look like more. The salad was generally good. There was no carbohydrate provided; I asked whether there was bread or crackers and was simply told no. I also had a mai tai that was quite unremarkable and also tasteless...as though the pineapple juice and rums had been left out. . They provided us with details on the seasonal fish that they use in their dishes and didn't hesitate to answer any questions that we had. A wonderful restaurant. My family enjoyed Kimo's. The fish was fresh and prepared very well. My family enjoyed the lobster topped, wild mushroom and spinach ravioli, baked kimos style and the prime ribs. I have to say that the lobster topped was definitely my favorite. It was my first time having lobster and the bar has been set very high! The Mai tai is quite a refresher and different than the ones I have tried before. Kimos incorporates pineapple juice in it with a wedge of pineapple and I have to say it's great! Every time we come to Maui, we need to stop at Kimo's. Night time there can be so crowded that we opted for lunch. There were four of us and we were seated upstairs second table over from rail overlooking ocean. The blue hawaiian drinks were perfect and lunch for all was excellent. We had ahi salads, fish plate, and cheeseburger. No room for Hula pie but it looked wonderful. Service was great. We switched tables to ocean front once a table became available and enjoyed the fabulous view. Downstairs we purchased 2 Kimo's t-shirts. Be prepared to spend some money for food and drinks. Lunch for four with 3 mixed drinks and 1 beer was $137 without tip. Still, a must visit while in Maui. read more

The food was good with a great view. Get the calamari. Tasted fresh. The kimos baked had fresh catch of the day and the sauce on it was like a pesto garlic. The best part was the hula pie which is a huge slab of vanilla ice cream covered with chocolate sauce and macademia nuts and a light whipped cream to tie it all together. We came at a random time at 3pm and it wasn't even that crowded but the food took 30 min to come out. So docking a star for that. Our dinner at Kimo's was one of my favorite meals on the island! We stopped in to watch the sunset without a reservation, and we were lucky enough to snag a seat with a great view of the water. I tried their spin on a Moscow Mule - Kimo's Grog, which was so good! Super refreshing. For an appetizer, we ordered the macadamia nut crusted calamari which was delicious- crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Our entrees were the pork ribs which fell right off the bone, and the chilled shrimp & crab salad. The salad was better than I expected- there was a decent amount of shrimp & crab, and the vinaigrette it was tossed in was delicious. It's a great option for a lighter yet filling meal. When we visit Maui (this our 5th time) Our tradition is to dine at Kimo's on our FIRST night. They never disappoint. Our server, Nathan, was outstanding-- knowledgeable about the menu and very personable. He is an asset to Kimo's. The food? OMG!!! I had the beet salad (I ALWAYS order it) then the Parmesan crusted fish with roasted rainbow carrots and wild grain rice. To die for. My husband had three appetizers for his meal: sashimi tuna (which he said was the BEST he ever had -- and he's traveled to Japan!); coconut shrimp and seafood chowder. Delicious! We sat on the second floor, outdoors which was nice though we couldn't see the band playing live music, we could hear though. We got a pina collada which was great, a little light on rum though. All of the waiters went above & beyond to make sure we had a great experience. First, they brought out these amazing muffins that tasted like carrot cake (?!). They were so good! We shared the kalua pork lettuce wraps as an appetizer, and I ordered the coconut crusted fresh fish. It was fresh and sweet from both the peanut sauce and pineapple salsa. The lobster tail was outstanding and we all loved the local fish special parmesan crusted. Delicious local carrots and pilaf on the side. Prices were high but on par with the other similar seafood restaurants we considered as alternatives. This place is easily one of my favorite places to dine on Front Street! First off, book a reservation ahead of time. This place gets super packed so you're better off booking early on- you won't be disappointed! All the seating is patio/outdoor so there is plenty of fresh air flowing through the dining areas. As for the food, you are offered a complimentary carrot muffin which is extremely moist and SO delicious. If you want more, they're about 65 cents a piece. Drink: Lava Flow was amazing! It tastes like a strawberry smoothy and the consistency is creamy. If you're looking for a light cocktail drink, this is a great one to get. Entree (technically Appetizer): Because I wasn't too hungry, I opted for the lettuce wraps with Kalua pork drizzled with BBQ sauce from the appetizer menu. The pork was tender and the BBQ sauce added a nice sweet and tangy zing. If you're more particular about BBQ sauce portions, I would recommend asking for it on the side. Overall, this light meal was just right! Dessert (the only one on the menu!): The famous hula pie is an 11/10. Unless you're allergic to macadamia nuts, I'd highly recommend getting this dessert. Warning, it is massive so splitting with 2-4 people is plenty to go around. But honestly, its so good, you could eat a whole one by yourself! The ambiance was fantastic- if you can come here at sunset/dusk; it is SO pretty and there is live music too. Be sure to stop by here if you're in the area! read more

What an awesome place to eat. From the food to service and atmosphere, a perfect 5 star restaurant. Kimo our waiter was so cool, helpful and quick. And with that name he does not own this great restaurant. But he mentioned that he wished he did. We split a pupu of Coconut Shrimp, super tasty with a great cider honey mustard sauce. Also served with the freshest petit carrot muffins 2 and creamy butter, to die for. We also split a very delicious white fish parmesan crusted with the best lemon beurre blanc sauce with capers and a great rice dish. Thank you to the hostess for getting us in during the dinner peak. I really appreciate it. We were hoping to be there for happy hour but didn't make it. We ended with the full on dinner (i.e., pricey). We sat a row behind the ocean view but that was fine. The diners with the prime location kept getting people in their view taking group photos. You have to let it go even if it can be annoying because the view is the star of the show. We started off with the complimentary carrot muffins that were moist but not oily like carrot cake. I went with the Mahi Mahi which was good but I thought the rice was just as good. My son had the stuffed lobster while my daughter had the mushroom ravioli which was the best out of all of ours! The view is really great and the service is super friendly. Honestly the food for lunch did not wow me at all. I'm sad I wasted one of my meals here unfortunately. I feel like people must have super bland taste if they actually like the food here. Really unsure how they got good reviews, but maybe it was an off day. The fish taco was only ok, pretty bland, watery and didn't even look tasty. I had fish tacos from a food truck the day before that were delicious and these were meh. It only comes with two small tacos and I didn't even finish one. The side of tortilla chips and salsa seemed like cheap fillers. Not worth the $21. The Kimo's baked was good but portion was small and honestly not worth $23. The tables were dirty and had dried food stuck to it where there were spaces, which was a little gross. The lava flow was delicious and pricey. I would get that again but I probably will not go back. Front Street is lined with tourist trap type restaurants, but this is our favorite. While the food is just alright, the view and drinks are reason enough to make this stop special. I like having a mid day drink and appetizers here, or starting the night with drinks here. The ocean view, cool breeze, and crashing sound of the waves are all idyllic at any time of the day. The service can sometimes be slow, which is a direct result of the popularity of this place. I've always found the servers and front desk to be extremely nice, likely a prerequisite. On this visit we went with a grip of appetizers, and we enjoyed them all. coconut shrimp, ahi poke & avocado stack, kalua pork lettuce wraps, crab cakes, and a cup of clam chowder. Don't believe the hype. After finding that Miso Phat's wait was 1.5 hours, we rushed down the road to Kimo's, fingers crossed we could walk into this local staple of the Lahaina dinner scene. Luckily we got the last no-reservation table. The lava flow drink was good, if you like very, very light cocktails. The rum flavor was barely discernible, however, and this cocktail was more liquidy--I thought it should be a bit more like a slushie. It was nice of them to provide free carrot muffins. These were surprisingly flavorful. The calamari wasn't hot when it reached our table, though the plate was. Although I haven't eaten macadamia-crusted calamari elsewhere, this wasn't anything to write home about. It was pretty bland. The mushroom ravioli was barren of mushrooms, save for one rubbery one at the bottom of the plate. My sister said this was bland. My sister also reported the Kimo's plate fish of the day was without flavor. I think the two redeeming plates were the koloa pork ribs and tuna sashimi. Locally sourced, the ribs were covered in sauce...that tasted what barbecue rib sauce should taste like. The rib portions were reasonable too. The fries included with the ribs were very soggy and lukewarm upon arrival. The ribs' slaw was plain. The tuna was pretty fresh. We asked for the 14 oz prime rib at medium, and it came out medium well. Overall, the food wasn't what I'd thought it'd be. I had heard a lot of great things about Kimo's from locals. Maybe we came on a bad day. The service here is great. Although our waitress was quite busy, she checked up on us a lot. With tip, it all came out to $214. I feel like for the food we received, this price is not right. Most of the food was basically prepared and served on par with the quality of a cheap corporate steakhouse (you know the one.). Based on the food we got, I think this is an ambiance restaurant. The food isn't good. The ambiance is. The service is. Nice family dinner spot! With love music ! Not the cheapest but a good "bang for your buck". You also get great views as they are waterfront and have two levels. I got a lemon Alfredo type pasta with kale and tomatoes and shrimp. The pasta was not hot which was disappointing (not cold either) but the flavor was right on so I didn't say anything. I think my meal may have been ready before others and it sat (maybe). My husband got the ribs and loved them and my parents both got arugula salads with shrimp, beets, egg, cucumber, tomato, avocado salad . The salad was ok but they really enjoyed the chowder. It does have bacon in it so just be aware of that. Although there were some minor ways improvement could be made the place and service was great. I would definitely come back. read more
