The food was amazing! However, I have to mention the customer service. Backstory: I went here for lunch around 1:30PM yesterday with my Mom (they open at 1PM, I think). When we walked in, there were 6 tables already being waited on with only one waiter. We understood that it may take a little bit for us to put our order in. To be honest, it didn't! Our waiter (I didn't catch his name) was on top it! He got our order in on top of serving the other patrons. He got our food out quickly and was very apologetic and explained why it may take a little bit longer than usual. He did the work of 2-3 servers. His customer service skills were definitely top-notch and I commend him for doing such an amazing job with a smile on his face. THIS is what AMAZING customer service looks like! Amazing food and an even more amazing owner. My favorite Korean restaurant hands down. The owner, as I say "Mama Kim," is very caring for her guests and can make choosing a good dish very easy. She cares for all flavors and just might feed you. I suggest the aloe vera, kimchi, and the galbi, but anything is amazing. She is very kid-friendly and has a wall of drawing from her younger visitors. The restaurant is a very nice place to please everyone with seating at the bar, standard tables, and korean bbq tables. I highly suggest this restaurant to anyone wanting to try a wide variety of Korean food. 10/10 do recommend. read more

Tried Kim's for a business lunch. The lunch menu had good selections especially the bento boxes. I went with the bulgogi box and it was very good. The meat was tender and flavorful. The other items in the box were very good also. The many pickled sside dishes offered for the entire were also very good. I would return to try their other dishes. Let me start by saying I have eaten in several Korean BBQ's in Jacksonville for the past 10 years or so, mostly at Sam Wan on University which I think is very good and consistent with their menu and quality. I always order the Bulgogi or the bbq short ribs. I decided to try Kim's Korean BBQ and a friend was joining me for lunch. When we walked in there was only one couple eating in the entire restaurant. Ok, I thought it is new and takes time to get established. At the counter where the hostess was as you first walk in, was a menu on a card showing the lunch selections. The menu said the Bento box..entree plus spicy salad, dumplings and rice. That is what I was expecting. I ordered the Bulgogi and my friend had wanted the beef short ribs however the lunch price was $15.99 which is pricey for lunch so she decided to eat the Bulgogi also. The lunch included several small servings of Korean appetizers called Banchan which were very good. The entree came and there was no spicy salad or dumplings but other selections including kimchi which I find too spicy for my taste. I thought the Bulgogi did not have much flavor and the meat was somewhat chewy and there was hardly any sauce. It did not come on a cast iron skillet as described in another review. It looked and tasted more like boiled meat and vegetables. I never complained about that, I was just going to eat it. I asked the server could she please give me a little more sauce which I was hoping would help. That's all I asked for, just a little more sauce. She left and then the owner, which I assumed was Kim came over which was not really necessary but she said she would fix another Bulgogi. I said not really necessary, just a little more sauce please. She continued to say she would fix another plate and I continued to say no, just add a little more sauce to the bulgogi on my plate. Well she brought out more Bulgogi anyway. I appreciated what she did and I thanked her. I guess my mistake was that I then asked her why didn't I get a spicy salad and dumplings which is what I really wanted because I was not familiar with the other Korean items on my plate. She said they change daily and what I had was today's lunch. I said her menu should reflect that stating selections change daily and I would have asked if I could have dumplings. She said they do not have dumplings today and with and attitude said "WE DO NOT GIVE YOU CHOICES- BUT I WILL MAKE YOU DUMPLINGS!!" . I said not necessary. She then began calling out, yelling for someone to come over. I was really embarrassed and very surprised a owner trying to establish a new restaurant would lower herself to screaming at a customer. Totally unjustified. Then a Korean man came over, I assumed he was her husband and she very loudly said.."do not charge them, do not charge them" I said that is not what I want, I never said or wanted a free meal. I only wanted a little extra sauce. That's all! She again began SCREAMING at us, he tried to calm her down, she continued screaming and we got up and walked out. I did not pay, because I never really ate my meal. I have never ever walked out of a restaurant or not paid for my meal. I want to say that I never made demands or raised my voice. I do not conduct myself in that manner. The restaurant business is very competitive with many new restaurants in Jacksonville and many more coming including my family's very upscale restaurant opening in the near future plus several other well established 1st class restaurants. I hope this review shows Kim how unnecessary her actions were and that when a customer requests something, you do your best to accommodate them and never ever raise your voice. Pretty nice spot!! Far from my house but glad we tried in while we were out! The only item I did not care for was the seafood pancake I have had much better! It was not nasty but not the best either! Went here today for lunch. There was only one waitress.... she acknowledged us right away and brought us some free apps because we had a small wait. The wait was worth it! Upon entering the restaurant we found the staff to be friendly and welcoming. Before entering the table/booth area, we noticed a hand sanitizer machine which was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant is nicely decorated and immaculate. We did not have to wait long for our food even though we read that all food items are prepared fresh upon placing your order. Everything we ordered was outstanding and arrived steaming hot. Flavors were spot on. Our friend ordered the seafood soup and thought it delicious and full of flavor. My husband ordered a spicy seafood soup and found it excellent with lots of seafood and a nice kick. I ordered a pork dish and enjoyed the multi-layers of flavors with just enough spice to make my tastebuds tingle. I cannot say enough about our server Nicki. She was attentive and took time to answer all our questions. She regularly checked on us to see if we needed anything even the restaurant was quite busy and Nicki was the only server. I never saw anyone waiting long for their orders. We had a delightful evening and know that we will return again and again. Next time we look forward to sitting at one of the cooking tables and ordering the pork belly and Korean bar-be-que. Simply put, this is a hidden gem in Mandarin. I can't say enough good things about Kim's Korean BBQ! The atmosphere was bright and clean with Korean music videos playing on a large screen TV in the background. I took a party of 10 for lunch and everything went smoothly. The service was on point as the waiter was both attentive and efficient. The food was delicious and a good value for the money. We started with Haemool Pa Jeon (a seafood, potato, green onion pancake with dipping sauce) that was large enough for the table to all have a taste. It was good, but a bit oily. The lunch bento box was $12.99 and included a choice of 4 entrees. I chose the Bulgogi, a delicious dish of marinated grilled beef, onions and bell peppers. The portion was generous (I should have saved some for dinner, but I couldn't resist eating it)) and included well-seasoned cellophane noodles, 2 Mandu (fried meat-stuffed dumplings), white rice and a large assortment of Banchan (house-made pickles and condiments). Pete, the proprietor, checked in to make sure we were pleased and took the extra step to ask for any constructive criticism. We had none to offer. Food was ok. I've had better, maybe I expected too much. Being from Hawaii I had some of the best. When my family walked into the restaurant, we were not immediately seated. A worker was at the bar talking with a customer or friend, he got up after a few minutes to get us menus, by then another worker came out from the kitchen to seat us. I appreciate it when servers ask or offer more banchan (sp?), she didn't. However, she offered the other table near us. I was upset, but didn't make a fuss about it. Also, another table behind us, who was seated 10 min after us was served first, when I know our order went in first. We had the same server. She gave my daughter's japchae to them and made my daughter wait. The food is pricier than most places I'm used to and portions are smaller. Sides may be unlimited but if the options are Kim chee cabbage, pickled cabbage, Kim chee green onions, Kim chee eggplant and radish, you won't necessarily ask for more. Guess you would if that's what you like. I'm not used to it. I'm familiar with Kim chee cucumber, won bok, sprouts and taegu. I'm not going back, unless they improve their service and flow. My mom and I drove by Mama Kim's Korean BBQ last week on our way to San Marco. We stopped by today (Sat. 08-05-17) around 130PM. We were greeted by a wonderful staff and our order was taken promptly. I am adopted from South Korea and absolutely love Korean food and Korean culture and my mom makes a great effort to enjoy Korean culture with me. She doesn't eat spicy food and a lot of Korean food can be spicy. So we ordered the Galbi for both of us to share and Japchae and Mandu in case the galbi wasn't her favorite. Galbi isn't spicy, but we aren't huge red meat eaters; however, I make an exception for korean food because it's that good. I frequent another Korean restaurant in Jacksonville (Samwon Garden), and while the menu at Kim's isn't as expansive, the food is much better. The galbi is cut really thin and without bones so you don't get any charred pieces. The japchae was great and so was the mandu. Don't be swayed by the prices for some of the meals. You get a ton of food that can easily count as a meal for 2-3. The Galbi can definitely feed 2 people with the banchan and rice. The kimchi is some of the best kimchi I have had in the Jacksonville area. I'm very pleased to find a korean restaurant that is closer to my house. The staff are super knowledgable about the items on the menu and they play Kpop in the background so listening to BTS during our entire meal was a nice touch! I came to Kim's on a Thursday afternoon after work. I'm a broke PT intern, I only got chicken fried rice (which was amazing) and they brought out all this different bon chon to try. This was such a disappointment, coming from overseas and being to tons of Korean BBQ places this is NOTHING like the experience your supposed to get. You are only given the option to order from 3 meats (one being bacon) and your friends also have to order the same thing if you want to do use the grill yourself, which your waiter keeps putting there hands in the entire time. The waitress was rude, loud, obnoxious just like the owner. Told we were not able to order unspicy ramen, then after being told it wasn't to spicy and was tolerable for all customers, was not given any sympathy for not wanting it anymore or at least an apology. Was verbally attacked by the owner who made a scene in front of all the customers there saying we should have ordered unspicy.. which we were previously told we couldn't do. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE **** UPDATE: Entree was NOT eaten at ALL, and SOUP WASNT either, only tried to eat the seafood which was one shrimp and one crab which the crab was broke open and didn't have any meat *** again wouldn't recommend they are liars and rude. This is one of my favorite korean food places. I have tried the daboki, spicy squid bibimbap , kimchi jigae which were all amazing and full of flavor. I also tried the dumplings which tasted like your typical steamed or fried dumpling. The only thing i would mention is the first time i went they had the flavored Soju. Now they do not carry it anymore just regular flavor which is kind of a bummer. I would highly recommend this place if you are wanting fresh and flavorful Korean food. read more

3 Pros: Seemed clean; not crowded; staff friendly and willing to serve. 3 Cons: Menu limited; a little on the pricey side; only 3 small pieces of radish kimche available. I will probably go back at least once more in the future to check it out after they have had time to mature as a business. Waitress mentioned they had only opened a little over 3 weeks ago. I would hope a Korean restaurant would not run out of radish kimche (my favorite). We had dishes that included noodles, seafood, dumplings, beef and rice. Some of the dishes were above average while others I would call average. The rice in one dish had more than a few hard/crunchy grains in it. My guess is the rice for that dish was the last of the rice in the cooker. The other bowls of rice were fine. The dumplings were only warm but the rest of the hot food was hot. I will visit again because I expect a business just starting up will have some growing pains. Having said that, it was a pleasant enough experience for a place still establishing itself. I should point out that my frame of reference is that I lived in Asia for a number of years and I am married to a Korean who grew up in that country. I'm used to Korean food from both Korea and that made by my wife and in-laws. I don't expect it to be as good as what I get at home but that may account for the difference between my experience and the many 5 star experiences in the reviews. I hope I will be able to edit this review to 4 or 5 stars in a month or two after I revisit. I would recommend giving it a try if you like Korean dishes, just keep in mind that this restaurant is fairly new. read more

Once we entered the restaurant, we had to wait. One of the employee eventually turned around after he was done chatting with what seemed to be his friend at the bar counter. We had to wait after being seated for the waitress. You know you have waited a while when you already to order your food when you order your drink and it was even our first time here. My daughters food came out last and the people that sat next to us that came after we had ordered got the same food my daughter ordered. It was an appetizer! Ban Chan (sides) supposedly unlimited but my wife had to ask a few times for refills. Waitress did not even asked. Portions were small for the price! Finished my rice and still had plenty of bulgogi left but was disappointed so I just did not bother to ask.
