Great quality sushi at an affordable price point! Came on a Friday evening and was seated right away. All of the pieces tasted fresh and were not fishy at all. I liked the toppings on a lot of the seared white fishes, ranged from crunchy chili crisp to citrusy sauces and caviar. The combination of wagyu and toro in a handroll was new to me, used to it being only toro with other mixins. I loved the char on the wagyu pieces but wished they were kept separate, maybe top half fully wagyu, bottom half just the toro. Overall great experience seeing the chef prep each piece at the bar. This is one of those omakases that are affordable and won't cost you over 100 per person. The sushi chef didn't speak much English but I did make out what we were eating. Great service, decent rice, fresh fish. Cost of 1 person was $70 i believe, not 100% sure. They had a BOGO deal that I didnt take advantage of. I would recommend for anyone who wants to try omakase but not spend $145 a person. This is a good starter to see if you like different types of sushi. Other than salmon and tuna. Went on a Thursday night and the bar was filled about 50%-60%. I probably wouldn't come back but again, but if you don't want to spend over $150 bucks then try this first. My sister and I absolutely had to try Kimyo/KOI Omakase for the incredible limited time BOGO deal for $69 omakase with 13 courses. What a deal! I hope they can bring it back in the future. We booked in advance on RESY and arrived as soon as they were opening. They were still opening up, so we sat a while in the waiting area. It's a very modern, clean stylish atmosphere, essentially one room with the sushi bar surrounding the preparation area in the center. Bar stools with a back, and sparse purse hooks under the counter. As soon as we were seated, we were given water, a moist towelette, chopsticks, and ginger. The sushi chef asked everyone in our party if we wanted wasabi -- I asked for none in mine and they were very accomodating. I had never experienced omakase before, so it was genuinely exciting to watch the chefs expertly prepare the course in front of you. Fresh fish, unique flavors and textures, paired perfectly with the other ingredients. They were all very professional and efficient, and announced the courses to us as they came. Here are the courses listed out: 1. sea bream with yuzu spritz 2. yellowtail 3. sea bass with chili crisp 4. spanish mackerel with ponzu radish 5. charred black cod yuzu 6. bluefin tuna with pickled wasabi 7. fatty tuna with caviar 8. sea scallop 9. miso soup with shrimp head 10. shrimp with uni 11. charred salmon with foie gras 12. unagi 13. toro hand roll My highlights were the yellowtail, bluefin tuna, and unagi, but there wasn't a single bad one. The fish was all fresh and delicious, and the pairings went well! A couple thoughts I had -- couldn't taste or feel the caviar at all, it must have been so soft and instantly melted? And the charred salmon with foie gras was so buttery and fatty and rich -- I loved it but some were not fans. The unagi and toro hand rolls were made one at a time and given directly to us, (probably to preserve the heat for the unagi, and the seaweed crispness for the roll) where all the other courses were prepared in total and then handed out. I didn't leave super full, but I definitely wasn't hungry after -- 12 pieces of sushi is a good amount! All in all, I'd totally recommend! I'd go again if they had a similar deal in the future. 3.5 stars based on the promo experience alone. Came to Koi Omakase recently for their 2nd anniversary special $69 13-course BOGO deal, happening until September 1st. It's a 60-min seating, but it's more like 45 mins. Because of the promo, it's a full house. It's a big restaurant with a huge counter bar and seats a good 30 people at once. Don't be late because from the moment you arrive til the 60 mins are up, the whole experience feels pretty rushed and hectic, especially for the servers and chefs. I noticed for those who are late, the chef just leave your sushi pieces on your plate so when you arrive, your sushi is already sitting in front of you waiting (this is pretty unusual for an omakase). I guess they're pressured to stay on time to make sure everyone gets their complete course in an hour's time and rush you out before the next hour's seating begins. It's not ideal for a date since the whole experience is pretty rushed so this is not the place to sit and chit chat for hours. The 13-course consists of 1 shrimp miso soup, 11 nigiris, and 1 hand roll. The shrimp miso soup was a bit too salty and the tuna hand roll was just OK. The nigiris were good and some of the pieces/toppings were pretty basic/standard. The standout pieces for me were the toro with caviar, sweet shrimp with uni, and king salmon with foie gras. Overall, this is a great deal for an omakase experience but probably won't return for their standard omakase. There are better omakases in the neighborhood. While I enjoyed all the sushi, I had to knock off a few stars for the overall experience. After September 1st, Koi Omakase is rebranding and changing their name to KIMYO Omakase with a new promo, which might be worth checking out. Very chill omakase spot for casual catch up with friends. The interior was quite dark inside. Fishes were pretty fresh. The rice was a little too sticky and soft. I wasn't amazed by it but the omakase did get progressively better. The chefs tells you the name of the fish and that's about it but understandable since they only have 75 minutes for 18 courses. Had an amazing 2025 Valentine's Day lunch with my boyfriend. Service was friendly and lots professional. Food delicious and great amount price especially since it included endless sake! Ambience is clean and comfortable. We arrived for lunch little early and had to sit in the corner to wait and we got them to set up. For lunch on Valentine's Day they only had the place half full. But they sat a couple right next to us. I kind of wish they left a seat open between us. Besides that everything else was amazing! After the meal got started the free sake started coming and the servers are very generous with the pours. Always watching and refilling, I never had to ask once! We planned on day drinking so we really appreciated it. All do the sushi was delicious. Nothing that was mind blowing but for the price it satisfies my omakase craving more than enough! My favorites and most memorable ( since i was drinking away ) pieces were the Kampachi, ikura, mackeral, and wagyu with uni. The kampachi was yummy and I liked the texture and yuzu on it. The ikura was really refreshing and crunchy compared to other ones I've had in a while. Mackeral because I just like it although my bf said it was just okay, and I remember the wagyu beef being juicy and very beefy, flavorful,and oily. At the end of the day it will depends on what sushi you like and there was a good variety. Lastly shout out to Viego who made our lunch so much fun. I don't remember when we started talking to him but he made sure our sake was full and we drank a lot and pretty fast sometimes taking the full glass. By no means were we wasted tho, we were still respectful. By the end of the meal most of us were at a nice tipsy and very satisfied. We made a reservation with Koi to try their promo of BOGO 13-course omakase for $69 from 6/1/25-9/1/2025. From start to finish it was around 40min. The quality of the fish was decent, but I found some of the combinations did not complement each other. For example, they placed a pickled scallion topping on the tuna, which did not compliment the fish. Another piece, they put uni on top of the shrimp, which was a creamy-on-creamy combination. The shrimp over took the uni because the uni piece was small and the shrimp was not crisp enough, so I would have much rather enjoyed them separately. The unagi eel was overly sauced and salted. Some pieces had too much wasabi and others had too much house soy sauce. I enjoyed the mackerel, scallop, salmon with foie gras, toro, and shrimp head miso soup the best. Saw an ad on Instagram for bogo and decided to come try this place out. They have seating for about 30 people at the sushi counter. Service is about an hour for 13 courses. My favorites were the scallop, salmon with foie grae and the torched black cod. I went for their Bogo deal for 2 for $69 and that definitely sounds like a steal but we ended up paying 80 each because we added extra pieces and had drinks! Upon walking it's super busy and packed because of the deal they did a whole transformation with cleaning up the previous customers plates and introducing the new upcoming guests. It basically was super packed inside and they allowed everyone to wait inside while they got ready. Seems like they've been doing a lot of work. Thankfully unlike my other experience with SHINN east's Bogo deal they actually are very nice and smile and also are catering to the customers needs which I'm happy to see as I know sometimes the workers can be overworked. The vibe of the place was NYC chic like newer omakase spots that have opened up. Instead of wood, they have black stone and give us a silver sheet to put the sushi on. There's also good amount of room next to people for seating since I know that was something I encountered from other sushi spots where they stuff everyone inside but this one was quite nice in terms of atmosphere, space, service and environment. I think the omakase I received was great but I remember receiving two of the same pieces of sushi- we got two differently made red snapper. In the beginning we kept getting white fish so red snapper, yellowtail, sea bass , black cod before miso soup. I think it should have been switched up a little more like I wish I got some tuna in there or something. Their black cod with radish actually tastes really good it was one of the highlights of the omakase. Of course they left the best for last so after miso soup they started with blue fin tuna, and then fatty tuna with caviar, sea scallop, botan ebi with sea urchin, salmon with truffle, and eel... they ended it off with tuna with radish hand roll. I think they did good on their botan ebi with uni and their scallop, and my favorite was the seared salmon with truffle foie gras on top. I wish they included Wagyu or something in the course because I ended up ordering their Wagyu afterwards and it was super good! I definitely think this was worth it. I invited a guy who didn't realize he was allergic to uni and ended up having a really bad allergic reaction so that wasn't their fault but it definitely sort of dampened my experience along with my partner who often gets omakase with me but this time her stomach hurt after eating this omakase which is why I dinged it one star down. As a person who never has stomach issues I had no issues with this omakase per say but just for my partner who often eat omakase she has a weaker stomach and never eats leftover or in general picky with food so she ended up getting a stomach ache she needed to pass during the night to the next morning. This is something I think people who easily get upset stomach should be careful about as maybe their sushi was left out longer than usual. But I actually loved all the flavors and thought it tasted fresh. Just proceed with warning if you get upset stomach easily. read more

We were able to make a same day reservation for 5 PM. Most of the other times were already fully booked that day, but the restaurant was not full for our seating. There were 3 chefs and each chef was serving maybe 6-8 guests. The service is fast and friendly. The counter is large and wraps around the restaurant in an oval. Our chef told us what each item was, but did not make much conversation outside of that. The quality of fish was good, and I enjoyed every piece. The quality and portion of fish is consistent with what I've had at other affordable omakase places, but they did not include a lot of rice with their fish which made it not as filling. It was $69 for 18 courses and sake in 75 minutes. The 18 courses included a soup and small dessert. Even though it was 18 courses, I definitely could've eaten a lot more after. I didn't drink, so the free sake didn't entice me, but my friend got a glass of free sake. I would come back here, but would also try other affordable omakase places. read more

I came here on a Tuesday night for an 8 PM reservation. This was booked 2 to 3 weeks in advance. When we got there the 7 PM seating was wrapping up and was fully booked and by the time we sat down at 8 PM, it was also fully booked We came for the BOGO promo of $69 and you can't beat the price. We also got a sake- the Haikkasan. It was described as light and dry and we liked it! We originally wanted their Soto sake that they were advertising on the bar, but they were out. The fish was pretty similar to any other omakase... It included snapper, yellowtail, mackerel, sea bass, scallop, salmon with foie gras, toro with caviar, bluefin tuna, cod, sweet shrimp with uni and a miso soup with prawn. It does not come with Otoro or Wagyu and that's why we ordered additional pieces the end, which was the Wagyu with foie gras... And we are really glad we did. It was good. The one hour time limit really makes it hard to connect with the chefs and they're just a machine going through the rounds. There was a decent amount of wasabi on each piece that does overpower a little. Good value and something to take advantage of now until 9/1/25 but I don't know if I'd come back full price. read more

I think an hour for a 13 course omakase is too fast.. should be at least for an hour and a half. It was kind of annoying that there were late comers so our chef had to make theirs in between making ours (there were only 2 of us in my group and the late customers were like a group of 4 or 5, so the wait was a bit longer for the next piece to be given to us.) I was really excited to try Koi during their BOGO omakase promotion, especially after having great experiences with similar deals at other spots in the city. Unfortunately, I left feeling disappointed. The meal started off strong--although the portions were a bit small--but things took a turn when I received a substitute piece due to my shrimp allergy. Instead of the Botan Ebi with uni listed on the menu, I was served a basic piece of salmon (pictured). For comparison, Shinn West offers the same shrimp + uni combo in their BOGO menu, and they swapped mine with another premium fish *plus* uni. Koi's substitution felt like a downgrade, and honestly, a bit of a letdown. After that, I found myself noticing other details--like a broken piece of eel--and began feeling more critical of the overall experience. It wasn't a bad meal by any means, but having a standout, high-value piece replaced with something so ordinary left a bitter taste, both literally and figuratively. Overall, it's good sushi and omakase, but the fish didn't feel the freshest and sometimes a little lukewarm even without being torched, the rice sometimes fell off and was sparse, and there is arguably far too much wasabi in the pieces that becomes a bit overpowering. Even post-promo the price would still be pretty competitive, but a lot of the experience right now is the excellent value on the promotion. read more

The staff was really nice and attentive, and you can tell they're working hard to keep things moving during this promo. Unsure what the prices are normally, but I thought this was a great deal. Koi is very much a no frills omakase experience. I wouldn't expect much interaction from the chefs and the sushi was very simple. For the price point, I think that's a very fair experience. They had one nigiri with uni and one with caviar so it does feel elevated in a sense. Koi is also fairly easy to get a reservation too. I was able to reserve and modify my reservation three days before with no issues. However, the only thing that knocked down the star is that even though I had a reservation, we still had to wait 15 minutes. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt because we were a party of 5, but my friend who was a party of 2 had a similar experience where they still had to wait 30 minutes. read more

However, we did not realize that the deal may impact the typical experience that is expected with omakase. The restaurant itself was quite nice, with moody and pretty decor. The seating is mostly sushi bar style, with high tables all around a central preparation area. Due to the fast turnover with the restaurant, we were starting to receive pieces to eat before we were even settled in and while the people directly next to us were asking us to adjust our seating and getting settled. The pieces were served quickly and seemed to be of good quality, though perhaps on the smaller size. With the cheerful ambiance, it was also hard to understand what type of fish we were being served at times. We were in and out with the 13 courses within 40 minutes, and I didn't feel like I had eaten a full meal. The layout is a huge rectangle counter and they really pack you in, like you can't even get inside your chair comfortably. The sushi itself was pretty good but at times way too much wasabi for each piece. I also found the pieces comically small for omakase (which I later found out because there's some BOGO deal happening right now?) The service was lacking and down right cold. They definitely are there to make sure you eat and get out for the next batch of customers which I find off-putting. From my previous omakase experience, they usually ask if you would like more of certain pieces you ate but they didn't even tell us it was done. I kinda assumed it was done when they handed me the tuna handroll which signals it's the end of a course. I didn't realize it was going to be a speed-eating experience. I would not have brought my friends here. It felt extremely rushed. From the moment we started to finish was 40 min. Tag on 5 min to pay our bill. Total sitting time spent there was 45 minutes. I had no idea it was a timed course or there was some BOGO deal happening so shame on me for not doing my research. (3.5/5) trying to eat our way through all of the under $100 omakase spots in NYC. koi was my first omakase spot in brooklyn, though it's very conveniently located near the barclay's center / atlantic terminal. for $69, you get an 18-course meal + unlimited sake which is an amazing deal! the 18-courses are made up of 15 nigiri, botan ebi atama miso soup, temaki hand roll, and a koi special dessert which, in our case, was matcha ice cream with red bean. one seating is for 75 minutes. we booked a reservation for 1:00 pm on a saturday and after being seated, we were quickly served water and the start of our complimentary sake (the house sake was actually very easy to drink and quite light). the sushi chefs continued prepping the fish, and we waited about 15-20 minutes before the first piece was served. not sure if that's typical, but the wait felt particularly long since we were so hungry! the pieces of fish on each nigiri were of a good size; however, the flavors were a bit monotonous and the chef went a bit heavy-handed with the wasabi. multiple people at the counter requested that they get less wasabi on their pieces (not sure if it was because of the quality of the wasabi that made it feel stronger or if the pieces actually had too much on it). all in all, you get a good deal for the price you're paying! read more

Another budget friendly omakase spot- $68 for 18 courses. Making reservations was easy. Very spacious inside as the seatings were circled around the entire sushi bar. As for the sushi, it was just okay, the rice had a bit too much vinegar in my opinion. Added radish or yuzu to a lot of their pieces which I wasnt a big fan of. The first few pieces tasted very similar. The pieces that stood out were the toro with caviar and king salmon with foie gras. If you are into sake, that would be a plus since its unlimited. TLDR: Food was just ok, 2/14 pieces were very good but everything else was mid. Presentation of the sushi wasn't great. Service felt like no one wanted to be there. Will not be coming back. To start off, I had a 1PM reservation and I understand that they open at 1PM but I really expected to get water a bit sooner than 20 minutes in. Food didn't begin serving till another 5 minutes after so 25 minutes into my reservation. We didn't get our last course until 2:15PM so I imagine anyone who has reservations then are probably pushed back even more. I wasn't in a rush so this didn't bother me that much but I imagine it would really suck for anyone coming not at the first slot. Secondly, a couple of my sushi pieces fell apart as the chef was putting it on my plate. He saw it happen and went on like nothing did. Presentation is pretty much what I'm paying for at these bar seat omakase places so... I did expect him to redo it or at least fix it. This also shows to the skill of the sushi chef. The rice was clearly too wet so it wasn't holding properly. However, my issue isn't even with picking up the sushi pieces -- it's that the sushi piece never made it properly to my plate from the sushi chefs hand. I think that's a basic ask. They also give an insanely small amount of rice so no one in my party was full after. I didn't realize rice was so expensive? Third, I really didn't think anyone wanted to work there that day. Our server looked miserable and our sushi chef never asked for any kind of feedback or start small talk like they usually do. My friend and I were so happy to reserve our 7 PM omakase here. It's a sacred privilege to try delicious prepared raw fish with your bestie. How did I find my experience? I noticed here the timing is punctual. Fortunately, there is a waiting area to wait if you're early. We were so excited to try this place that we were there 10 minutes early and so we sat in the nook spot where we were then ushered to our spot in the restaurant. The restaurant has a dark intimate atmosphere and it seems great for dates or groups of people. It could probably seat 30. There were a ton of omakase aficionados eating and just bonding with family and friends. I even saw a lady eating solo. One person at the end of the table got bottle service and the cork just popped right off. That seemed like so much fun. What a party! I had fun here, but it didn't seem super personable to me or my friend. We wanted to remember this moment, so I took a ton of photographs of the fish, but it's a bit dark inside. I was thinking of getting a la carte and perhaps get some cocktails, yet it seemed like there was a rush to get more people to meet their reservation times, so we left and went to grab drinks elsewhere. Highlights: the presentation of the sushi was beautiful. The fish was yummy. They offered us sake in cute blue cups. Lowlights: The vibes were okay. The omakase was not bad, and it was $68 per person. Some of the waitstaff and hostess was no fuss and straightforward, and perfunctory with the exception of one lady and one gentleman. A new omakase spot in Park Slope offering $68 14-course deal. You can totally get your money worth it with quality sushi and friendly service. We were lucky to try the fresh akami tuna which has just arrived in the morning! Their tuna and toro pieces were fantastic, literally melt in my mouth. They served milk pudding dusted with kinako as the final course, which was a nice touch to finish our feast. Their sushi aren't as fancy as other higher end omakase because they don't add many luxurious toppings. Yet it also means you can fully taste the freshness of their ingredients. The minimal garnishment they put, such as yuzu pepper, pickled wasabi and caviar, add a great depth to pull in the flavors. Was never really a big fan of omakase as I don't really think they are worth and this spot was in my opinion another example. Food was just okay, with maybe 3/12 pieces ( excluding the desert and soup) that tasted good. I've def had better omakase else where. They did serve A5 Wagyu but it wasn't anything special. I would just go to a dedicated wagyu spot if that was what I wanted. I think for a BOGO deal this will be extremely worth but at $68 I feel like you are overpaying. There are definitely better spots in the city for this price point and even better spots at the 75-85 price points. The ambiance could have definitely been better but neither the chef nor the server seemed like they wanted to be there and that pretty much kills the vibe. In my opinion just spend a bit more and go to a much better spot for better food quality and service. Unfortunately I will not be coming back. read more
