I went during their BOGO special and brought a friend with me. The service was well paced, we were out in less than an hour. The interior was very dark but it kept a minimalistic aesthetic. The actual fish was fresh and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I'm not usually a fan of eel because of its micro bones, this eel was soft and succulent and full of flavor. The overall experience was great and I'd def recommend it for hangouts or date nights.

Been here twice and the first time was a lil better but still a great experience! From fave to least, based on texture and taste: 1. Salmon w foie gras 2. Torched black cod 3. Chutoro 4. Toro hand roll 5. Torched black snapper w yuzu radish 6. Blue fin tuna with wasabi 7. Sea bass with chilli garlic 8. Yuzu snapper 9. Salmon roe with uni 10. Unagi 11. Amberjack 12. Sea scallop The miso soup was okay, very basic. I also ordered the otoro separately and it was my second fave bite. Not sure if I just missed it but I didn't see any soy sauce or wasabi offered on the side. The chef would explain each piece before serving it but it was very difficult to hear. I see a lot of other reviews with the same issue.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first omakase experience at Kimyo. It was affordably priced, all the fish was fresh, and we enjoyed the variety of courses. There was only one course that was a HUGE miss for me. The raw shrimp was disgusting. I could not swallow it. I've never had raw shrimp before so it's possible that it is gross anywhere, but I was shocked I was served something so terrible. The rest of the meal was DELICIOUS. We loved the scallops, variety of tuna cuts, toppings, etc. We enjoyed the affordable price point. The service was efficient, but it was lacking friendliness. I wasn't expecting much, but the staff almost felt alloyed by the guests' presence. I loved the ambiance with just one sushi bar and simple decor. The lighting and overall vibe felt like what to expect in an omakase bar.

So KIMYO Omakase (formerly Koi) has officially become our spot. We've gone about 5 or 6 times now, and every single visit has been a blast. The sushi chefs are kind and easy to talk to, the staff is warm and welcoming, and the fish is ridiculously fresh. Every piece that hits the plate feels like a little celebration. great balance of rice, seasoning, and toppings, nothing throwaway or boring. The room is dark, cozy, and a little chic, so you get that "night out" feel while still being super comfortable. And for what you get? The price is honestly hard to beat in the city. You walk out feeling full, happy, and like you got serious value for your money. This is the place I recommend when friends ask for omakase recs now.

I came here when they were doing the 2 for 1 BOGO omakase deal, which for the price is really solid. I'd give this spot 5 stars for BOGO, and probably only 4 if it was at the normal price. They were also super accommodating when adding an odd number of people to the reservation and only charging half price for them. I was impressed that even at ~$35/pp, they still provided what feels like their full menu - fatty tuna, scallop, uni, etc. I was expecting them to cut back on some of these pieces for a lunch BOGO, but was pleasantly surprised when they kept them in. Overall the ambiance was quite standard as well. I don't know if I'd come back on a normal deal, but for BOGO I think it's pretty unbeatable.

I revisited this spot when they rebranded to Kimyo and my exp fell flat. Firstly, the outside is a bit confusing bc they kept the original business name. The only distinction was the Kimyo sign on the floor. Otherwise, everything else is the same. The biggest downside of everything was that a lot of the pieces in the course were CHEWY. I'm not sure why - maybe the quality isn't what it used to be or the fish had been a few days, but that tainted my exp this time around. However, the chef was great and the staff were attentive. While it's a good deal, I probably wouldn't come back due to the quality of the pieces.

This is my second time here and I'm pleasantly surprised again! Last time I came for the grand opening bogo deal and now they have an anniversary bogo deal until September 1st. There's some slight differences: last time there was a dessert course and also unlimited sake. I wasn't sure about coming again because despite the great price point, I definitely had better quality omakase elsewhere. But alas, I couldn't resist a good deal especially for my birthday. And I'm so glad I came again! We got last minute reservations for 9pm on a Sunday. If you have a reservation for 3 people, the third person has half off. The ambiance is really nice, it's very casual. It doesn't feel stuffy, it feels like you can chat comfortably and just have a good time. I would say it's a pretty casual omakase experience not a fine dining type of experience. The sushi pieces were still smaller than other places but I feel like it was a good amount of food. I left feeling quite stuffed but granted I didn't arrive hungry. There was one piece that was a little fishy for me but overall, the pieces were quite good. I enjoyed the salmon with the foie gras and the sweet shrimp with uni. Also, they were so sweet with the birthday scoop of ice cream. Nothing fancy but it feels nice to be celebrated. They sang happy birthday and lit a candle on a scoop of matcha ice cream. Overall: I had a great second time. I would definitely recommend coming to check out the bogo deal before it ends. It's really unbeatable for the price point.

I didn't have high expectations for this place as I tried it before when it was Koi Omakase, but my friend won a giveaway so I was willing to give it a second chance. Just to note, they have not changed their sign from Koi to Kimyo yet, so look for the Koi Omakase sign! Our sushi chef served 4 of us and was quick and kept track of the pieces well since we were at different stages. I am happy to say that Kimyo is much better than Koi. At the prior place, the pieces were a little boring and didn't taste as fresh. Now they serve the pieces with more flavorful toppings, I especially liked the yuzu pepper, chili garlic, and pickled wasabi. The $49 for the 14 course omakase that included 12 pieces nigiri, 1 hand roll, and 1 miso soup, it was well worth it!

    Aya E.

Ordered: 13-course Omakase (complimentary; regular price ~$69 BOGO deal): 11 nigiri pieces, 1 hand roll, 1 miso soup Aya's take: I love omakase and Koi is offering one of the best deals you can get now! Normally, ~$69 per person but until September 1st, it's ~$69 for 2 people! Thankfully I won a giveaway and was excited to give them a try. If you're looking for fancy omakase with exceptionally high quality fish, this is not the place for you. I would say it's a beginner or more casual omakase experience. Of the 11 nigiri pieces, I really enjoyed the King Salmon Foie Gras, Otoro Caviar, Botan Ebi Uni, Hotate (scallop), and Unagi (eel). The rest were fine but majority of the pieces were white fish so I didn't find them to be exciting or unique. Check them out before September 1st to get the best deal!

    Kitty C.

For the price they offer, it was worth the price. Everything was so fresh, I will say things went pretty quickly, it didnt feel like you had so many pieces. I really like the place and will comeback when I get the chance

Such a good deal for the BOGO promotion 69$ Upon arrival got seated pretty quickly on the reservation time, nice decor and view of the courses being assembled. The fish were fresh and delicious and the flavoring and tastes worked perfectly together. 13 courses

For the bogo deal this is worth it. I do think they are more geared towards the Americanized palate. A lot of the sushi at times just had too much wasabi and the same goes for too much soy sauce. The fish was ok but I didn't feel like we had knockouts until half way through. The service is fine, they're pretty attentive with drinks. The Toro with caviar was my favorite and that number 6 of the 13 courses, including the miso soup. I was pleasantly surprised with the miso soup. It was prawn based and it was delicious. For other omakases I've had in the past they've just felt more intimate and I've enjoyed it more when they let the fish speak for the dish, instead of overpowering it with wasabi or soy sauce.

    Xue Lin L.

BOGO omakase so $69 plus tax and tip for two people - can't complain at all. I'd honestly come back for the shrimp miso soup alone. The shrimp flavor was amazing and a great addition to the omakase. Each piece was fresh and my favorite was the mackerel. This is a casual omakase spot where they're trying to get you in and out in an hour and are super efficient with serving you the food. Do not expect a traditional omakase experience, although you really shouldn't for the price point. Great to come with a group of friends as there's tons of seating.

Food: 3/5 I'm a huge sushi fan, so I was excited when I saw a deluxe sashimi set on the menu. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark. The scallop was thinly sliced and lacked the rich texture I was hoping for. The salmon and other cuts were decent, but short and oddly shaped--chunky yet small, which made the whole presentation feel a bit off for something labeled deluxe. We also tried to branch out and ordered the short rib entree. For $21, it was shockingly small--definitely a single-person portion, not sharable. I added extra ikura to a salmon donburi bowl for $2, but it was barely a teaspoon's worth--just enough to say it was there. Oddly, the salmon slices in that bowl were thinner than the sashimi we had just eaten, and overall, it left me still hungry even after sharing a maki roll. Lastly, my husband ordered a green salad, which somehow took the entire meal service to arrive. When it finally came, it was just plain romaine, cucumbers, radish, and dressing. For a dinner that clocked in at over $150 (after tip), we definitely left underwhelmed. Service: 3/5 This part wasn't bad, just confusing. We were seated quickly, but the pacing of the meal was strange. Our seaweed salad and soups came out promptly, but the green salad came last, after the hot dishes and nearly after my husband finished eating. Also, a small thing--but when I'm paying $16 for four oysters, I want to know what kind they are. The menu just said "West Coast oysters," but our server couldn't tell us the variety or origin. Not a huge deal, but it added to a general lack of polish that didn't quite match the pricing. I don't think I'd return. For the price, there are better sushi options in Brooklyn with higher quality, better portions, and clearer service. Still, I appreciate new spots opening up in the neighborhood, and I'm always happy to try something new. Hopefully they refine the menu and service with time.

We started with the salmon belly carpaccio which I'd say isn't really a carpaccio because the salmon isn't sliced as thinly as you'd expect. But! I mention that just to set expectations. Nomenclature aside, it's an excellent appetizer. Served in a truffle and ponzu sauce, the salmon is lightly seared which yields two different textures to the fish. It practically melts in your mouth. Highly recommend this dish. For my entree I went with the trio don, which is 6 pieces of sashimi served over your choice of plain or sushi rice (sushi rice for me). The fish was fresh and flavorful. The portion was perfect for me. My boyfriend ordered a yellowtail roll and enjoyed that as well. We also shared a carafe of the cold house sake. I'd definitely come back and try more items on the menu. It's great for sharing and trying new dishes. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the prices were very reasonable.

Lots of people came in and out for takeout orders so that seems to be more of the target audience. Service was quick and polite, we were there until 9:30 and they definitely seemed ready for us to be out of there before the 10PM closing time. As for the specialty rolls, there were some pretty creative options - don't shy away from seemingly odd combinations because the flavors really do work well together. I appreciated the rice:fish ratio on all the rolls, the rice was a thin layer letting the flavor of the other ingredients really come through. The plain spicy tuna roll on the other hand was filled with spicy tuna mixed with something crunchy - maybe puffed rice? It seemed to be an unnecessary filler, I would have preferred just fish. I enjoyed the Lovers Dream and Golden Sunset roll the most. While I was debating it while ordering, in hindsight I would definitely get two rolls per person, maybe more if you're really hungry.
