New Thai restaurant in SLC!!! New owner but same name Ekamai. The menu is different from the old Ekamai. My friends and I wanted some Thai food and we gave this place a try knowing that it's been sold to a new owner who himself is a chef from Thailand. We were impressed by his homemade food! Which is hard to find in Utah. Like homemade fishcake, this is the only place (to my knowledge) that makes fishcake from scratch!!! Worth $9 for sure. Their wings are super flavorful. Not just deep fried wings. Crispy pork belly dish was very good. Lastly! We were super impressed by his (again) homemade Creme brulee!!!! The owner said that he just bought the restaurant not too long ago and he's still hiring staffs. So they might be a little short on staff but his food for sure hits the spot!! read more

I admittedly hadn't been here in a while, but I was jonesing for some pad Thai and they were still open at 9:30 pm. Holy hell the construction just outside! Do yourself a favor and take Westminster or another side street to the north side of 1400E. I'm afraid this restaurant will succumb to the fate of many Sugarhouse institutions destroyed by months of construction. Anyway, the pad thai was perfect (tofu) and I loved that the peanut topping was on the side. The spice level at medium was great and it was not too sweet. Their online ordering was much easier than a lot of restaurants and it did not involve the hidden fees or upselling of DoorDash. Go got it!!! read more

Visiting SLC this week. Our son lives there. He recommended this place for great Thai. Our lunch was very tasty from the curry soup to the fried rice. PadThai was great Thai hot. The won tons were also great. Both those and the egg rolls tasted very fresh. Everyone enjoyed their lunch including our grandson. Service was another story. We got there for a late lunch and our waitress seemed quite disturbed we came in so late. She was wrapping silverware at another table when I tried to get her attention. She looked up at me and said "what" from across the room. We were the only people there. In the service industry, if your having a bad day, leave it at the door or it will cost you $$$ Once again the food on point. Maybe I'll get it to go next time. read more

Decent Thai food, not the best though. Great location though with a patio across from sugarhouse park, and a cozy home feel to it. I got the fish cakes which the server said were made in house. I thought they were ok.. very fishy which I didn't mind for the first couple but started to get old. Also some parts were a little cold still. The salmon and panang was much better, but also could've been warmer though it wasn't cold. The panang was rich and creamy, and the salmon was pretty good. It was slightly tough on the outside, not quite breading but the inside was still soft and flaky for the most part. I wasn't too impressed with this visit but if I was nearby craving Thai food I would try them again and there were some other things I wanted to try on their chef specialties menu section, particularly the Short Rib Massamun Currry. read more

I hate to give negative reviews but we were really on the fence about eating here as the reviews were either really good or really bad. Well you can see on what side our experience fell. There might be some good tried and true dishes but we didn't get them. My suggestion to the owners/managers is to streamline your menu to offer things that you can realistically fulfill. I had the asparagus shiitake dish - the asparagus was old and slimy, maybe one total mushroom. Huge miss. The other dish we had was supposed to be a BBQ pork special and it was dry and tough. The house salad was just spring mix -- not washed, so it had old, rotten leaves in it. The dumplings were basic, but something that is pretty hard to mess up. read more

Located inside a house (yes, the door is a residential door that opens and stays open unless you pull it to close behind you). Inside still has a home-y structure. There was a legitimate unused fireplace, but they decided a tiny fake plug in fireplace would fit the vibe of the house better (as seen in my attached photo). A room divider separated the dining area from the kitchen. I ordered the red curry, and it was a tad bit too sweet for my taste buds. The amount of chicken I received in the curry was more than enough, it was more than the liquid part of the curry itself. But I do love meat, so I see that as a positive. Excellent takeout service!! Food was ready about 15-20 minutes after I called it in. They had different bins for placing your pen and receipt after signing. I enjoyed their tom yum soup, pineapple curry, and brown rice. The pad thai was too dry and bland for my preference. I really liked the fried tofu! The soup was the star of the show! Spice levels are 1-5. 5 being the spiciest. 4 was perfect for me with a nice kick and gentle runny nose. It wasn't nearly spicy enough to the point of numbness and tears. I am a huge fan of Ekamai's curries. I love the yellow curry and the massaman curry. I would say it's the best Thai curry I've had in Salt Lake. The Drunken noodles are also great! I've tried the Pad Thai a couple of times and I haven't been super impressed, but I've heard good things from other so maybe it's somewhat inconsistent. It's a fairly small location right across from Sugar House park. I've only done take out, but it seems like a quaint dining experience! I definitely recommend getting any/all the curries from here! I've driven past Ekamai at least forty thousand times and I didn't realize it was a Thai restaurant until I searched "Thai" on Yelp. ''Twas the season when I was greeted by the large Christmas wreath on the restaurant door. It's an interestingly small venue which I was not expecting. It feels very homey based on the short few minutes I was there grabbing our takeout. An order of the Drunken Noodles with chicken for me, and an order of veggie Pad See Ew for my wife. We also got a Mix Green House Salad and Mango with Sticky Rice to share. I've regretfully had rather limited experience with Thai food, mostly venturing into the curry territory in the past. If these drunken noodles are any indication of what I've been missing, I've got a lot of making up to do. A perfect mix of the sweet and salt with just a hint of spice. The vegetables were fresh and juicy and the chicken was flavourful to match. My only gripe was I wish the overall dish was just just a touch more full of flavour. Each bite left something to be wanted. Mix Green House Salad was rather disappointing. The dressing was extremely vicious and the flavour was much too overpowering. It gave the whole salad a pretty nasty texture. Mango and sticky rice was delicious of course! The ratio of rice to mango was slightly off, but ce la vie. A great showing by Ekamai! Literally the worst place I've been to in a long time I heard good things but was nothing but disappointment appetizers were microwaved I had some fish curry too and it was literally the fishiest salmon I've ever had. This quite little Thai place just off 2100 s across from Sugarhouse Park is quite the surprise! It doesn't look like much from the outside, or inside really but Ekamai is a secret thai find in Sugar House. Their prices are very fair, with a cheap lunch menu for the weekdays. There was no wait and decently quite inside. Employees were attentive and quick to get our order and food out. Portions were very good for the price and the food was delicious. The only comment about the food is that everything runs a bit on the sweet side. We'll definitely be returning for their pad thai and curry. read more

On a semi-unregular basis we will dine with some of our dear friends who are much too old to be hipsters, but when it comes to their culinary preferences they like to fancy themselves exotic. It is almost like they are anti-America as they shun the staples of pizza, burgers, chicken and pork (bless their hearts). On this social occasion they were throwing out suggestions left and right from all international corners of this planet. Thai seemed the most mellow and safest, so Ekamai here we came. First, I think we got the best table in the place at it was at a large window over looking Sugarhouse Park with a grand view of our beautiful mountains. But, make sure you throw your glance wide and don't focus on immediately out the window as their landscaping left much to be desired. Large weeds and mid-clean up project that was started 3 months ago and never finished. I know it seems picky, but that has an influence on me. The service was also great. Oh (real name) was pleasant and attentive and made everything feel authentic. They kept my water glass full which is no small feat as I drink water like I am headed out into the Sahara. Honestly the food was hit or miss for me. The highlight was the soup we started with. A warm, deep flavor with large pieces of chicken. I kind of wish I had just gotten a large bowl of that for my entree. Due to my self imposed pallet restrictions, I am not an expert of curry or pad tai, but they both seemed a little off. Curry seemed thinner than desired and the pad tai made me feel border line bovine with a strong grassy flavor. Cute little place. It was my first time here. The table setting with the cloth napkin is a nice touch. The staff was attentive and friendly. I ordered the green curry while my partner got the fried tofu, mixed veggies and peanut sauce. Both were delicious and presented beautifully. Green curry is normally a spicy curry but mine was not spicy at all, actually our waiter didn't ask us our heat preference so we forgot too until our dishes were ready and we heard another staff asks a group their preferences. Luckily, it was still good without the heat. However, it was a sweeter green curry than other restaurants and the basil was subtle. Finally made my way to this place. There were 3 of us in total, my buddy opted for the buffet while we ordered off the menu. The buffet looked like flavorless food that was watered down and leftover from the night before. We ordered 3 things to share, the Tom Kha Gai soup, the green curry, and the salmon with penang curry. It is very unfortunate that a Thai restaurant doesn't use much coconut milk in their curries. Not sure if they are trying to save money or don't know the proper way to prepare curry? The only thing that was remotely decent was the penang curry, it was thick and had some okay flavor. I see a lot of excellent reviews on here and not sure if my taste buds are off on this place? I will stick to Tea rose diner and Simply Thai for decent food in the Wasatch Front. read more

Met up with some good friends at the Sugarhouse location for happy hour 1/2 price appetizers. This is a special they run from 5-7pm. Great deal, our total bill was only $12 and we ordered 3 apps. It is a really small restaurant but they were accommodating to our young kids. I really liked the spring rolls and the chicken satay. Spring rolls we ordered with shrimp and you got 6 small rolls which were excellent. It came with a peanut sauce and some kind of spicy sauce. The chicken satay was simple and cooked perfect. It came with a peanut sauce also. Lastly, we ordered the curry dumplings, probably won't order those again. The sauce was a little spicy compared to what I was expecting. Overall it was a weird dish. I am a bit of a Thai food snob. I rarely ever give such a poor review, but we are Thai Food connoisseurs andI cannot allow people exploring cuisines to think this is representative of the wonderful culinary experience that is properly cooked and spiced Thai Food. The food here was so incredibly bland and devoid of spices that you could have fed it to a newborn baby. The vegetables in multiple dishes were on the very back end of usability, certainly NOT fresh. The larb chicken literally tasted like boiled bland chicken with wilted chopped lettuce thrown on top. The chicken satay were huge very thick pieces of bland unmarinated tough chicken and they gave you such a small amount of peanut sauce that even if you used it all for one satay it was insufficient to get down this dry bland tough chicken. The chicken pad Thai was so bland and only the outside noodles had any sauce the inside noodles were all stuck together and were devoid of sauce. I could go on, but I am going to look for lunch somewhere else. What a waste of $68.... read more

This place used to be decent, but at some point during the pandemic their quality really declined. Maybe they cut corners to make up for money lost to Doordash fees? The last 2 times I got takeout here, the rice noodles were all clumped together, and there were a couple rotten bits on the vegetables. Ekamai used to at least be better than Thai Archer, but now it's worse, and they're pretty mediocre. I like the location, but now I'm never going back, so I'm leaving a 1 * rating in the hopes something else replaces this place someday. read more

I thought I would give this thai restaurant a try by Sugarhouse park with my mother who was in town. We order an appetizer of the fresh rolls. The roll itself was quite good; you get 2 large rolls ($8) per order cute up in 1/3's. They serve the rolls with a thai onion dipping sauce but I prefer my rolls with peanut sauce. The only problem was the amount of sauce was so tiny it would go with maybe 2 of the cute pieces. However, the flavor was extremely delicious. For our entree, we had the pumpkin curry ($12) with tofu. They do not ask for a spice level and the curry may have been a bit too spicy for me so keep that in mind if you don't do well with heat levels, such as myself! The tofu was fried perfectly; not too hard and not very soft. The quantity was enough to split between 2 people and have a third portion for leftovers. Prices are a $2-3 more expensive than other thai places but quantity of entrees compensates. read more
