For my last meal in AK I wanted it to be something special. I looked up close by restaurants and this was by far the best rated. So glad I came here for a meal. They were booked up for the evening but the lady at the desk found me a table as I was there right when they opened. This is a small place in a strip mall but what a gem. My server Erin was top notch and was very knowledgable of the menu. He suggested a salad for the starter that was Tomato, watermelon, basil and arugula. Tasted as good as it looked. Very refreshing salad. For my main I wanted to try the ship but Erin said unless I enjoyed spicy I should steer clear. So glad I did, I had the Scallops with risotto. The preparation was magnificent and some of the best I have ever had. For dessert I splurged and had the chocolate shuffle. It also did not disappoint. The prices were reasonable and in par with the quality of the food. Overall one of the best meals I have ever had!! First thing...I check out the wine list. Rombauer Chardonnay; my favorite white. There are just a handful of restaurants in Anchorage that serve this. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't sold by the glass, but guess what? Rombauer Merlot by the glass! I'm down! I had the lamb on the rare to medium rare side. Perfectly cooked. My friend had the wilted spinach salad and roasted chicken. Again, tasty and well prepared. Great service, and for the level of dining, good value. Anchorage doesn't have many fine dining restaurants like this with diversity of deliciousness at a fair value. I was impressed! read more

We ordered the scallops and black cod entrees as part of our fine dining experience in Alaska. Both were delicious! The scallops were cooked perfectly and the cod was literally "melt in your mouth." The one night we were in Anchorage, we stopped in at the Kincaid Grill. We pulled up to the restaurant and looked at each other a bit hesitant...we had arrived, but it was a corner spot with a large purple sign in a strip mall-looking environment. Ehh? Were we in the wrong place? Nope. We were correct, so in we headed...and thank goodness we did. With a clean crisp interior, the atmosphere inside was completely unexpected from the outside. T started with the pork belly with pickled cabbage, topped with polenta croquettes, and a pinot reduction scattered with scallions. Delicious and perfectly balanced with a range of textures, this was T's favorite dish of the night. My father started with the half shell oysters which were served with an innovative citrus tobasco granita providing even more chilliness and zing to the dish; along with the overwhelming freshness, this dish was also a winner. My mother and I both had the obvious choice and the best I've ever had: the steamed king crab with drawn butter, lemon, and asparagus. I had high hopes, I mean we were in Alaska for goodness sake! But even with my high hopes, I was not prepared for the deliciousness of this dish. I have never experienced such fresh, tender, sweet, and altogether absolute perfect crab dish, and this dish will be in my mind forever! My father, a fellow crab-lover, didn't even lift his head to try more than a bite of ours as he was too invested in his own dish, which he again claimed was the best of the night: the cioppino with crab merus, shrimp, scallops and fin fish in a light tomato fume. A large enough portion for 2 or 3, he made a large dent due to the deliciousness but was ultimately defeated. Overall, head to Kincaid Grill in Anchorage if you are looking for the freshest of the freshest local seafood perfectly lightly prepared to let the ingredients shine. read more

A six course special menu for New Year's Eve where the weakest dish was probably the dessert which was a little sweet, yet we ate every morsel. The leek and arugula bisque with a Kodiak scallop was amazing. High quality service and high quality flavorful food. One of our most enjoyable meals as a couple ever. Probably the best place I've been to in town. Great service, best food and small place but intimate dinner. Went here with my husband on a whim and will be back with my parents and will ask for our server Kim again. We had the crab cakes and then shared the seafood soup and mushroom salad which Kim brought out on separate plates for us so we didn't have to share a plate which I thought was so nice. Then I had the beef medallions and my husband had the halibut special and they were both so good we kept stealing food from each other. Excellent recommendations of wine from Kim also. Finished it off with creme brûlée and cheesecake with port wines (again excellent suggestions from Kim). I will be back for every special occasion and "just because". Even left with flowers from all of the tables because we were the last couple there. Kim deserves a raise and so does the chef! read more

Deliciousness. I had the pepita-crusted rack of lamb, partner had chicken with shiitake mushrooms and kale. Both were great--tender and flavorful. Good wine. Nice ambiance, with reproductions of French posters, white linens, and classy wine scents wafting. However, details make this not quite perfect. Our waiter forgot the Caesar salads that we had ordered, and it took a while for the entrees to arrive while we waited in vain for the salads and were pretty hungry. He didn't know what the sauce on my lamb was and had to go back to the kitchen to find out. That said, he threw in a free dessert, which was a nice gesture. The menu was worn and had stains on it. The lamb had lots of pepper on it, which overwhelmed the taste somewhat. Though it didn't ruin it, I have had an upset stomach. Maybe next time I'll tell them to be easy on the pepper. It was that good (despite the spice). A pretty great restaurant in a nondescript strip mall with bits of trash scattered on the parking lot... Should they look into cleaning up or is that ANC local color? :D KG, perfect you're not, but neither are we. So we'll be back. read more

We had three amazing meals at this restaurant in our four day trip to Anchorage. Both the food and service were amazing. The lamb chops were exceptional. In our three trips, we tried almost everything on the menu. All very creative and exceptionally crafted. If you are in Anchorage, please do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant. We are foodies and have travelled all around the world. Kincaid Grill is in our top five. If we are ever in Anchorage again, there is no doubt we will visit Kincaid again. read more

We went for birthday dinner last night. I am sorry it took us so long to get to this place because it's excellent. We had Oysters Casino and Lamb lollipops for appetizers and they were both perfectly cooked. The beet salad was fresh and the dressing was flavorful and not overpowering. We tried the New York steak, the scallops, and the buttermilk fried chicken. The risotto with the scallops is some of the best I've had. The greens with the chicken are a new favorite! If you're looking for somewhere in town that quiet and warm, with excellent service and no bad or even mediocre dishes, Kincaid is a top choice. Will become a regular for us! read more

Kincaid grill has an awesome dining atmosphere! I got the Halibut special; perfectly pan baked halibut with a pineapple mango salsa served with babybok Choy and red potatoes in a red curry sauce. It was delicious! My boyfriend had the seared scallops with green beans and they were cooked to perfection. We shared the Kobe beef slider and it was melty mouthwatering heaven. We finished our meal with the chocolate pot de creme with fresh berries and whip cream. Ahhhhhhhhhhmazing! Oh, the fresh Rosemary cheese bread they serve you at the beginning of your meal, honestly the best rustic bread I have ever had at a resturaunt it was warm, fresh, nice crisp crust, soft moist bread on the inside, seriously I can see why people become addicted to carbs with stuff like that! Five stars for quality of food and beverage Four stars for dining room atmosphere, the chipped paint and ventilation ducts need an upgrade. Four stars for service, our waiter seemed a little forgetful and yes fine dining is about socialization and enjoying the meal however our waiter seemed just a little too preoccupied by staring at tables instead of servicing for easily spending over a 100$ for a meal for two I expect a little more attentiveness. read more

I tried Kincaid Grill after several friends and family recommending it and it lived up to my expectations! First of all, you're looking at an above average restaurant: classy, with exceptional wait staff (I went in the early evening on Saturday). The menu was in the $30+ range and I had the rack of lamb which was lovely. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their entrees as well. I was surprised at the inclusion of a kids menu at this up-scale type of restaurant. Their website does tout itself as good food without the "attitude" though, so it was nice to have a birthday dinner with my entire family and not just the grown-ups! Overall, I was impressed with Kincaid Grill's execution. The location is tucked away and small but the food was nice and in Anchorage, it's hard to find quality food. My only complaint would be to urge the chef to diversify the menu a little or even expand it slightly. In 4-5 star restaurants I've frequented in the lower 48, I rarely see an entree consisting of shrimp as the main protein. And my 10 year old nephew ordered the grilled shrimp from the kids menu and received a plate of TWO shrimp! Even for a kids menu (and at $10!), that was ridiculous. However, I would return and recommend it to others. read more

Chef Al always does it right! I used to live within walking distance of this phenomenal little gem located in the Jewel Lake area of Anchorage, AK. It's a VERY short cab ride from Ted Stevens Int'l Aprt. Never had a sub-rate meal here. I recommend the filet mignon with waffle cut potatoes and for dessert, the Alaska blackberry wine with anything chocolate......you won't regret eating here. read more

I'm so glad that I went with my gut to dine at Kincaid Grill. First and foremost, I have to thank Jerzey. He was more a guide than a server. During my discussion with Jerzey, I mentioned that I wanted a taste of Alaska as this was my first visit. He mentioned it to the chef, who sent a complementary amuse bouche of their King Crab cakes. The crab was so fresh and tasty that I felt transported to a crab shack. I followed with cold water local Alaskan oysters. They were plump with the perfect heat from a Tabasco garnicha. Next, a tasty Beet salad with Chèvre. For entree, I had the King salmon with truffle hollandaise. It was spectacularly prepared. I've never had a better piece of salmon. I'll be dreaming of it for years. The accompanying harcot verts and creamy mash potatoes were terrific. For dessert, I had Pot du creme and a Smith-Woodhouse port. Excellent. For the perfect finish, I had the Sumatran French Press coffee. For wine, I had glasses of White Oak Cabernet and Wild Horse Pinot noir. Their warmed greek olive and potato rosemary had very nice flavor. It's too bad Kincaid Grill is 4300 miles from my home, otherwise I would eat here at least once per week! read more

If you want to be able to accidentally spill an entire glass of red wine all over your table, chairs, floor, and table next to you and NOT feel like a complete idiot, this is the place for you. The sweet kid that came over to clean it up for me while I buried my head in shame reassured me over and over it happens all the time, and he covered it up with a white napkin.. they also promptly brought me a new glass and didn't charge me for it. This place is everything I want in a fine dining experience. The atmosphere is subtle, refined, and quiet. The wine list is well rounded. The menu has a great selection without being overloaded. And the overall attention to detail is astounding, but more on that later. I ordered the Gorgonzola fondue to start. My wife can never pass up the oysters. The fondue was creamy and pungent and paired well with the chutney. The oysters were small and sweet. For the salad/soup portion, I choose to go with the poached pear salad and Jen went with the gumbo. She loved the gumbo and agreed with Kim, our amazing server, that the gumbo rivals or beats that of New Orleans. The main course I choose to go with the Kings Prawns, Giant shrimp, creamy creole sauce, sausage, and white cheddar grits. It was an amazing combo. Perfectly seasoned. Jen went with the Salmon. Salmon is hard to do right. I generally don't order to out because so many people get it wrong. That was not the case here. All of our food was well thought out, balanced, and perfectly seasoned. However, even the best food can be ruined by bad service. This was NOT the case here. The service is top notch. Kim was more than our server, she was our guide. She knew the menu and meals, she knew the wine list. She even knew about the butter! It was amazing to me the level of service that she provided, that Kincaid Grill provides. She had looked at the reservations before hand. She recommended wines. She told us of her love affair with the Gorgonzola Fondue. She steered me in the right direction for our meals by describing them perfectly. Kim's service during our meal put the crowning star on an already great meal. read more

Went here a few weeks ago with my family and we were very impressed with the food. Maybe it was just having fresh halibut after a long, long winter, but it was spectacular. In fact, everything we got was amazing. The restaurant itself is pleasant. There is no great view or anything (unless you consider a parking lot and Jewel Lake road a great view) but the interior is tastefully decorated and comfortable. The service was good. One drawback might be the older and more conservative clientele at the place. It does not have the kind of quirky "fun" vibe that Bear's Tooth or Crush have. That being said, this can be a plus too as it is quieter and seems more sophisticated. Then there is the price. It's not cheap eating here... but, in the case of Kincaid Grill at least, you get what you pay for! read more

After my last salmon disaster, I needed my favorite food to redeem itself. First off, this restaurant wasn't what I expected. Going off of the name, I'm used to seeing mediocre style setting and food when the word 'grill' is in the name. I was completely wrong...and completely under-dressed. The scenery seemed somewhat classy because of the dressy crowd, fancy table settings...and I wore gray sweats and a fleece jacket, esp. my hair was hat hair. Enough of that. I ordered Alaskan style crab, which before eating seemed kind of blah. The name wasn't as fancy as the other dishes, but never judge an entree by the name. It was fantastic. I didn't eat the veggies, tried it though. The place of venue was out of place. An outdoor mall with this type of restaurant. Especially with a tastee freeze a couple steps down on the other side of the small mall, I was just surprised. Anything is possible. read more

This was easily our best-and most expensive-meal during our week in Alaska. As other reviewers have noted, the exterior of Kincaid Grill is very understated. It is located in the corner of a strip mall. The inside, however, is comfortable and nice to the extent that my husband felt a bit underdressed in his t-shirt and jeans. Since we were on vacation, cost was no object and we ran the whole gamut-wine, appetizer, salads, entrees, coffee, and dessert. Our bill for all of that was on par with most other fine dining restaurants...and it was oh so good. All of our courses, from the crab cake appetizer to the seafood entrees to dessert, were delicious and beautifully presented. There were some interesting ingredients used too, which resulted in a unique and unexpected combination of flavors. For example, jalapeno avocado sorbet seemed (to us) like an odd choice to put on top of grilled king salmon, but it worked. Service was excellent all around. We always appreciate it when they keep your water glass filled and promptly clear the table. The only downside is we dined at Kincaid Grill during our last night in Anchorage and we live so far away.... read more

My family and I stopped by here for a late dinner (around 8:45) and not many other places were open. When we arrived we didn't have high expectations but after walking in and being seated we were pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing, the Beef Short Rib Pappardelle was perfectly cooked, as was the Alaskan Halibuts. We also ordered the crab cakes and the seafood fusion soup. The crab cakes were by far some of the best we've ever had, and the soup was not like anything we've tried before. My sister wanted to order something not on the menu, but our waiter, Jerzy, and the chefs made it happen. The service was amazing. Lake, an employee here, constantly refilled our waters and asked if we needed anything. Give this place a try!!! You will enjoy it. read more

We arrived in Anchorage at dinner time and were too exhausted to think about what we wanted to eat. We were on our way to the B&B we were staying at and spotted Kincaid Grill from the intersection at the stoplight. I noticed the wine bar sign--I'm a sucker for wine. After dropping our bags at the B&B we headed back. We walked in and it is a small place, cloth tablecloths and looked nicer than we were dressed, we'd been hiking at Denali National Park earlier in the day. We didn't have a reservation but they had a few high tables and bar seating. The hostess was very accommodating and sweet. We ordered a bottle of wine and dinner. Husband had halibut and I had buttermilk fried chicken. Everything was so flavorful and perfect proportions. I highly recommend this place for anyone who lives here and hasn't tried it. I am hoping for some good steak but the only steak hey had was a filet mignon. No NY or ribeye. I had the surf and turf with prawns. It was good but nothing exceptional. The Caesar salad had a lot of cheese but overall decent. I didn't eat the salmon or scallops. I wanted a #Thinsulin approved dinner and they were able to replace the mashed potatoes with sauté kale.
