This Asian buffet shares the same space with the Days Inn, and looks like it was a Denny's at one point in time. That said, the entryway didn't look too inviting and appears to be a relic of a bygone era when this hotel was a classier place. However, upon entry, I did get a very welcoming greeting and was promptly seated. The server was cheerful and took my drink order and welcomed me to help myself to the buffet. The dining room appeared to be jaded, but there was a TV which was showing the New Orleans Saints football game when I was there. The buffet itself was a little bit on the smaller side, with two hot food bars and one cold one. However, there was also a stir-fry station and sushi. The food appeared to be fresh, but were the basic offerings from a typical Asian buffet. There were crab legs but they did not look very appetizing. However, the frog legs and the chicken wings were fresh out of the deep fryer when I was there, and were probably the best items on the buffet. Staff regularly tended to the buffet to ensure that it stayed fresh and my server made sure my drink was always filled. There is a freezer in the front filled with little single-serving cups of ice cream that reminded me of the school cafeteria when I was in grade school. The buffet is a bit on the pricey side compared to others of the same caliber. However, the service is excellent which it why I gave it 4 stars instead of three. The King Buffet is a little bit out of the way for me, but I would consider going back the next time I am in Jennings. read more

Yeah, I'm gonna be that guy. As a result of a major life decision, I was on a road trip, and I randomly decided to stay the night in Jennings, Louisiana. King Buffet was located right next to the hotel I was staying at. I looked it up on Yelp. Only 2 reviews??? I can be influential for once! I decided to take a risk and see what was up. Beforehand, I stopped at a convenience store to pick up some beer - I had to pregame for this one. I asked the clerk what she thought of King Buffet, and she had nice things to say. Therefore, I went in with somewhat high expectations. I chugged 3 beers, and I was on my way. I even went at her recommended time of 8:30pm. This seemed late for a buffet, but hey, I'm not the local. As soon as I walked inside, I stepped in some jello that hadn't been cleaned up. If I had been wearing nice shoes, I would have been pissed. Luckily, I'm a poor man with dirty shoes, so I let it slide. I stood in front of the counter, acknowledged the gentleman working there and patiently waited as he attended to another customer who was there before me. As I waited, another man walked inside after me. I mention this because once the worker had finished satisfying the individual who was there before me, he skipped me over entirely and attended to the man who entered AFTER I had already presented myself. Huh? I mean I don't know - maybe the other guy is a Made Man or a regular loyal customer - I don't know. All I know is I was in the restaurant before him - I should be attended to first. It's not like he was with an eager family or anything, so I felt very ignored. But again, no big deal - I let it slide. But by this point, I kinda had a bad taste in my mouth, even 3 beers deep and very hungry. Eventually, I was taken care of, and I was finally able to check out the buffet. I can give an abridged summary here. The selection was very small for a dedicated Chinese buffet. Some of the items (general tso's chicken, green beans, the deep fried sushi roll) were actually very decent - bordering on great quality. Others, well they weren't so lucky. Time to complain (for reals) - the teriyaki chicken was inedible, the sushi selection was abysmal, the hot and sour soup was awful - for a place with such a small selection, you'd think they would be decent at what they do offer. All I can say is that it was quite the mixed bag. And most importantly, nothing stood out and made me go "yup, this is worth it". There was no item that ultimately justified me coming to the buffet. I should have stayed inside my hotel room and ordered pizza. At the end of the meal, my bill was just over $13. Keep in mind, I ordered water as my drink. That's pretty expensive for a mediocre Chinese buffet with very limited options. Maybe that's how it is in Louisianna, but where I come from, that wouldn't fly. If the selection was more diverse and if the food was better, I could probably see it. All things considered, King Buffet was pretty weak. It earns 2 stars because it does do some things well. But it's very mediocre compared to the buffets I've experienced before in AZ, FL and IL. Is a 2 star rating kinda harsh? Yeah, but it's justified based on my experience. I've been to buffets worthy of 3 stars, and King Buffet just isn't there. The selection is too small, the poor sushi experience was a major disappointment and there were just too many screw-ups for me to rate it any higher. Perhaps (like most buffets) King has better days and times - you might have a great experience. But unfortunately in my case, I have to rate it based on my limited negative exposure. 2 Stars. I don't regret it, but it was definitely one of the lesser buffet experiences I have had. read more

Awesome place to go out and eat. My husband and I's favorite buffet place. Employees are very kind and have very good service, they wear masks and have a glass cover at the check in/out register. Would recommend to go out to eat here on a date or even out with the whole family read more

My family and i stopped here on the way back to new orleans and i can easily say this is the worst food and service i've ever had. i'd give this 0 stars if i could. food was hard, chewy, and cold. we had gotten one plate each and taken a bite out of a few things and when i went to the workers to complain about how bad the food was, in attempt to figure something out as i could not fathom paying 21$ for a couple of bites of food. i was told 'no the food is good, and you and your husband both got a plate, so you will pay for two buffets' and wasn't offered any type of assistance other than that. the worker i complained to even turned around to ask another customer how their food was and when they replied that it was very good, he turned to me and said 'thank you' and walked away. awful food and service. do not recommend. read more

Best Chinese in town! I started going here when they opened several years back. The food is always excellent and the take out menu is definitely the highlight. Also, they will make items not on the menu! A few years back I was in New York and had an order of General Tso's beef. I noticed King Buffet didn't have it on the menu, so I asked if they could make it for me. The manager told me it wasn't a problem and now that's all I order when I get take out! I like this place. The food is all of a good standard, I'm particularly fond of the general tso's chicken and the baked salmon. The staff are attentive and it's impossible for my drink to run dry. My wife is very keen on the vegetable dishes here, and were both fans of the butter potato. Definitely one of the better Chinese buffets. read more

Friendly folks. The usual buffet standards were very good. The seafood and crawfish, not so much. The salmon had the consistency of oatmeal, the head-on shrimp was so overdone the shell would not separate from the meat. The crawfish were way overdone and the snow crab had a very off putting odor. I was staying at the Days Inn in Jennings and did not feel like driving anywhere. The front staff at the motel did not know about the King Buffet, but I was hoping to get some sushi. The menu looked promising, but when I sat down to order, the (I suppose mgr or owner) assumed I was getting the buffet, so I went with it, as there was sushi on it. Basically the best things I can say about all the food items was that a) I've had worse and b) it has not (so far) made me sick. That's the sunny side of the review. The hibachi chicken was the best of the worst and it was passable (hopefully). I did not take any of the sushi, as it appeared to have been sitting there for a considerable amount of time. Most of the food items also appeared to have been there a while. I did see the kitchen bring one or two new items out, which they predictably mixed it with the remaining food. Many of the items I ate were not even hot or warm, maybe room temperature. Please understand, I had been working since 4 am and I was tired and hungry. In any normal circumstances, I would have gotten up, not paid, and left. I tried a small amount of the "buttered shrimp", Gen Tso chicken (actually edible), coconut shrimp (cold, unflavored), hot and spicy soup (bland, but temperature hot). Actually, the soup was the item I was looking forward too, but the container was almost empty and it didn't look that appetizing. The cucumber salad wasn't horrible. All told, my suggestion would be get in your car and go somewhere else. I would not eat there again, even if tired and hungry. Oh yeah, it cost $14.43 for the buffet and a coke including tax.
