Whenever I'm craving a brick oven style pizza I always end up at King Dough! When it comes to pizza crust I prefer it to be a littler firmer so I can fold the slice with little to no flop. I feel like at times their dough can be a little undercooked and floppy so if you prefer some crunch then I HIGHLY recommend having them cook it for a little longer. This was my first time requesting for it to be cooked longer and it over exceeded my expectations. This place takes their COVID precautions very seriously and I appreciate that - temps taken, more than adequate space between tables, requesting those who are waiting to stand outside. I had heard a lot of great things about KDP but I found it to be a standard wood fired pizza place, nothing bad but nothing great. After eating here probably a dozen times, I was sure I'd already left a 5-star review. But apparently I haven't, so here it is! King Dough is my go-to pizza spot in downtown Indy. If you like classic toppings, you can't go wrong with their pepperoni pizza (which is covered in tiny, crispy peps). But I recommend trying some of their more creative pies. My favorites are the R&B and the Grape & Gorgonzola which are both vegetarian. The Grecco salad with salty feta & olives, crunchy peppers, and that fresh basil vinaigrette is one of my favorite salads in the city! On Tuesdays they do a two for $25 deal that includes any pizza and any large salad. It's the perfect affordable date night and we often end up taking a couple slices home too. During COVID times they're offering patio dining and also online ordering for takeout. Just moved to the city and everyone has been raving about King Dough, so I figured I had to check it out. Safe to say, it lived up to the hype. The staff were super friendly and working efficiently. My boyfriend and I tried the destroyer pizza and it was the best pizza I've ever had. So much flavor and so damn delicious, and I don't even like sausage on pizza normally! That honey really gives it the extra oomph. Also, they're one of the few places in the area to sell natural wine so they get extra brownie points from me. Highly highly recommend. Dare I say...the best pizza in Indy? As soon as I tried King Dough Indy's Destroyer pizza, it stole my heart and stomach with its goat cheesy, hot honey, Italian sausage combo. It is just seriously so good. I usually order it with a side of hot honey sesame wings and am in savory/sweet heaven all night. I would (and do) invite any friend to share a King Dough pizza but will note that their vegan options look very solid - like a friend who eats vegan would also have a lovely culinary experience because of the breadth of food available. Normally, I don't stray too far from the Destroyer, but I recently learned that King Dough's margherita pizzas are $10 on Monday, so Monday suddenly became the best day of the week. I also usually skip dessert, but I know that a local pastry chef prepares the dessert options, and they usually look AMAZING. We came early to have dinner as a group before the Indy eleven game. The place gives a cool vibe, the patio was great! It was sunny and they had some umbrellas out, there was one other party outside and because we were in the sun, we scooted the umbrella to shade our table, we didn't take it from another table or steal shade from someone else...but we were reprimanded by the waitress and told not to touch anything. Weird, so we asked if they could place an umbrella in our table, we were told it was just out of the question, we could move inside if it was too sunny for us. Honestly the restaurant was just not that busy. We were way before any dinner rush. And it took a long time to get drinks and then longer to get our pizza ordered. The service staff were rude when we asked for anything. When the pizza was served it was fantastic!! Could not have loved it more . Still had to track down a waitress for refills on drinks, and it just felt like they didn't want us there to be honest. We also were reprimanded when we were waiting for the restroom, it is a tight place and the staff is trying to get in and out of the same place, bad design, but just try and be friendly. We finally made it around to trying King Dough after constantly hearing and reading great reviews. The reviews did not lie, and the pizza was great! I am not always the biggest on brick oven pizza, due to the burnt texture it can sometimes get, but I felt like they did a great job on cooking it well but not burning. My wife is huge on brick oven pizza and has tried some of the highest rated in the works, and she said this was one of the best she's ever had. I ordered just the sausage pizza. Their smallest option was a little large, and I thought a bit on the pricier side, but it was very good. We sat outside on the patio. It was nice, but the road could be a little loud at times. The dough is amazingly soft yet the perfect amount of crisp on the outside. The sauce is so fresh and loaded with flavor! I ordered the 8 inch cheese and added arugula- I never thought I'd eat it all- I ate every single bite! Delish!!!! We sat in the bar at a bar top that opens to the patio. The drinks were top notch and the bartender could not have been more attentive! The servers were friendly and on the spot with clearing dishes, etc. I also had the Greek salad which had super fresh ingredients but I would recommend the dressing on the side. I ordered The Destroyer, and all I gotta say is I quickly destroyed half of that pizza. Each element was able to stand out on its own, but also tasted well together. The dough was chewy (positive), flavorful, and held out to all my pizza toppings. They also source some of their ingredients locally too ! It was easy to call and place my order, it was ready for pickup when I got there, the staff is friendly and is using safe practices during this crazy time. This visit I hung out at the bar for the first time. The bar is tucked away through a separate door next to the kitchen. If it wasn't for other yelpers, I wouldn't have known it was there. The bar has a garage door that I imagine is open on nice days. I ordered the "green days" which was the loviest version of spa water I've ever seen. Gin based, fresh, light, and herbaceous. I was excited to try King Dough based on the reviews. Also, the building design is super appealing to me. Although very excited, I was not super hip on the pizza. We ordered the Pork & Pine as well as the special, the Nashvillian. Both were quite disappointing to say the least. You would think they were prepping for depression with the lack of toppings they put on. The whole Pork & Pine pizza probably had 6 chunks of pineapple and the Canadian bacon was non existent (the reason I ordered it). I am a health conscious person so I kinda liked that they didn't load it with cheese. But if I'm eating pizza, I'm looking to indulge a bit and it seemed like it was just glops of cheese randomly spread out. Disappointed with the Pork & Pine, I figured I would order the Nashvillian to go, the same night, to give them another shot. Once again, their were probably 6 chunks of chicken on the whole pizza. I started with the mozzarella sticks and they were solid - the breading and sauce were fresh and it was a solid start to the meal. We split and wood-fired margarita pizza. It was tasty with a charred crust and fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. One downside was that it took about 35 minutes for the pizza to arrive.
