I've been coming to King Eggroll in San Jose for years, so it's disappointing to leave this review. This visit just didn't live up to the quality I've come to expect. I ordered the fried shrimp balls, a chicken egg roll, a vegetable egg roll, and an order of spring rolls. The biggest issue was the shrimp balls. Anyone who's had them before knows they're supposed to have a crispy wonton coating. The batch sitting under the warmer had no crisp or crust at all--they looked soft and soggy. I told the employee I didn't mind waiting for a fresh batch, but she kept insisting I take the ones that were already there. Even after I expressed my concern, she bagged up the remaining shrimp balls anyway. When I got to my car, it was exactly what I expected: soggy shrimp balls with no crunch whatsoever. It felt like I wasted my money on food that wasn't prepared the way it should have been. I understand not wanting to waste food, but customers should be able to decline older items and wait for a fresh batch without feeling pressured. Allllllright, according to my family in norcal - this is the place to go for egg rolls and catering needs. We were throwing my brother a surprise birthday party and eggrolls are a staple at any Vietnamese party. We ordered egg rolls and shrimp balls. Pricing is moderate, but for the size of food I believe it is justified. The egg rolls are packed with meat and very good. Perfectly golden, crispy and not oily. It is a good place for party trays though. It's located in a small strip mall which only offers take out. The restaurant is rather plain and the ladies working the steam table are rather welcoming. They used whole cremini mushrooms for the chicken, which I enjoyed but thought the stir fry was a bit raw. The shrimp dumplings were really good as well, 9/10. At least the portion sizes are big that I can't even finish the rest, but this seems to be also at the cost of food quality. It's really hot inside here and I thought that this restaurant has much seatings, but when I walked inside, they only have one table with few seats sitting at the edge of the wall. Plus, it's hot outside. No AC especially during the summer time. I wanted to dine-in here but it's not really a good place to do that especially during the summer time. The other day, I had what may have been one of the worst siu mais I've ever eaten at King Eggroll on Lundy -- and I have eaten a lot in my life. I didn't expect dim sum restaurant quality siu mai like you would find at HL, Lei Garden or Koi, but this was worst than the frozen siu mais you would buy at the Chinese grocery store. To start with, it barely resembled siu mai. Instead of the traditional shape, it was oddly round and misshapen -- all 4 pieces look different. At roughly $7 for an order, it was also expensive. The biggest disappointment, however, was the taste. It was essentially just a large, dense ball of pork with very poor flavor and a weird texture. I took one bite, spitted it out and ended up throwing the entire order away. I also ordered the fried shrimp balls, which was decent, but not enough to make up for the siu mai. I would say it's not the most cheap seeing that one egg roll is $1.90, and the portions being served didn't seem to be as generous as I've seen from other places like this on social media. Been coming to this location for 6+ years now ever since I've moved to the neighborhood. It's a hole in the wall that had minimal seating before Covid and afterwards they removed it all together. Basically it's just pick up to go now. The place is in between a 7-Eleven and a liquor store so I don't need to say more. But the food is always fresh in the mornings and replenishes during the rush hour lunch. My go to dish at this spot is their renown egg rolls and chicken chow mein. A couple of years ago I would've told you this place was the most bang-for-your-buck Chinese fast food place but lately, with everything else inflation has caused, I can't say the same. Overall, it's good and convenient for me. In and out with my order within 10 min or less. Don't expect white glove customer service tho. This place is all about speed and efficiency. **side note: the servers have English as their second language. So, if English is also your second language and you're ordering off script and not by their menu, that can lead to some miscommunication....which leads to frustration...and end up being an argumentation.
