If you grew up around San Jose, then you've heard of King Egg Rolls. My mom always ordered to go here when I was a little kid. It's a tiny little place, but they pump out a lot of food daily. They have a bunch viet sammies, chinese fast food (fried rice, chow mein) and some dim sum. I usually order to go because there's not much space to eat in peace. And if you do find a seat, you're usually surrounded by a swarm of people. They have great affordable take out trays that you can order for parties or big groups. I've called in to order 50 egg rolls and a large tray of chow mein and they are able to fulfill them same day. Their red sweet and sour sauce is soooooo tasty! ***Warning- this review is not based on the food, this review is strictly about their customer service*** I placed an order over the phone with King Eggroll on a Wednesday for an 11:30am pickup on Friday for an office party happening at noon. My phone call was very brief and not very friendly and the lady on the other end of the phone was barking at me as I was asking questions about payment over the phone or in store (first time ordering) and she was very abrupt and when the phone call was over she didn't even say goodbye. Moving on to my experience TODAY (Friday Oct 31). It was raining quite a bit so I left a little earlier than planned, but still ended up FIVE (5) minutes behind. Walked into a very packed small restaurant unsure of where I am suppose to pick up my food so I head towards the cashier. Waited about 5 minutes and finally talk to the girl at the register at 11:40am. When I tell her I am here to pick up my order she told me they gave my food away already....WHAT?? I am 5 minutes behind due to rain / traffic and waited in line behind other customers and in that time you gave away my food order??? When I said that wasn't okay all she said was it will be $21.00 and it will be a 10 minute wait for new chicken. I was pretty annoyed, but agreed 10 minutes was fine. Paid and sat down. I did NOT get my good until 12:18pm. I sat waiting for my food and watched several other VERY FRUSTRATED customers continue to be turned away even though they placed orders ahead of time as well because they were a few minutes late due to rain. I will not be returning to this location ever again and will choose to visit their other location on Story in hopes of better and more courteous service. read more

We used to come here to buy their eggrolls and fried chickens as party trays, however, seeing as to how their customer service has been steadily declining, I am having second-thoughts about doing so any longer. The servers/cashiers can be somewhat rude and disrespectful. You may be first in the line to order and pay, but they will serve the person behind you first. Nonsense. You may call-ahead and place reservations/orders, but you will still end up waiting for at least 20-30 mins once you arrive at the establishment. This is ridiculous, as to why call and reserve, then? Stick to what they are known for.... Egg Rolls. When fresh they are crispy and yummy. When have been sitting there they are chewy and oily as all egg rolls get. But there is such high demand for them that you won't get one that has been sitting there for a while. We also split a 3 item. Eh, don't bother. Yumm, grease wrapped around grease, wrapped around some food. Honestly, this place has a grease to food ratio of about 50:50, but at the same time they use the best grease you can find. It's like the Rolls Royce of grease, while all other grease is just a geo metro. I mean you can eat these egg rolls with your pinky up and wearing a monocle, because this grease is top of the line. Yes, there's a YELP for the Lundy one, but not the Berryessa one. Near the San Jose Flea Market, this one is the one I've always gone to. Just as good as the Lundy Ave one, this place is ALWAYS packed around lunch/dinner eating hours. The egg rolls are the BEST. The siu-mai (shoe my) are EXCELLENT, the chicken wings (though a touch greasy since they're deep fried) are GREAT and the pork buns are DELICIOUS!! You can't beat the price either!!! Been going here since I was a kid. One of the best places to get party food. Chicken wings, fried rice, chow mein, beef & broccoli, and eggrolls. The eggrolls are famous and always a hit at parties. Can't go wrong with them! If you need a cheap meal you can order a combo meal inside (will definitely get you full, but watch out, too much and you can get a headache). If you eat inside, it feels like you're two feet away from the person eating next to you at the other table. With so much traffic in there, it's common to see crumbs or sauce on the table from the last person that ate there before you. Saturdays can be busy with a line outside and the automatic door continuously opening and closing (sucks if it's a windy day). Parking can be a drag on a Saturday because people may park their cars there to go to the flea market down the street. read more

I'm not a fan of making meals out of the fried and greasy, but our sleeping daughter in the carseat was in desperate need of a nap, so we headed to King Eggroll for an eat-on-the-go meal. The egg rolls are awesome any day, but they are especially awesome when they are fresh and piping hot. My husband and I split some eggrolls (yum!) and an order of dumplings (just ok). I get my 50 egg roll party tray every Friday morning here. The egg rolls are that damned good. If you want to pre-order them hoping they will be ready when you arrive for the scheduled pick-up time, go ahead. It's pretty effing useless. You will show up and they will start cooking them as soon as you figure out a way to speak broken English to be understood by the courteous staff, and they can relay your order to the kitchen. So just go in and be prepared to wait anywhere from 10-20 minutes. I know I am talking smack, but they are still getting a good review since their egg rolls are that good. All other egg rolls pale in comparison to these. You will never taste a better egg roll. The customers here are a peanut gallery. This place is close to the Flea Market, so a lot of crazies come in here. There is a regular bum that waits out greeting you as you feel guilty walking in and empty-promise him some change on the way out. You will get change, as they are cash only. There is an "ATM Machine" as the sign states. Yes, an "Automatic Teller Machine Machine." But it's one of those generic ones that charge you a ridiculous fee, so you end up getting more cash than you need to justify that few bucks fee be spread over more money taken out. When I took them to a Superbowl party once... after like a 2 hr wait in line... which ended up being a bonding expericence with strangers... my friends loved them. The next time I went to my friends' house I was asked if I brought egg rolls! (Sadly, no.). They have lots of other Chinese entrees too. Some are ready and waiting and some you can request be made. This place sells the best egg rolls I have ever had in my entire life. The fried chicken they sell also sits at the top of my fried chicken list. It is the fried chicken list. I've never bothered trying any of the other food they sell, because the egg rolls and chicken wings are that bomb. These egg rolls are extra crispy. They're great with sweet and sour sauce, which comes free with your purchase of these delicious little suckers. But I've found that they're also phenomenal a day old, wrapped in red-leafed lettuce, and dipped in Vietnamese fish sauce. Of course you could always opt to do that when they're still fresh, but I'm just saying. They're still good hours later... King Eggroll twice in one weekend! First was a company potluck/bbq so I picked up my party tray from this KE, 2nd was a beach bbq and picked up from Gilroy KE. Nom nom nom. This KE is great! Though the space is small and the line is always out the door, the service is quick and food is great & always fresh! I remember as a kid, my dad would take us here and buy a bag full of eggrolls and we would eat it we got sick. The ONLY negative thing is that they don't accept credit cards, CASH ONLY. They do have an ATM by the entrance, and I've had to use it once. Don't remember how much the fees are. When I was little and used to go to potlucks, King Egg Rolls would always be the first thing I looked for. These egg rolls are by far the best ones I've ever had in my life. Golden, meaty, and delicious are the 3 words I would choose. Although King egg rolls also has a large selection of other food I only choose the egg rolls. They are super cheap but very oily. My mom would always buy the frozen kind and cook them in cholesterol free oil at home which would make them healthier all while keeping their great taste! Tried the dim sum here and it was barely mediocre. The har gaw was tasteless. And the shumai had a strong mushroom smell and taste. The shark fin dumplings casing was very think. They ran out lf Hot sauce. And the three spring roll box was kept poorly. One spring roll was fresh the other had a hardened spring roll wrapper. The peanut sauce wasn't tasty. I didn't try the chinese food but I don't expect to come back here. read more
