My absolute favorite spot to eat HK style food in Alameda! I love coming here weekly to try new items on the menu, I have yet to try a dish that I don't like. There's plenty of seating, it gets quite busy on the weekends but there's no wait on weekdays. The service is always great here, dare I say I'm used to coming back to see the staff weekly as well. The thai tea is sweet and the black jelly makes it slightly bitter, this combo is yummy. Rice/Entrees Pork Chop Baked Rice (5/5) - Favorite baked rice dish, I love this! K4 // Salty Fish Eggplant with Shredded Pork (5/5) - Soo good, you need to get this with white rice and eat it together. Noodles: Prawns in Scramble Egg Gravy (5/5) - Favorite noodle dish, so good! Stopped by for an early lunch after my medical appt in downtown Alameda (Park St). I was the first customer when they opened at 11am. There's many food choices on Park Street, but many places don't open until noon. I was greeted as I came in, and offered the lunch plate menu. The young lady took the time to discuss everything. I ordered: - Fish Filet in Black Sauce, w/ Fried Rice (extra $$) - Iced Coffee, light sweetness Total Bill = $20.75. My lunch plate was a delicious comforting meal. A delightful balance of flavors. The portions were about right for lunch. The colorful bell peppers and chopped onions made the dish look appealing. The restaurant was cool and comfortable. The lights were turned down low. This is my favorite stop when I'm in Alameda with plenty of street parking and clean, comfortable hk cafe vibes. Today we tried the specials (traditional Cantonese dishes) which the server recommended. - Oyster braised pork feet - meat were so tender and tasty with rich umani flavors from the dried oysters . Hong Kong City Cafe is my favorite in Alameda. The salty fish fried rice is my go to. If you really like tendon I recommend the Chinese beef stew. The lychee Jasmine milk tea hit the spot and my waitress was really sweet. Customer service is excellent. It seems like HK City really cares about quality assurance. The ambiance is very serene. The noise levels haven't been loud whenever I've been there and the restaurant looks really clean. After every table leaves, the table is cleaned immediately. Loved my experience. My friends took me here for their local Chinese food. Overall experience was good, we ordered general chicken, beef chowmein, fried rice and dumplings. The dumplings were okay, the meat filling was good, but not as crispy. General chicken was sweet and crispy, little spicy. My friends said, it was but I did not think so. The Fried rice was huge portions and they let use do chicken and pork combo. The chowmein with thin noodle was okay, I feel like it was little dry. I should have pick thicker noodle. We met our relatives here for lunch and had not visited since the restaurant has new ownership and were pleasantly surprised! We had 6 people and ordered 6 dishes, wor won ton (2 orders), string bean chicken, honey walnut prawns, black bean spareribs, beef chow fun (dry), salt and pepper filet of fish. I've been craving baked pork chop so we wandered in to give this one a try. HKCC has a large menu, and the restaurant itself has a more updated look inside compared to the other HK spots in the area. Street parking only, so it may take some time to find a good parking spot since the area is super busy. Expect a walk. We ordered the baked pork chop over spaghetti, black pepper beef rice plate, and a HK milk tea. The waitress let us know there was a BOGO deal for the drinks (except soda), so we added a Thai milk tea with grass jelly onto our order. My BF's rice plate was super quick to come out, but the beef was pretty pale in color. The beef came with bell peppers and onions too, but the veggies were a little too undercooked for my taste. Despite the coloring, the beef was tender and flavorful but I highly suggest adding some of their XO chili from the table. Their XO sauce is really good! My BF said he didn't care for it, but I thought it was delicious. They sell the sauce but it's $25 for a small jar... My baked pork chop took for ever to come out. The waitress said they were having some issues with the oven they use to bake the dish. I was going to just take it to go but my bf said to stay and eat it fresh. After about 30 min, it came out piping hot, with a beautiful golden brown cheese crust. Sauce ratio to spaghetti was good, but they don't really use typical spaghetti noodle. Their noodles were a little flatter. The pork chop was very tender but there was a lot of fatty pieces. I'm not a fan of the fat if it's not crispy so I had to spit those out. The sauce was slightly sweet and tomatoey, and I loved the crusty bits of cheese. HK milk tea was not good. It had a slight tang to it, that neither of us liked. I honestly do not understand how this place is only rated 3.6 stars. They deserve a perfect 5-star rating, no doubt about it! Our original plan was to go to one of our usual spots in Oakland, but it was closed, so we headed toward our next closest option in Alameda--a place we've been to before. On the way, we passed HKCC, a spot we've noticed many times but never thought to try. I'm really glad we finally did. The food and service were both on point, and the ladies working there were warm and friendly, which made the experience even better. Our neighbor arranged a dinner arrangement here on a recent Friday evening. I haven't dined here in years and my neighbor said they ownership is different than when I dined there last. The restaurant in located on Park St. and is clean, modern and spacious. Seating are booths and large tables for groups. The menu consisted of Cantonese and Hong Kong style dishes. Salt and Pepper Squid - good flavor, but the batter was on the thicker side. Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings - delicious wings. Lightly battered, crispy and tasty. Baked Pork Chop and Spaghetti - good flavors and tender thinly sliced pork chops in red sauce topped with cheese. Baked Seafood and Rice - shrimp, scallop and calamari in a cream sauce topped with cheese. Very good. Hainan Chicken and Rice - the leg and thigh was cooked perfectly moist with a side of ginger oil dipping sauce. The side of rice was fragrant and tasty. It had been awhile since I'd ordered food from Hong Kong Cory Restaurant when they were temporarily closed due to renovations. I happened to walk by and saw their lunch specials and the rock cod with corn caught my eye. Fast forward to a Thursday lunch where I ordered said dish and was not disappointed! There was a nice helping of fish and rice and I definitely ended up with leftovers to take home. The fish was fresh, soft and tasty! Service from sitting down to being served was quick which I appreciated. Went back again on a Tuesday for lunch and ordered their black bean fish lunch special. This time, instead of only one choice of lunch special that day, there was 2. Again, I was seated, my order was taken and I was served quickly. The fish is why I would go back here. I can't wait to come back on other days to try some non-fish items. Street parking on Park Street and surrounding streets though the Alameda Theatre parking garage isn't too far. Hong Kong Cafe fare on Park Street. The lunch menu has many nice offering. I ordered the Peking spare rib over rice plate. It came with a bowl of hot and sour soup. The soup was better than expected with the right amount of tartness and peppery. And the Peking ribs was alright and something g appears short on the taste front. The service was alright. Summary: Visited 28Nov2024, Thanksgiving Day. I'd definitely come back here again. Food is excellent. Service is good. Ambiance is casual but I think they do catering or hold parties because I saw a huge subwoofer and a few speakers. Food: We ordered Braised Beef, Cod Fish Garlic Pepper, and Beef Chow Fun (dry). I like all of it. Everything is not salty and not greasy. Beef Chow Fun was the first plate to come out. Noodles were chewy, lots of beef (actual meat, not the regular Chinese beef - pounded?). Taste was perfect, I did not have to add soy sauce. I noticed this dish did not have tons of bean sprouts, which is a plus I think because you get actual meat and noodles. Good portion of meat. Also I didn't see scrambled eggs, it was minimal to none, like it was an after thought or like they added but decided at the end to remove the ingredient. Beef Stew with Bok Choy was next. Tasty and steaming hot. I liked it but it would be my least fav because it came with so much ligament connective tissue - it was not hard to chew but I'd prefer not to have it. The meat itself is tender like it was simmered for a while. The veggie was cooked perfectly, it still had crunch yet not hard but also not soggy. Garlic Pepper Black Bean Rock Cod Fish was my favorite. It was flavorful, crunchy on the outside but flaky and not dry inside. Also did not have thick batter, where you question if you ordered fish or batter. Not greasy at all!! Garlic was not overpowering, all spices blended well. Service: As expected, the waiter checked in on us several time to make sure we get what we need to enjoy the meal. Polite and professional. Place: I saw two big round tables for bigger parties. Like mentioned earlier, I think they hold parties here because I saw a huge subwoofer and speakers. I also heard they cater (though I didn't confirm). I was thinking of Chinese take out tonight, and researched for a good restaurant in town. This place appeared to be good, so, I ordered the walnut honey prawns, egg rolls and wonton soup. The prawn were huge and plentiful, so, I thought, great, leftovers! Then, I started eating them. They didn't taste of shrimp or honey, but, a bizarre artificial vanilla flavor. The more I ate the more I was repelled by that awful taste and smell. The soup had a weird flavor as well. Neither tasting even close to the versions I'd eaten over the years. Not only does it often include fresh and healthy vegetables, but there is a lot of variety and a lot of flavors. I got the beef chow fun, bitter melon with fish fillet, and garlic eggplant. All were so delicious! Portions were generous too. The eggplant was nice and garlicky with a piquant sweet and sour-ish sauce. I loved it! The eggplant was cooked perfectly and stayed firm. The bitter melon with fish fillets was wonderful. If you like bitter melon, you will love this. The fish fillets were so tender and fresh. The beef chow fun was exactly the way I like it, with bean sprouts and green onions. they used very tender meat in the beef chow fun. Went here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised about how good the food was! The staff was nice and let us know about their bogo free drink special. We got the Hong Kong style chow mein, black bean fish, dry-fry string beans, and Mao pao dofu. All dishes were good, except the Mao pao dofu. It tasted weirdly sweet and not like the normal flavor I'm used to. The inside of the restaurant has booths and I think you may be able to study there (not entirely sure). Food was mid -- tons of sugar in the hot/sour soup (my dad said it was like eating hot syrup and he wasn't wrong) and the kung pao chicken sauce (which also managed to be too salty), and the chicken was close to being overdone. I would not say the food is *bad* and the prices were extremely fair and I would try it again, but I would encourage the chef not to add sugar to the sauces or soups, no matter your perception of American tastes. read more

Ah this place is ok. Didn't have too many people here. I got the beef stew ho fun and the noodles were not fully cooked as in they were stuck together. Not sure how long this will last. I would come back here though because it is the closest to a cha chan tang you can find in Alameda though if you don't want to go to Oakland. read more

My sister-in-law ordered chicken and tofu, my baby sister ordered the beef stew with veggies. I'm not sure what my brother ordered. Our lunch plates included hot 'n sour soup and steamed rice. A call to my oldest sister and my other brother for the to go lunches was dried fried beef chow fun and black mushrooms chicken. My eggplant with minced pork was good, but I wished it was a tad spicier. The portion was quite generous for lunch. I was only able to eat about half of it. (Leftover meal for dinner) My eyes got bigger than my stomach. LOL. The value of the meal ($11.95) was worth it. Even though we received a pot if hot tea, I opted for an iced black tea with lemon slices. That tea was refreshing. It was almost as if I were drinking an Arnold Palmer. Service was quick and the wait staff helpful and pleasant. All these many years my husband and I live here in town (30+ years), and as many times I walk by Hong Kong City Restaurant, I am glad my siblings and I stopped in and enjoyed lunch. Wow! New favorite restaurant in Alameda by a landslide! The dishes here are so thoughtful and very plentiful - especially when you order more traditional fare, like bitter melon and salted fish rice. We absolutely loved: 1. Salted fish rice: fermented fish with chicken and rice. Lots of ginger in this fish and it complements the salted fish nicely. 2. Bitter melon with beef: this is so hard to find in the east bay. Was so happy to see it on the menu! 3. Eggplant: buttery and nicely done. 4. Sautéed green beans: nice kick to this one. 5. This place has my favorite Iced lemon tea. At the same time, compare to the drinks here, food here doesn't amuse me that much I would say quite "ordinary". But I might not ordered the right item here. For some reason I was craving for this beef steak, a little bit small portion even for me. Rice and noodles we ordered are ok, but seafood in it tastes pretty fishy I would say. Eggplants are a little bit oily. Service is alright, ppl here are pretty nice!
