    Chicken burnt

    This place thinks they're all that. Food wasn't good. We ordered a weird bread like thing which I thought sucked. It was like a cracker. I thought we were getting bread... mind you this was $18. We tried the pesto pasta which was kinda mid. The chicken was completely charred which thankfully they comped. At $84 this is absurd, the portion didn't feel like enough for two people and it was burnt. Restaurants are a complete joke now. I thought this place would have excellent food but it really didn't deliver. Atmosphere is nice, but the food needs some help. also the host didn't greet us right away he was too absorbed with open table.

    This was our second time dining at King St. Our first visit was back in the summer of 2022, and we loved sitting outside on a warm evening--great vibes and a relaxing meal. This time, since it's freezing in NYC, we requested indoor seating. The indoor dining space is divided into two areas: the front by the bar, and the back, which is the main dining room. The back room is cute but extremely tight. Tables are very close together, to the point where you can hear every conversation around you. Unfortunately, a table of four behind us had one woman whose loud laugh echoed through the whole space. It became distracting, and the poor couple beside them looked like they were suffering through the noise too. Service was friendly and attentive overall. Our waiter was great, but the pacing of our meal missed the mark. We specifically asked for our dishes to be coursed out--first, second, and third--so we could share everything. Instead, two appetizers were brought out at the same time. Not the end of the world, but definitely not what we requested. Food, however, was very good across the board. King St. continues to deliver solid dishes and warm service. The real challenge is the indoor layout--if you're sensitive to noise, conversations, or tight spacing, it can take away from the experience. All in all, delicious food and great staff, but be prepared for a lively (and loud) dining room if you're seated inside.

    Holy moly this place was good. I don't even know how to describe it. It needs to be experienced in person! The food is so yummy, high quality, and I felt like I could keep eating. It's like when you visit Europe and you know you're eating wholesome food versus anything with preservatives. That's how I felt eating at King. Expect to spend money here, but it's worth it for the quality, atmosphere, and friendly service.

    Love the ambience here. Out Waiter Tom was excellent. The Pork chop was huge and flavorful, The Serlion Steak was juicy and redured just right and Medium Rare. Sea base also exvellent!

    I give this restaurant 3.5 stars and because of the pros and cons below, will most likely not go back. Pros: (1) Food, service and ambiance were all very good. Very friendly wait staff. (2) The char-grilled sirloin over rosemary branches was cooked just right (medium rare) and the veal was very tasty (though this is the first veal I have eaten in 30 years, so it could have just been because of that). (3) We were offered a "chef's special roasted pepper salad" made just for us since the "very last special tomato salad available" offered to us as a compliment to our meal became unavailable. See below for cons about items offered to us that were "chef's special." (4) Fancy thin crusted pop-over-type bread with olive oil was good. Cons: (1) Our waiter was super friendly, asking us after each course for feedback for the chef. This felt very attentive, however, in hindsight, we feel he was chumming us up to get us to order a special dessert that ended up costing us $38! The dessert was actually really interesting ... raspberries, blueberries and blackberries cooked in a fermented pastry with a sour sauce & creme fraiche on top (the creme fraiche didn't work). However, he never told us the price and honestly, how do you sell someone a dessert that costs that much w/o telling them the price? We now joke that this is by far the most expensive dessert we've ever eaten! $38!!! Seriously??? If you go here, ask for the dessert menu with prices on it or ask what the price is for anything that is offered to you as a "chef's special." (2) As stated above, we felt like the waiter, in hindsight, was so nice, because he was charming us into buying more food by making it seem like everything was a unique "chef's special" and just for us. They could have been, but I doubt it. We were left with a sour taste in our mouths after getting the bill. (3) The wine list didn't contain a single natural wine, so the orange wine I got was the closest I could find to anything natural. Very disappointing that there weren't natural wines that I could enjoy and pair with the food.

    After The NY Times put King on their best of NY list we decided it was time to give it a try. On our visit we found King to be a good restaurant, and didn't have any issues with the food or service as some of the other reviews have pointed out. Though, it is in an extremely competitive area where there are plenty of options just as good (with no fuss for a table) or better (and not included in The NY Times list). Kings menu changes daily and on our visit we had; Complimentary Flat Bread - drizzled in olive oil, this was fine. Panisse - these are chick pea fries and pretty good. A lot of tables had this dish and it's worth trying. Pansotti liguri con salsa di noci - This ravioli pasta is paired with a walnut sauce and was great. Get it if it's offered on the menu. Sirloin chargrilled over rosemary branches - good. Striped bass - like the sirloin good. Service was solid.

    This place has been on my hit list for awhile now, part because of the food & in large part in awe of this business founded by 3 women. This also completes my Clare de Boer Mecca having previously hit Stissing House in the summer, Jupiter in the Fall, & now this. While Stissing House probably remains my favorite for its roaring fireplace vibes, this comes second with its coziness and just flavorful menu that changes daily. We kickstarted with the Sicilian Flat Bread, which was just incredible. Our grp couldn't resist asking for more as it was just this crispy and light concoction that was delightful. The panisse was also unique and a great protein rich alternative to fries . All other dishes in the picture were superb but the raclette cabbage mixture stands out (though I have been racletting for weeks now so maybe I'm just biased ‍). Definitely order the tarte tatin if available. It did not disappoint. Very easy going service & worth another visit!

    Place had 3 entrees to choose from and 4 appetizers. Overly pretentious for what it's worth. Food is fine, not great. Won't be back.

The ambiance feels straight of the golden age, which is an aesthetic I'm certainly a sucker for. Even their robust cocktail menu fits the bill and is one of the prettiest menus I've ever had the joy of perusing. Staff was able to sit us a little bit ahead of our reservation which was also much appreciated. Wait staff was also very helpful and attentive, I don't think I've ever had my water glass so topped off! Starting off with cocktails, this place is a gin bar through and through and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one of their many options. I went with the 10,000 words, which you simply just give a spirit of your choice (I picked gin of course) and whether you antes) wanted your drink shaken or stirred and the bartender does the rest, so a bit of a surprise! I wound up with their version of The Last Word which was delightfully citrusy but I was hoping I'd wind up with something a little more adventurous app things considered. My girlfriend got the blackberry G&T, which was not only very pleasing to look at but delicious to boot. For food, we started with splitting some zucchini blossoms and beef cheek bao buns (both come in portions of 3). Both were tasty, but I love a good bao bun and these were so light and pillowy, I could have just went for an order of those for my main course. For the entree I went for the roasted half chicken, perhaps the most unassuming choice on the menu but this was maybe the best roast chicken I've ever had. Prepared perfectly, cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and the kicker of it all was the stunning gravy that I was tempted to lick my plate for. Chicken is very easy to screw up, and they nailed it on all fronts here. My girlfriend went for the Valerie Signature burger with white cheddar and this thing did not mess around! A very rich patty, cooked to her temperature of choice served alongside some garlic truffle fries that made an American classic feel just a little more elevated. Our experience was delightful and I'd love to comeback here again, especially to check out more of the cocktail menu and soak in more of that golden age aura the place gives.
