I don't know where to begin. I came here on Saturday night with four friends. We were seated promptly since we had a reservation. Unfortunately, we were seated next to individuals that made loud racist and ageist comments towards us. At first, we tried to brush this off. However, after 15 minutes of discomfort, we asked for assistance from management. This is where the situation went from bad to worse. Several different members of the waitstaff tried to diffuse the situation, but ultimately made things worse by saying comments like "well, they have a lot of money", stating that the other table was "just as uncomfortable" as we were, or making excuses for them because they were intoxicated. The management team never apologized for the situation and continued to make excuses for the other table that were obvious and blatant lies. Three or four staff members came to our table and told us all different stories about why the other table kept making rude comments and gestures towards us. After half of our party walked out of the restaurant, the manager comped our meal. It's unfortunate that the management team didn't make the right decision to ask the racists guests to stop making openly racists remarks or leave the restaurant, but instead continued to make excuses for them. read more

Excellent food. I ate at the bar, which serves the full menu and some excellent cocktails. I had a very well made Old Fashioned and ordered crispy hush puppies and Louisiana Shrimp Stew, which turned out to be a perfect combination. A quick simple and sweet review in bullet points - Happy hour goes until 6:30pm and is half off all wine and beer by the glass. Don't look past this - they actually have a pretty great wine selection. Don't worry the beer drinkers won't be disappointing. - Friendly staff and service. While it wasn't insanely quick or friendly, quite honestly it was a great balance for a local in the quarter to enjoy their after work de-stress time. - It is a bit off the beaten path of the FQ which means it does attract locals and more of a chill crowd than other spots. - Every app that was ordered was devoured. And if you read their menu (and you like southern food) your mouth should be watering. They even caught me by surprise with this menu item: Pulled Pork Nachos....Cracklin', pimento cheese, creole tomatoes, b&b pickles, smoked sour cream. I guess it's because the food is good and it is close to home because it's not for the service! this time we come in with a reservation. we are told to wait a few minutes which we do. we are asked if we want a window seat to which we reply that it isn't necessary. so we are taken to the very back of the restaurant below the food pick up window. Went with a large group on a Tuesday night. Our server was terrible and could not keep track of anything. She was extremely slow and we had to ask several times to get drinks and refill water. This really killed the mood of our party and really put a damper on the night. They were out of 2 of their main entrees, and the gumbo I ordered was nothing but rice and two small slices of sausage... that was it. The crawfish dip I also had was not good and the chips it came with were stale. I didn't eat it or the gumbo. Really a let down,. First time here and we won't be going back. read more

When we couldn't find a place to eat during the first weekend of Mardi Gras, Kingfish not only found some space for us but delivered on the great food angle. Our group of eight was cared for and we were able to try out quite a few of the menu items. I was exhausted from traveling across the country so I don't remember all of the details at this point but Kingfish set a high standard for the rest of our trip to which we compared each additional restaurant. Group consensus was that Kingfish earned and deserved 4.5-5 stars. This review is for the BRUNCH only. We came on Sunday for brunch because every other place was packed. Stood at the front waiting for a host, with several other parties, for about ten minutes. One of the women in front of us asked the bartender if anyone was coming or we should seat ourselves and he responded pretty rudely that she's coming any minute. Once we sat down, the food was pretty good but there were a few things about the experience that were annoying. The wine glasses on the table were really dirty and had to be replaced. I got the breakfast burger and my partner got the Cochon Benedict. When we ordered, the server Angelique/Angelina(?) was like "wow okay so a very heavy brunch.. that's a lot...." kinda as if to make us feel bad about our orders. She was otherwise very nice but a little much. Lots of opinions. We also got the bottomless mimosas for $12 which is a pretty good deal considering any other single drink was about that much. But she filled up our glasses with the champagne and I wish she let us do it ourselves : she filled up 2/3rds of the wine glass with champagne so that there was only room for a splash of OJ. Maybe other people wouldn't mind this but this basically makes me not want to drink my mimosa ... it's barely a mimosa! Like I'm fine with drinking a lot of champagne but the proportions should be such that I actually enjoy the drink. If I wanted plain champagne, that's what I would've ordered. Ok on to the food itself. The breakfast burger overall tasted very good. It comes with two pork patties which is totally unnecessary, I took one of the patties off. It also comes with a "special sauce" which turns out to be .....mustard. The cochon Benedict was also good- the biscuit itself was delicious, tasted like pumpkin, but you couldn't taste it at all when combined with everything else on the plate. Believe the hype when it comes to the cocktails! We just happened upon Kingfish, knowing nothing about it before, we liked that they had live music and it seemed to be a nice place so we tried it out. I think it's definitely worth a trip here for the drinks - they are expertly crafted and very tasty! The food was not as impressive but the chicken dish we ordered for dinner was very tasty but the seafood souffle was a bit disappointing. We came in for happy hour. However, we didn't take advantage of the happy hour prices. We went in for cocktails and they only had beer and wine for happy hour. I had the Pimms drink which was excellent. However, the service really bad. Our waitress came by maybe once. One of our Pimms drinks had hair frozen into the ice. It was really gross. We couldn't find the waitress to point it out so we waited for a little before approaching the bar. The bartender didn't really seemed phased by the long hair connecting the ice cubes. He just dumped it and told us to wait for another. It would have been nice if we were at least comped or discounted for that drink as we sat there and waited for our waitress to finally come around to get another drink for the other person in our party. An increase in service quality and maybe no hair in your drink and this place would be a good spot. read more

Came upon Kingfish at night looking for a light meal after Jazz Fest last weekend. The restaurant was booked but we were told we could get food at the bar. Bartender Kirsten/Kristen was outstanding and made sure we ordered our food before the kitchen closed. Ordered lobster and squash bisque soup, french fries and a crab cake. All were delicious and served with a touch of New Orleans southern hospitality and history story telling. We went back the following day for a drink to stroll down to the French Market with and Kirsten was there again. When we asked her for her recommendation for drinks for the hot, humid sunny day it was, she put together the most amazing hand crafted cocktail, that had cucumber peel, strawberries and blueberries in it, I was able to get some fruit and veggies in along with my libation. As my husband said, if every shot glass of whatever she put in this drink is alcohol we may not be able to walk back to the hotel from the French Market. Upon Kirsten's recommendation we took a pedi cab back to the hotel, which was also an awesome way to traverse the French Quarter, would do that again too. The drinks were so yummy and artistically handcrafted from wonderful Kirsten. When we go back to this beautiful city it will definitely be a stop on the list! read more

Likely it would have been a little more than we would have liked to pay if it hadn't been happy hour, but the beer and wine selection was great and very reasonable! Good food with great service. Crawfish gratin appetizer was delicious with just the right amount of spice. Duck breast with sweet potato hash was the best....duck was cooked perfectly and the sauce complimented it with overwhelming. Had one issue as the fish for the fish tacos was uncooked BUT the wait staff quickly resolved the issue AND the manager gave us the dish for free. It is a little more than we wanted to spend for lunch (we spent $100 on lunch) but we admit we ordered way too much in the first place! Ha. We started with a Pimm's Cup and split the cheddar hushpuppies, the gumbo and also indulged in their delicious bread! Then I got the fish tacos and my bf got the chicken dish. Both were exquisite. They sat us at the window so we could watch passersby. Cozy and great music. Such a great place!! We had the most amazing meal here at Kingfish! We had heard great things about it so we made reservations & went for it. It was worth it! One of the greatest meals I've ever had!! I had the blackens pork chop with dirty rice & collard greens. Each bite was truly an orchestration of flavors and delight. Truly there were times I just closed my eyes and reveled in the flavors!! The collards were the BEST I've ever had & I'm a southerner so that speaks volumes! My husband had the duck with sweet potato hash. I'm not a duck fan, but he said it perfection on a plate! For cocktails I had blueberry hill . We also shared a dessert, Mississippi Mudd...not the typical fare and did not disappoint. If you treat yourself to only 1 nice dinner during your visit to NOLA - MAKE IT HERE!!
