It was a quiet Monday afternoon when I stopped in. The bartender greeted me kindly, gave me a menu, and told me to sit wherever I like. Even though it was quite warm out, the courtyard looked like a beautiful place to enjoy. There was another server working, but the same bartender came out to take my order. I settled on a sazerac, the cousin to my go to drink, the old fashioned. It was made perfectly, exactly what I'd expect from a bar named after and tied to the man who helped create the cocktail. Our group stopped in and I ordered my first ever Ramos gin fizz. I was told that this cocktail bar was the place to get it and Peychaud's delivered! It took about 25 mins to prepare (we were given the heads up when we ordered it) but it was worth the wait. It tasted like an elevated creamsicle blend that was perfectly chilled and slightly sweet. I've been hearing about Peychaud's for the past month, so I finally found a moment to stop by before meeting up with my family. The decor is very French Quarterish, intimate, and exactly what you'd expect from a classic New Orleans cocktail bar. I'm a big fan of sitting at the bar, so as soon as I walked in, it was time to camp out at my favorite spot. Food wasn't on my mind today, so if you're here for a food review, you might want to skip this one . This was strictly a drinks only mission. At first, the bartender was a guy I recognized from Cure, which instantly set the tone. the bartenders there actually know their craft, so I already felt like I was in good hands. Then Zari entered the scene. I'm not sure if she was just getting on shift or wrapping it up, but she completely elevated the experience. I told her I'm a gin person (heavy on the gin), and instead of giving generic suggestions, she actually tailored recommendations to my taste. I ended up ordering the Clover Club cocktail, and it did not disappoint. Balanced, refreshing, and beautifully crafted exactly what I want from a gin-based drink. Then came my bonus round: a shot of Song Cai Dry Gin from Vietnam. Clean, botanical, and surprisingly smooth, definitely not your average gin. Peychaud's is a great stop for cocktails, especially if you want something quieter and more intimate. It's part of The Celestine, and we sat in the lovely little courtyard, nicely tucked away from the New Orleans crowds. We came for the Ramos gin fizz and it was worth it. They make it minimum for two because of the long shake, and it's surprisingly light and refreshing even if you normally skip creamy drinks. One catch; they only make a double portion of the fizz and my friends all wanted their Pimm's cup, which is also delish. So I made the tough:) choice! Great service, cool atmosphere. The Sazerac was a bit absinthe heavy. It's supposed to have an absinthe wash but not be HEAVY with the flavor. I enjoyed it but not as much as the original I had at Sazerac House. My hunt continues for the perfect Sazerac!!! This was a cool bar as far as the vibe. The temperature, not so much. It was a bit stuffy and the nice AC unit they had inside could definitely have been on. It would have helped as the air felt heavy. The staff was very friendly and had a good laugh when I told them that the Conceirge at Marriott didn't know what Peychaud's was. Neither the bitters nor the bar. Culture lacked there. I enjoyed my Sazerac and offered to buy a really nice guy a shot of this drink he wanted. The staff didn't charge me but I asked what it was and they said it was Armagnac. I said what's that and they said it's a unique alternative to Cognac that is either a loved or hated taste. They gave me a sample and I agree. Definitely an acquired taste. Great spot for cocktails in the quarter. Staff was friendly, the bar area is small so you may have trouble getting a seat during popular times. They make a very good gin fizz but be mindful, it takes them a long time to make the drink. I think we waited about 20 minutes. I recommend starting with something else and letting them know you plan to order a gin fizz so they can start on it. read more

Peychaud's was the first cocktail bar I popped into during my first night in New Orleans. Being into home bartending and the history of cocktails, Peychaud's was already on my radar and part of my itinerary long before landing in the city. Upon entry, a gentleman who was leaving told me to sit on the back patio, and I'm glad I did. The bar is very moodily lit and pleasant, but the back patio was such a wonderfully aesthetic and enjoyable place to enjoy a cocktail. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and relatively quick. We got in straight away and didn't need to wait despite it being a Friday night. The cocktails were all well crafted and incredibly delicious. I found Peychaud's Pimm's Cup to be the best of my whole trip. Peychaud's was also my first and only Hurricane cocktail experience while in New Orleans, and given the taste and ingredients list, I'd say it's probably up there as one of the better in the city. If you want a more quiet and intimate setting with cocktails that are well crafted and rich history behind it, Peychaud's is your place. read more

The last couple of visits before the most recent one to the French Quarter, I had passed this bar on Toulouse enough times that I was intrigued on walking inside. I didn't know it was originally a drinking spot for Tennessee Williams (apparently). However, that knowledge made me glad I checked it out and frequented the bar on the occasions I did during this current trip to New Orleans, regardless. The Will and The Way was a couple of buildings over from the Celestine, where the separate entrance to Peychaud's is located. That has become a local hangout for us when we are in town. Peychaud's has also become that in a short time. We went to Peychaud's multiple times during the remaining two full days we had in the French Quarter. The interior has an elegant yet distinctly local NOLA charm that feels like a writer's hangout (I'm a writer, so I can say that). With absinthe-green walls and ceilings, light wooden, varnished liquor shelving, polished granite countertops, and vintage lighting that looks straight out of the 1930s, the ambiance for a nice afternoon or evening of enjoying cocktails is there for the taking. I loved the artwork hung on the walls, both in the front and back of the lounge. As you walk to the back, you also have access to the back courtyard of the Celestine. Cocktail-wise, I was going for the NOLA classics, such as the Sazerac, Vieux Carré, and the Corpse Reviver #2. If you're keeping score, I must admit that I enjoy the Vieux Carré at the Carousel Bar, but the one at Peychaud's is even better. I also enjoyed the Absinthe Suissesse, which was a blissful elixir that was sweet, succinct, creamy, and gave a lovely buzz. The bartenders are wicked cool and make excellent cocktails that were fantastic to see made as well as drink. It was a lot of fun to watch more than one bartender make the Ramos Gin Fizzes to the point we ordered a couple for ourselves. In addition to the excellent cocktail-making, the bartenders were charming and affable, making us linger longer or always return to the bar from wherever we were in the Quarter. read more

Whenever I have friends coming to town that are looking for the quintessential elegant (but not stuffy) uniquely French Quarter cocktail experience, Peychaud's is with their classic cocktail offerings and lovely wine list. The interior offers up atmosphere in droves-- you feel like you're stepping back in time to gather 'round the absinthe fountain. It's an intimate space but there's more seating in the beautiful courtyard. It's literally perfect, even when the outside temps beg you to stay indoors, thanking the gods for a/c. It's timeless and charming-- don't expect hot & trendy, but that type of thing is out of place in the French Quarter anyway and that is AOK with me. read more

Popped in at Peychaud's to take a walking break from around the French Quarter and I really loved that you have a cool, charming spot like this just 1 block off Bourbon - close enough to not be out of your way, but far enough away from the many places on Bourbon that we like to avoid now that we are a bit older. They have a beautiful bar, cozy setting, and some charming staff. As became the usual during our New Orleans trip, I started with a Sazerac and then a hurricane and The Wife opted for a French 75. All were great drinks at decent prices, served away from the hustle and bustle of the madness just a block away. Really happy we discovered Peychaud's as it is a great palate cleanser from the overly touristy places you see on Bourbon and we plan to make it a usual stop when back this way. Hopefully can enjoy their courtyard when the weather is a bit better next time around. read more

During my last visit to New Orleans, I stopped in here a few times for drinks. It's located inside the Celestine, which is a small boutique hotel. The quaint little bar has lots of charm. The courtyard is serene & cozy - proving the perfect refuge from Bourbon St. While sitting in the courtyard I happen to notice a wrought iron gate that said The Court of the Two Sisters. I peeked through and sure enough the restaurant was on the other side. I'm curious to know if at one time this building also belonged to the sisters. If you plan your visit right, you might hear the jazz band playing during brunch. They don't serve food but the menus have a QR code so you can order from The Will & The Way, which is next door. The cocktail menu features NOLA Classics & house specialties, but the skilled mixologists behind the bar can whip up anything your heart desires. If you want to splurge order from the Reserve Menu, where top shelf libations range from $42 to $75. read more

I'm torn. Cute place with a beautiful courtyard. But our gin fizz took 30 minutes on a slow night after saying it would take 15. And they charge an extra service fee. That makes no sense! You would never believe, lounging in the courtyard next to the fountain, that this place is half a block off Bourbon Street. This beautiful little cocktail bar with its peaceful courtyard, is an oasis of calm in a busy city. That the oasis comes with absolutely delectable cocktails only makes it that much more delightful. We were there for several hours, quietly nursing a succession of drinks and talking, and honestly only left because we were tired. Anything on the menu will be delightful, we particularly recommend the punch and the Irish coffee, but if you're just not feeling anything, ask the bartender for something special to suit the mood. I also had a Bijou (Oh yes, they still have Chartreuse) and a Corpse reviver, which were truly delightful and which went really well with the food from the Will and the Way next door (they'll deliver appetizers if you order off a specific spot of their menu).
