Pretty good. The menu changes often, so a lot of the things I came to the restaurant for were no longer available. Regardless it was a very pretty and I enjoyed all the food. We made a reservation for 4 for dinner on a Monday evening. Our server was new but that didn't stop us from have a superb dining experience. Everything we ordered was mouth-watering (2 orders of the crawfish chowder, 2 orders of the cioppito, 1 order of rice dressing, and 1 order of blackened shrimp). Omg I can't say enough good things about this place! The ambiance was just right and although the food was the most we had spent the entire trip, it was worth it in my book. I am a fan of this place. We went here with four people and shared a bunch of the appetizers, because we wanted to experience all the various offerings. The cuisine is upscale local flavors with alligator bites and shrimps and grits, etc. All was really excellence and the service was spot on with a very attentive waiter. They smoke their own meats and you can actually smell and see the smoker when you go to the bathroom. The restaurant was very well attended and appointed when we came at around 6pm on a Saturday night. I would call ahead for reservations. read more

Service and Atmosphere was Excellent - Food was average The drinks and appetizers were fine, the food and dessert were not as expected, they were out of many ingredients, so one of the dishes in our party of 5 was somewhat lacking. Our server was very attentive and took care of the discrepancy. Better than the food, was the service we had at Kingfish, it was absolutely incredible. Kingfish is a new gem in The Quarter! Awesome menu and unique presentations. Pricing was very reasonable and the service was excellent! Recommend BBQ shrimp and waffle on the small bites section as well as the andouille sausage served with collard greens. For an entree' try the pompano for a really cool presentation. My fiancée and I visited New Orleans last week for the first time. We went to Kingfish twice, which is why this review has two parts... Daytime My fiancée and I chose a spot at the bar. The bartender, Justin, was very sweet and chatted us up while we enjoyed our fantastic drinks. He then recommended that we come back later and meet the mixologist Chris. Justin touted him as being the master of all bartenders. Both my fiancée and I have been in the service industry for 15 years each. We met while bartending and recently opened up our own bar, so we were excited about meeting Chris. Nighttime We came back in again that same day around 11:00pm. It wasn't busy. We sat at the bar and heard someone address the bartender as Chris. Awesome! It's him! We told Chris that we had been there earlier that day and that Justin recommended that we come back. So far everything was pleasant. Then, I have no idea what happened next. Chris asked us what we wanted to drink. My fiancé said that we were still deciding but asked if we could have a couple of waters. At the time, I told myself that I just imagined it, but I'm pretty sure Chris sighed and rolled his eyes to this request. I ordered the same delicious drink I had had earlier in the day. My fiancé was craving Absinthe and asked for the only Absinthe cocktail on the menu. "I can't make you that," Chris said flatly. "Oh, why not?" my fiancé asked in curiosity. Turns out they were out of one of the ingredients (not the Absinthe) "Okay, then," my fiancé said. "I'm in your hands. I'm just really into Absinthe right now. Make me whatever herbal, Absinthe cocktail you like, please." Chris returned shortly with a drink. My fiancé asked what it was. "Vodka, cucumber..." I forget the rest of the ingredients but Absinthe was not one of them. I'm not saying that the drink was bad. It's just not what we asked for at all. We started scratching our heads as to why he gave us a Vodka drink when we clearly asked for Absinthe. Absinthe has a very distinct taste which is nothing like Vodka. On top of that, Chris was being so short with us. We must have said "please" and "thank you" ten times each, but he didn't give is the time of day. Does this guy hate us? Or just think we're idiots? Chris didn't check back to see if we liked the drink. After a few minutes of feeling like we weren't wanted there, we asked to close out our tab. Chris threw our check at us without looking at us or saying "thank you". Wow. Seriously. What did we do? My fiancé thought that maybe he just experienced racism (he's Asian), but I'm white and I still felt like Chris wanted me dead. I didn't tip Chris, which I've ever only done once before in my life. I was in 7th grade. My waitress was Marge. I was a dumb kid, but I still feel bad about it to this day. As I said, I'm a bartender myself and have been for eight years. I think there's a special place in Hell for people who don't tip. But I couldn't justify giving my money to someone who was so rude to us. Our second trip to Kingfish was the only bad part of our otherwise fantastic trip. read more

Excellent meal (Alligator wings, Cajun Farmhouse Sausage Wontons, Stuffed jalapenos, Scallops & Shrimp (a special), Chargrilled Rabbit, pot du creme, pecan pie), and fine, gracious & attentive service. A few quibbles (they had run out of a few dishes by 7:30pm (hey, I guess these things happen); the room tends to get very loud; the bleu cheese shoestring potatoes with the rabbit seemed a strange pairing (but the ONLY culinary misfire of the meal)) but nothing that would keep me from going back. We explained our situation to the waiter who told us which dishes told us exactly how long each dish would take to come out. He was right on the time and the food was great. Our party of 5 was seated quickly but we waited an hour for our food to be served. We did not get any updates on our food so we just sat there for an hour. After we got our food, one dish was missing and we had to wait an extra 10 minutes for the dish. The dish we were missing was a burger and it came undercooked. The place is cool l, but when you walk in you can immediately tell that it is geared towards tourists. The food was ok- but nothing special. The menu is trying way too hard to be something that it doesn't deliver on. We ordered several items including the BBQ shrimp waffle and the cracklins. The shrimp tasted good but it was not traditional New Orleans style BBQ shrimp. The cracklins were not very good- way over seasoned. The drink menu is impressive and some of the cocktails were pretty good. All in all I think this place needs to stop trying so hard and figure out what it's trying to accomplish. There needs to be less flair and more substance..ok drinks, so so atmosphere..friendly but not-so-knowledgable staff and bland food. read more

Being a "Foodie", I was looking forward to trying this new restaurant in the French Quarter. The service was wonderful, but the food did not deliver the hype that it had received. The assorted "Cracklings" were unidentifiable and bland. The "Beet Salad" only had a whisper of a grated beet. Two guests had the "Fish on Salt Brick". Great concept, but poor execution. Both had their entrées end up in their laps and had to return to the hotel to change clothes. My "Bone-in Ribeye" was undercooked and flavorless. The "Roasted Chicken", again flavorless. The French Quarter is in great need of "fine dining" restaurants, as most have become unimaginative and overpriced for mediocre food. Hopefully, "Kingfish" will step up their game. read more

This is my first review on Yelp and I have eaten all over the Bay Area and New Orleans. I just had dinner at Kingfish and it is a major disappointment. Such an alluring interior and lively bar scene was completely sabotaged by a confused front of house, an indifferent bar and a very mediocre kitchen. Collard greens cooked like stalks of bark, plank fish dried to a husk, shrimp in a cold metal skillet, and so on. It certainly does not sit well to waste your money in such an amazing food paradise like New Orleans. Rats! read more

A very good blend of bar and restaurant. The drinks are all crafted and not just "poured". Plus some very creative specialty drinks to choose from. The food is very good. A wide variety of choices and unique options. The food was well prepared and if I had a 'complaint' it would simply be that they are too efficient and the food was all served extremely fast! After brunch in the Garden District and some window shopping along Magazine Street, we opted for dessert ... and made our way to the Quarter to actually eat at another dessert specialty bistro down the street from Kingfish. But the service was not to our liking, and we left ... and Fate took us to Kingfish! Extraordinary! There were 3 of us and 4 desserts on the menu. We decided to just order one of each and dive in. Best decision we made all day. We will definitely be back for lunch or dinner ... and we LIVE HERE ... so we know we have our choices of exquisite eateries any time we like. Delish! We just had a delicious brunch at Kingfish! We had originally planned to go to a restaurant around the corner but there was a 45 minute wait. As we got to the end of the street we saw Kingfish's A-frame sign and their advertisement for $12 bottomless mimosas. Our group of 12 was able to get in without a wait, just by shear luck! They sat us as a table of 4 and of 8. Kelcey was our server and he was very attentive and polite. I really enjoyed my Bloody Mary and the Steak and Eggs. The soup of the day was a spicy broccoli and cheese soup which I thoroughly enjoyed! I would highly recommend this establishment. read more

Just popped in for some alcoholic beverages before our next adventure. The bar was pretty busy, but we were able to snag some seats. Loved the outfits that bartenders were wearing and the decor. Felt like I traveled back in time. Our drinks were delicious and the service was attentive. There is one single stall for a bathroom near the bar and then if you go through the restaurant to this little area, there will be more bathrooms. I literally had every appetizer on the happy hour menu with my good bud from Alabama and they all sucked. Well, to be honest the BBQ sliders were not bad, but the other apps were below par at best. Seems like something I would make at home if I were under the influence. Not terrible, but really just lacking all around in general. The desert is pretty good. Strawberry crumble to be exact. The drinks are also fairly good; very stiff. To close, I would come here for drinks and the strawberry crumble (cannot comment on anything else) and absolutely skip the food. Pimm's is not for you if you do not like harsh liquor nor cucumber. It was interesting, but if you like fruity this is not for you. I also had bbq alligator wings and it was melt in your mouth bomb. I had the drum and it was heaven. And I hate fish thank you very much but it was so worth it since I wanted to try a local fish. It was so good and the service was a bonus.
