Here's my thing. Kings Co Imperial is good. I just can't justify the price tag. I think if anything is worth it, it's those delicious long dumplings. But everything else I've had is just fine and sordidly expensive. I don't mind the idea of authentic Chinese food with elevated ingredients, and I get that that comes at a higher price. I'm honestly unconvinced by the flavors in the food. Braised eggplant is possibly my favorite Chinese dish, and It's a texture I know well. I don't think it's nailed here, mostly because it's a little dry. The noodles are a great texture, but sometimes they can be a little too sweet. It all feels so close to the dishes I know and love, but not quite there. And for the price tag, I'd rather get food made by Chinese folks (with a little MSG, please god!) from Flushing. read more

Came here on a whim with my partner and had a really great time! I liked the style of food served and the service was great. The only thing that wasn't great was the close proximity to everyone else in the restaurant and to the door. The place is pretty small and they use every part of the space. We went in the winter, so being placed by the door sucked; I thought the seating wasn't worth it to be cold most of the time. It's intimate, but not because you are on top over everyone else. And the place was LOUD. It was actually very distracting hearing other parties' conversations pretty clearly. I went to Kings Co Imperial for Chef Andre Fowles pop-up. I went with a large party so we were able to sample most of the menu. Everything was amazing from top to bottom. I especially loved the coconut rice, oxtails, coconut shrimp toast and curried lobster fried rice. His very own hot sauce was also amazing and well balance, adding an extra zing to my protein dishes. I love love loved everything and most of my party were Nigerians that were mind-blown by all the delectable dishes. Chef Andre came in full-force and represented for the culture. It was Mother's Day and I was 3,000 miles from home. A dear friend invited me to spend the afternoon with them. I accepted and we started our afternoon at The Cloisters Museum. That was wonderful. We then came to Kings Co Imperial for dinner in Brooklyn. WOW! My friend's son had done some work for the owners and they were very warm and welcoming when we arrived. The room was crowded and noisy and also contained a bar. We were offered complimentary Pro Seco and were taken to another room for dinner. This area was better lit and quieter and also led to an outdoor garden/dining area which was not open because of the weather. This venue appeared to be a very popular neighborhood spot in an area of several eateries. After eating, I understand why! The staff was attentive and wonderful. We selected a variety of items for sharing and I was not disappointed. We started with very luscious soup dumplings. They were plump and filled with a flavorful soup and a nicely spiced meatball all wrapped in a delicious, slightly chewy dough. Next we had "Mock Eel". This was a mushroom cut to look like a young eel. The flavor and chewiness were very satisfying. I understand that this is a very popular dish and after having it, I know why. We were served a complimentary eggplant stir fry. It was full of flavor - garlicky and so delicious that I ate the last bit after everyone else had moved on. The next delicious plate served was stir fried pea shoots. So tender, flavorful and delicious. There was a noodle dish with mushrooms and other vegetables that was a bit spicy and delicious, as well. There were a couple of other dishes which I did not try - pan fried dumplings, a pork dish with noodles and vegetables. I was waiting for the Bronzino!!!! The fish was served whole and had been steamed in a sauce of black beans, scallions, soy, and other flavors. Our server, offered to de-bone the fish table side and proceeded to do so. I'm not a great fan of of steamed fish, but this was moist, flavorful, and delicious. Since this was the last dish served, everyone was pretty full and so about a quarter of the fish was left. Since no one else wanted it, I brought it home with me. I throughly enjoyed it for breakfast with toast the next day. It was soooo good. The management closed out our meal with complimentary Mai Tai's. This was a very satisfying meal. The staff was warm and helpful and I don't think this was because they knew my friend because I observed interactions with other guests. I encourage you to stop by if you're in the neighborhood. Trying to fulfill my Dan Dan Noodle cravings, I was excited to try out this place on door dash. The noodles came in the red to go container and I immediately noticed the lack of minced pork. I was grateful they put the sauce on the side so you can control how much you put on it, and also so the oil won't get all over the place. The flavors were there but the noodles were over cooked, and the lack of meat. I had also ordered the Kung Po Chicken, also to be disappointed by the lack of meat. Lots of green onions, onions, and snap peas (definitely a lot of the peppers) but only small amount of chicken. I definitely wish I got more meat in the dishes, but other than that the flavor profile of both dishes were tasty! read more

Not sure what all the hype is about but this place was not good. Maybe we just went here on a bad day or maybe it's just me and my wife. We tried a few of the dumpling dishes, Szechuan Cucumber, and the Crispy Garlic chicken. Each dish was either way too salty or way too spicy. We eat spicy food all the time and there is a difference between spicy that adds to the flavor and spicy that doesn't allow you to taste or even eat the food. I can't do spicy food. Unless it's Szechuan. And then I'll eat until my mouth is numb and my pants don't fit. So obvi, Kings Co was hot on my radar. After my husband endured the Spicy Ramen Challenge at Brooklyn Brewery, I made the sadistic choice of more spice (he still likes me, it's fine). It was so hard to not order the whole menu. And even still, we over ordered. Here's the highlights: They had soup dumplings on special and they were such a delight. Good skin, great almost creamy broth. The shrimp toast was much more upscale than the greasy take out joint toasts I'm used to, but came with that classic spicy mustard and I wished we'd ordered double. Surprisingly, I passed on noodles and instead chose the ocean wealth fried rice. I love a fluffy fried rice with lots of scrambled egg and this was basically exactly what I think of when I think fried rice. The name implies a bounty of seafood, but it's really just shrimp, which is fine because shrimp are great. Protip: They have a FOOD happy hour! You get little sets of dim sum, noodles, vegetable based on the number of people in your party, so grab all your hungriest friends. read more

I love that this place is so close to home. My friend and I came here on a Wednesday evening around 6pm and it was mostly empty (though, it filled up towards the time we left). Fantastic service, reasonably priced, and delicious flavors. We ordered the eggplant, green beans, and duck wrap. Everything was top notch. The eggplant is warm and perfectly cooked and not too spicy, the string beans could be a little crisper, but nothing to complain about. Most of all, I loved the duck wrap with plum sauce and pancake. The pancake is the right thickness (hard to achieve) and the flavors perfectly complement each other. Though, the taste of duck was very mild - which is okay since prefer vegetables anyways. My expectations weren't too high considering the neighborhood isn't known for Chinese food. Was pleasantly surprised and I think it s a really great find in the neighborhood. The food was good but not delicious. I think it's because of my taste buds. I would recommend the spot to anyone because I think it's worth a try. The ambience is kind of dark but still children friendly. There's also a bar. The service is great, the food comes out as it's ready and different servers are bringing it to your table- all nice and professional and asking if there's anything you need. There's also a nice cocktail menu. I think the flavors just threw me off because I wasn't used to it. I'm not a big China's food lover but if you are go ahead and try this spot. Price is reason. Wooo, wooo, freakin WOOO! Stumbled upon this gem on a snowy night and what a treat it was! Some souped up chinese food but for a reasonable price, this williamsburg local joint is a real oral papillary winner. Truth be told, I love spinning tables aka lazy susans (but they work so hard so that we don't have to) aka hard-working spin class susans, and to my complete joy, I spotted some on the larger tables. Freeing all booth sliders up for shoveling dry fried green beans while spinning the dishes to land on their next bite, mobile table centers truly make the meal go round. Despite the fact that it was, as I fore mentioned, snowing outside, it was packeddd an hour after it opened on a sunday evening, so making a reservation might benefit ya. Nightly cocktail and dinner specials abound, not to mention the main stays of dan dans, dry frieds, daily twisted soup dumps, and pork belly plates, I do not predict being bored with the ever evolving selection of King's. I think by now I've learned to optimize my order. This is classic Chinese-American fare that's been updated with artisanal ingredients. If that sounds good, you'll probably love KCI. But for me it was too basic. We ordered five dishes and only one -- the long ribbons of fried shiitake mushrooms, aka "mock eel" -- really impressed. Here's why we weren't big on the rest: --Weeping tiger salad: This wasn't what the menu described. There was virtually none of the advertised Napa cabbage, but there were tons of bean sprouts, which weren't even listed. In any event, it was basically a $10 pile of cilantro. --Kung pao chicken: The waiter described this as some fearsomely hellish five-alarm fire, but I've had ketchup that was spicier. --Hanging ribs: Meat was of respectable quality, sauce/marinade was thoroughly ordinary. --Broiled chicken dumplings: The cinnamon oil was nice, but the skins and meat were a bit dense. The portion sizes were very large. We had the Dim Sum Dinner. The long beans were blistered to a perfect consistency with plenty of seasoning. The oysters were cut small and deep fried so each piece had a lot of flavor. The breading was airy with plenty of salt. The Ribs were tender and sweet. Came here on Christmas day with a group of friends, we luckily had a reservation because this place was quite packed. We were seated in the back room which lacked the same interesting decor as the front, but provided us with a little more space. Our waitress was attentive throughout the meal and our food arrived quickly, which we didn't complain about since we were hungry! We tried a number of dishes including the dan dan mian, hong kong style noodle, dry fried long bean, kung po chicken, angry pig fried rice, and the soup dumplings. The highlights hear were the dan dan mian, dry fried long bean, and the soup dumplings. My friend who is from Hong Kong said that these were some of the BEST dry fried long beans she's every had. Second time visiting this place for dinner, second time rating it 5 stars. As before, the atmosphere is very chilled, with the wait staff being the perfect blend of friendly, but giving you your space. The fact it was packed out at 6pm (that's early for dinner) speaks for itself. Onto the food. Pork soup dumplings - the best I've had in NYC (vs joes, red farm, Vanessa's, mini chengs, drunken dumpling etc). The flavor really is great, and the texture, while slightly thicker than your regular soup dump, really completes it. Tea smoked mu shu duck - a great spin on the classic Peking duck. The duck comes served amongst a bunch of stir fried veg, and with some pancakes and hoisin sauce for a little build your own Chinese burrito. The tea smoked flavour really completes it and while this is not crispy Peking duck by any means, it's a brilliant alternative SPECIAL: salt and pepper squid - not much to say about this, other than it was perfect. It's exactly what you want from salt and pepper squid. Perfectly seasoned, light crispy batter and very generous garnishes of peppers, chilies and green onion. Dan Dan Noodles: big fan of the Dan Dan, however beware, it is quite an acquired taste. The Szechuan pepper that's key within the dish has a somewhat soapy, annacede-y taste that makes your tongue tingle and go a bit numb. Very spicy - but definitely a must try. Portions on each of these are huge, and the above 4 dishes could easily have fed a party of 4 normal eaters, 3 hungry people...or 2 absolute fatso's such as me and my GF. American-Chinese food lovers rejoice, this unassuming Wburg restaurant serves up great food and cocktails. The food here is strictly the Americanized version of multi-regional cuisine of China (Sichuan, Canton, Beijing). A bit more greasy, salty, and saucy for my taste. I could see why 99% of the patrons are non-Asian (in a good way). The atmosphere is welcoming, dim lighting sets the mood. The menu is in English and it serves a variety of familiar food such as fried egg rolls to something more "adventurous" such as steamed whole fish. The staff is all non-Asian with an exception to 1, so it's not intimidating compared to Chinatown. The music and variety of cocktails is awesome, more Chinese restaurants in Chinatown should serve cocktails! The execution of dishes were good, nothing was overcooked besides the side of white rice which was hard and difficult to chew. The best as the Tea Smoke Moo Shoo, it was a large portion of veggies and duck that we wrap inside a "bing", sorta like a Chinese tortilla. The black tea ice cream was fragrant and creamy too. A great hidden gem for the neighborhood! The clientele is a mix of hipsters, pretentious locals, some old and young. Staff is fantastic - friendly, helpful, approachable. Vibe is pretty loud. On a Friday night around 7pm we were able to get 2 seats at the bar, otherwise it was a 30 min wait. We ordered the salt & pepper oyster mushroom, cold watercress salad, and steamed fish. The was more than enough food for two as the portions are quite generous. Everything was fresh and very tasty. It was such a pleasant surprise to have such traditional flavors pop off the plates in some new ways! I'm so very glad we ventured to try this spot and that's its part of the neighborhood! The wait was fairly long, we came in on a Thursday night around 8:30 and the wait for a table for 2 was 45 minutes. Nothing crazy, and there are a couple good bars very close by, but next time I'll def get a reservation instead of winging it. As for the food- WOW. That's all I can say...except that I'm about to say a bunch more. There were 2 specials of the night that we tried, the pork soup dumplings and chicken and shrimp dish. The soup dumplings were bomb AF, definitely a must-order. The chicken/shrimp was also delish. Off the standard menu we ordered the Chop Your Head Off soup and Poached Watercress. Both were amazing. Kings County Imperial has easily become my Go-to neighborhood Chinese food spot. I have eaten there a handful of times and have never been disappointed. I love it. My reccos are: long dumplings, soup dumpling (only served after 5:30pm and 2 orders per table.. I think), the mock eel (mushrooms), copper well noodles, cold sesame noodle, shrimp toast-- You can't go wrong with any of those. To drink, the Shanghai Mule is great. Kings Co has excellent Chinese food, I was super impressed! This low lit restaurant is serving up flavorful food paired with delicious craft cocktails, it's the perfect date night or just any night really. The atmosphere is very chic and romantic but can get loud since it tends to get packed. It was a Tuesday night at around 7 PM when I was there and for 2 people it was a 30-minute wait for a table, but the bar was opened. So the bf and I sat at the bar and ordered some cocktails and ton of food, we started with Wok Seared Long Dumpling (soup dumpling), Salt Steamed Veal Riblets, Angry Pig Fried Rice (w/ Chinese hanging pork, smoked tofu, snap pea, egg, ginger), Harvest Pork (Spring onions, trumpet mushrooms, chili paste), and Imperial Famous Spring Rolls (1 order). Think we got enough? We sat and picked at everything you can def get a few orders like we did and pick, but the wok dish and the fried rice were bigger and they did come home with us, but everything else is of the dim sum proportion. I must say everything was delicious, I love Chinese food, I can eat it anytime, so this was such a treat. The veal riblets were excellent I've never had these in my life and they were tiny (very) salted pieces of meat that flew off the plate, the fried rice- stellar, not overly fried, and very tasty, a good portion for two; the harvest pork, was my favorite, it was packed with flavor, and the pork was so fresh and tasty, it was sliced thinly so you weren't gnawing on huge bits of pork, I wish this came out first so I could have had more of it I was so full! The spring rolls were not greasy or heavy, I def recommend these if you're looking for something for three people it came with 6. The dumplings were very good, not your classic soup dumpling, but very good nonetheless. Great food, good service, delicious cocktails, a little pricey, but worth it. The food is always phenomenal--which is why I'm giving the overall review 4 stars. I was excited to choose this for my birthday dinner, but left disappointed. I was excited to try the special cocktail being offered, but it was served in a ~4oz glass, and I didn't feel like the value (both in quantity and quality) justified the price ($15). In addition, we arrived for the reservation early, and when we checked-in right at the reservation time, we're told that the table wasn't ready yet, and had to wait an additional 15 minutes before it was. The service from the server was the worst we've received in a very long time. The server took a very long time to take our orders, and then never came back to ask how our food was or if we needed anything. We had to flag her down to ask for the check, which still took a long time for her to deliver and then take our card.
